AirYacht reveals radical 52m airship-yacht crossover concept

Flying yachts, once the stuff of our wildest, most outlandish dreams, are slowly inching closer to a reality. As the industry prepares for the 2022 Superyacht Design Festival , BOAT catches up with  Guillaume Hoddé, co-founder of AirYacht, and Franck Darnet, the yacht's designer, to learn more about an exciting concept that's set to take to the skies in 2026...

Swiss company AirYacht has unveiled a radical new concept that marries the flying power of an airship with the luxury amenities of a superyacht.

Capable of flying between 100 to 3,000 metres above the ground with an autonomous cruising time of around one week, the AirYacht's groundbreaking design is composed of two separate modules: a 200-metre helium-filled airship attached to an ultra-lightweight all-carbon 52-metre superyacht residence.

The three-storey residence can be landed in its entirety or it can deploy a 12-person elevator to allow guests to disembark for a quick stopover.

Each module has its own complement of crew - the airship will have a crew of three and the residence will have a crew of 12.

The AirYacht is the brainchild of Guillaume Hoddé and Matthieu Ozanne, who founded the company in 2017 and enlisted the design expertise of Franck Darnet , who most recently worked on the exteriors of 63.8 metre Atomic . Born in Nantes and immersed in the world of Vendée Globe racing boats, Darnet has a masterful knowledge of "weight performance" technology that makes him uniquely suited to the challenges of airborne yachts.

The residence will have the same layout as a superyacht, with three decks, 750 square metres of indoor space and amenities including a gym, sauna, swimming pool and touch and go helipad.

Accommodation is provided for between ten and 12 guests in a five or six-cabin layout. Terraces, which can be used while the AirYacht is both underway and stationary, flank the starboard and port sides and there is an additional 120 square metre terrace-style lounge on the aft.

Aerodynamic shape and low weight are crucial to the design of the AirYacht. In order to keep the vessel as lightweight as possible, the residence component won’t be fitted with engines.

This creates additional space and increased flexibility to tailor the interior layout, while also allowing the residence to be built at AirYachts’ own facility without the need for a shoreside shipyard. When the residence is detached and on water, it will be towed by its tenders.

The AirYacht aims to give passengers the freedom to roam anywhere in the world, from lakes and seas to deserts and mountains. “On a normal superyacht you have to stay at sea. You can’t cross a hill or a mountain,” said Franck Darnet. “Most of the beautiful things that you see on our planet - some of them are next to the shore [...] but a lot of them are inland.”

In order to conceptualise the residence, Darnet had to rethink various different aspects of design. To this end, the crew quarters are in the forward upper part of the residence - in the section that ‘plugs’ into the airship - in order to give the crew to access the airship module.

The AirYacht also features large sections of glazing in the hull that allows passengers to look down, “because the most spectacular things that exist when you are flying are on the floor,” said Darnet.

While the AirYacht will be able to fly at dizzying heights of around 3,000 metres, the vessel is designed to cruise at heights of between 100 and 200 metres to allow for crystal-clear views of the world unfolding below.

The AirYacht will require ‘early adopters’ for it to take off - both literally and figuratively. “This isn’t a new ship, or a new yacht or new plane. This is a completely new thing,” said Guillaume Hoddé, co-founder of AirYacht. ‘New concept, new design. It’s like a dream.”

Currently, the AirYacht is powered by hybrid technology. “In ten years, we hope to have a full hydrogen version,” added Hoddé.

The first AirYacht will be able to achieve top speeds of 50 knots and the first unit is due for completion in 2026.

Guillaume Hoddé will be attending the 2022 Superyacht Design Festival to shed more light on the AirYacht and discuss the future of flying-focused yacht designs. The event will be held in Milan from 22-24 June. Tickets are still available to purchase .

Sailing in the Sky: The AirYacht Takes Luxury Cruising to New Heights

luxury airship yacht

Superyacht builders compete fiercely to create the ultimate luxury cruise ships, equipping them with everything from dual helipads and wine cellars to discos, basketball courts and underwater observation rooms. Swiss entrepreneurs and engineers Guillaume Hoddé and Matthieu Ozanne might have them all trumped with the AirYacht. It comes with a 650-foot blimp. What separates it from other superyachts of the world is its ability to cruise not just on the water, but above the water. It can float over mountains, canyons, rainforests and icebergs, hovering over views you’d otherwise only see fleetingly from the cramped cockpit of a low-flying plane or the side window of a noisy helicopter.

“It’s not just a boat; it’s a full concept,” says Hoddé. The three-level, 200-foot yacht is attached to the underside of an air balloon, or airship, as Hoddé calls it. Conceived in partnership with renowned yacht designer Franck Darnet, the boat element or “living quarters” has everything a status-seeking yacht owner could want: 15 luxury staterooms, quarters for 15 staff, jacuzzi, swimming pool, three sundecks, gym, sauna, helipad (for when guests drop in) and a garage for cars and jet-skis.

luxury airship yacht

While standard superyachts go from point A to point B by revving up huge engines and churning through the water, imagine, instead, being picked up, ship and all, by a huge blimp that hovers overhead like a mother ship, lowers a system of cables that attach to the yacht, lifts it up and tucks it in. It then carries you off, elegantly and noiselessly, to your next destination, anywhere from 165 feet to 9,000 feet above the water. “It takes less than 30 minutes to raise the vessel,” says Hoddé. “About the same amount of time it takes for a yacht to dock in a harbor.”

If you feel like staying on land for a while, or you’d like to land on your estate, it can set down just about anywhere with special landing gear that secures and balances it on most terrains, short of the side of a mountain. “It’s an airship with a living space that you can detach and put anywhere you want, on water or land. It’s a boat, or it’s a villa, a chalet, whatever you want it to be,” says Hoddé. If you just want to go sightseeing for the day, you can go down, sans yacht, on an elevator attached to cables. It can take you back up later for dinner with a view on one of the three terraces.

luxury airship yacht

The full assembly, including blimp and boat, will set you back 150-million Euros, and requires a permanent crew of anywhere from 10 to 30—as does any superyacht. They will check where you want the yacht to land, to be sure that in terms of security, there is nothing in the way and no people coming. The landing gear compensates and balances the boat on land. No flight plan is required because the airship flies by VFR (visual flight rules), like a helicopter or a small engine plane. “Let’s say you are in the west of France, on the Atlantic coast and you were supposed to go Normandy, for example,” says Hoddé, “and you want to change because the weather forecast is not good, and you want to go to Monaco or Cannes instead. The only thing you have to do is to check that the weather forecast will be good enough and you will have enough autonomy in terms of fuel (it can cruise for about a week at a time). A private jet has to book a slot and it’s more than a flight plan. You have to be sure that control will be able to take you from A to B and they will have space in the air. With the airship, you don’t have to stick in a tunnel that the control gives you, as long as you’re flying below 10,000 feet (the AirYacht goes to about 9,800 feet).”

When on the water, the yacht basically functions like a luxurious floating dock. It isn’t the sort of boat that you’d want to drop in the middle of the ocean. In fact, it doesn’t have a motor. “We don’t want it to be a traditional ship because a ship has to answer to a lot of certification issues, and if we added an engine, it would be too heavy for the airship—its weight would be multiplied by 10,” explains Hoddé. “If you want to go sailing, you can rent a boat. With the AirYacht, you go sailing in the sky. It’s a much better view.”

luxury airship yacht

Hoddé conceived the idea for a blimp/boat 20 years ago while he was an engineering student at École Polytechnique in Paris. “I predicted that airships would be necessary in the future to reduce consumption. I put the idea aside and after going to business school and working 10 years in the luxury watch industry, I happened to open a magazine dedicated to superyachts and noticed a company developing airships. It inspired me to continue pursuing the idea that airships could be the future for yachting as well as for cruises. And to do that I could rely on new developments that were being made.”

Some of AirYacht’s clients will be cruise ship companies who will be able to take luxury cruising literally to the next level. “It will be the world’s first air cruise. Clearly a game changer,” says Hoddé. “Cruise companies have big issues right now in terms of sustainability. The ships release sulfur dioxide. What we are doing is purely hydrogen-powered airships, so there are no emissions. And because of the elevator, there are no limits to where you can go. You don’t have to build a harbor, you don’t have to build a big infrastructure. You just hover over the place you want to be and you take the elevator down and disembark.”

luxury airship yacht

He adds that with an airship, you can reach parts of the world that have never been accessible to cruise ships. “You can do the French castle cruises in two weeks, except that you’re something like 500 feet over the castle and the view is much more magical than being on the ground. If you’re at 300 feet, you can even open a window or have dinner on the terrace, and you can see people, animals. You can smell, you can hear things. It’ll be a completely crazy experience.”

This Flying Luxury Yacht Attached to a Zeppelin Looks Downright Amazing

Do we get to seize these once the revolution starts.

Ever wanted to soar high over the Earth in a yacht attached to a zeppelin? If you're of the "superyacht" class, you may soon get the chance.

Created by Swiss designers Guillaume Hoddé and Matthieu Ozanne, the "AirYacht" combines a 197-foot superyacht, alongside a 656-foot helium blimp to transport the luxury seafaring vessel to any destination of its well-heeled potential clients' choosing.

Like something out of a retrofuturistic scifi flick, this magnificent hybrid craft would not only allow the uber-rich to sail rivers and seas in an elegant three-story vessel that can house 12 people, but also transport the yacht much more easily and with much more aplomb.

The yacht itself — known as "the residence," because who doesn't wanna live on a luxury boat that can also float in the sky? — houses a gym, sauna, and swimming pool per specs from Darnet Design, the French company that conceptualized this masterpiece.

In interviews with the  Robb Report , the designers expounded on the boat's enviable amenities: a Jacuzzi to accompany the pool, as well as a helipad and garage. So not only can one park their cars — yes, they did use the plural — on this fancy boat, but they can also have it flown wherever they like lower it to the ground using an elevator, without ever needing the zeppelin to land.

This gorgeous craft isn't scheduled to come to fruition until 2026, but if you're loaded enough to want to fly your superyacht on a blimp, you can place a preorder now.

These New Luxury Airships Hope to Be the Superyachts of the Skies – Robb Report

Dirigable

Hybrid Air Vehicles

Less than a century ago, the airship was the symbol of elegant travel, gliding silently across the skies. The explosion of the Hindenburg changed the fate of airships in an instant, giving them the reputation of floating bombs.

A number of companies in the U.S. and Europe are trying to stage a comeback for these floating giants, marketing them not only as an antidote to loud, emissions-spewing jets, but also as a much more civilized way to travel.

The Airship 2.0 is certainly a different beast from the zeppelin of 100 years ago. The latest generation relies on non-combustible helium, and bulletproof materials that like vectran, mylar and kevlar to make the balloon both lightweight and durable.

image

The Airlander 10, which is ready for production, promises a much more civilized way to travel by air than jets.

Companies like Flying Whale in France and U.S.-based Skunk Works, the research arm of Lockheed Martin, are designing airships to carry cargo and medical supplies to remote locations around the world. Skunk Works says its airships could be used as passenger carriers if buyers want to modify them after purchasing the design.

California-based Aeroscraft has a 220-ft. airship in production that uses solar power for propulsion. The company says it can be used for jaunts, such as trips between Hawaiian islands. Aeroscraft forecasts that it will be another three to five years before its airship receives FAA certification for passenger travel.

The company has also been working on concepts like the Neona, a futuristic, donut-shaped flying saucer. More UFO than floating superyacht , the company did not give a timeline for when Neona might go into production.

image

California-based Aeroscraft makes a traditional-looking airship, but is also working on the flying-saucer-shaped Neona as a personal sky yacht. Aeroscraft

A U.K. company is leading the charge for creating airships that will undertake passenger journeys, much like a cruise ship or yacht. Hybrid Air Vehicles said its floating goliaths will offer private passenger travel beginning in 2024. These full-featured airships will have lounges, master suites, offices and spas. The company says it will also offer sushi counters or in-room refrigerators for long-distance cruises.

HAV has launched a full-scale prototype of its Airlander 10 and has a much larger airship, the Airlander 60, for transporting cargo. The Airlander 10 has a base price of $50 million, while models with full specs cost an additional $10 to $20 million. The company says it has 15 letters of intent for the airships, though it has yet to sign any private individuals. Luxury travel groups plan to use them for safaris, hopping from one camp to the next, or another operator wants to fly the airships from Svalbard, Norway, and land near the North Pole.

Since airships don’t need runways, they are perfect for out-of-the-way destinations or hopping between private islands. These levitating leviathans can reach 300 feet in length, with cabin space of about 150 feet. They’re much slower than airplanes, though they still cruise at about 80 mph.

image

Flying Whale plans to use its airships to ferry cargo and medical supplies into remote regions. Flying Whale

“Our ability to operate without runways means that we can fly point-to-point,” company spokesperson Rebecca Zeitlin told Robb Report . “That means that someone with an estate outside London and a chateau in the French countryside can make a much more direct journey than London to Paris.”

The airships are delivered with helium and are topped up every year as part of the regular maintenance schedule. “They’re rather like a superyacht, with the same level of luxury inside,” says Zeitlin . “We like to think of it as a fast yacht rather than a slow aircraft .”

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

Is it a boat? Is it a plane? Well, folks, Lazzarini ’s futuristic new concept is a bit of both.

The disruptive design studio, which routinely delivers extreme marine creations , has just unveiled a flying superyacht called Air Yacht that looks as though it’s come straight from a sci-fi flick. The vessel’s tech is at the bleeding edge, too, with helium being the main source of fuel.

Made from carbon fiber, the Air Yacht has one main 262-foot hull sandwiched between a pair of 492-foot airships. These two “floating balloons,” as Lazzarini describes them, will be divided into hives to store helium gas. Think of it as a superyacht with two blimps that can lift it to the skies.

Sky Yacht

The Air Yacht can either fly or sail.  Lazzarini Design

The Italian outfit hasn’t gone into too much detail regarding how this propulsion actually works but says the compressed helium allows the Air Yacht to “fly” for up to 48 hours at a top speed of 60 knots. The cruiser is also equipped with eight counter-rotating electric engines powered by ultra-light batteries and solar panels. This setup enables the yacht to sail on the water at 5 knots with no noise or pollution.

“With the Air Yacht, there is a way to sail the sky without emissions damaging the future,” the studio said in a statement.

Lazzarini assures the vessel packs all the features of a typical luxury yacht as well. The central hull comprises a large dining area and living room, along with the master cabin which offers a large ensuite and sprawling panoramic views. To top it off, this hull features a helipad and swimming pool on the roof.

The futuristic superyacht still is equipped with a swimming pool, of course.  Lazzarini Design

The two accompanying airships, meanwhile, can be accessed via four separate bridges and each offer five ensuite staterooms with expansive windows to take in the vistas when in flight.

As for who will pilot the Air Yacht, Lazzarini says the vessel is not intended for “touristic purposes.”

“It’s for a private owner who wants both a superyacht and evolution in aviation,” the studio adds.

Like all of Lazzarini’s creations, from the swan-shaped megayacht to the 276-foot superyacht with a giant hole in the superstructure, the Air Yacht will remain a concept until somebody chooses to make it a reality.

The first pavilion of Crocus Expo IEC hosted an extraordinary exposition of the 5th International exhibition of yachts and boats Moscow Boat Show. The show had been incredibly famous for five years already not only thanks to the specialists of the market segment as well as professional sportsmen but also thanks to those who consider sailing sport to be their hobby and well cherished dream.

Moscow Boat Show 2012

Moscow Boat Show 2012

The organizer of the project was the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre. The show was supported by Aston Martin Moscow, Burevestnik Group logistics department and the Yachting specialized magazine.

The exposition space increased up to 30 000 sq m and was accommodated in all 4 exhibition halls of the fairgrounds! 280 Russian (Arkhangelsk, Vyborg, Kazan, Kaluga, Republic of Karelia, Moscow and Moscow region, Nizhny Novgorod, Novorossiysk, Novosibirsk, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Sverdlovsk region, Sochi, Chelyabinsk, Tyumen and Yaroslavl region) and foreign ( Denmark , Germany , Holland , Greece , Spain , Italy , Cyprus , China , Latvia , Poland , USA , Turkey , Ukraine, Finland , France , Montenegro and Croatia ) companies participate in the show.

Moscow Boat Show provided the perfect platform from which to preview new products, evaluate market trends, and establish long-lasting and commercially profitable partnerships. Despite the dynamic changes taking place in Russia and the rapid growth of the yachting sector, the show continued to complement and reflect the industry’s demand and is a promotional opportunity not to be missed!

Unique exhibits were presented at the show for the first time: exposition of private submarines from U-Boat Russia company, Marquis Yachts 420 SB motor yacht from Sport Bridge S. Marine series, SAGA-415 yacht from Saga Boats Norwegian shipyard, Jetlev-Flyer from MS Watersports.

Moscow Boat Show a Great Success

More than 400 yachts were displayed within the frames of the event including the largest boats ever exhibited in Russia – the 19-meter giant motor yacht Princess 54 as well as the Princess 50 yacht from Nord Marine and Baja speed boat from Burevestnik.

Domfinland OY unveiled a luxury project from Finnish real estate: a seaside premium class hotel in Hanko named consonant with the location Merihanko.

The trade fair was traditionally opened by a Gala Opening Ceremony. Arcady Zlotnikov, First Deputy Director Crocus Expo IEC, was the first to take the floor at the official opening ceremony. He greeted warmly exhibitors, guests and visitors of Moscow Boat Show. Nikolay Krjuchek, Deputy Chief of the State Inspection on Small size Vessels (GIMS) of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Russia, Georguiy Shaiduko, Acting President of the Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS), Olympic champion in Atlanta and Ekaterina Grishechkina, Director of exhibition Moscow Boat Show also spoke at the ceremony.

The high-ranking guests noted dynamic development of the branch which well reasoned the intensive growth of the exposition and appearance of rather unique “gems”.

A number of business meetings and negotiations were held within the frames of the project: the exhibition was visited by a large delegation of Greek businessmen for the purpose of establishment of mutually beneficial cooperation with the Russian colleagues.

Russian Yachting Federation (VFPS) celebrated its 100 anniversary within the frames of Moscow Boat Show and arranged an exposition of future sailing sport museum (rare awards, gifts, articles from private collections, pictures and etc.) which had been collected since 1912.

Due to carefully chosen running dates the show was visited by more than 26 000 people. The majority of the visitors were of targeted audience – vessel owners and specialists of the branch.

The work at the next edition of the show is under way! The show will be held in March 2013. The overall exhibit space will comprise 40 000 sq m. The exhibition will impress with exclusive exhibits and the latest technological achievements.

Moscow Boat Show was not only an entertaining but at the same time a business promotional event. Participation in the trade fair was a unique opportunity to present a company and products to a distinctly selected targeted audience of industry specialists. They were well prepared to discuss business in the Russian market and even to close a deal on-site.

The show helped representatives of yachting business to get acquainted with their Russian colleagues and gradually improved national yachting market to a new level. It is obvious that for 5 years of its running the project has turned to a status event of the international exhibitions calendar.

See Four Seasons' upcoming ultra-luxury cruise with a $350,000-a-week suite bigger than most homes

  • Four Seasons says it will begin sailing an  ultra-luxury yacht cruise in January 2026.
  • The 222-guest vessel would have 95 spacious suites and 11 dining options — but food wouldn't be free.
  • The largest suite would have four floors and bedrooms, a spa, and a price of $350,000 per sailing.

Insider Today

Four Seasons plans to expand its high-end hotels and resorts portfolio with a luxury 222-guest cruise ship.

The company says the 95-suite vessel will debut in January 2026 and cost a minimum of $20,000 per weeklong sailing.

For that price, the luxury hospitality giant says travelers would enjoy a one-to-one guest-to-staff ratio and massive suites spanning as many as four floors. If all goes as planned, the 679-foot-long Four Seasons I could become one of the most expensive and opulent options in the cruise industry.

The ultra-plush 14-deck Four Seasons I is scheduled for 19 voyages in 2026 to more than 130 Caribbean and Mediterranean ports.

Reservations opened two weeks ago. Those interested can register to join a waitlist or book through a travel agent.

So far, "sales have been very encouraging, and the demand is exciting to see," Thatcher Brown, chief commercial officer and head of joint operations for Marc-Henry Cruise Holdings, told Business Insider in a statement. The company is a joint owner and operator of Four Seasons Yachts.

Renderings make the Four Seasons I look as opulent as the brand's land-based properties.

luxury airship yacht

Four Seasons says its vessel will have 95 suites ranging from 537 to 9,975 square feet, some with three bedrooms.

The smallest suite starts at $19,700 for a five-night roundtrip voyage to Athens, Greece.

No windowless interior cabins here: Like other ultra-luxe cruises, the suites would all have terraces and floor-to-ceiling windows.

luxury airship yacht

Customers could expect upscale amenities like a walk-in closet, down-filled duvets and pillows, and marble dual vanity bathrooms, per Four Seasons.

The most premium suites would also feature additional accommodations for "personal assistants," such as au pairs or security personnel.

Some options, like the 7,952-square-foot Loft Suite, could be adjoined with seven other cabins to accommodate up to 20 people.

luxury airship yacht

Without connecting cabins, the Loft Suite would already have three bedrooms and bathrooms, a powder room, and a sauna.

Others, like the largest Funnel Suite, would have its own spa and kitchen.

luxury airship yacht

Four Seasons says the 9,975-square-foot mansion, partially perched in the ship's glass-lined funnel , will span four floors, four bathrooms, three bedrooms, and three powder rooms.

Not to mention the private elevator, pool, and $350,000-a-voyage price tag.

Accommodations of this price and size are generally unheard of in the cruise industry.

luxury airship yacht

Luxury operator Silversea says the largest suite on its upcoming 728-guest Silver Ray will be 1,324 square feet. Competitor Regent Seven Seas' new Seven Seas Grandeur debuted in 2023 with a more expansive six-guest 4,443-square-foot option.

Both suites' sizes and prices — Regent's starts at $42,000 per person for a total of $252,000 at maximum occupancy — would be stunted by Four Seasons' promise of a 9,975-square-foot, $350,000 floating mansion.

But cabins with six-digit prices aren't unheard of.

luxury airship yacht

While not a luxury cruise line, Royal Caribbean's popular three-floor townhouse on the new Icon of the Seas is being booked at an average of $100,000 a week — although it's about four times smaller than Four Seasons' largest.

Royal Caribbean and other mass-market cruise lines are beloved, in part, for their unlimited complimentary food options.

luxury airship yacht

Regent Seven Seas' all-inclusive fare also covers caviar, foie gras, and Champagne.

But don't expect any of these to be free on the Four Seasons I.

Breakfast would be complimentary. Lunch, dinner, and booze would not.

luxury airship yacht

The vessel's 11 restaurants and lounges would be priced similarly to Four Seasons' on-land properties. (A dinner entrée at its resort on the Caribbean island of Nevis — also one of the ship's destinations — ranges from $34 to $163.)

The pricing structure may sound odd to most cruise traditionalists. (Hey, at least WiFi would be "free.")

luxury airship yacht

But some of the ship's amenities could look familiar: Like most cruise liners, the Four Seasons I would have a pool, spa, and clubs for children and teens.

The company also promises a lounge and marina that will open onto the water, giving guests direct access to activities like snorkeling or windsurfing.

Four Seasons Yachts plans to take delivery of its $399 million vessel, now being built by famed Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, in late 2025.

luxury airship yacht

A second Fincantieri-built ship would join the hospitality company's fleet the following year. The next vessel would cost more than 400 million euros, about $429.2 million, Four Seasons says.

This isn’t Four Seasons' first foray into itinerary-based vacations.

luxury airship yacht

The company has also found "tremendous success" in its private jet-based "cruises," Alejandro Reynal, the president and CEO of Four Seasons, told BI in a statement.

Its 2024 vacation-by-air itineraries started at $135,000 for a 16-day Asia tour. Demand has been growing, he said, "signaling that luxury travelers are looking for immersive, exclusive, end-to-end travel journeys that allow them to explore the world with their favorite brands."

But its new ultra-luxe cruise arm would be entering an increasingly crowded luxury market, soon to be dominated by like-minded hospitality giants.

luxury airship yacht

High-end Aman Resorts and Orient Express plan to launch their own luxury cruises in 2027 and 2026, respectively.

Staying ahead of the competition, Ritz-Carlton debuted its first 149-suite Evrima yacht cruise in 2021, with a second 224-cabin ship scheduled to begin sailing later this year. Its least expensive itinerary is currently $5,100 per person for a six-night voyage from Barbados to Puerto Rico in early 2025.

Interested in a hotelier-owned vacation at sea but don't want to pay the luxury price tag? Margaritaville's cruise is an affordable $75 for two nights.
