What our customers say

Hi David, Just wanted to pass on our thanks to your organisation for the private sailing boat charter we took yesterday skippered by Tino. The yacht was wonderful as too was the scenery but what really made the trip was Tino. He was exceptionally polite, knowledgeable and professional. His sailing skills are second to none. He took great pride in his job and the boat that he was in control of. He even caught a fish for us and was explaining to my young son in great detail all about Maltese fish – not to mention all sorts of details along the way. We certainly would have no hesitation in recommending your Malta Private Sailing Yacht Charters and Private boat rentals in the future.

Clint Waters - Melbourne, Australia

Dear David, We had a lovely time sailing around Malta with Tino. MoonSong is an awesome sailing yacht, you should be very proud of her. As for Tino, we can’t say enough good things about him. He was a great tour guide, telling us about the history of Malta as we sailed passed its battlements. He was a very able sailor, avoiding weather and making us feel comfortable and safe on the boat on a day with ever changing weather. The meal was tasty and the portions generous. Thank you for helping to make our Private yacht rental for Sailing in Malta the best day of our vacation! Kind regards,

Jane & Jeff Schmitz - San Diego, CA. USA

Thank you David for a fantastic sailing week yacht charter on the Moonsong! Both me and my family was very satisfied with your lovely boat and with the skipper Raymond.

Peter Iburg & Family - Sweden

David, Thanks again for the great time on the full day sailing boat charter to Comino Island. I own a sailboat and sail on the Chesapeake Bay in the U.S. Having an opportunity to sail in the Mediterranean Sea with an experienced captain in a very well maintained and equipped boat made for a wonderful day. Changing course of the boat when you heard of our interest in St. Paul to show us St. Paul’s Bay and his statute and all the other information/history you shared about Malta made the day very interesting for my wife, son, and I as well.

Ken Baker - United States

Good morning David, i wanted to let you know that we took a Sailing Yacht Charter this week with yourself and had the best day of our vacation. We booked our sailing yacht charter with Christina and our skipper for the day charter was Alex who i might add was fantastic. He made our trip magical his knowledge of the sailing boat and the sea was second to none. Every one on board the yacht has not stopped talking about our boat trip. This was my first trip to Malta but it won’t be my last on my next visit i will be using your service on one of your boats again without hesitation. Please send thanks to your good lady wife who i understand prepared our wonderful lunch.  Thank you once again David.

Darren Nancarrow - United Kingdom

Dear David, Just a short note to say thank you. We had an amazing charter on-board one of your yachts. Charlie was an amazing host, his sailing skills were great and the food on board was great and truly appreciated – well prepared from very good ingredients. Having a day out at sea on a private sailing yacht charter was absolutely lovely.

Toni Immanen

Hi David, Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed today on board your sailing yacht during our day charter. Just enough wind to sail and with your skipper’s help – found a lovely place to anchor off St Paul’s islands. The Skipper was fun to be with and his stories made our sailing day charter one remember for a long time. Thanks again for sorting everything.

Adam, Adam & Louise – United Kingdom

Hi David. I just wanted to say what a lovely afternoon we had sailing on your beautiful boat. Staffan was so nice and explained a lot of the history of Malta he was so charming and we were all so relaxed. It’s really made our holiday so very special. We can’t wait to come back and book a Private yacht charter with you again in August. Thank you so much for the great sailing yacht charter experience and please pass on my thanks to Staffan.

Zoe Gregory - London, UK

We chartered the Beneteau Cyclades 43.3 sailing yacht. The boat is in immaculate condition and boasts of all the facilities you would need/expect to find on such a boat. The Captain was David who is the owner/operator. David is a very experienced captain and knows the waters around Malta, Gozo, and Comino inside out. From the minute you step foot on the sailing boat you immediately feel at ease knowing that you are in very good and capable hands. David’s pleasant personality, coupled with his polished professionalism as well as his thorough knowledge of the Maltese Islands made for a fantastic day charter out at Sea. A true 5 Star experience. Thank you David. I would certainly recommend Sailing Charters Malta to anyone wanting to charter a yacht in Malta and will definitely be using their services again very soon.

Martin Spiteri - Malta

We had a great time sailing on our day trip on 7th August on your boat. Tino was excellent, nothing was a problem. We were especially grateful for the attention he paid to the two children in our party, making sure they were always safe but enjoying themselves. Thank you for the cake too! Highly recommended yacht charter.

Hayley Grice - United Kingdom

Dear David, I would like to drop you a line highlighting our much enjoyable experience during our sailing boat charter last Tuesday. The day started with very light wind but then had favourable windy conditions late afternoon on our way back. So, being relatively a first ‘full’ sailing boat experience for us we had a great time on board. However, I (we) must admit that it was Tino who made the day for us. His unwavering interest and intensity with which he addresses all boating/seamanship issues are second to none. His ease of hands-on approach together with his personality made our day one to remember. Not to mention that the boat was spotless clean and in best shape. Hats off to Tino. I am positive that your company will keep thriving with people like Tino on board. He is an asset through and through. Keep up the good work. Finally, we look forward to sailing again on your yacht in the future.

Anthony Scicluna - Malta

We spent the day sailing on a lovely 43 foot sailing boat which we rented from Sailing Charters Malta Ltd for our Private Yacht Malta Charter event. The Skipper for the day was David who is also the owner. Everything went smoothly from beginning to end. The boat was in perfect condition; clean from top to bottom & everything was in perfect working order. David made our trip one to remember. His expertise and friendliness throughout the trip made it the perfect day out. We will surely be using Sailing Charters Malta again and would definitely recommend this company for a Malta Yacht Charter. Truly a 5 star yacht charter experience…..Keep it up!!

Liz Baker - Malta

Hi David, We wanted to thank you for our private sailing trip when in Malta. Everything was wonderful, we especially wanted to thank Tino for showing us around. We have worked with many skippers but he tops our list. Thanks again.

Aylin E. Cicek

Hi David, So sorry for the late reply but was having some difficulties with my phone whilst in Malta. We are home now and back at work. Thank you so much for the photo, we will all treasure it forever. Last Thursday’s boat trip was amazing. We all had such a fabulous day sailing. From the moment of arrival until we left, we were all made to feel so welcome and looked after and would not hesitate to charter from you again. Alex was a brilliant host and his sailing skills are simply amazing. So informative. We asked so many questions and he was able to answer every one of them. He looked after us so well. The food was phenomenal, please thank your wife for preparing it for us, we ate heartily and were so full after. I cannot praise your company enough and will be writing you a review on Tripadvisor. All 8 of us had the most wonderful sailing day charter on your yacht which we will never forget. Thank you so much again

Tina Sharp - United Kingdom

I am an American Citizen temporarily living in Malta and have chartered a sailing boat twice with Sailing Charters Malta (Jeanneau 32, Beneteau 43). Sailing Charters Malta is an excellent boat & yacht charter service that i would strongly recommend to anyone wishing to experience Malta, Gozo, or Comino in a private setting from the beautiful Mediterranean. The service is very punctual and responsive to initial inquiries and specific requirements of the client. For both of my Malta Charters, the Captain was the Owner / Operator of the boat and were very technically qualified with life knowledge and experience sailing the Maltese Islands. Having exposure to boat ownership and operation in the United States, I would describe both of the boats that i chartered to be in impeccable condition. I would like to close with a special Thank you to David for the excellent day and memories with my parents who are visiting Malta to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary.

Tim Baker - United States

Dear David, I hope this e-mail finds you well. We arrived safe on Friday at home and we are happy to be back after our holiday in Malta and after having spent a day sailing on your yacht. Tomorrow the real life will start again and before we are completely absorbed by it, I wanted to say thank you again for the great day my family and I spent with you on your boat. Many thanks to your wife for the delicious food she prepared for us. I wish you and your family all the best and much success! Best regards.

Ricardo Bernasconi & Family - Sweden

What a relaxing day on a boat! I do recommend to anyone who is looking for a great Malta sailing yacht charter service and in particular, to spend a day to unwind and chill.

Mark Grech - Malta

Dear David, We are now back in England having had a lovely holiday in Malta celebrating our ruby wedding anniversary. I want to write to thank you for your contribution to making it such a successful event. Your no fuss yet organised approach leading up to the day sailing on your yachts on a private charter was very reassuring, your instructions clear and precise. Moonsong was a lovely boat and Tino a most able and knowledgeable skipper. Alex and I were so happy he had worked with Birdlife and that he could help us identify the birds we came across whilst sailing. We were also all impressed by his general knowledge that made the trip so much more interesting. He went beyond providing us with an amazing day charter on a boat.  Thank you also for being there to meet us in person in the morning and for the lovely food you provided. Congratulations to the cook. The whole family had a most enjoyable time during our private yacht hire and we would certainly look you up should we want to repeat the experience on your yacht.

Rose Krzyz - United Kingdom

Hi David, Just wanted to thank you for the sailing yacht charter yesterday. We had a great time on your boat and will hopefully be back next year for another day of sailing. I will also pass on your details to more of my friends from Australia who are keen to visit Malta and do a sailing yacht charter. Thanks for a great day.

Adam Zen - Australia

Dear David, We have just returned from our wonderful day sailing on your yacht and what an amazing day we had. I would like to let you know how really friendly and helpful we found Tino, nothing was too much trouble. He was full of great information and also was wonderful with the children, they will not forget today in a hurry. We even had a lovely freshly caught fish for supper on the way home. Again thank you for providing us with an excellent experience for our sailing boat charter rental from your company and please pass on our thanks to Tino.

Malta yacht charter

Someplace on earth seem to have been designed with heaven in mind. Malta is one of these slices of heavens right in the Mediterranean Sea center with many tricks to impress you up to its sleeves. Throughout history, aristocracy, royalty, and elegance have reigned over the splendid city and left several historical traces. Malta's landscape is carved with baroque churches, creamy, golden limestone houses, and Egyptian influenced temples. Malta may be described as a Mediterranean masterpiece, painted with cultural and historical colors, and natural wonders. A walk through the capital city of Valletta will undoubtedly leave you an unforgettable memory.

Why charter a yacht in Malta?

It was once said that an island could only be called such when viewed from the sea. Chartering a yacht in Malta will genuinely offer you a way to appreciate the island's beautiful gifts. From your yacht's vantage point, explore the stunning Valletta and the Three Cities, with its fortification, rocky cliffs, and bays around Malta, Gozo, and Comino. Inland or off the land, Malta has plenty of ways to transform your stay into an incredible adventure. Whether you decide to explore Valletta's iconic landmarks in your yacht's comfort, including the historic Fort St Elmo or the touristic praised Valletta Waterfront. Beyond Valletta, you will find traditional villages, spicing up your holidays, such as Marsaxlokk, Gozo, and the Three Cities. Malta has a wealth of underneath treasures you will admire as you wander through the azure sea on your yacht board and take a dip at Comino to discover the artificial reefs. For a whole boatload of reasons, Malta is indeed the crowned jewel of the Mediterranean Sea.

What are yacht charter prices in Malta?

Yacht charter in Malta takes a refreshing turn as you anchor your fleet at one of the most exclusive places. With the expertise of your crew, the average rate for Catamaran starts at $1,200 per day. You may find catamarans as low as $470 for day use in Malta. If catamarans aren't your cup of tea, sailboat and motorboats are available for rent from $4,000 to $500,000 weekly. For a world-class comfort and luxury exhibit, charter a yacht from $15,000 for a day.

When is the yachting season in Malta?

The yachting season in Malta spreads over seven months, running from early April through late October. The Spring months that are April and May, have unclouded skies and warm weather, ideal for chartering a yacht. As the temperature increases as we enter the summer months, you will have the full possibility to explore the sea gifts beneath Malta's shorelines from June to September. The winter months are unsurprisingly mild in Malta. As a Mediterranean city, Valletta and the surrounding city are summery in winter compared to the rest of the European continent. Yet, for yacht chartering, it is not recommended to venture in the sea.

Malta yacht charter for a day

Malta in a day on a yacht charter is a unique event as you start the exploration of this stunning archipelago. One day on a yacht charter in Malta isn't enough to fully celebrate the natural island gift, from UNESCO World Heritage Sites to timeless fishing villages and biological hotspots. On the must-see attraction is Popeye Village, a postcard like a site overflowing with vintage colored residences and surrounded by emerald water. Built on Anchor Bay and for Popeye, the musical production, the island as a quirky and tacky ambiance you wouldn't want to miss. Depending on the months you will be visiting, Popeye Village surprises visitors with its themed festivities, whether it's Easter, Halloween, or during the carnival season, witness the transformation under your eyes. Cradled by the waves of the Mediterranean Sea, set sail to the Blue Grotto. As the name suggests, the Blue Grotto is a collection of seven caves, sparkling with translucent and bright blue water. As the sun set, anchor at the Senglea harbor to watch the sunbeam lighting up the cobbled streets and monuments with orange streams.

Malta yacht charter overnight

Delight in an overnight yacht charter in Malta to immerse into a whimsical world. The Blue Lagoon has a particular place in the heart of the Maltese people. Located on the island of Comino, the Blue Lagoon feels like we are dipping in a borderless swimming pool. On the schedule is a gorgeous day swimming in clear water, snorkeling, diving, or kayaking. For a little moment of privacy, swim to Cominotto where you can enjoy the sea for yourself. As if the Blue Lagoon wasn't enough, Comino Island was also graced with the Crystal Lagoon and equally praised for the water experience without the crowd's horde.

Malta yacht charter for a week

After a day spent in the capital city Valletta, exploring the many Romanesque monuments, most notably Rotunda of Mosta, Grandlaster's Palace or Gardjola Gardens, travel to Gozo unparalleled adventure. Compared to the bustling capital Valletta, the quiet sister is a discreet haven, bursting with greenery, history, and local folklore. Gozo is said to be the perfect isle of Calypso in Homer's Odyssey; yet you don't visit Gozo for a myth, but because of its legendary landscape and magnificent coastline. Amongst many things, Gozo is home to the Blue Hole, on its own, seems to be an out of this world experience. Venture away from the sea coastline to meet the picturesque Ta'Pinu Basilica. A religious shrine, originating from the catholic tradition, the basilica is an unchartered territory to tourists and an opportunity to visit the place exclusively. Continue your journey to Comino island before landing in Cospicua, one of the Three Cities. Relatively unvisited, yet a testimony of Malta's maritime fortune, Vittoriosa, Senglea, and Cospicua form part of the Three Cities. The Three Cities are an indelible symbol of the Maltese lifestyle, starting with the iconic palaces, churches, forts, and bastions.

Wedding yacht charter in Malta

There is nothing comparable to a wedding in Malta. Splendid at the core, a wedding yacht charter in the historical city of Valletta is flawless. For a sunset cruise or a day charter, Malta's landscape is the most stunning wedding backdrop you could have. With a touch of Maltese culture, sail to Gozo for a laid-back wedding, with a sprinkle of culture and greenery, or navigate to the sparkling island of Comino where you may trade your wedding attire a swimming suit.

Luxury yacht holiday in Malta

In the world of yachting, superyacht and megayacht are arguably the crowned jewel in the connoisseurs' eyes. Onboard of your majestic fleet, navigate to incomparable sightseeing locations, with Goza and Comino vying for your attention. Explore the rarely unexplored Delimara, Blue Grotto Caves, St Julians, and St Paul's Bay for a unique landscape.

Discover the Fascinating Maltese Archipelago by Boat

A destination of mythical quality, whose three most popular islands include Malta, Gozo, and Comino.

Feel inspired by sailing in Malta on the same seas as the Phoenicians, Romans, Greeks, Normans, and Swabians, all while relaxing on a Malta yacht charter or a catamaran rental in Malta . Situated in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the coast of North Africa, the Maltese islands are home to an abundance of historic sites, temples, fortresses, and classical monuments, from Calypso’s Cave to The Inquisitor’s Palace.

The Mediterranean never disappoints when it comes to beaches, and no trip to Malta is complete without a view of the ocean. The island’s stunning crystal waters can be accessed by numerous beaches, sandy coves, and harbors, all of which offer the perfect launching spot for a boat hire in Malta. The optimal beach time stretches for six months between April and October, giving you plenty of options for when to book your Malta boat trip. Whether you prefer the excitement of large, expansive beaches, such as Golden Bay in the northwest of the islands, or would rather take your time to appreciate the simplicity of small sandy beaches like Saint Thomas Bay, the Maltese archipelago offers some of the most stunning beach destinations in the world. Looking for something extra special? A Sailo boat hire in Malta allows you to discover further hidden wonders, such as natural swimming pools carved into rocks at St Peter’s Pool, or the spectacular rock formations and caves known as the Blue Grotto.

While sailing in Malta is most popular, due to the island’s size and reputation, let’s not forget its close neighbouring islands of Comino and Gozo. These dazzling treasures are situated in perfect proximation to the island of Malta, making them easily accessible to tourists and sailors alike. While Malta boasts an exciting cluster of stunning architecture, nightlife, restaurants, and bustling beaches, the islands of Comino and Gozo offer an alternative, more rural, yet equally majestic experience. Each of the sister islands have an array of accommodation to choose from, whether you prefer to stay at an authentic farmhouse in Gozo or a relaxing hotel in Comino. If you love swimming and diving, Comino is the perfect choice, while Gozo’s rugged landscape of historic sites is surrounded by an equally breathtaking coastline. Comino is the smallest of the three islands, situated between the big island and Gozo, so it presents the perfect connecting point for your sailing adventure around the archipelago. Weekly boat rentals in Malta are available to allow you to take full advantage of everything the three islands have to offer during your trip.

With the coastlines of three islands to choose from, and all of them in close proximity, the diving opportunities in Malta are unparalleled. Sailing Malta’s surrounding waters on a boat rental allows tourists, visitors, and inhabitants to access some of the most special and unique scuba diving locations in the Mediterranean sea. What makes this area so perfect for diving conditions are its clear waters, rocky underwater formations, and rich sealife. Here you will also find two of the most famous dive sites in Europe: Cirkewwa in Malta, and the Blue Hole in Gozo. The Blue Lagoon is one of the island’s most famous attractions, and is perfect for families looking for an exciting yet relaxing day of snorkeling, or for serious divers eager to explore the depths of these mythic waters. Malta boat trips and boat rentals provide ultimate flexibility and possibility for adventure, as well as access to the numerous inlets and caves scattered around the archipelago. Many favorite diving and sailing spots in Malta include Imġiebaħ Bay, Għasri Valley, Azure Window, Inland Sea, and Cathedral Cave.

Guide to Malta

A Mediterranean archipelago where the West meets the East

Lying south of Sicily and to the north of Africa, the Maltese archipelago sits like a jewel in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea. Of this stunning cluster just three islands are inhabited which are Malta, Gozo and Comino. Malta is the largest island of the trio and boasts the cultural heart of the archipelago, whilst Gozo and Comino are untouched and secluded.

The Republic of Malta has long been an international crossroads and lies in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea. Boasting an eventful history, few European countries are as steeped in history and culture as Malta, with beaches, ruins and picturesque cities all entwined in a concentrated area. Exploring Malta by charter yacht is an idyllic way to discover secluded bays and rugged coves and with warm crystalline waters a great way to take advantage of the best diving spots.

Remnants of Malta’s vibrant past can be found in the prehistoric ruins, beautiful baroque architecture and stunning cathedrals. The capital city of Valletta is one of the most picturesque in Europe and home to one of the most attractive harbours in the world. This glorious harbour has been guarded for millennia by the astounding castle and fortress which gleams a golden shimmer as you emerge from the Mediterranean Sea.

Malta is a place of natural beauty, with rustic shorelines and sandy beaches all drenched in the glorious Mediterranean climate. A nation brimmed with unique charm and charisma, Malta hosts an array of shops, bars and restaurants with a couple of places for an exuberant night on the town. As a former British colony, Malta is still home to British pubs and phone boxes and English remains the official language alonside Maltese, in addition to some widely spoken to Italian.

The sleepy island of Gozo lies just north of Malta and is often popular amongst vacationers looking for a peaceful yacht charter. Entrenched with old traditions and stone buildings, Gozo is a fruitful land of rural retreats and treasured tranquillity. Comino, the smallest island of the three, lies nestled between Malta and Gozo and is home to only a small handful of permanent residents. The Blue Lagoon is a popular location for charter yachts and an excellent spot for diving enthusiasts. The sparkling cyan waters are framed by rugged cliff faces and offer stunning panoramic views.

Strong influences from English and Sicilian cultures have evolved to result in mouth-watering Maltese cuisine with a fusion of vibrant restaurants, speciality eateries and local fare where pork and stewed rabbit are to be expected. Although influenced by an assortment of cultures, Malta itself is renowned for wine making and has won several accolades over the years for its talented grape harvesting, so be sure not to leave without a sample.

Shopping lovers will enjoy meandering around the many flea markets, designer boutiques and arty antique shops whilst beach lovers will enjoy the stretches of golden sands. This remarkable archipelago is an idyllic charter destination for ultimate relaxation and escapism with something to suit every visitor.

Backround image

We offer boat trips around Maltese Islands since 2006 and would love to welcome you on board for either a Private Charter which is exclusively for your group or a Public Cruise which is shared with other guests. Both experiences offer great comfort on our spacious catamarans.

Why would you choose a catamaran?   Easy, they offer stability, space and comfort.

Public Cruise

Joining a Public Cruise is a great idea if you are looking for a non over crowded cruise, best experience with 4 course meal, an inclusive drink’s package with beer, wine, fruit juices, soft drinks and water and plenty of space be it seated at a sun protected table or in the huge sunbathing area, it is your choice how to spend your day! Our Public Cruises are perfect for families, honeymooners, couple anniversaries, group of friends and solo travelers.

Private Charter

Choice of three great boats for your event at sea.

Both vessels have a nice sound system to which you can connect to by Bluetooth, tables under a sun protection to dine or play cards on, access to the sea for swimming, 2WC, large nets at the front of the boat to sunbathe and a very spacious deck area to enjoy yourself during the day.

Of course we are fully licensed and insured to the latest rules and regulations and, of course, experienced in what we are doing.

TIP TOP ONE

If you prefer a more private setting or an event for groups of up to 65 Persons, we can also cater for this with various food menus, drinks and water-sports options. Feel like having an anniversary, with cocktails, freshly prepared BBQ Lunch, Jetski rides and a Masseur? “Tip Top One” our largest catamaran with dimension of 25m (82feet) length by 12m (39feet) width is your choice.

TIP TOP TOO

If you would like to hide away with a smaller group towards a remote bay in Gozo or Malta with an additional visit to Blue-Lagoon in Comino while enjoying chilled drinks and a light lunch? We recommend “Tip Top Too” for you. “Tip Top Too” is smaller than “Tip Top One”, but still larger than other catamarans in Malta with a length of 17+m (57feet) and 9+m (30feet) width. Perfect for 6 to 20 persons. Larger groups also possible

Picard Power Catamaran is the latest, modern and fastest catamaran in our fleet both impressive in terms of space and performance. Large Flybridge enjoying 360 degrees sea view, indoor and outdoor seating at a table. Loads of cushioned lounging areas were you can lie or sit, bath towels are provided too. During lunch time the crew will prepare the table with a delicious Mediterranean Lunch and serve chilled beverages.

  • N1170CRkarenm 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Good locations, too many people Pickup was easy and organized. For the most part I enjoyed the stops, and the lunch, while not amazing, was better than I expected (pasta, a meat and veggie dish and a traditional pastry). Sylvia was friendly and knowledgeable, and easy to hear, though perhaps a brighter umbrella would be easier to see from a distance. There are some problems that arise from having such a big group—we started with 50 in the morning, and 40 after the half day folks left. Walking takes a bit when there are that many people; lunch also went over. Perhaps because of that or the holiday, we weren’t able to get into the parking lot for Mdina glass at the artisans village and ended up at the filigree shop; we only had 20 minutes there, and it was late in the day so no artisans were working, so it was more of a bathroom/shopping break. • Leeds99 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Lots to see and do. Well organised tour and a good English speaking guide. There was lots to see and plenty of time to see everything. • J4557ALryanp 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Interesting tour Really interesting tour. Tour guide Alana was lovely and very knowledgeable. Got to see a good few sites throughout the day and learn a lot about them all. Lunch was included at a really lovely restaurant. Definitely worth the money. There was one minor hiccup with transportation to the starting location and I had to wait over an hour after my given pickup time, but the staff were very apologetic and kept me updated throughout the wait. I still met the group at the first location and Alana gave me a quick one to one guide of what I had missed. Read more Written March 12, 2024
  • Janice M 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Disappointing Please see my Medina and Highlights of Malta Full Day with Lunch review for info on how you are picked up. This tour felt very disorganized. We left late from the rendezvous location and missed our ferry back at the end of the trip. Apparently only a limited number of passengers are allowed on board depending on how many crew members are available. Makes sense but wouldn't that be a detail our tour company took into consideration? Instead we stood half in and half out of the building in line watching the clock tick by with no explanation. The lunch was fine, smallest serving of ice cream I have ever seen, but our guide publicly chided fellow travellers over a special menu request. Considering that there was most definitely a language issue involved, it could have been handled much more professionally. The Ggigantes were interesting but one of the other tour guides delivered her info on the stones making it impossible for others to tour them without pushing and shoving our way through. We often crossed paths with this group leading to a merry chase catching up to our guide. In comparison to the Medina tour I was left very disappointed. The small bus and van drivers were excellent. • Liv28travels 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Go via public transport rather than this tour I have enjoyed doing half day/day tours in several different countries in Europe and feel I get so much out of them; the history of the country/places we visit, cultural difference. I always recommend that people do some sort of tour walking/food/ day trip whenever they go to a new country. This tour was not it. It felt like a money making exercise. You start by being loaded into a mini bus from your hotel and then meet all the coaches taking you at the ‘shopping area’. The tours in English, French, German, Italian, Polish (could have been more) all happen at the same time in the same order. Which meant that wherever you traveled to there was always 4/5 coach loads of people. (Which felt far too busy for most of the places) The tour guide was very friendly and helpful but you got such a small amount of info from her (and the facts given on the bus sounded like they were read off a sheet of paper). We had a lot of free time at each stop (sometimes far too much - in order to encourage us to buy from a particular place). When in Mdina in free time a different company’s tour came past and listening to that I learnt more than the entire 8 hours of the one I paid for. I would not bother and instead use the fab transport links to visit each place. It would have been just as easy - you would have learnt the same amount from looking at the signs and visiting museums and saved money! Although don’t go to the ‘shopping area’ that is definitely a money making exercise from the company. Also the stop for lunch, there are far nicer places to eat in Malta (overcooked pasta and tin of sauce) Read more Written March 6, 2024

  • Janice M 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Quick introduction to Malta Our tour guide Maria was great. She was well organized, personable, very knowledgeable and informative. Having done similar tours in the past in other locations, I have learned that the more there is in a one day itinerary, the less deep the experience is. So as an orientation to Malta we were introduced to Mdina and Rabat, and had a quick photo op at Dingli. Although an important point about water supply was made at the Garden, this could have been left off the tour giving more time elsewhere. The time at the Crafts Village was strictly for shopping but there was no pressure put on us for which I am grateful. The way the tour was organized was unexpected. We were picked up at our hotels or nearby location by a polite gentleman in a van. We were then driven to a rendezvous with multiple other vans and large tour buses where we met our guide. With a 9:00 am start we headed off from there at 9:40. Maria shone once again at the end of the day. We were asked to remain seated as she read our vehicle assignments for the trip back to our staring points. She then called out the names of each vehicle and where it was located and that group of people left the tour bus. Impressive organization at the end of a busy day. Given time I would now like to go back to both Mdina and Rabat and have a more meaningful visit. Read more Written February 7, 2024

Pick up and drop off were smooth and easy. The sights were fantastic, and Marija was really a star. She was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about her country and history. She was eager to answer questions and discuss both historical and current events. While the lunch was not the most amazing meal I’ve ever had, it was satisfactory and all told the tour was good value for what you get. We were able to see a lot and learn tons. I don’t think it was too long of a tour, and I appreciated the hustle from Marija to make sure we got to see the maximum number of places. Thanks! Read more Written January 26, 2024

Why Book A Private Boat Tour In Malta?

Good question-and from my experiences I have so many great reasons why you should!

To start, there are so many epic places to explore in Malta , but unfortunately some of them, you can only see by boat. I loved exploring these hidden gems but on a normal boat tour, you don’t usually get the chance to swim or properly stop at them.

However, with a private boat tour many of them will find you a fully private area for you to swim and enjoy each one!

If you are travelling with someone else or as a large group, private boat tours also usually work out cheaper than most other tours as many include hotel pick-ups, food, drinks, snorkelling gear and professional staff to guide you through the waters.

The main advantage for me though was most Captains and Skippers are actually locals.

So not only will they know the best spots to visit that most visitors wouldn’t dream of visiting, but they will plan the most incredible itinerary based on your exact wants and needs!

Private Boat Tours In Malta FAQ

I’m sure you have a few more questions before deciding which private boat tour to book- I know I did!

There are so many boat tour options around Malta, Gozo and Blue Lagoon it can be hard to know which one will suit you the best. I did so much research before booking mine and realised there were a few things I wanted to clear up before hitting that book now button.

To help you experience Malta in the best way, here are the most frequently asked questions and answers travellers just like you and I have:

It depends on what boat trip you book. However, the majority will take you around the Islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino. You may also get to visit some great places on the way like Blue and Crystal Lagoon.

The summer months are a great time to book, but the temperatures can get unbearable. For the most enjoyable experience, it’s recommended to book a boat tour in June or September. During these months you will get great weather, fewer crowds and sometimes better deals.

There is a ticket booth where you can purchase your tickets before going. It costs €8.00 for Adults and €4.00 for Children. Just check the weather first before going as if conditions are bad you cannot visit.

It is possible to visit Malta’s Blue Cave without a tour as you can buy tickets there. However, you cannot go alone. You will still need to go on the boat with a trained skipper to keep you safe.

Absolutely and it is one of the best ways to explore the Blue Grotto. This way allows you to explore at your own pace and gives you the chance to swim in the waters as many boat tours don’t give you a chance to swim here.

You do not need to book a private tour of Malta’s Blue Lagoon, but it is highly recommended. If you prefer to get there on your own you can take a quick ferry from Gozo (15-minute ferry) or Cirkewwa (25-minute ferry ride).

You can swim in Malta’s Blue Lagoon with no problems because it is a stunning sheltered area with the bluest waters. Just keep in mind that it is a really popular place for tourists to swim, especially in the Summer months.

The Best Private Boat Tour Malta Options Final Thoughts

If you are looking to experience the very best of Malta , there is no better way than on a private boat tour!

Full of hidden coves, secluded beaches and off-the-beaten-track swimming spots, Malta’s coastline is a paradise. The weather is also so fantastic that you can even do these tours and swim during the winter!

But a lot of the spots are only accessible by boat and not known by many tourists, this is why I enjoyed seeing Malta in this amazing way.

To avoid the crowds and have your own tailored experience by a true local, a private trip will make your getaway unforgettable. Whether you book a 3-hour boat excursion or a full-day boat trip to Gozo and Blue Lagoon, I’m sure you will enjoy exploring the Mediterranean waters as much as I did.

No matter if you have booked to stay in Gozo for a week or you are in St Paul’s Bay for a day, there is the perfect boat tour available for you!

Blue Grotto Historical Background

Interestingly, the Blue Grotto was not always known by its now-famous name. This majestic series of sea caverns owes its name to a British soldier stationed in Malta during the 1950s. The beautiful hues of the caves reminded him of Grotta Azzurra, the renowned Blue Grotto in Capri, Italy. He proposed the same name for these Maltese caves and since then, the name “Blue Grotto” has stuck.

Blue Grotto Geological Formation

To understand the formation of the Blue Grotto, we need to turn the clock back a few million years. The story begins with Malta’s unique limestone geology. Over countless years, the relentless action of the waves against the softer layers of limestone led to the formation of these caves. This process, known as erosion, sculpted the six caves of the Blue Grotto, each unique in its size and shape. Today, these caves stand as a testament to nature’s power and patience.

Blue Grotto Cultural Significance

Film shot in Blue Grotto Malta

Malta’s renowned Blue Grotto, with its intricate network of sea caves, has long been an emblem of natural beauty and cultural heritage. These breathtaking caves, reflecting myriad hues of blue, have been a source of fascination for both tourists and artists alike.

One cinematic masterpiece that elegantly weaves the beauty of the Blue Grotto into its narrative is “Luzzu” , directed and penned by Alex Camilleri. Blue grotto malta boat charter, caves with blue waters in malta

My First Visit to the Blue Grotto

Back in the early ’90s, when I was a mere nine-year-old, a day trip with my uncle introduced me to Malta’s Blue Grotto, a memory that still resonates with clarity. We began our adventure by descending a slope, our path intersected by fishermen working hard, tugging their boats up the hill against the backdrop of the Mediterranean sun. Their labor painted a vivid prelude to our main adventure.

Soon after, we stepped into a traditional luzzu, a boat adorned with bright colors that seem to capture the very essence of Maltese culture. With the boat’s gentle sway and the soft splashing of water against its sides, we ventured into the labyrinth of caves that the Blue Grotto boasts. Each cavern was a natural gallery, presenting rock formations of varied colors that contrasted beautifully with the shimmering blue waters.

Yet, the crowning moment, the one imprinted in my memory, was our boat gliding smoothly under the grand arch of the Blue Grotto. That sight was pure magic. Once our maritime journey concluded, we relaxed at a nearby eatery. There, with the taste of the sea still fresh, I indulged in a delightful ice cream, capping off an exceptional day in Malta

As we close this virtual tour of the Blue Grotto in Malta, it’s time to summarize the highlights of our journey. This unique natural phenomenon offers a mesmerizing boat trip experience, taking visitors through a network of six stunning caves, each with its own distinctive features. Its radiant blue waters, impressive arches, and diverse marine life promise an unforgettable adventure.

Throughout this blog, we’ve sailed through the history and geological formation of the Blue Grotto, navigated its accessible location, dived into the captivating experiences of boat trips, and answered common queries. We’ve also shared personal experiences and guest testimonials, adding more colours to the already vibrant palette of the Blue Grotto experience.

Visiting the Blue Grotto isn’t just about the boat trip; it’s about immersing yourself in Malta’s stunning natural beauty and rich history. It’s about witnessing a spectrum of blues you didn’t know existed, listening to the echoes of ancient rocks, and feeling the gentle spray of the Mediterranean Sea on your face.

In the end, no matter how many tales you hear or pictures you see, nothing can truly capture the magic of the Blue Grotto. It’s something you must experience first-hand. So, whether you’re a nature lover, an adventurer, a history enthusiast, or someone looking for a memorable boat tour, the Blue Grotto awaits with its arms wide open.

So, pack your bags, grab your cameras, and brace yourself for the spectacle that is the Blue Grotto. Here’s to making memories that will last a lifetime! Safe travels and happy boating!
