Rogers City MI was established in 1872. Unlike many other communities whose economy was based on lumbering, Rogers City made its mark as home to the largest limestone quarry in the world. Its port is one of the largest shipping ports on the Great Lakes. It is intically connected to the steel industry to the south as limestone is a key constituent ingredient. The city cherishes its marine heritage and has an excellent, well-protected harbor. | |
The approaches to Rogers City MI are clear from all directions. Keep offshore about 1-2 nm until you are in the vicinity of Rogers City. There is a light tower on the end of the north seawall at the entrance to the harbor with a Fl RED light. It will be visible approximately 6.7 mi/5.9 nm in good weather. On the south seawall, there is a Fl GREEN light, also visible about 6.7 mi/5.9 nm offshore. Following them in, you will pick up the lighted channel buoys that will lead you right in to Rogers City Marina. The channel is oriented on a NE - SW line. A course of 204 T will bring you right down the channel.
Once inside the outer harbor, turn to port and follow the seawall for about 100 yds/60 m until you see the entrance to the inner harbor on your starboard. | |
This is an excellent harbor with 126 slips. There are 34 set aside for transients. Additional space is available on the wall. There is a fuel dock (diesel and gasoline) and a pumpout station. Water and power are available dockside. The marina building has restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. There is a community information board where you can find directions and information on local marine repair facilities. The marina is within 2-3 blocks of the downtown and for re-provisioning runs, a courtesy car is available. The marina also has courtesy bicycles available for those who would like to explore a bit further afield. Internet service is not available at the marina but you can get on-line at the public library, about 4 blocks from the marina. | |

Although not restaurants, you shouldn't visit Rogers City without stepping into . It set a Guiness record for the longest sausage (8,773 ft/2,674 m)! Over 4 generations, it has built an outstanding reputation for the variety and quality of their sausages. is another local favorite that successfully markets its smoked pork across the entire United States. | |
Rogers City is blessed with a beautiful natural environment. is immediately south of the marina. There are beaches, hiking and walking trails, picnic and BBQ areas. Another nearby park is , accesible by bike trails.
is a new maritime museum that illustrates Rogers City's strong connection to the maritime world of a Great Lakes shipping port. In July/August, there is the , a large, week-long community celebration and party. The brings in fishermen from all over.
is located at the Port of Calcite, the major industrial port of Rogers City MI, just south of the community. Here, visitors can watch ships from all over the lakes taking on tens of thousands of tons of limestone needed to feed our hungry steel mills.
