FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Where i can more with yacht along the amalfi coast.

There are several options for mooring a luxury yacht on the Amalfi Coast. The equipped ports near the Amalfi Coast are Capri's Marina Grande, Amalfi's Marina Grande, and Sorrento's Marina Grande and Piano di Sorrento (on the Sorrento Peninsula). In Positano, on the other hand, there is no port, only a pier equipped for disembarking and embarking. There is also a buoy field in front of Fornillo beach. From these towns, you can quickly move to visit the inland villages like Ravello. All the Amalfi Coast is a Unesco World Heritage site.

With a superyacht you can also reach the Aeolian Island and the Sicily Coast or sail till Sardinia.

Between Capri and the Amalfi Coast, the only stretch of coast subject to restrictions is that of the Bay of Ieranto around Punta Campanella. Here you cannot enter with motor boats or anchor there. Instead, it is possible to stop along the coast, off Positano, next to the island li Galli, and around the island of Capri in front of the Blue Grotto or near the Faraglioni. These are just some of the mooring options available on the Amalfi Coast for luxury yachts.

All these places are the perfect yacht charter destinations.

What boats are available for rent on the Amalfi Coast?

There are a variety of boats available for rent on the Amalfi Coast. Motorboats, gozzi, inflatable boats and motor yachts are all options. The most famous shipyard in the area is the Sorrentine "Fratelli Aprea," which produces typical wooden gozzo boats in both basic and luxury versions. Pershing and Itama yachts are also available. You can also find old-fashion catamarans boats in wooden. However, sailboats and sailing yachts are more difficult to find as they are not very suitable for sailing in this area. Whichever type of boat you choose, you're sure to enjoy exploring the Coast from the water.

What staff will be onboard?

When chartering a luxury yacht for a stay on the Amalfi Coast, it is important to ensure that the vessel is staffed with a skilled and professional team. Renting a bareboat is not an option here for yachts. At a minimum, the yacht should have a skipper and a hostess on board; other figures such as chefs or masseuses can be arranged on request. The skipper will be responsible for navigation and safety, while the hostess will take care of passenger comfort and needs. Both roles are essential in ensuring charter guests have a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Head to Spaccanapoli – a popular street for shopping, dining, and church – where you’ll find boutique shops and classic pizzerias. Teatro di San Carlo, the world’s oldest opera house, is another must-see.

Sorrento Overlooking the bay of Naples, historic Sorrento is known for its breathtaking sea cliffs, enchanting Vesuvius and Capri views, luxurious resorts, and yacht-filled harbors. Stroll through its quaint cobbled streets and explore boutique shops, Medieval buildings, and antique churches. A tour of the historic city center offers glimpses into the past, as well as a smattering of shops, trattorias, and iconic views.

Ischia Floating on the northern end of the Gulf of Naples, the island of Ischia is home to nearly 30 thermal spas, more than 60 fumaroles, and over 100 hot springs. Perched on the tip of Mount Epomeo – an inactive, underwater volcano – Ischia paints a picture of pure, natural beauty: one complemented by plentiful vineyards and fruit trees, the dense Faiano Pine Forest, and streams of lava rock.

Why Charter a Yacht in the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast spans just 30 miles, yet it remains one of the world’s most majestic coastlines. From the cliffside villages, each more enchanting than the last, to the scenic beaches, Amalfi offers a truly Italian yachting experience, one you’ll remember for ages. There are numerous reasons why Amalfi ranks as one of the world’s best yacht charter destinations.

Capri panorama

Postcard-Worthy Views From land or sea, in Amalfi, you’ll be welcomed by absolutely striking views. Head to the villas above Ravello, which offers panoramic views of the sparkling Mediterranean and the dramatic-sloping mountains. The Spiagga Grande in Positano is another see-it-to-believe-it overlook, that offers amazing views of the village towering above.

Colorful Villages and Cliffside Towns The Old-World villages and towns along the Amalfi Coast are equal parts picturesque, trendy, and wrapped in history and culture. The pastel-hued town of Atrani is perched over the water, just at the base of the mountains, and boasts amazing cultural sights and exclusive beaches. The town center of Vietri Sul Mare is well-known for its bold-colored buildings, and namesake Amalfi is full of charm, where the Amalfi Cathedral is a must-see.

World-Class Food and Wine Foodies will love Amalfi’s distinctive blend of Italian and Mediterranean flavors. Citrus, olive, fig and, of course, seafood, are on every menu. Sample limoncello, the sweet after-dinner drink that’s a staple in the region. There are numerous upscale bistros and bars to savor the tastes of Amalfi. Try Franco’s Bar in Positano, which overlooks the historic harbor, for its well-appointed wine list. Cielo Mare Terra, the trattoria in Amalfi, is another must-try, known for its fresh fish dishes and stunning tableside views.

Things to Do and See on Amalfi Coast

  • Tour limoncello distilleries in Sorrento, and sample a flight of local aperitif.
  • Spend an afternoon savoring the views from Spiagga Grande (the Big Beach) in Positano.
  • Visit the Amalfi Cathedral and discover the region’s unique cultural heritage.

ENQUIRE ON Amalfi Coast YACHT CHARTER

Amalfi coast yacht charter faq.

The cost of chartering a yacht on the Amalfi Coast will start at around $20,000 a week, plus an additional 30% advanced provisioning allowance (APA), 14% VAT, and a discretionary tip. The APA will cover the food, drinks, fuel, and berthing during your travels, and the tip remains at the discretion of the client but is advised anywhere between 10% to 20% of the charter fee to thank the crew for their efforts.

The starting price for a yacht charter on the Amalfi Coast will be around $25,000 for a week for 6 guests plus expenses. There’s a vast selection of yachts available in the area, with many size categories to choose from: - A 20m motor yacht will cost around €17,500pw + all - A 25m motor yacht will cost around €25,000pw + all - A 30m yacht will cost around €70,000pw + all - A 40m superyacht will cost around €150,000pw + all - A 50m superyacht will cost around €250,000pw + all

The Amalfi Coast offers warmer weather earlier in the season than the South of France and the Cinque Terre. Chartering a yacht in April is a good solution to avoid the crowds, yet connoisseurs would most likely prefer to charter post-season in October to enjoy the warmer waters. The high season is July and August.

Most of the Amalfi Coast yacht charters will start in Naples, before embarking on a great cruise around the nearby islands:

- Naples - The birthplace of pizza and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take a stroll along the lovely ‘Lungo. - Ischia - The biggest island in the Bay of Naples and home to the famed hot springs. - Capri - Only reachable via boat, this is arguably the most desirable island on the coast due to its natural beauty. Explore the Grotta Bianca, Natural - Arch, Faraglioni rocks and the bay of Marina Piccola before retiring to watch the sunset. - Positano - A hidden gem nestled in the coastline and formed of pretty villages and great spots for watersports.

What to do on an Amalfi Coast Yacht Charter

The Amalfi Coast and Capri Islands boast a surprising string of Medieval towns perched on dramatic cliff sides and enchanting bays that can be approached by the sea on a luxury Amalfi Coast yacht charter . Discover the charming Italian streets of Positano , enjoy a drink under a bougainvillaea terrace in Sorrento , and swim in the secluded coves of Capri .

It is not surprising that jet-setters from across the globe flock to this exquisite coastline, where pastel-coloured fishing villages, sapphire waters, and delectable cuisine provides an idyllic setting for an Amalfi Coast yacht charter. Not forgetting the pristine landscape, flanked with lemon and orange groves and carpeted with Mediterranean shrubs.

On the Amalfi Coast, Positano has several beaches: from the elegant and intimate Laurito and Arienzo to the exclusive Fornillo that looks out across the sea to the Li Galli Archipelago, which is part of the Punta Campanella Marine Nature Reserve just in front of Capri. With its twisting narrow streets, ateliers specializing in hand-made goods, and the iconic stairs connecting the old town to the beach, Positano is a jewel nestled in this stretch of coastline that has no equal in the world. It is a must-see destination during crewed Amalfi Coast yacht rental.

Sorrento, Vietri , and Amalfi are equally impressive, with their elegant urban profiles and the unmatched charm of exclusive terrains popular with travellers who choose to hire a luxury yacht on the Amalfi Coast. Make sure you take the time to visit the town’s beautiful churches during your Amalfi Coast yacht rental , including the Basilica di Sant’Antonio, Sorrento’s oldest church and named after Sorrento’s patron saint. Inside you’ll find Roman artefacts, medieval paintings, and a mesmerising gilded ceiling.

An Amalfi Coast yacht charter is also the perfect occasion to glide among the grottos and Faraglioni of Anacapri and Capri and shop at their many luxury boutiques. That said, an Amalfi Coast yacht charter would be incomplete without visiting Capri’s arch of love, known as The Faraglioni di Mezzo, where three dramatic rock faces rise out of the sea, creating the famed trio of sea giants.

As a top italian Yacht Charter Company, Silver Star Yachting recommends visiting the garden of Villa Rufolo, known as the “Garden of the Soul”.

Today, you can see ruins left over from Capri's times as a Roman trading center and Byzantine Roman colony. Capri's atmosphere is from a fairy tale mixed with incredible gardens, fruit, and olive trees.

From your private yacht, head ashore and take the funicular to reach the small inland town of Capri. Explore quaint piazzas, have a bite to eat, and try some authentic gelato.

Afterward, head down to the waterfront Chiaia neighborhood for lunch or dinner. And lastly, drive 30 minutes out of town to Pompeii, where you can explore the spectacular ruins of an ancient city.

Extended Amalfi Coast Yacht Rentals

To explore southern Italy, you can combine an Amalfi Coast private yacht rental with another week exploring nearby Sicily. Or, travel up the coast along the Tyrrhenian Sea. For more, please see our two-week Amalfi Coast Itinerary example.

Aeolian Islands

The lush, volcanic paradise of Lipari and Panarea in the Aeolian Islands is a popular destination for yacht charterers. Situated just north of Sicily, these islands make for an easy trip from mainland Sicily or the Amalfi coast.

The Aeolian Islands are a group of islands in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily. They contain one of three active volcanos in Italy, Mount Stromboli. The other significant island to visit is Vulcano.

Tyrrhenian Sea

Explore the tiny islands of Ponza, Palmarola, and Zannone, all located in the Pontine Islands off Italy's southwestern coast. Secluded caves, fortresses, beaches, and crystal clear waters await you in this unique part of Italy.

The islands are between Rome and Naples. You can reach them on your private yacht charter from the Amalfi Coast or Italy's Tuscan Coast. You can tour the island of Elba, Giglio, and many more places in the Tuscan archipelago.

Guide to the Amalfi Coast

A legendary destination at every turn

Sweet lemon scents punctuate the warm Mediterranean air along cobblestone streets lined with bougainvillea-covered villas, back-dropped by mountains swathed in green and the cobalt blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Widely considered to be Italy ’s most picturesque coastline, the Amalfi Coast’s breath-taking landscape of towering bluffs and pastel-hued villages terraced into the tumbling hillsides have long made it a magnet for the world’s VIP travelers.

On any Mediterraneran private yacht charter , the Amalfi Coast is a must-visit. Snaking along the southern coast of the Sorrentine Peninsula, the strip of coast was deemed 'an outstanding example of Mediterranean landscape, with exceptional natural scenic value’ by UNESCO in 1997, and was awarded a coveted spot on the World Heritage list. It’s easy to see why when you experience first-hand the magnificent white-washed cliffs that sheer down into the sparkling sea, interrupted only by precipitous corniche roads and vibrant lemon groves. Once a maritime superpower, it now boasts world-class restaurants and luxury resorts though still retains its simple, rustic Italian charm.

Stretching from Punta Campanella to Salerno, these seductive shores include the beautiful hilltop towns of Positano, Amalfi and Ravello, with the celebrated islands of Capri and Ischia lying a mere champagne cork's pop across the glittering bay. From true extravagance to pure relaxation, a luxury yacht charter vacation along the Amalfi Coast is by far the best way to experience everything it has to offer. Lying at the mouth of a deep gorge, surrounded by spectacular scenery, the town of Amalfi is the perfect place to soak up the fantastic atmosphere through a maze of winding alleyways, steep architecture and bustling waterfront.

Clinging to the cliffs above tiny coves and secluded beaches is the notoriously exclusive town of Positano , home to Italy’s rich and famous. Its palatial glamour, gourmet cuisine and famous ‘Moda Positano’ are sympathetically blended amongst draped flowering vines, majestic olive groves and gleaming turquoise waters to create a truly hedonistic experience. Sitting serenely off the coast of Positano is the Li Galli archipelago of Gallo Lungo, Rotunda and Castelluccio. Their secluded nature and spectacular settings are ideal for diving in and exploring below the water line.

Privately renting a yacht to explore the Amalfi Coast promises no end of things to see and do, and you can rest assured your entire charter party will find something to love about this region of West Italy. Why Visit the Amalfi Coast on a Yacht Charter?

Iconic in Italy and a benchmark for a bucket list destination, Bespoke Yacht Charter will guide you to the best of the Amalfi Coast yacht charters where it’s possible to visit the popular coastal resorts and also enjoy traditional towns that preserve their authenticity, despite being one of Italy’s favourite tourist destinations.

Welcome to Bespoke Yacht Charter’s pick of the region’s highlights where exploring the Amalfi Coast on a luxury charter yacht is a pleasure and a slice of  la dolce vita!

Here are  7 Reasons To Add The Amalfi Coast To Your Next Yacht Charter Itinerary

Incredible Sunsets

Contrary to popular belief, the sun on the Amalfi Coast drops behind the mountains rather than over the sea, however it remains one of the best places in the world to watch the sunset and enjoy the romantic atmosphere of the twinkling lights on the pastel-coloured buildings and changing hues of the aquamarine sea.

When ashore, if you dream of a postcard snapshot of the sunset in Positano we think the best viewpoints are found at Franco’s Bar at La Sirenuse, the stairway on Via Cristoforo Colombo near Hotel Marincanto, or follow the 1700-odd steps from Positano to the small village of Nocelle set 450 metres above sea level with a birds-eye view of the coastline all the way to Capri. Nocelle is well known for the Sentieri degli Dei (Path of the Gods) hiking trail, so its best saved for energetic hikers!

Sun setting behind cliff face in Salerno Italy

Incredible Panoramas

Gavitella Beach, is the only beach on the Amalfi Coast that gets the sun all day until it sets.  Located on the Vettica side of Praiano, Gavitella is considered one of the magical locations to watch the sunset along the Amalfi Coast with an incredible panorama extending from Positano to the three islets of Li Galli to Punta Campanella and the island of Capri.

Other fabulous spots to catch the last rays of the sun on the Amalfi Coast include the Torre dello Ziro watchtower overlooking Amalfi and Atrani, the quirky Il Pirata restaurant at Marina di Praia and the Sunset Terrace at the historic  Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa .

Gorgeous Views

From the sea, exploring the Amalfi Coast is a true journey in beauty with pretty views of vertically-stacked villages, citrus trees and ancient defensive watchtowers. The SS 163 Amalfitana is the coastal road from Sorrento to Salerno – the road of a thousand bends – with Vespas zipping past rental cars heading to the next Amalfi hotspot. The road is a thrilling drive and plummets down towards the sea by way of a series of hair-raising turns; even on land you’ll find spectacular vistas of crystalline sea and verdant mountains.

Aside from the incredible views from your charter yacht, hotels and restaurants possess the best panoramic views on the Amalfi Coast – the Calajanara Restaurant in Conca dei Marini has a wonderful sea view terrace open in summer months, or relax with a drink at Ristorante Franchino at the Hotel Onda Verde in Praiano.

Ravello, known as the ‘city of music’ is located inland high above Amalfi and worth visiting for unbeatable views of sky and sea – stop for a cool  aperitivo  on the terrace of the Palazzo Avino   or admire the sea views amidst the wisteria-trailing formal gardens and statues at Villa Cimbrone. In summer time, a stage is set up at Villa Rufolo where Amalfi Coast yacht charter guests can soak up the panoramas listening to classical concerts and chamber music.

Agriturismo Villa Maria is a must-visit shore excursion when on yacht charter to the Amalfi Coast. Hospitable and knowledgeable, the owners make their own antipasti from scratch with wild fennel salami, olive oil and cheese. Take a bottle of their delectable fruit liqueur back on board after enjoying the views from the lemon groves above Minori.

Torre Normanna at Maiori is one of the most atmospheric places to soak up the views on the Amalfi Coast – a 13th century Norman tower perched on its own rocky promontory, it has a variety of romantic dining spaces with uninterrupted vistas of the coast and town.

Outdoor dining terrace at Refettorio restuarant, Amalfi coast

Ristorante Il Refettorio at Monastero Santa Rosa is an exceptional dining experience with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Salerno and exquisite dishes that fuse Mediterranean flavours with sun-ripened ingredients. To end your meal, try the seashell-shaped  sfogliatelle  pastry which was invented by the nuns and still found in  pasticcerias  on the Amalfi Coast and beyond. This humble pastry even has an annual festival called the Sfogliatella Santa Rosa in August dedicated to it!

For a casual meal, when strolling quayside do what the locals do and buy some  fritti misto di mare  from a street stall   that you eat out of a wrapped paper cone with a stick and pair it with a chilled tumbler of white wine garnished in peach slices.

Tantalising Food

Enjoying delicious food is a highlight of all yacht charters in Italy and having your own private yacht chef to create wonderful dishes from local ingredients is a sublime culinary experience.

For those occasions when you prefer to dine ashore, the Amalfi Coast is no exception to heavenly gastronomy when visiting Italy. Local dishes follow the changing of the seasons and are characteristic of Campanian life – fresh seafood and fish dishes, home-made pasta with regional tomatoes and dishes typical of the Lattari Mountains that form the backbone of the Amalfi Coast.

Look for menus featuring  parapandalo  shrimps,  scialatielli  pasta with clams or fresh octopus,  paccheri  stuffed with vegetables or spaghetti drowsed with  Colatura di Alici,  an amber   liquid made from macerated   anchovies from Cetara.

You’ll also likely see vibrant bunches of  Pomodorino del Piennolo  grape tomatoes hanging at markets; the tomatoes have protected status for strict cultivation in the areas around Mount Vesuvius, but their distinctive flavour is widely revered throughout Campania and best tasted in a hearty soup ( zuppa ), fettuccine with fresh basil or a crisp slice of Pizza Napoletana.

In Ravello, make sure you venture to the former family manor of the Roman noble, the Marquis de Cinque, where the Palumbo family run the four-star  Villa Maria . The restaurant there uses organic ingredients from their herb and vegetable gardens – try their speciality of local fish cooked on lemon leaves and coated in garlic, lemon zest and crisp breadcrumbs.

The zingy lemon has celebrity status on the Amalfi Coast, look for the giant  sfusato  lemons – best sampled as a chilled digestif of limoncello or a refreshing lemon granita on a hot day.

Stunning Beaches

The diverse beaches along the Amalfi Coast vary from busy municipal beaches such as Marina Grande at Amalfi with sun loungers and restaurants to secluded stretches of sand with no facilities or crowds and ideal for swimming, snorkeling, diving or water sports.

Two best tips that Bespoke Yacht Charter can share about beaches on the Amalfi Coast is that many beaches only get the sun in the early to middle part of the day therefore you should time your visit accordingly depending on which beach you choose, and many beaches can only be accessed by boat making the coastline an ideal getaway for a luxury yacht charter.

At Marina di Praia in Praiano, you’ll find a pebble beach bedecked with local fishing boats and a few superb restaurants. Don’t miss wandering along the coastal pathway around the cliff beneath the Saracen watch tower (the Torre a Mare) or returning at night for a cocktail at the Africana nightclub.

Le Praie can only be accessed from the sea and is noted as the most beautiful beach in Praiano with a magnificent setting of rock cliffs crested with maritime pine trees. Exercise caution when standing under the cliffs as there is a danger of falling rocks, but it’s an ideal stop when looking for a lovely place to relax.

Spiaggia La Vite at Conca dei Marini is a pleasant beach to swim with a nice outlook of an ancient watchtower. Nearby you’ll find the Grotta dello Smeraldo, a karst sea cave, discovered in 1932 by a local fisherman and famous for the emerald colour of its interior and an underwater nativity scene.

The fishing town of Cetara is less touristic compared to the busy coastal resorts of Amalfi and Positano – head there for a more tranquil beach escape; Collata beach is reached only by sea.

Aerial view of blue parasols on white sandy Amalfi beach

For quiet beach days, cruise to Cavallo Morto near Maiori, Santa Croce west of Amalfi or the Bay of Ieranto with a tiny beach set in a cove opposite Capri’s Faraglioni rocks.

For something a bit different, head to the fjord of Furore. Stacked fishing townhouses ‘ monazzeni ‘ sit nestled amongst the rock face; you should note that due to the orientation of the beach it doesn’t get full sun until 3pm in the afternoon. The picturesque fjord hosts an annual event where on a Sunday in July, the 30-metre high bridge which spans the cliffs becomes the stage for the  MarMeeting , world high diving championship. Afterwards, drop in for a wine tasting at the  Cantine Marisa Cuomo  above Furore, a small winery set on terraced land overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Spectacular Accommodation Ashore

A luxury yacht charter on the Amalfi Coast offers an unbeatable getaway for privacy and solitude at sea and many charter clients link their time at sea with luxury stays on land at boutique lodgings.

The Amalfi Coast has premium accommodation that alludes to honeymoons, weddings and special occasions in historical buildings and beautiful settings.

Combine your Amalfi Coast yacht charter with a stay at the five-star Grand Hotel Il Saraceno in Amalfi decorated in a Sultanate style with mosaics and antique furniture, enjoy the sumptuous surroundings of the Palazzo Avino or Belmond Hotel Caruso in Ravello, or luxuriate at the central location of Hotel Palazzo Murat in Positano with a charming botanic garden and period furnishings.

The Hotel Santa Caterina, Hotel Luna Convento, Villa Scarpariello Relais and Monastero Santa Rosa are four historical hotels with comfortable Suites and swimming pools with unforgettable coastal views.

Il San Pietro di Positano, a Relais & Châteaux property, is one of the finest five-star hotels in Italy – cut into the cliffside, the hotel’s rooms have private balconies overlooking the sea and are decorated with vibrant tiles, quirky ceramics and plush soft furnishings. You’ll find it hard to tear yourself away back to your yacht once you settle on the ocean view benches for a Aperol spritz or dine in their Michelin-starred restaurant.

During your time ashore, make sure to spend some time wandering the stairways, alleys and streets of the Amalfi Coast towns where boutiques sell handmade leather sandals, linen resort wear, lace, embroidery or bright ceramics in cobalt blue, tomato red or zesty yellow.

Italian Architecture

Italian architecture spans the millenia and the Amalfi Coast has some unique and photogenic architecture originating from Greek, Roman, Norman, Saracen and Arabian influence.

Exploring the region by private yacht highlights the natural beauty of the Amalfi Coast, but you’ll be surprised at the cultural beauty too from medieval churches to town piazzas and converted monasteries.

Ravello, a town that has attracted musicians, filmmakers, writers and painters, is home to classic and contemporary architecture. Stunningly gorgeous, don’t miss Villa Rufolo’s gardens and cloisters and the classical gardens and ‘Terrace of Infinity’ belvedere dotted with marble busts at the Villa Cimbrone. Modern architecture is seen at Oscar Niemeyer’s Auditorium which offers a dedicated venue for concerts and temporary artists.

Praiano has beautiful architectural sights such as the majolica tiled votive shrines seen throughout the town and magnificent churches including the Church of San Luca Evangelista, famous for its historic majolica floor and artworks, the Church of San Gennaro and the Church of Santa Maria a Castro with restored Dominican frescoes.

Minori has architectural treasures of great value such as the Basilica of Santa Trofimena, the bell tower of Annunziata in Arab-Norman style and a first century AD Roman villa.

Visitors sitting under parasols eating and drinking in Amalfi Square , Italy

Other architectural places of interest on the Amalfi Coast are the Duomo in Amalfi, the Solimene ceramic factory in Vietri sul Mare, Hotel Casa Angelina, Zaha Hadid Architect’s modern ferry terminal in Salerno and the town of Atrani with many examples of historic architecture.

Fascinating History

From the art museums of Naples to the impressive ruins at nearby Pompeii and Herculaneum, an Amalfi Coast yacht charter will delve into the passage of time over centuries.

Settled by humans since the early Middle Ages, this stretch of Campanian coastline is UNESCO-listed and an exceptional region of natural and cultural importance.

Religious history influences local customs and festivals today. The convent of Santa Maria a Castro high above Praiano hosts ‘ Luminaria di San Domenico’  which is one of the Amalfi Coast’s most spectacular festivals. Each year in summer during the festival, the Piazza San Gennaro is illuminated nightly by thousands of candles and performances from fire artists. On July 22, the town of Atrani celebrates the Feast of Santa Maria Maddalena where a procession winds through the town followed by fireworks over the sea.

After declaring itself independent of Naples, Amalfi was the first of the Four Maritime Republics of Italy and became the main trading port of southern Italy and a dominant naval power throughout the Mediterranean. Amalfi’s sea trading significance is evident in Arab-Sicilian architecture, as well as the Arsenal of the Maritime Republic (an important maritime museum) and yearly festivals on both June 27 and November 30, which celebrate Sant’Andrea, the town’s patron saint and protector of fishermen.

Beyond The Amalfi Coast

If the gorgeous vistas of the Amalfi Coast leave you with a sense of wanderlust, we have other great Southern Italian yacht charter destinations that will awaken your lust for Italian landscapes and lifestyle.

Naples, the largest regional city in Campania is bracing and gritty but worth a visit for the collections at the Naples National Archaeological Museum and the Museo di Capodimonte. If visiting Naples, ensure you take a shore excursion to nearby Ercolano or Caserta. At Ercolano, you can visit Mount Vesuvius, view the Herculaneum ruins or travel to nearby Pompeii for its famous excavations. At Caserta, you will find the off-the-beaten path Royal Palace of Caserta, known as the ‘Versailles of Naples’ it was built for the Bourbon King of Naples and one of the largest palaces built in the 18th century in Europe.

Best enjoyed out of peak season, cruise to the islands of Capri, Ischia or Procida for beach resorts, thermal springs, hiking and sunbathing. On the other side of the Sorrentine peninsula from the Amalfi Coast towns, charming Sorrento is a popular gateway town to the Amalfi Coast and within easy reach to one of Bespoke Yacht Charter’s recommended restaurants, Don Alfonso 1890.

Fraglioni in Capri

Heading south-east from the Amalfi resorts, anchor in the Gulf of Salerno and head ashore to explore the ruins at the UNESCO-protected temples at Paestum. The Doric order temples dedicated to Hera and Athena are among the best preserved Greek ruins left on mainland Italy and one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world.

Late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October) is the optimal time to explore the wealth of the Amalfi region at your own pace, as the weather is pleasantly warm and the crowds are thinner. Summer, as expected, is the busiest time of the year, as the peak months of July and August offer more than scorching summer days. The Tyrrhenian Sea glitters with superyachts during the summertime as cruising conditions are also at their peak, with the region fully engaged in tourism at this time of year. If you prefer a quieter yacht charter without the crowds, consider visiting Amalfi during the shoulder seasons.

Whether you prefer to be in control of your Amalfi Coast yacht rental or have a professional at the helm, both options are available. A bareboat charter is a great way to explore the region independently, but you will need a valid boating licence for these rentals.

Alternatively, choosing to sail with a skipper is a luxurious way to experience the Amalfi Coast. Sit back and enjoy your yacht rental while your skipper takes care of all the technicalities and guides you to the best destinations. What can I do on the Amalfi Coast?

When it comes to an Italy yacht charter, the Amalfi Coast is a destination that offers endless possibilities. With every corner of the coastline deserving a visit, the towns of Vietri sul Mare, Maiori, Minori, Amalfi, and Positano are just a few of the many hidden gems waiting to be discovered. A visit to the magical Sorrento or the island of Capri is also a must.

Whether you choose to rent a yacht from Sorrento and sail to Capri, stopping at Positano, or start your yacht charter in Naples and visit Pompei, the choice is yours. The best part of Amalfi Coast sailing charters is the flexibility to explore beautiful beaches and islands at your leisure.

Begin your yacht charter in Amalfi Coast at the Marina of Salerno, a picturesque fishing village with stunning coastal cliff landscapes. From there, head to Procida, a small island known for its lemon groves and tranquil beaches. In the Bay of Naples, visit Ischia, the largest island, and try delicious seafood restaurants while exploring rocky outcrops on foot.

Once on the mainland, indulge in the local products, such as anchovies, fish preserves, and fresh, succulent lemons. Take away some zesty limoncello and watch the sunset from your yacht with your loved ones. Campania is also known for its rich and varied gastronomy, with mozzarella pizza being a unique and delicious specialty.

Consider renting a yacht in Naples and having it as your base port if you plan to spend a lot of time sailing across the Napolitan Gulf. An Amalfi boat day exploring what you want can be as organised or spontaneous as you wish. Don't miss out on the opportunity to experience the unique emotion of sailing yachts in the Amalfi Coast.

How is the weather on the Amalfi Coast?

If you're planning a yacht charter in Amalfi Italy, it's important to pack accordingly. Be sure to bring your swimwear, sunscreen, and comfortable clothes as the sun will be shining for most of the year. During the summer months, the weather is warmer and the sun is stronger, making it the perfect time to bask in the sun and enjoy the beautiful Amalfi coast. However, it's worth noting that there will be more tourists both on land and at sea during this time.

For a more peaceful and relaxed experience, it's best to consider renting a yacht during the months of September and October. During this time, the crowds start to thin out, and the weather is still warm and pleasant enough to enjoy all that the Amalfi coast has to offer. Spring is also a great time to rent a yacht, especially if you're looking to experience the vibrant colours of the coast in bloom.

While autumn and winter may offer dreamy atmospheres, it's important to note that facilities and services may be scarce during these months. Despite this, if you're willing to brave the cooler temperatures, you'll be rewarded with stunning views of the coast and a unique and tranquil experience that few tourists get to enjoy.

No matter what time of year you choose for your yacht charter on the Amalfi coast, you'll be treated to breathtaking views, delicious cuisine, and unforgettable experiences that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Yacht Charter Day 1: Naples and Procida

The journey on the Amalfi coast starts from the Naples International Airport ( Naples Capodichino Airport ). Naples, the largest city in Southern Italy , is the first luxury charter yacht exploration port on the Amalfi coast. You can explore the UNESCO World Heritage sites -the Church of Santa Chiara and the Castel Nuovo – and enjoy the local cuisine.

Even though Procida is the smallest island among the three islands of the Gulf of Naples, it has great things to offer for luxury yacht charterers- a colorful Mediterranean landscape to gaze at, the sail around the coastline with ancient Terra Murata , and the Marina Grande waterfront .

Important Information

For those on a yacht charter equipped with scuba gear , The Sunken City of Baiae offers a unique and mesmerizing underwater exploration experience. Baiae dates back to the Roman Empire and was once a luxurious resort town renowned for its fancy villas, thermal baths, and grand architecture . Over time, due to volcanic activity, a significant portion of the city sank beneath the sea, now providing this fantastic and unique underwater archaeological site .

  • Neapolitan pizza- This is where the world’s favorite snack food was invented, made from plain flour and topped with whatever was easily available in the territory – some fresh tomatoes, goat’s cheese, and herbs. They still make it as they used to centuries ago , and it’s just as delectable!
  • Terra Murata-  a fortified medieval village, is accessible only through a steep climb from which you can admire a breathtaking view over the entire Gulf of Naples . What makes this place special are not only the medieval fortifications and the scenic views, but also the two long-range cannons dating back to the Neapolitan Republic of 1799 .

Distance: 14 NM

The town of Procida is packed with colourful houses that reaches all the way to the very edge of the sea.

YACHT CHARTER DAY 2: ISCHIA

Set sail to the largest island of Naples Bay – the volcanic island of Ischia, only a short distance from Procida. Ischia is known for its therapeutic thermal water springs , rated as one of the world’s best natural spas . Discover the luscious greenery, fjords, and coves while roaming the sea around the island. Ischia is also well known for its vineyards producing world-famous wines, and has served as the setting for numerous movies such as “ Cleopatra ” .

Anchor near Castello Aragonese , a castle connected to Ischia with a stone bridge built in 1441 .

  • You can witness the rare green ray during sunset from the Church of Soccorso – an experience you will miss without the freedom of a private yacht .
  • Scuba diving and bathing are non-permissible for non-residents in the marine protected areas of Ischia.
  • Fishing is only permitted with one pole and line.
  • The hot springs – one of the world’s best natural spas.
  • The Museo Luchino Visconti , the former residence of the influential movie director is now a museum and cultural center featuring exhibitions, music performances, workshops, and films.
  • Designer boutiques and shops selling handicrafts mainly from the island’s traditional terracotta.

Distance: 9 NM

large yacht charter amalfi coast

Yacht Charter Day 3: Capri

Anchor at Capri’s southern Marina Piccola, right behind the Faraglioni, and discover the lemon trees on the mountainside from your yacht. With a private yacht charter, you can find a secluded cove, have a swim, or roam the town for luxury vistas and cafes.

Capri  is an island located off the tip of the Sorrentine Peninsula. It is one of the top destinations for yacht charters in this area and should not be missed.  The Blue Grotto  (Grotta Azzurra) is one of Capri’s most iconic natural attractions. This sea cave is renowned for its mesmerizing blue color, created by the sunlight filtering through an underwater cavity. Another huge attraction is the iconic sea stacks, known as the  Faraglioni rocks , rising dramatically from the sea. Boat tours often take you through the arch of the Faraglioni for a memorable experience.

Capri town itself offers  high-end shopping ,  fine dining , and a lively atmosphere. Explore the ruins of  Villa Jovis , an ancient Roman villa, perched on the eastern cliffs of Capri. Built by Emperor Tiberius, it offers stunning views of the  Gulf of Naples .

All boat tours to Blue Grotto are led by an expert local skipper  who knows the coastline intimately and can share insider  history and anecdotes about Capri for an unforgettable trip!

Check the website ( https://www.capri.com/en/c/motoscafisti-di-capri ) for real-time data before chartering to the cove.

  • The Blue Grotto : Sunlight passing through an underwater cavity and shining through the seawater creates a blue reflection that illuminates the cavern. It is only possible to enter the cave swimming or using the luxury yacht’s small tender and discover dazzling silver, emerald, and blue light effects created by the water and the sunlight passing through it.
  • The Faraglioni (known as Milsetone Rocks), off the coast of Capri, are imposing rocks rising from the sea at heights of over 100 meters, reachable only by sea and home to the island’s rare blue lizard , which can be seen basking in the sunlight.

Distance: 17 NM

large yacht charter amalfi coast

Yacht Charter Day 4: Sorrento

Indulge yourself in the La Dolce Vita feel while sailing back to the mainland to Sorrento , an impossibly picturesque little town, the mythological site of the Odyssey’s Sirens .

Cruise to Marina del Cantone , a small hidden gem at the old fishing village of Nerano , with a beautiful pebbled beach and many beach bars as well as a few Michelin-starred restaurants .

Consult your yacht charter for a private tour of Mount Vesuvius and the Roman ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum .

Marina del Cantone’s pebbled beach is hard to reach by bus and ferry. The result of this is that it’s less crowded than nearby beaches, and thus more exclusive. Enjoy this secludedness on your private yacht charter.

  • The chance to spot loggerhead sea turtles and dolphins cruising the Gulf of Sorrento
  • A visit to the famous, fragrant lemon tree groves, out of which the Limoncello liqueur is produced – this is where it originated .
  • Sorrento Cathedral – a medieval gem known for its intricate architecture and artistic significance.
  • The Basilica di Sant’Antonino , dedicated to the town’s patron saint, provides further insight into Sorrento’s religious and historical roots.

Distance: 8 NM

large yacht charter amalfi coast

Yacht Charter Day 5: Positano

Located on the other side of the peninsula, Positano offers some of the best views from a yacht on your Amalfi coast yacht charter. Here you will see ancient Roman villas, with a stunning mountainous backdrop, and its luscious vegetation.

You can customize your yacht charter itinerary and anchor near Grotta dello Smeraldo . Also known as Emerald Grotto , this magical cave offers quite a beautiful sight when the sunlight filters through the turquoise water into the grotto through underwater openings. It is home to an underwater nativity scene made up of ceramic statues, and every year at Christmas divers place flowers at the tableau.

Sunbathe and relax at Fornillo Beach (its name derives from the fact that ancient Romans baked bread in stone ovens there) – rather than the crowded main beach Spiaggia Grande- for a calm and serene experience. From there, you can avoid the stairs and reach the mountaintop with cable cars for a breathtaking aerial view of Positano .

  • As in most Southern Italy, the area is famous for its “ cucina povera ” (poor man’s kitchen), delicious cooking using only locally sourced and in-season ingredients. Some examples are spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams), scialatielli alle cozz e (fresh pasta with mussels), best to be sampled accompanied by wine from the local world-class vineyards.
  • The “Walk of Gods” (also called Sentiero degli Dei). This is the most popular hike to do along the Amalfi Coast and it is famous for its jaw-dropping views over Positano and the Sorrento peninsula .

Distance: 15 NM

large yacht charter amalfi coast

Yacht Charter Day 6: Amalfi

Located on the  central Amalfi Coast , Amalfi Town is a must-visit on an Amalfi Coast Yacht Charter. The town borders the  Gulf of Salerno  and is characterized by  steep cliffs  along its rugged coastline. The town is known for its dramatic coastal setting, with  colorful buildings  climbing up the steep slopes and overlooking the  Tyrrhenian Sea .

Amalfi is renowned for its historical and cultural sites, notably the 9th-century  Cathedral of St. Andrew . Beyond coastal charm, the region offers inland adventures with several popular trekking routes.  The Path of Gods trail  from  Agerola  to  Positano  is a highlight, along with hikes to  Valle delle Ferriere’s waterfalls , and  Monte Faito  where you will get the most amazing panoramic views of the  Gulf of Naples  and the  Sorrento Peninsula .

From here you can also visit Ravello, a beautiful town perched high above the Tyrrhenian Sea. Ravello is surrounded by lush gardens, terraced vineyards , and  lemon groves , and offers stunning panoramic views of the coastline.

One of Ravello’s most iconic landmarks is  Villa Rufolo , a historic villa known for its beautiful gardens. The villa dates back to the  13th century  and has been a source of inspiration for many artists and writers. The annual  Ravello Festival , featuring classical music concerts, takes place in the gardens of Villa Rufolo.

Amalfi has a port called Porto di Amalfi , where yachts of various sizes can moor. Dock your charter yacht at Amalfi and enjoy a land excursion to Ravello .

  • Amalfi is renowned for its historical and cultural sites, notably the 9th-century  Cathedral of St. Andrew .
  • Fiordo di Furore, the Fjord of Fury , is one of the coast’s most unique geological features. Visitors can access the beach via a bridge and descend stairs along the gorge’s cliffs . The beach offers several trails, including one that leads to an old fishing village and another that provides stunning ocean views.
  • The Path of Gods trail  from  Agerola  to  Positano  is a highlight, along with hikes to  Valle delle Ferriere’s waterfalls , and  Monte Faito  where you will get the most amazing panoramic views of the  Gulf of Naples  and the  Sorrento Peninsula .

Distance: 5 NM

Yacht Charter Day 7: Salerno

Salerno is the center point of a triangle nicknamed Tourist Triangle of the 3 P’s (namely a triangle with the corners being Pompei, Positano, and Paestum ). The latter is a popular seaside resort with long sandy beaches, as well as famous Greek ruins including three of the best preserved ancient temples .

In the heart of Salerno Old Town , well worth a visit is Minerva’s Garden , with many rare plants and flowers of therapeutic (used as medicine in the Middle Ages) as well as ornamental value, such as the luscious rose beds.

  • If you are a golfing enthusiast, the place to be is the Golf Club Salerno. The club terrain is flat , so it is perfect for amateur golfers as well.
  • The many workshops and retail stores manufacture and sell the famous Majolica pottery , one of the finest species of ceramics in the world . Not cheap, but very rare and beautiful. A couple of majolica espresso cups will attract envy back home.
  • Salerno’s cathedral , the Duomo di Salerno , was consecrated in 1085 and is considered a wonder of medieval architecture. According to legend, it houses the remains of Apostle Matthew .

Yacht Charter Day 8: Cruising Back to Naples

Cruising back to Naples port for the nearby Naples International airport is the longest sailing of this yacht charter. Cruising through the Mediterranean waters, you can enjoy the beautiful coastline, greenery, picturesque little villages perched on the rocky coast, and the calmness of the sea for one last time.

The Gulf of Naples on the way back to the city’s busy port offers amazing scenery as well as the opportunity to re-visit some of the best places you have seen, perhaps accompanied by dolphins frolicking along the yacht’s bow.

Enjoy the crewed yacht’s luxury amenities and local cuisine prepared and served on board , al fresco, before making the final port.

Drop anchor and indulge in water activities such as swimming, jet skiing or snorkeling if you don’t have to rush to catch a flight- or you can sunbathe on the yacht’s deck while enjoying the picture-perfect scenery.

You should ask for the yacht charter service for a short transfer to the airport by car. Also, Covid-19 regulations have been revoked so you don’t need to do an RTPCR or antigen test 72 hours before leaving the country.

  • The opportunity to soak in an open-air jacuzzi, some fine dining, and cocktails in the sun deck, while watching the world go by!
  • Water toys, a sumptuous lunch, and sunbathing.
