First slide

"The boat charter with E.G.G.Yachting in Göcek was an extraordinary experience. Base manager Ibrahim and his team carried out the check in and check out very calmly and personably. The boat was very clean and in very good technical condition. We loved our yacht Palomem, a Bavaria 46 cruiser. Göcek Marina is an ideal starting point for a trip in the Golf of Fethye. We can highly recomment Ibrahim and his team from E.G.G. Yachting, thank you very much for everything."

"First time trying EGG yachting in Gocek. We met with Ibrahim some time ago in a boat exhibition and he’s friendly honest approach made us give EGG yachting a go. Althouth there was a slight confusion with our rental dates we came to a mutual agreement and Surprisingly this was one of a kind and the service provided by both Mr Ibrahim and his team was exceptional. We were provided with a great sailboat. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested in renting a sailboat to go through EGG yatching. Turkeys sail holiday is one of a kind. Not known by most European skippers. If you’re up for an unforgettable sail experience try Gocek out and make sure you speak to Ibrahim as EGG yachting is extreamly luck to have such a team member. Go sail turkey - go E.G.G Yachting…."

logo

"Ibrahim and Volkan provided a very professional and competent service along with a great seaworthy boat. Excellent briefing and advice gave us confidence to sail along what I consider to be the best coastline in all the Mediterranean of which I have had the privilege of circumnavigated. Highly recommend this company."

logo

"Our charter yacht was uptodate, clean, and well equipped. Ibrahim and his team provided excellent service and were available by whatsapp throughout the course of our charter to advise on locations and provide mooring & restaurant recommendations. Nothing was too much trouble. Our BA flight was cancelled on the day of departure and E.G.G. were able to accommodate a lengthened overnight checkout and rearrangement of our transfers. E.G.G's location in Gocek marina is very convenient with only a short transfer ("

logo

"We chartered a yacht for 2 weeks. The yacht was very well prepared. The E.G.G crew was very helpful and friendly. Basic things like the engine, sails, etc. were perfect. Additionally, the yacht had an exceptionally well-equipped kitchen with an additional refrigerator. There were steel life lines installed on the yacht, there were a lot of small ropes which are usually very necessary. There were a lot of extra things that were usually extremely helpful. E.G.G. organized a transfer from Antala at a very good price. I highly recommend them and hope to see next year."

bareboat yacht charter gocek

Gocek bareboat route to Kalkan & Kas – 1 week

Kalkan, kas & kekova roads with a gocek bareboat charter.

This Gocek bareboat route takes you south east to the historic town of Kalkan , the sleepy port at Kas and the volcanic landscapes of Kekova Roads. A Gocek yacht charter offers a wealth of options but this route is challenging in both conditions and length, taking you past the notorious Seven Capes. But with no Kalkan bareboats, a Gocek charter is a great departure point to see the east Lycian Coast.

This suggest route covers stops from “one restaurant” bays to small towns so there’s plenty of variety. If you fancy an international yacht charter, you could substitute the Greek island Kastellorizo for Kalkan or Kas but check with your charter company at check in for the  latest situation regarding formalities.

View the route on a map See About the maps for Key and more information. You can see photos of the area in the Lycian coast (East): Gallery.

DayMilesDestination
1: Sat0Check in. Once a small village of no importance, Gocek is now a major hub for sailors thanks to it’s proximity to Dalaman airport, 25 minutes drive away. It’s still small, but has a good selection of mini markets around the square and along the main street. Restaurants and bars fill the tree lined esplanade, but you can ...
2: Sun18 Tucked behind some rocks on the west side of Bay, this is a great spot for some snorkelling and swimming and the family run restaurant is a friendly place. There’s often a better choice of fish here than many other places nearby and unlike many of the Gocek Bay restaurants they have showers!
3: Mon40 Built on the site of the Lycian town of Antiphellos, the amphitheatre from that time remains well preserved. Kas however has moved on and has become something of an activity centre, with scuba diving, paragliding, sea kayaking, white water rafting, jeep safari’s and mountain biking all on offer. For the more sedate, the winding cobbled streets ...
4: Tue19 Dominated by it’s castle overlooking the bay, is a small village with no road connection. The several restaurants each have their own quay and all have electricity and showers. It’s a great walk up to the castle through the rustic village, with several mini markets on the way if you need to provision. There is ...
5: Wed28 The port is relatively young, dating from the 19th century. The small town is now a tourist haven though not greatly commercialised and very quiet during the day when most visitors head out to the beaches. Just east of the harbour is a pebbled beach but a 10 minute taxi ride takes you to sandy Kaputas ...
6: Thu31 The bay is named after the fresh water springs that make for a cooling swim. There’s a single restaurant offering some provisions set on the hill overlooking the bay. Highly recommended is a walk to the abandoned Greek village of Kayakoy, last inhabited in the 1920’s but still remarkably intact. The family run restaurant offers similar fare ...
7: Fri19Return to Gocek and check out
8: Sat0Disembark
Average26Note: you will do more miles than this!

Sailing Conditions

A Kalkan bareboat holiday can present some bouncy sailing. Winds are typically force 3-5 but can be stronger passing the confused waters off the Seven Capes. I strongly recommend an early start from Karacaoren (06.00-07.00) for the run down to Kas and I wouldn’t leave it too late going the other way either. The prevailing winds are from the north west or west.

It’s usually fairly windless first thing. During the morning the strength increases reaching a peak after lunch. There’s little variation until early evening when the wind dies to next to nothing, often quite suddenly. Keep well offshore when passing the Capes to minimise swell.

Gocek Bareboat Charter Choices

Gocek charter yachts range from 30 to 57 feet. There are a number of marinas but all are within walking distance of the village with the exception of Club Marina which is linked by a water taxi (though it doesn’t run very late in to the evening)

All the Gocek bareboat operators offer skippered charter.

Gocek bareboats are popular because of the close proximity to Dalaman Airport but if you can’t find the yachts you’re looking for, it’s not much further to Fethiye which gives you access to the same waters.

Guide to Gocek Bay

All the charm of a sleepy fishing village with the glamorous allure of a yachting destination

With its mountainous setting and elegant atmosphere, Gocek is understandably a favourite of the discerning traveller. Set between Fethiye and Dalyan in the Fethiye District, this Turkish town is set apart on the Lycian coast by its location within a beautiful private bay which is dotted with coves, working their way up into winding hills and white washed villages.

Restrictions on the height of buildings make the view from any yacht floating off the shores spectacular, and the blanket of trees covering the hills that have given the area National Park status give this place a unique atmosphere. It has all the charm of a sleepy Mediterranean fishing village but the poets and artists that have fallen in love with it over many years have ensured its glamorous allure to the rich and famous.

Gocek itself lacks its own sandy beach, meaning it hasn’t become a tourist trap during the summer months and instead remains one of the premiere yachting destinations in the East Mediterranean . It has a strong maritime history, an annual regatta and a selection of modern marinas to choose from, including Club Marina, Marinturk Gocek Village, Port Municipality Marinas, D-Marin Gocek, Marinturk Gocek Exclusive, and Skopea Marina.

When chartering in and around Gocek, a visit to the nearby town of Fethiye is also a must-see. Here you can spend a morning drinking real Turkish coffee in one of the traditional cafes, find fresh fish for dinner at the renowned fish market and enjoy an afternoon pottering around the old town. If you like hiking then there are plenty of trails to find here, though they are better enjoyed outside of the highs of peak summer temperatures.

Encompassing the bay are the Twelve Islands that create a natural wind protected harbour around the coast. These include Dockyard Island, Red Island, Flat Island, Gocek Island, Rabbit Island, Tersane Island, Paradise Bay, Aquarium bay and Cleopatra's Bath, all famous for their scenic beauty. Scattered like jewels in the sea, these emerald isles are covered in forests and the scent of pine trees – perfect for discovering caves, relaxing on hidden beaches and snorkelling in the warm waters. With this kind of variation on offer, the town is a popular start to any yacht charter with a few days to spend exploring these waters before moving on to the next stop.

Sailing Qualifications

To skipper a bareboat charter or flotilla yacht, you need to hold a practical sailing certificate equivalent to RYA Day Skipper Practical qualification or RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC) . For charters in Greece, you must now have the ICC certificate . You must also be assisted by at least one competent crew member over the age of 18.

The port authorities in Greece are now insisting on one of the following practical certificates: RYA ICC (International Certificate of Competence), RYA Coastal, RYA Yachtmaster, ASA IPC (International Proficiency Certificate) or the IYT (International Yacht Training) Passport. If you hold an RYA Day Skipper or ASA104 it will no longer be accepted and you need to obtain either an ICC or IPC from the corresponding issuing body (RYA or ASA). If your RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster or ASA105/106 certificate is more than 12 years old and does not have a photo ID, then we would also strongly advise applying for an ICC or IPC. If you are a member of the RYA or ASA, you may qualify for a discount or free certificate, otherwise, you will have to pay. The approximate cost is £50. Please use this link - RYA application for the ICC or ASA application for the IPC.

For charters in Croatia, Malta and the Canaries , at least one member of the crew or the skipper will also need a VHF licence .

RYA qualifications can be obtained by RYA sailing schools in the UK or alternatively choose from one of our overseas centres in Gibraltar, Greece or Turkey .

For  Seychelles,  the local authorities require an ICC for the skipper of a bareboat or flotilla yacht charter.

For Caribbean and Tropical charters, formal qualifications are not compulsory, however, you should be Day Skipper standard and be assisted by at least one competent crew . A brief sailing resume should be provided to outline your experience.

For Thailand A Day Skipper qualification is required as a minimum and you must have at least 3 weeks of skippering experience prior to your charter. A VHF qualification is compulsory.

If you don't hold the relevant qualifications then why not add a skipper ?

Sailing Levels

Winds force 2-3 (4-11 Knots)combined with generally shorter distances. Good for beginner or intermediate sailors. Line-of-sight navigation but basic knowledge of charts and ability to plot your position required.

Winds force 3-5 (7-21 Knots) with approximately 15-20nm per day. Intermediate experience required. Predominately line of sight navigation but an understanding of how to sail in open water.

Winds force 4-6 (11-27 Knots) with mileage of approximately 20nm+ per day. Ideal for experienced skippers looking to venture out to new destinations. Day skipper standard but with experienced crew would be recommended.

Yacht charter from fethiye & gocek.

If you are looking for a charter yacht in Turkey to enjoy a relaxing sailing holiday then look no further than the Gulf of Fethiye. Start your charter from Fethiye or Gocek, both easily reached from Dalaman airport, to have access to this tranquil sailing area with its calm winds, protected anchorages and short passages between islands and bays. Fethiye is a friendly harbour town with waterfront boulevard and pedestrianised town centre lined with tavernas and shops selling everything from carpets to spices. Göcek is a yachting centre but has lost none of its authentic Turkish charm.

To charter a yacht in Turkey is to appreciate the slower pace of life still lived by many in this part of the world and allows you to combine stunning anchorages, natural springs and mud baths with visits to ancient tombs and Lycian ruins. Names such as Four Fathom Bay, Ruin Bay, Wall Bay and Tomb Bay might sound like those found in a bestselling novel but in actual fact these names hint to the area's centuries old history which remains evident today.

The Gulf of Fethiye is a yachtsman’s paradise with so many sheltered anchorages, coves and islands with crystal clear water, ideal for swimming and snorkelling and perhaps even catching a sight of turtles and dolphins! During your yacht charter in Turkey most evenings will be spent in a protected anchorage with just one or two restaurants ashore, giving you the chance to sample the delicious cuisine and warm hospitality of the locals before settling down to a peaceful night on anchor.

A bareboat sailing holiday in Turkey is great choice for those who already have a sailing license and are looking to plan their own itinerary to best suit their crew. For a sociable holiday with the assistance of a professional lead crew with fantastic knowledge of the local area, why not have a look at the Fethiye Flotilla . For a memorable holiday for a large group, perhaps a traditional gulet in Turkey could be the ideal option. These iconic boats can take up to 20 guests and provide a professional crew and meals onboard.

Bareboat Yacht Charter

Bareboating or flotilla sailing.

Bareboat yachting means that you charter a yacht independently. We hand over the yacht ready for use and you return the yacht to us at the end of your charter. As skipper you are fully responsible for the yacht and its crew. Of course you can always contact the base in Gocek by VHF or mobile phone in case of unexpected problems. With bareboating you have the freedom to make your own cruising plan and go at your own pace. Of course we can give you all kinds of tips before leaving. Every yacht has charts and a pilot book with detailed descriptions of the sailing area.

Sailing experience

The main condition of bareboat chartering is that you must have experience handling a yacht of the size you want to charter. Although we navigate mostly by the eye in this area, you should still have some experience with coastal navigation and the use of sea charts. Also you should be familiar with berthing and anchoring. If you feel insecure about your competence it is possible to join the flotilla for the first week. We could also sail with you for a day to provide you with sufficient information about the vessel and the area. The Gocek region offers a large choice of one-day itineraries for the beginner!

Catamaran Charter: With their wide interior and exterior spaces, high stability and fast cruising capability, catamarans can offer an excellent experience in Göcek bays. They also usually attract attention with their modern and luxurious designs.

Boat Charter Captained or Bareboat in Göcek

There are boat charter options in Göcek, both with and without a captain. Which option you choose will depend on your experience and sailing knowledge.

The captainless boat charter option is suitable for those who have sailed before and know how to sail. In this option, you can travel on your own after chartering the boat. However, if you don't have a captain's license or you have limited experience, it may be safer to choose a skippered boat charter.

The captain boat charter option is an option where an experienced captain guides you and takes over the management of the boat. The captains are usually locals, have knowledge of the area and can advise you on itineraries. This option is suitable for less experienced travelers or those who just want to relax.

The option to charter a boat with a captain may be a little more expensive, but it can be preferred due to the experience of the captain, his knowledge of the area and his safety. The option of chartering a boat without a captain may be a more free option, but in this case, all responsibility will be on you.

Gocek Charter Season

Since Göcek is located in the southwest of Turkey, it usually experiences heavy tourism traffic during the summer months. However, in Göcek, boats are offered for rent throughout the year and have features suitable for holidaying in all seasons.

Summer months (June-August) are the hottest and most crowded seasons in Göcek. The sea temperature is between 24-27°C on average and the air temperature is usually above 30°C. During this season, beaches and sea activities are more popular and boats are in high demand.

Spring (April-May) and autumn (September-October) months are quieter and more suitable for chartering boats in Göcek. The sea temperature is between 20-22°C in spring and 22-24°C in autumn. Traveling on boats is more enjoyable as the air temperatures are milder and less humid. Beaches and sea activities can still be enjoyed during these seasons.

Winter months (November-March) are quieter in Göcek. The sea temperature is between 17-19°C on average and the air temperature is around 15°C. During this season, boats are less in demand and prices may be more affordable. However, traveling at sea can be more challenging as sea and weather conditions can be colder and windier.

Yacht & Catamaran Charter in Göcek, Turkey

We can help you find the perfect yacht or catamaran to sail from Göcek!

Gocek yacht and catamaran charter

Sailing from Gocek

Nestled in the heart of Gocek Bay, the bohemian town of Gocek is a fantastic place to start a sailing holiday – it has perfect sailing weather (sunshine, dependable winds), plenty of pristine coastline (and turquoise seas), and a plethora of exciting places to sail to and explore. The whole surrounding Gocek Bay area is a collection of islands and secluded bays, each seemingly with their own cute top-notch restaurant and jetty.

You could get away with just sailing in the sheltered Gocek Bay area, but if you want to get some stronger wind in your sails and nautical miles on your logbook then you can head north to Ekincik to see Turtle beach, the Dalyan mud-baths, or the Ancient city of Kaunos, or south past historic Fethiye and the famous Blue Lagoon to visit the epic sunken city of Kekova. We can help you find and book your ideal yacht or catamaran, with one of our trusted Charter Partners - just get in touch or search in the pink box with live prices and availability !

Must See if you're Sailing from Gocek

SAILING RATING:  Beginner / Intermediate - You can find sailing to suit all levels of sailing in Turkey, with a mixture of quiet bay areas and more exposed coastline. You’ll find even remote bays have places to moor up – like a restaurant-jetty or a mooring buoy, but it's useful to be comfortable using the anchor. Peak season is July to September, but sailing is pleasant here from March to October, and increasingly, November.

MUST-SEE:  Check out our full suggested itinerary below, but from Gocek we’d highly recommend taking in the ancient city of Kaunos , the famous Blue Lagoon , and the beautiful and remote Kapi Creek .

WHAT WE CAN OFFER:  We have a great range of yachts and catamarans available for charter from our trusted Charter Partners, all available bareboat or Skippered. We can also arrange a Hostess, Personal Chef and other crew.

GETTING THERE:  The Marina is just a 25 minute drive from Dalaman airport, just over 2 hours drive from Bodrum airport, or just over 3 hours drive from Antalya airport. We can organise transfers for you - a 3-person taxi is c. €50 from Dalaman to Gocek. You could also land at nearby Rhodes or Kos in Greece and get a ferry across.

WHY BOOK WITH US?  We only work with the very best professional charter operators , who we have met, know, and trust to give you the same outstanding customer service as you'll get from PlainSailing.com.

WHAT NEXT?  Use the pink box to search for yachts or catamarans with LIVE pricing & availability - if you have any other questions or requests, get in touch via Live Chat, the Contact Form , or by phone.

Why book with PlainSailing.com?

Suggested sailing itinerary, wind & weather conditions, marina details, more: sample prices   -   göcek sailing itinerary  -   wind & weather  -   marina details, sample prices in, 6-day sailing itinerary from göcek.

Gocek is a fantastic place to sail and offers a different sailing experience to Greece and Croatia – there aren’t many massive marinas, so you’ll find yourself in remote anchorages or on a restaurant jetty in a secluded bay each night. Often there is no charge for the mooring fees as long as you eat in the restaurant in the evening, and some places will even throw in breakfast for free!

Gocek - 6 day Sailing itinerary

It’s six days (not seven) because you normally only get on board at 4pm on Saturday, and are required to be back at the marina on Friday evening (before checking-out on Saturday morning – which, assuming that you buy food and pack provisions on the first Saturday, and set off on your voyage first thing on Sunday morning, means six days of wonderful sailing.

Gobun

We’re darting around the Gocek Bay area – what a delightful place to sail – you’ll likely be tacking and beating up the prevailing summer winds as we make our way to the best place in the area: Gobun bay, which is better known to the locals as Kapi Creek. If you arrive in the afternoon, you’ll find olive groves to meander around, you could be tempted in to take a dip or, if you’re keen to explore, you can summit the nearby hillside (it takes about an hour) to get stunning views across the bay area.

After the sun sets, the local restaurant (which you can only reach by boat) will sort you out with a fine meal, and you’ll be able to find fellow-sailors to compare plans or swap your best sailing adventures with. Or just sit and get to know your crew. This is the life!

Ekincik

Ekincik itself is a pretty ex-fishing village with a brilliant beach, and it’s another tranquil and beautiful place to spend the night, but the main reason we’re here is so that you can get yourself set up for tomorrow – there are full and half-day boat trips which leave from Ekincik and head to take in the remarkable (and highly recommended) ruins of ancient Kaunos, the thermal mud baths at Dalyan (which they say take ten years off the age you look), or the natural wilderness of Iztuzu Beach – better known as Turtle beach, and the home of over 300 nesting couples of sea-turtles during breeding season.

Speak to one of the locals about arranging a tour and you can set off on one of their traditional riverboats tomorrow morning (you’re not allowed to sail to Dalyan in your own boat as you need a special permit).

Ekincik

Asi Koyu is a bit of a hidden gem – though you suspect that it’s one of the most beautiful and unspoilt beaches or bays in Turkey precisely because it is so far off the beaten track for land-lubbing tourists (there’s no main roads that head here, so getting here without your own boat is not easy).

There’s a beach bar, but it’s a romantic place to just sit on deck and relax under the stars. If you haven’t yet sampled Turkish wine yet, then here is as good a place as any to give it a try: wine was invented in Turkey, and they’ve been making it for over 6,000 years, so they know a thing or two about it!

Tersane Adasi

Nowadays, it’s an oasis of peace and calm, but Tersane Adasi (and the Gocek Bay area) was once the headquarters of the Ottaman Navy! ‘Tersane’ literally means ‘dockyard’ in Turkish, and this island is where they built all their finest ships. You can still spot hidden signs of this ancient former life, particularly if you’re able to snorkel.

Interestingly, the history of Tersane island goes back further still – it is regularly name-checked in Ancient Greek literature (when it was called ‘Telandros’) and it is believed to be the final resting place of the heroic Glaucos, who fought in the battle of Troy!

Cold Water Bay

To get there, we’re heading out south past the Fethiye headland, and you’ll find the destination tucked just around the other side. If you have time, you should sail a little further south to check out the famous Blue Lagoon – an stunning lagoon which you have to see to believe (Google it).

If you’re feeling energetic, then there’s the curious ghost town of Kayakoy located a short walk above Cold Water Bay: the largely Greek population that lived here were forced out of their homes as part of a Greek-Turkish people swap in 1923. None of the Turkish people who arrived in exchange wanted to live in Kayakoy, so consequently the whole village of 500+ buildings was abandoned, and is now a creepy tourist attraction.

Gocek

From Cold Water Bay, we’re sailing back towards the Gocek Bay area - so you can maybe check out another couple of idyllic places you liked over there, go exploring for places to stay over at next year, or go in search of the ultimate background to a team photograph – before sailing onwards to Gocek, and all it’s pretty sea-side restaurants. Moor up the boat pretty much where you found her, and then it’s time to high-five the crew for (another) job well done!

If you haven’t yet been out to Gocek yet then it is totally worth a stroll – there are lots of restaurants and bars along the long waterside promenade and there is a jovial holiday atmosphere – particularly with all the sailors back in town at the end of a great week of sailing.

Hopefully you’ve also had a great week of sailing, and you’re leaving here with a multitude of happy memories, a sun tan, and better friends than you arrived here with. Many people who sail in Turkey once end up sailing here year on year, so maybe we’ll see you again next summer? Otherwise, check out PlainSailing.com for more inspiration of places to sail. Have a safe trip home, and hopefully see you online soon :)

Sailing Conditions

Turkey Sailing - Wind Conditions

The prevailing winds are generally consistent, force 3 to 4 – which is absolutely perfect for sailing. You’ll find occasional weather systems arrive from elsewhere, particularly in spring or autumn, so it is worth checking the forecast before you set sail.

And in winter, then winds can arrive from any direction and you might face icy cold Siberian winds from the north, or warm equatorial tropical storms from the south.

Wind strengths and speeds also vary during the year, but tend to be between force 3 to 5 during summer – which is ideal sailing conditions – or stronger if you head out to the Dodecanese island. Winds are slightly stronger in winter.

Marmaris - Average Temperature

Göcek is now the biggest yacht charter hub in Turkey, and simultaneous developments of brand new marinas means that there are six marinas in the area. The three main ones we use are the giant D-Marin Göcek at the south of the town, the swish Marinturk Göcek Village Port just to the North of the town, and the quieter Club Marina which is a little further around the coast, but which is connected to Gocek by a regular (and free) ferry-bus. All are modern developments with excellent facilities.

Charters are normally Saturday to Saturday, so you might need to stay a night or two on land before or after your charter. Göcek is a great place to while away the time, and the following hotels in Göcek village centre are highly recommended for being fantastic hotels, but reasonably priced: A&B Home Hotel or Villa Danlin Hotel .
