It Happens Here: Family at the heart of Danversport's long running success

DANVERS - For more than 50 years Danversport has been owned and operated by the DeLorenzo family.

If you have a wedding, anniversary, birthday or other event, this is the place to be.

"The Harborview Ballroom holds 650 people. Downstairs we have four more event rooms that hold about half this, 325, down to 20 people and we have one outside tent. The other side, we have our sister company which is Danversport Marina," operations manager Joe DeLorenzo told WBZ-TV.

And it's all about family - a very large family.

"I get to work with some of my cousins every day. My own father and some of my uncles and it's really great," said DeLorenzo.

"There's 17 cousins total, so that's our G3 and I would say on holidays, we all work there," said events manager Tanya Decoulos.

"It's amazing how well we all get along. We all get along so well and it's a great family to work with," said Dan DeLorenzo.

Their specialty is making sure your event is a memorable one.

"People that are having weddings here are the most that we do, but we do baby showers and bridal showers and it's really fun," Decoulos told WBZ.

The family's togetherness makes their business thrive. Everyone who works here is considered in the circle.

"We're also fortunate because we have the best employees around. We have employees that are like family really that have been here for as long as we have," said DeLorenzo.

There were no handouts. You have to earn your spot.

"I first started as just interning pretty much. Someone was going on maternity leave, So I wasn't even planning on working here," said service writer and pool manager Megan Cassola.

"We have 307 slips and we have pool memberships and it's just very family oriented and I take a lot of pride in making sure everyone is happy over there."

"We're here to make sure that people are celebrating life's events. That's our mission statement, that's our goal. We've been lucky to do it for a lot of people and we are so excited to bring in new people that haven't been to Danversport," DeLorenzo told WBZ.

The Harborview Ballroom is elegant. It is appointed with magnificent chandeliers and an expansive hardwood dance floor.

Supported Layouts and Capacities

Small weddings up to 80 guests can be held at Lighthouse Point and Courtyard, a private dining room with a dance floor and secluded courtyard.

The Terrace Ballroom is a wonderful choice for a classic ballroom venue and is suitable for up to 200 guests. When paired with the Waterfront Room up to 300 guests can comfortably attend.

Hi, my name is Walter Henry. I have been a member of Danversport Yacht Club for 40+ years. I have bought many boats in my lifetime. All different makes and sizes and many different dealerships. I have recently purchased a 215 Scout from Danversport Marina. I would like to give praise where praise is due. Not only is Scout a high quality boat, but I have never seen such great service and great mechanics in my 45 years of boating. I would highly recommend Danversport Marina for your boat sales and service.

Great place to keep your Boat and a wonderful sense of community with lots of support and activities

I just bought a new Scout 215 XSF from DanversPort Marina and found Alana and Brian to be incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. My wife and I must have visited every boat dealer on the north shore, and they were by far the friendliest and most accommodating. I was able to get a test ride on a similar boat immediately, which was not possible or offered at other dealerships (it helps that they are right on the water of course!). To complicate things, I had a special request - I wanted a boat with an Evinrude e-tec motor (Seems like Yamaha controls the market these days but that does not mean they are better!). Every other dealership I talked to just pushed what they had. Danversport was the only place that took the time to check with the manufacturer and work with my local Evinrude dealer (Browns Yacht Yard) to make it happen. I expected this "special order" to be challenging and pricey, but Brian and Alana, (and Browns) took care of everything. They even honored the package pricing, and I was able get the free 10-year engine warranty upgrade promotion. (Turns out Scout does equip boats with Evinrude, they just don't really promote it in this county - hmmm). I took delivery of the boat a month ago and it's perfect! We did initially have two minor issues, but Danversport came to my location and corrected them very promptly, so I can confirm they (and Scout) stand behind what they sell. (Completely the opposite of my experience with Russo Marine/MarineMax in Danvers, where I bought my previous boat, but that's a whole 'nother story.) Overall a great experience and a great crew, highly recommended!

My Husband and I chose Danversport as our wedding venue. They are absolutely outstanding. Lauren helped me through every step of the way and it really took a lot of stress off me from having to plan from across the country. When it came to the big day she kicked off the event flawlessly. We have wonderful memories now of our big day and it's all thanks to the Danversport team. I highly recommend this venue for any of your special events!!

I had a salad with grilled chicken. It was a large portion and food was good. The views of the water were nice. Inside was nice. I sat outdoors and it was decent. I went in a group of 35 and staff was nice but only one servant.

The staff at Danversport Marina do everything they can to make your buying experience as pleasant as possible. Brian and Alana are very knowledgeable and willing to do what it takes to get you into the boat of your dreams. Marina has everything you would need for a great day on the water.

I don't have a yacht (maybe I should fix that....), but I do work with organizations that rent facilities for major events. So while I can't speak to the Marina here, I can say that Danversport Yacht Club has a great setup for large business/fundraising gala-style events. We had a positive experience there earlier this year and would work with them again. Definitely a nice local option.

Our first season at DYC is so far so good. We moved the boat in last fall and had them winterize and spring commission our 32' fly bridge...very professional and helpful staff. The facilities are clean and uncrowded and they offer more amenities than most other marinas. 4 stars ONLY because they advertise 20 minutes to open water...maybe that was before the invention of no wake zones and drawbridges (2 of them)!!

I kept my boat during the winter for many years at the Marina. The last year I stored it there, the hull was badly damaged with a razor blade when the shrink wrap was removed. I reported it to Lena and she said she would take care of it. Their painter told me the hull needed to be re-awlgripped I was then told to contact my insurance and they said the same thing. The cost would have been 8-10,000. All this delayed my launching and I made them an offer to settle on 2,000 and I would get it touched up. Kevin D refused to negotiate with me and even charged us a late fee of 485.00 for exceeding our launch date. At this point, we called the police and their yard Forman stated the boat was hauled by the DYCM with no damage. Because of the damage and getting estimates which they requested they held the boat hostage and we were forced to pay the extra money and received no compensation for damage cause by one of their contractors. Both of the brother-managers refused to even come down and face my wife and I. We even offered to take a free pool pass for my grand children for the summer as partial compensation.
