Islands, castles, stud farm, vintage cars: How rich is Vijay Mallya?

Mallya’s personal wealth, like most high net worth individuals is a subject for speculation – for most part at least. what is known for sure is that his holdings in the united breweries (ub) group, of which he is still the chairman, is now valued in the region of rs 1750 crore..

In his life as a businessman that has spanned nearly four decades, two things were never in short supply for Vijay Mallya – money and drama, mostly in equal measure. But lately, the 60-year old former Forbes billionaire seems to have attracted more of the latter.

As pressure mounts on the Modi-government to clean up banks’ balance sheets carrying bad assets, estimated to be around Rs 3.5 lakh crore, large banks like SBI are left with little choice but to train their guns on big borrowers like Mallya.(AFP)

Earlier this week, the State Bank of India (SBI), principal lender to the now defunct Kingfisher Airlines, approached the Debt Recovery Tribunal for the arrest of Mallya and seizure of his passport. Along with SBI, 17 state-owned banks are owed a sum in excess of Rs 7000 crore by the grounded airlines.

As pressure is mounting on the Modi-government to clean up banks’ balance sheets carrying bad assets, estimated to be around Rs 3.5 lakh crore, large banks like SBI are left with little choice but to train their guns on big borrowers like Mallya.

So how much is the man really worth?

This is truly a billion dollar question and answers are not easy to come by.

Mallya’s personal wealth, like most high net worth individuals is a subject for speculation – for most part at least. What is known for sure is that his holdings in the United Breweries (UB) Group, of which he is still the chairman, is now valued in the region of Rs 1750 crore, which is mostly his 8 per cent holding in beer maker United Breweries Ltd.

Shares in listed companies in India are only a part of the man’s earthly possessions. During his heydays, he collected properties across the world including private islands, prime real estate in Europe and US aside from in India, over 250 luxury and vintage cars, and articles of historical significance like the Sword of Tipu Sultan (£175,000 in 2004) and Mahatma Gandhi’s spectacles ($1.8 million in 2009).

The most reliable data on Mallya’s wealth is the annual list of the super rich collected by Forbes magazine. This data though is available only up to 2012; Mallya was dropped off the list that year onwards as his personal wealth fell below the mandatory billion dollar threshold. From his peak in 2007, when Forbes estimated Mallya’s personal worth at $1.6 billion, it dropped to less than $800 million in 2012. This was also the year when Kingfisher Airlines was grounded due to mounting financial pressure.

yacht vijay mallya worth

At the time, Mallya was reported to have said, “Thanks to the Almighty that Forbes has removed me from the so-called billionaires list... less jealousy, less frenzy and wrongful attacks.” But while his wealth may have eroded significantly, his defiance remains intact. In a recent interview with PTI , he said: “I have no regrets as such. Perhaps the only regret is that Kingfisher Airlines is not flying today when the oil price is so low.”

Mallya’s strongest assets remain to be his real estate holdings across the world. He has bought and continues to own properties in Europe, US and across India, including castles, private islands and luxury properties (see table).

His most recent deal, the UK liquor company Diageo’s buyout of the crown jewel of UB Group – United Spirits, will make Mallya Rs 515 crore richer ($75 million) over the next five years. The deal is now being challenged by banks and other investors, who believe they have the right of first claim on this for the money owed to them by Mallya.

In keeping with his love for sports, one of Mallya’s most valuable possession in India is the 400 acre Kunigal Stud Farm in Karnataka. However, its value (with the horses) could not be ascertained.

Though not in his personal capacity, Mallya also counted Indian Premier League cricket team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and a substantial stake in Sahara Force One F1 team among his prized processions. But since the Diageo deal with United Spirits, he has lost control over both these teams. RCB is controlled by USL (in which Diageo holds controlling interest) and the control over Watson Ltd, the UK-based company that owns the F1 team has also shifted to Diageo. The loss of control over Watson was a result of a $135 million loan deal with Standard Chartered Bank for which Diageo stood as a guarantor, which was subsequently defaulted in May 2015 after the loan matured.

Vijay Mallya’s luxury yacht impounded in Malta

A London-based maritime trade union impounded businessman Vijay Mallya’s luxury yacht worth $95 million (Rs 617 crore) in Malta on Tuesday for not paying more than $1 million (Rs 6.49 crore) in wages to the crew, the Hindustan Times reported.

Mallya had abandoned the yacht, named the ‘Indian Empress’, in September 2017, said Nautilus International, adding that it was attempting to recover an additional $3,30,000 (Rs 2.14 crore) in unpaid wages on behalf of its members.

“Our members on board gave their employer and the ship owner multiple opportunities to pay monthly wages, displaying a loyalty and restraint greater than many would show in such situations,” The Guardian quoted Danny McGowan, Nautilus International’s strategic organiser, as saying. “These opportunities were regularly ignored by the owner, leaving us with no option but to take the case to the courts.”

Nautilus’s Legal Director Charles Boyle said crew members working on such luxury yachts often experience “exploitation and abuse”, and that is why the union had become involved in this case.

Mallya, who is facing extradition proceedings at the moment for allegedly cheating Indian banks of Rs 9,000 crore, was arrested in London in 2017 but is on bail until April 2. The case will be next heard in the Westminster Magistrates Court in London on March 16.

A consortium of Indian banks, led by State Bank of India, are likely to be among those claimants as they pursue a separate bankruptcy order against Mallya over unpaid loans related to his now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines. Mallya, meanwhile, remains on bail on a warrant executed by Scotland Yard in April 2017 pending a High Court appeal next month against him.

Vijay Mallya: From F1 boss and India's 'King of Good Times' to fugitive in the UK

Vijay Mallya: From F1 boss and India's 'King of Good Times' to fugitive in the UK

yacht vijay mallya worth

Vijay Mallya was once a celebrated figure in F1, but his legacy has become shrouded in controversy.

Born on December 18, 1955, in Kolkata, India, Mallya is a former businessman and politician and the ex-owner of India's only F1 team, Force India.

Mallya was once known as the "King of Good Times" for his flamboyant lifestyle, which included yachts, private jets, vintage cars, stud farms, and a luxurious $20 million mansion on top of a skyscraper in Bengaluru , which is a two-storey replica of the White House.

He was also known for hosting celebrity parties on his 311-foot superyacht, the Indian Empress, during the Monaco Grand Prix.

But his reputation has been marred by ongoing legal battles with Indian authorities, and he is currently a fugitive in the United Kingdom.

So, how did one of India's prominent businessmen become one of the most-wanted fugitives in the country? Let's find out.

Vijay Mallya's business career

Mallya was the heir to his father Vittal Mallya's vast business empire.

At the age of 28, after the death of his father, Vijay took over the reins of United Breweries Group, an Indian conglomerate with diversified interests in beverage alcohol, aviation infrastructure, real estate and fertilisers.

Over the years, Mallya held several high-profile positions in many companies. He served as the chairman of United Spirits, the largest spirits company in India, as well as Sanofi India (formerly known as Hoechst AG and Aventis) and Bayer CropScience.

Mallya was also the chairman of Kingfisher Airlines, a premium airline launched on his son Siddharth's 18th birthday. The company quickly gained popularity and became the second largest domestic carrier in the country.

The Indian billionaire also dipped his toes in chemicals, paints, and publishing, acquiring The Asian Age newspaper and Bollywood film magazine Cine Blitz.

While navigating the world of business, Mallya also ventured into politics, serving two terms in India's upper house, the Rajya Sabha, before resigning in 2016 amidst allegations of wrongdoing.

Mallya was also involved in sports in a big way. He was the chairman of the Premier League cricket team Royal Challengers Bangalore as well as the Force India F1 team.

Vijay Mallya in F1 with Force India

yacht vijay mallya worth

Ahead of the 2008 F1 season, Vijay Mallya and Dutch businessman Michiel Mol made headlines after buying the struggling Spyker F1 team for €88 million. The team was renamed Force India and became the first-ever Indian outfit to participate in the prestigious F1 world championship.

Giancarlo Fisichella and Adrian Sutil were the first drivers to race for the Indian team, but they failed to score a point in the team's debut season in F1.

For 29 races, Force India struggled to make a mark on the grid until Fisichella clinched second place at the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix having taken the team's sensational first pole position on the same weekend.

The team gradually began to climb the constructors' rankings in the following seasons, finishing seventh or higher. However, it was in 2016 that the team achieved its best result when Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg brought Sahara Force India up to fourth place with a total of 173 points, finishing ahead of renowned teams like Williams and McLaren .

In 2017, the team repeated the feat, finishing fourth once again - this time with 187 points.

However, the Indian outfit's fortunes took a sharp turn in 2018 when Mallya faced a legal case, leading the team to be put into administration in London’s High Court.

The team's assets were then bought by Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, who rebranded the team as Racing Point Force India.

The team went through another name change, becoming Racing Point, before becoming Aston Martin in 2021.

Over the years, Force India has boasted some of the sport's biggest names, including Perez, Esteban Ocon , Paul di Resta, and Hulkenberg.

The team scored a total of 1,039 points, secured one pole position, five fastest laps, and six podiums from 2008 to 2018.

Vijay Mallya legal case

Kingfisher Airlines, which was one of Force India's major sponsors, turned into Mallya's Achilles' heel.

In 2012, the airline was grounded due to a crippling debt burden which ultimately made it impossible to continue operations. The financial situation was so dire that even employees went unpaid for over a year.

The company struggled to repay the loans that Mallya sought from banks, although, according to reports, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has stated that Mallya had enough money between 2008 and 2017 to repay the loans.

It is also believed that during the same period when his airline was going through a financial crisis, Mallya bought properties in England and France and transferred money to his children's trusts in Switzerland.

In 2016, the situation escalated as public-sector banks declared Mallya a "wilful defaulter."

In March 2016, the Enforcement Directorate of India filed a money laundering case against Mallya for sending millions of dollars abroad. Around the same time, the banks approached the Supreme Court to prevent his departure from the country.

However, he had already left India for the United Kingdom, leaving behind debts exceeding $1 billion.

Since then, he has remained in the UK while the Indian government attempts to extradite him to face charges of fraud and money laundering.

In January 2019, Mallya was declared a fugitive economic offender under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, while the Indian fugitive continued to deny all allegations, saying that he is a victim of 'witch-hunt'.

Vijay Mallya: The Complete History and Downfall of Kingfisher Founder

Anik Banerjee

Anik Banerjee

Vijay Vittal Mallya, popularly known as Vijay Mallya, is an Indian businessman and an ex-Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha). He was born in Kolkata, on 18 December 1955. He can be commonly recalled as the former owner of the IPL cricket team of Royal Challengers Bangalore and the former owner of Kingfisher Airlines.

Furthermore, he is also the ex-chairman of the biggest spirits manufacturing company in India, United Spirits. Mallya still retains his post as the chairman of United Breweries Group.

He is also the face of one of the biggest financial scandals in India and is a subject of extradition efforts by the Indian Government. Let's understand the complete story of Vijay Mallya.

Vijay Mallya - Biography Vijay Mallya - Latest News Vijay Mallya - Family Vijay Mallya - Education Vijay Mallya - History Vijay Mallya - When and How Did the Bubble Burst? How Banks Gave the Loan to Kingfisher?

Vijay Mallya - Biography

Vijay mallya - latest news.

Indian banks led by the State Bank of India plan to sell Vijay Mallya’s share of United Breweries worth Rs 5,500 crores. The banks , which had initially granted loans of huge sums of money to the fugitive, have already filed to recover some of it in the Debt Recovery Tribunal. This has been finally ruled in the favor of the banks after being initially opposed.

Vijay Mallya - Family

Vijay Mallya was born to an affluent business family as a son of the former chairman of the United Breweries Group, Vittal Mallya and Lalitha Ramaiah. Soon after his father’s death, Mallya succeeded his father to become the chairman of the United Breweries Group at the early age of 28.

Vijay Mallya married Sameera Sharma, an air hostess of Air India, in 1986, and their first son, Siddharth Mallya was born on May 7, 1987. However, his first marriage didn’t last long, and soon after they were divorced, Mallya married Rekha Mallya, who is his present wife, in June 1993. He adopted Rekha’s daughter, Leila during the time of his marriage and also has two daughters from his present wife, Leanne, and Tanya.

Vijay Mallya - Education

Mallya spent his school and college days in Kolkata. He was a student of La Martinière Calcutta , where he was appointed House Captain of Hastings house in the final year, following which, he went on to be admitted to St. Xavier's College, Kolkata, where he graduated with an Honours in the Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1976.

He interned in his family’s businesses during his college days. Post-graduation, Mallya flew to the United States and joined as an intern at the American part of Hoechst AG.

Vijay Mallya - History

Though Vijay Mallya was born to humble parents, he never decided to settle for a quiet life like his father. He had soaring ambitions and a desire to exceed them. His journey started with United Breweries , which was already an MNC business conglomerate, comprising over 60 companies.

As soon as he joined the business, he worked hard to grow the business and managed to increase the overall turnover by around 64% , reaching US $ 11 billion in 1998-1999. He was already living a lifestyle of that of kings, being dubbed as the “King of Good Times” that eventually became the tagline of Kingfisher.

In the year 2005, Mallya launched his new airline company , Kingfisher Airlines to further diversify his business, which later on became the cause of his downfall .

Kingfisher Airlines

Vijay Mallya - When and How Did the Bubble Burst?

Within a relatively short span of time, Vijay Mallya got what he aimed for but continued to dream bigger. Kingfisher Airlines was launched at the peak of his career when he was already living a lifestyle that most people cannot even dream of but after a brief spell of success and with skying debts, it was finally shut down in 2012 .

Vijay Mallya’s success didn’t seem to last long not because of his ambitious dreams but due to his dishonest ways to achieve the same.

Kingfisher Airlines was a business built on a platform of losses , and as a result of which it has echoed losses ever since it was launched. Intending to overcome the financial burdens, which started to weigh heavy by then, Mallya decided to fly overseas. However, according to the rules, an airline company needs to run its local operations successfully before it can look forward to flying internationally.

Here, Mallya planned to rush things by acquiring another low-cost airline company, Air Deccan by paying over the odds but this viciously backfired Mallya, catalyzed by the rising loans and catapulted by the economic downturn of 2008 and 2009.

Revenue of Kingfisher Airlines

At the end of 2009, Kingfisher Airlines was already due for a massive sum of Rs 7,000 crores , a major part of which was siphoned by Mallya as loans from 17 Indian banks allegedly to shell companies in Britain, Switzerland, and Ireland. Furthermore, he also left staff underpaid and even unpaid when he couldn’t meet the due amount. Kingfisher Airlines finally crashed in 2012 with the aircraft seized.

How Banks Gave the Loan to Kingfisher?

Banks give loans based on the collateral of the same amount given in the loan. But these banks gave loans to Vijay Mallya on items like office stationery, boarding pass printers, folding chairs, computer screens, and wood tables as collateral. The bank’s willingness to provide loans based on current assets as capital created suspicions on the bank officials who passed their loans .

Also, the loans given by SBI were on the trademarks and Goodwill of Kingfisher airlines kept as collateral. SBI chairman OP Bhatt was involved in providing such fraud loans to him.

Banks lost their money because of the officials who granted and processed the loans, without checking all the collaterals and taking securities that were to be followed as per rules and regulations. They came under the pressure of their seniors who were bribed by Vijay Mallya. Also, he took the help of his political connections to process such big loans.

The loans taken on the name of Kingfisher Airlines and UB group weren’t used for its actual cause. Banks never knew that the loans taken by Vijay Mallya were laundered overseas to various tax havens. All this was done with the help of shell companies.

Mallya would have the bank loans moved to these shell firms, which were set up with sham directors for this reason. These companies did not have any source of income and weren’t active at all. The loans taken were only to further his agenda. The directors placed in the shell companies would act according to the command of Mallya. The money was transferred to seven different countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, Ireland, Switzerland, France, and South Africa .

Furthermore, Vijay Mallya diverted the money he got from the loans to fund his IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore. He bought the most expensive IPL team RCB at INR 476 Crore with the money of public sector banks. Around 77 payments were done by the SBI bank account of Kingfisher Airlines to the IPL Vendors. He had spent massive amounts lavishly over cricketers from the borrowed money of the banks.

At first, this case seemed similar to those in businessmen getting unlucky. But a closer look reveals this is was a case of smart money laundering . As our Indian banking sector is still developing, there are many loopholes in the system. People like Vijay Mallya took the advantage of such loopholes and made their unhealthy marks on the economic system.

Here is a list of how much loan was taken from each bank:

The government of India despite its repeated attempts for extradition, is yet to arrest him from the UK , where he has fled post the issuance of the warrants against him.

“The evil that men do lives after them; the good is often interred with their bones.”

The Fugitive Economic Offenders Act was rolled out by the Indian government in 2018 and by this act, Vijay Mallya was labelled as the first fugitive economic offender of the nation. He is now remembered by the same.

What is David Filo’s net worth?

Net Worth: $3.2 Billion Age: 58 Born: April 20, 1966 Gender: Male Height: 1.79 m (5 ft 10 in) Country of Origin: United States of America Source of Wealth: Entrepreneur Last Updated: May 9, 2024

Introduction  .

David Filo is an American billionaire.

Filo is the co-founder of Yahoo! with Jerry Yang.

His Filo Server Program was written in the C programming language.

It was the server-side software used to dynamically serve variable web pages, called Filo Server Pages, on visits to early versions of the Yahoo! website.

As of May 2024, David Filo’s net worth is estimated to be roughly $3.2 Billion.

David Robert Filo was born on the 2oth of April 1966 in Wisconsin.

When he was six, he moved to Moss Bluff, a Lake Charles, Louisiana suburb.

Filo graduated from Sam Houston High School, earning a B.S. degree in computer engineering at Tulane University through the Dean’s Honor Scholarship and an M.S. degree in 1990 at Stanford University.

After graduating from Tulane University with a degree in computer engineering, David Filo enrolled at Stanford.

He earned an M.S. degree there in 1990 and, four years later, co-created “Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web” with Jerry Yang.

At the time, this site hosted a human-edited directory of other popular sites on the 90s internet.

Soon after, the site was renamed Yahoo, a name it retains today as one of the biggest sites on the web.

Like Bill Gates and Microsoft, David Filo has since earned billions thanks to his hand in creating Yahoo.

The Yahoo Expansion

After being incorporated as a search engine in 1995, Yahoo quickly became the go-to site for looking things up.

In 1996, Yahoo became a public company, and its stock price jumped 600% in just two years.

The following year, Yahoo began offering free email after acquiring RocketMail, which was renamed Yahoo Mail.

By 1998, Yahoo was the most popular starting point for internet users and the most used search engine.

In 2000, Yahoo started using Google for its search function before developing its own after acquiring Inktomi.

To compete with Gmail, Yahoo began offering unlimited email storage in 2007, but Larry Page’s Google continue to grow in popularity.

A Slow Decline

In 2008, David Filo had to lay off hundreds of people as Yahoo tried to keep its head above water.

Microsoft offered $44.6 billion to buy Yahoo the same year, but the offer was rejected, claiming it undervalued the company.

This is after Yahoo missed the opportunity to buy Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook in 2006 after lowballing the deal.

By 2012, Yang had left as CEO and things were looking grim for the once-popular website.

In 2013, Yahoo acquired the social media blogging site Tumblr for $1.1 billion and then the video advertising provider BrightRoll.

A few years later, in 2016, Yahoo’s core business was acquired by Verizon Communications for $4.83 billion.

Unfortunately, it was too late to turn things around, and data breaches in 2017 only exacerbated Yahoo’s problems.

A Dying Giant

Following the 2017 data breaches, which caused the company no shortage of headaches, things never turned around.

The following year, Yahoo banned all adult content on Tumblr, leading to an extreme amount of backlash and a mass exodus from the site.

In 2021, Yahoo ended operations in mainland China, citing a challenging legal environment.

Two years later, Yahoo acquitted the social investing platform Commonstock and cut 20% of its workforce.

This was after massive layoffs from other tech companies, including Meta, Amazon, Google, and Twitter.

In 2024, Yahoo acquired Artifact, an AI-driven news aggregator that pulls news stories from various sources.

However, despite these recent acquisitions, Yahoo remains a shadow of its glory from the 1990s.

That said, the site has still made David Filo one of the wealthiest people in America , with a net worth of billions.

Most recently, Filo donated $10 million to the UC Berkeley School of Journalism, the most significant gift in the school’s history.

As of May 2024, David Filo’s net worth is estimated to be roughly $3.2 Billion.

Here are some of the best highlights of David Filo’s career:

  • Co-founder of Yahoo!
  • B.S. degree in computer engineering

If we lose that at some point, then I think we have potential issues, but so far, we’ve been able to do a really good job of maintaining that.” – David Filo

“Search as a paradigm will continue to be probably even increasingly important because the information that’s out there is only going to grow exponentially – and the only way to sort through all that is by some form of search.” – David Filo

“It had a lot to do with various Yahoo! employees who have been pretty passionate about this stuff. We’ve done a number of things over the years, but, of course, more recently, we’ve come to the realization that the biggest way for us to make an impact.”   – David Filo

“That’s a good question, and definitely what we’re trying to get at here. We’re trying to foster those communities within things like Yahoo! Answers. Part of this campaign comes from questions like, “Can we get people to talk about this stuff more? Can we get people to ask questions and answer questions and become more informed?”   – David Filo

Andrew Beal is a successful banker and investor, but just how much money have his investments made him?

What is Andrew Beal’s net worth?

Net Worth: $10 Billion Age: 71 Born: November 29, 1952 Gender: Male Height: Unknown Country of Origin: United States of America Source of Wealth: Entrepreneur Last Updated: May 9, 2024

Introduction .

Andrew Beal is an American banker, businessman, investor, and amateur mathematician.

Beal is a Dallas-based businessman who accumulated wealth in real estate and banking.

He is the founder and chairman of Beal Bank and Beal Bank USA, and other affiliated companies.

As of May 2024, Andrew Beal’s net worth is estimated to be $10 Billion.

Daniel Andrew “Andy” Beal was born on the 29th of November, 1952, in Lansing, Michigan.

His siblings include an older brother and a younger sister.

As a teenager, Beal began earning money by fixing and reselling used televisions with the help of his uncle. While attending high school, he also installed apartment security systems.

He also started a business moving house and managed rental properties.

Andrew Beal’s career began at 19 when he invested in his first real estate venture, buying a house for $6,500 in his hometown.

His first lease netted him $119 per month, and it started his lifelong interest in the property market and real estate deals.

It wasn’t long before he developed a reputation for acquiring properties and renting or selling them at a substantial profit.

His strategy paid off handsomely. In 1976, he attended a federal property auction in Washington, D.C., which yielded his first major deal.

The property was an apartment block in Waco, Texas, on which he bid $217,500. He won the auction and began the next chapter in his real estate life.

Sold His First Million Dollar Building

In only three years, he sold the building for over $1 million, in a deal that would repeat itself over and ever again throughout his career.

His business was doing so well that he left his studies at Baylor University in 1976 to concentrate on making money.

In 1981, Beal took on a partner, and the business duo purchased two dilapidated housing project buildings, known as Brick Towers, in Newark, NJ, for $25,000.

Shortly after refurbishing the buildings, they sold them for $3.2 million, realizing a significant profit on the revitalized distressed properties.

However, it was not all plain sailing. His Dallas estate only sold for $36.2 million in 2017 despite an initial listing price of $132 million.

Seeing the opportunities in the banking sector, Beal established a bank in 1988 and another one in 2004 in Las Vegas.

By expanding his banking operations, Beal acquired financial assets and held them before profiting as market conditions improved.

Investing In Power Generation

He branched into power generation and infrastructure bonds during the post-Enron California blackouts in 2001.

Beal had an eye for a good deal, and his banks invested in debt instruments backed by aircraft following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

During the 2008 global credit crisis, Beal acquired commercial and real estate loans, capitalizing on chaos in the market by stacking distressed assets.

Beal Bank continued to perform well, with a reported return on assets (ROA) of 8.1 in 2008, surpassing the industry norms.

By June 2019, Beal had amassed a fortune in his banking investments of over $2.7 billion, with additional assets surpassing $7.2 billion.

With 37 branch locations and online banking services, Beal’s banking empire is substantial, offering deposit products insured by the FDIC.

He has specialized in wholesale banking, focusing on non-agency residential first liens and commercial real estate-secured loans.

Beal’s Growing Banking Empire

His major business ventures include Beal Bank , Beal Bank USA, CSG Investments, Inc., Loan Acquisition Corporation, and CLG Hedge Fund, LLC.

In 1997, Beal made a play in the aerospace industry by establishing Beal Aerospace, aiming to launch communications satellites into orbit.

Along with other billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos , Beal’s company hoped to capitalize on the growing extraterrestrial communications market.

Beal Aerospace employed more than 200 staff and initially focused on developing a three-stage rocket powered by hydrogen peroxide and kerosene.

Unfortunately, Beal miscalculated badly, and competition from NASA’s Space Launch Initiative and a lack of governmental subsidies closed Beal Aerospace in 2000.

Over the years, Beal has donated millions to support science and math initiatives, and his banking group sponsors annual science and technology fairs.

He has also donated $1 million to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas to expand their educational resources.

A Self-Taught Mathematician

Beal’s other companies donated computers to the Dallas Independent School District, giving students better access to technology.

He is an amateur mathematician and is self-taught in number theory. He is known for his work on the Beal Conjecture.

This theory, proposed in 1993, has implications for Fermat’s Last Theorem. Beal is offering a $1 million prize for its proof or disproof.

Beal uses his incredible brain to play high-stakes poker games and is a regular participant in matches against professional players in Las Vegas.

He is confident enough to compete against stars like Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, and Dan Bilzerian, among other popular card players.

In May 2004, Beal won $11.7 million in a single hand, a feat that impressed poker aficionados worldwide – not that he needed the money.

His poker exploits are described in Michael Craig’s book, “The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King: Inside the Richest Poker Game of All Time.”

He has been recognized in the business world by winning the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award for his contributions to the banking and finance industry.

Beal’s visionary leadership and industry-disrupting reputation have led to him becoming one of the richest people in the world through his banking achievements.

As of May 2024, Andrew Beal’s net worth is $10 Billion.

Lakshmi Mittal Net Worth

What is Lakshmi Mittal’s net worth?

Net Worth: $18 Billion Age: 73 Born: September 2, 1950 Gender: Male Height: 1.75 m (5 ft 9 in) Country of Origin: India Source of Wealth: Entrepreneur Last Updated: May 9, 2024

Lakshmi Mittal is an Indian steel magnate and the chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steelmaking company.

Mittal owns 38% of ArcelorMittal and holds an 11% stake in Queens Park Rangers F.C.

As of May 2024, Lakshmi Mittal’s net worth is estimated to be roughly $18 Billion.

Lakshmi Niwas Mittal was born on the 15th of June, 1950, in Sadulpur.

Mittal studied at Shri Daulatram Nopany Vidyalaya, Calcutta, from 1957 to 1964.

He graduated from St. Xavier’s College, affiliated to the University of Calcutta, with a B.Com degree in the first class.

In 1976, the 26-year-old Mittal opened his first steel factory, PT Ispat Indo, in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia, due to the Indian government’s curbs on steel production.

When he finished school, Lakshmi Mittal attended St. Xavier’s College at the University of Calcutta, where he studied for a B Com degree.

After graduating, he went to work in the family business but never imagined that he would head up a conglomerate like ArcelorMittal.

His father, Mohanlal Mittal, operated a steel business called Nippon Denro Ispat and, in 1976, opened a steel factory in Indonesia.

Due to government restrictions on steel production in India, Mittal opened his first steel factory outside the country.

Purchasing Steel Works Around The World

Mittal then purchased the state-owned steel works in Trinidad and Tobago in 1989, turning them into profitable ventures within a year.

Until the 1990s, the family’s main assets in India included a cold-rolling mill in Nagpur and an alloy steel plant near Pune.

Mittal’s younger brothers, Pramod Mittal and Vinod Mittal, manage the family business in India while he is in charge of the UK-based company.

In a surprise 1995 deal, Mittal “purchased” the Irish Steel plant  for a nominal price of only IR£1 from the government.

Six years later, in 2001, the Cork plant was closed, leading to criticism and environmental issues, but Mittal had already moved on.

Moving Into Central America

He acquired the assets of Ispat Mexicana and Ispat Karmet before December 2001 and, in November 2001, acquired Sidex Galati.

This business was renamed Ispat Sidex in December of that same year, and two years later, he was once again on an asset acquisition drive.

In October 2003, Mittal’s LNM Group acquired steel assets from the Romanian and Polish governments on desirable financial terms.

Petrotub Roman was renamed Ispat Tepro as part of the acquisitions in Romania, and Mittal reportedly utilized Marek Dochnal’s consultancy to influence Polish officials.

A Hostile Takeover Bid

In 2006-07, Mittal succeeded in a hostile takeover bid for Arcelor, renaming it ArcelorMittal and acquiring steel assets across Europe.

The “Mittal Affair” in 2002 involved controversy surrounding Tony Blair and his apparent support for Mittal’s bid to buy Romania’s state-owned industry.

Mittal’s significant fluctuations in net worth have been well-documented.

In 2016, Forbes ranked him as the 135th-wealthiest billionaire.

However, Mittal’s net worth was said to have peaked in 2008, making him one of the wealthiest individuals globally at that time.

Funding Harvard University

Mittal’s philanthropic endeavors include the 2010 donation of $1 billion to establish the Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute at Harvard University.

He now serves as the chairman and CEO of ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel-making company based in the UK.

Mittal’s leadership has seen ArcelorMittal expand its operations globally, with significant investments in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

He has been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, in 2008.

Lakshmi is known for his strategic vision and ability to easily navigate the complex negotiations required of international business agreements.

Mittal’s acquisitions and mergers have reshaped the global steel industry, positioning ArcelorMittal as a key player and threatening existing players.

Like Warren Buffett  and Francois Pinault , Mittal is uniquely placed to influence world markets due to his strategic business investments.

Criticism And Legal Challenges

He has, however, faced strong criticism and legal challenges over environmental concerns and labor practices in some of ArcelorMittal’s operations.

Mittal’s leadership style emphasizes innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in steel production, which has resulted in the growth of his business empire.

He has invested in research and development to enhance ArcelorMittal’s technological capabilities and environmental performance worldwide.

But Mittal’s influence extends well beyond the steel industry, with investments in real estate, technology, and other consumer goods sectors.

Acquiring A Soccer Team

Mittal was one of the leading contenders in acquiring and disposing of Everton and Wigan in the Barclays Premiership soccer league.

In 2007, it was revealed that the Mittal family had acquired a 20% stake in the Queens Park Rangers football team, joining Mittal’s pals Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore.

Amit Bhatia, Mittal’s son-in-law, joined the board of directors because of the investment, keeping an eye on the investment for the family.

'Vijay Mallya can't avoid the law': Herts villagers on 'fugitive' billionaire neighbour

Residents of sleepy English village of Tewin give verdict on Kingfisher Airlines tycoon, wanted in India to face allegations of fraud

V ijay Mallya, the multimillionaire co-owner of the Force India Formula One team and self-proclaimed “King of the Good Times”, does not appear to be preparing for his possible extradition to India to face a fraud trial on allegations over £1bn of unpaid debts .

Landscape gardeners were this week laying a truckload of fresh turf in the grounds of his £11.5m mansion in the sleepy Hertfordshire village of Tewin, nearly Welwyn, 20 miles north of London. After the installation of three fountains in one of two garden pools and a four-car garage to house a fraction of his collection of 260 classic cars , the lawn should be the last step in the two-year makeover of his Ladywalk estate on Queen Hoo Lane.

The property, previously owned by the father of F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, bristles with so many CCTV cameras (the Guardian counted eight) that a security guard dressed head-to-toe in black appeared at the wrought iron gates before the Guardian even had a chance to ring the bell. “You can’t come in,” he said.

Personalised sign outside Mallya’s £11.5m Hertfordshire home.

Asked if it was possible to speak to his boss, the guard – who was working with two colleagues carrying binoculars and iPads showing live feeds of the security cameras – said only: “He might be in, he might not be.”

Mallya was once known as the “Branson of Bangalore” for his business and sport empire which included beer, spirits and an airline. But his fall from a billionaire playboy – known for his beer company Kingfisher’s take on the Pirelli calendar and for hosting celebrity parties on his 311ft superyacht Indian Empress during the Monte Carlo grand prix – to alleged fugitive from justice was completed this week when he was arrested by Scotland Yard on an extradition warrant.

The police said Mallya, 61, was arrested on behalf of the Indian authorities in relation to accusations of fraud. The tycoon dismissed the furore surrounding his arrest as “media hype” and said his arrest and appearance at Westminster magistrates court was “expected” before an extradition hearing. He denies the fraud allegations.

Usual Indian media hype. Extradition hearing in Court started today as expected. — Vijay Mallya (@TheVijayMallya) April 18, 2017

His security guard refused to answer any more questions as he stood at the gates to the estate, which are flanked by black posts embossed in gold with Mallya’s VJM initials.

A Silver Maybach also bears the VJM initials on its number plate , and his private Airbus A319 jet had the initials painted in gold on the engines and wingtips until it was put up for auction to pay his creditors.

A sign with a picture of Mallya’s four dogs – golden retrievers Luna and Bella, and Bichon lapdogs Elsa and Daisy – urges workmen to drive slowly through the three-house estate.

Many residents of Tewin said they had never met Mallya.

His neighbours know Mallya lives next door but they have not met him and are a little wary of the media after the Indian press corps camped outside the gates for days when it was revealed last year that the businessman was holed up there.

India’s prime minister has singled out Mallya, accused of fleeing the country owing about £1bn to banks and employees of his failed Kingfisher Airlines, of ripping off India and Indians.

Narendra Modi, who the Indian press said raised Mallya’s extradition with Theresa May during her official visit to the country last year, tweeted:

Indeed. There is no place for corruption in India. Those who looted the poor & middle classes will have to return what they have looted. https://t.co/sG6W9UECcp — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) April 18, 2017

Mallya denies the accusations and tweeted: “Not a rupee was misused.”

The landlord of the Rose & Crown on Tewin’s village green said he had not seen Mallya since he and his considerable staff moved to the village but he had heard him. “I don’t know him, I’ve never met him, but I have heard his helicopter flying over,” he said.

Several members of the Tewin Thursdays walking group, who were planning this week’s walk over coffee and sourdough toasties at the Country Bumpkin tearoom on Tewin Hill, admitted to being fascinated by Mallya’s presence in the village. “This is not the most exciting village,” said Chris, a retiree organising this week’s work.

“His [Mallya’s] house used to be owned by Anthony Hamilton, Lewis Hamilton’s dad, so it has always been a talking point. A public footpath runs round the property so we have been able to see all the changes and comings and goings, but he seems to keep very much to himself.”

Chris said Mallya’s secretary had expressed interest in joining the walking group, but she had not yet met them for their weekly hike.

While many residents said they were happy to have Mallya living in their village, Colin, a retired airline catering manager who lives in a house on the green, said if Mallya was being legitimately sought by the Indian authorities he should “go back and face the music”.

Mallya’s 311ft ‘Indian Empress’ yacht, near Hvar island in Croatia.

“It doesn’t matter how much money you have or how rich you are, you can’t avoid the law,” Colin said. “It’s disgusting that he is living here in all this luxury if he owes his country money and hasn’t paid his staff wages.”

More than 4,000 Kingfisher Airlines employees went without pay for seven months before they revolted and grounded the carrier in October 2012.

The staff in the Tewin Stores village shop said Mallya probably has staff to do his shopping and they had not met the billionaire either. But, they said, Mallya had rather incongruously attended a charity barn dance in nearby Bull’s Green.

They pointed to a small but welcome act of generosity from the glamorous alleged fraudster last year. When a hit-and-run driver wiped out the village fir tree, which doubled as Tewin’s Christmas tree, the man once estimated by Forbes magazine to have been worth $1.6bn dug deep and donated a replacement.

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).
