Black Myth: Wukong - How To Get Kun Steel

Starfield player's rare & beautiful discovery proves you gave up on the game too soon, latest valheim tease could have much larger implications for the game.

Despite Animal Crossing: New Horizons ' lack of updates and news from Nintendo and its affiliates, it appears the game is still receiving some level of attention with the Marine Day event. Marine Day is based off of a real life Japanese celebration, during which the contribution of the sea to the prosperity of the country is acknowledged and celebrated. It holds particular importance given that Japan is an island nation, and is dependent on the sea for connecting it to the rest of the world. Marine Day is usually celebrated on the third Monday of every July, and special events such as water sports, water shows, and other cultural activities related to the sea take place.

Now, Japan's Marine Day holiday has entered  Animal Crossing: New Horizons and brought along new items to collect from the Nook Kiosk and Nook's Cranny. The event arrived slightly early so players could get into the spirit of Marine Day and utilize some of the special items that appear in Nook's Cranny until the event ends July 22nd. Some players are already embracing the Marine Day celebrations, and making breathtaking aquatic designs to honor the holiday and the ocean.

Related:  Animal Crossing: What Happens If You Don’t Pay Back Tom Nook

One of the Marine Day items obtainable in  Animal Crossing   is accessible from Nook's Kiosk, and may seem mundane at first, but can tie together the oceanic theme of one's house. The captain's wheel door decoration is only the first step of crafting the Marine Day aesthetic of an outdoor home scene, but players can further the effect by changing the colors of their house and roof. Many oceanside properties feature a white exterior with shingles and secondary colors to match the aquatic theme. The oceanic-themed color palettes of houses can be paired with aquatic-themed items such as sandcastles, surfboards, ships in bottles, and beach radios to complete the Marine Day look of Animal Crossing: New Horizons  players' and Villagers' homes alike.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Islands Fit Marine Day Perfectly

Given the many ways to celebrate Marine Day in the real world, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players can design islands with complete creative freedom. Because of the size of ACNH's islands, there is plenty of space to design areas for beach parties and water sports, especially with the wide variety of items that fit the Marine Day theme. In order to fill out some of the empty beach space and introduce a more natural setting, players may seek to plant more palm trees with spare coconuts. Beach chairs and lawn chairs make the perfect lounging setting, and when paired with ACNH Mermaid DIY recipes obtained from Pascal , can produce an enchantingly relaxing scene for those wishing to appreciate the sea's many gifts.

When Animal Crossing: New Horizons initially released, players could obtain specimens for their museums by digging up fossils, catching bugs, or fishing. Nintendo later added the diving mechanic, which allowed players to obtain and wear wetsuits in order to explore the ocean surrounding their island. Like other creatures and fossils that can be discovered, the specimens captured from the ocean's depths could be sold to propel the local economy at Nook's Cranny. As a result, some may wish to extend some Marine Day spirit to their docks and rocky coastlines with more authentic settings. Buckets of water, wooden barrels, stumps, and a viewing station for the creatures caught underwater can turn docks in Animal Crossing: New Horizons into an active fisherman's port. Placing the lighthouse item along the coast can complete the aesthetic of a profitable and functioning dock, with the seating options allowing player characters to sit back and rest after a long day at work.

One of the staples of the Animal Crossing franchise is the sheer number of items available to the player, encompassing hundreds of different styles and giving creative freedoms to build whatever designs are desired by the community. ACNH has only continued this trend with its vast number of aquatic-themed items to embrace the Marine Day spirit. No matter how players decide to celebrate Marine Day in Animal Crossing: New Horizons , there are sure to be plenty of items to enact whatever designs fans can dream of.

Animal Crossing New Horizons design illusions to inspire your build

From perspective tricks to interior design hacks

by Nicole Clark

A player in Animal Crossing: New Horizons standing in the middle of a marina, made with yacht items, and a design illusion that makes it appear as if they are actually floating in the water.

Design illusions have always been a cornerstone of inventive Animal Crossing: New Horizons island designs. They’re a fun way to make your island look beautiful, but they can be a little tricky to pull off without examples. And while there have been broader trends in design illusions, fans are still always coming up with their own creative takes.

A design illusion can take a handful of forms. Some of them involve using perspective tricks, to give the sense of scale or shape. For example, players used customized designs on umbrellas to make GameCubes, gift boxes, bookshelves, and trash bins. Players also set custom design pathing, to fake the appearance of islands floating in the sky . Other tricks involve repurposing items to create a desired look, like using silos to create the look of castle ramparts . More recently, players have created the illusion of balconies in their homes , by using partitions unlocked through playing the Happy Home Paradise DLC .

The 2.0 update added a ton of new items; some of these helped players achieve the island looks they wanted, without having to resort to illusions (like legitimate fortress items , which gave players more than just silos to play with). But players have still continued to use illusions — incorporating new items and techniques — to beautify their islands. Here are a few of our favorite fan created design illusions since the 2.0 update.

Marina illusion

The 2.0 update introduced a new Yacht item, but like other items, it can only be placed on land. Nonetheless, players have made great use of the Yacht , setting it on docks or attaching it to the back of cars, as if being towed to a beachside. But this Redditor creatively combined terraforming and custom pathing designs to create the illusion of boats actually floating in a marina.

Wall-mounted item glitch

While items can be placed on top of tables and stools, in the game, most shelving types don’t allow players to set items on top of them. So, how’s a New Horizons player supposed to display their cute plushy collection? Wall-mounting is the solution — items can be wall-mounted, and set above the top of floor items, to create the illusion of one item sitting atop the other.

Wall-mounted items will also peek through the furniture, pressed against the wall that overlaps with it (for example, the open part of a Nordic Shelf item). Fans have referred to this as “clipping” through. They’ve also used this technique to hang items on partitions (normally, partitions can’t have wall-mounted items).

Animated wallpaper

Animated wallpapers have long been part of the game. But players have continued to find inventive ways to use them, like in this Happy Home Paradise restaurant build, that makes it appear as if it’s inside a moving train. These can be a little harder to pull off, because the decorative items aren’t as easy to find. Players have a chance of getting a moving wallpaper or flooring from Saharah, when purchasing the “mystery” category.

Forced perspective

Forced perspective is an optical trick that creates the illusion of a longer draw distance. It lets players create shots like the one above, where the Statue of Liberty appears to be far away. To achieve it, players will terraform a bit of land, and then use miniature items in a designated spot, before tilting the camera to achieve the look of an item being far away as a result of that item being small. (I’m especially partial to using the Kerokerokeroppi Bridge, from the 2021 Sanrio collection , which basically looks like a miniature of the game’s actual Zen Bridge). The technique looks best when captured via image — it’s less of a design choice for island traversal or theming. Forced perspective isn’t a new trend — it’s about two years old — but the 2.0 update’s expanded camera options give players more angles to play with.

For good measure, here are two great, older example of how forced perspective — using miniature items — can create something extremely cool. (Pro tip: To force trees to stay small, plant a fruit right behind them, which will stunt their growth.)

Happy designing!

Black Myth: Wukong - Turtle Tear Quest Walkthrough

Astro bot vs. super mario odyssey: which game is better, how long does it take to beat every numbered dragon quest game.

One of the biggest appeals of  Animal Crossing: New Horizons  is the ability to decorate your island with all sorts of designs and themed areas. With this newest, most robust version of Animal Crossing   yet, there's an insanely vast lineup of furnishings, accouterments, and decorative flair. Because of this, and the ability to place items just about  anywhere  on your island — designing and decorating is more enjoyable than ever.

RELATED: Animal Crossing: 10 Best In-Game Cosplays, Ranked

At the same time, with so many options at one's disposal, it can be a bit overwhelming and somewhat tough to muster interesting design ideas. But the most awesome ideas are here, as well as content highlighting some of the coolest designs and custom rooms made by various Animal Crossing   players to act as a centerpiece for certain entries.

Updated June 23, 2021 by Stephen LaGioia:  In many ways, this delightful sim feels as organic as the trees and various growth scattered about its virtual islands. Not that this addictive romp needed it, but Nintendo has continued to breathe new life into New Horizons with various timed events, additions, and updates, which has coaxed players to keep returning to their dream islands.

The expansive, open-ended nature of this customizable game has also contributed to its longevity and evergreen nature. Players continue to churn out visually appealing islands along with creative themed areas and rooms. As such, it seemed fitting to make a return trip to this list and refresh it once again.

18 Campground

It's true that players begin their island escapades in the humble abode of a fairly cramped tent. Still, some may feel the desire to return to the simple life after industrializing and decking out their homes and islands, at least for a bit.

Players may wish to bask further in nature and partake in some peaceful lounging with a campground. There is an array of items catered to this woodsy outdoor theme, including camping cots, camp stoves, and bonfires. And of course, natural elements such as trees, log stools, and flowers go nicely with this, adding some scenery and bringing more of that Pocket Camp vibe.

17 Science Laboratory

Players can channel their inner mad scientist by filling out one of their rooms with a laboratory theme and equipment. Though New Horizons is a bit lacking in items with this theme compared to Pocket Camp, players can still get creative with a number of items, as illustrated by Akrpg.com.

The area can be decorated with visual elements like a writing poster, whiteboard, rocket lamp, and skeleton. Tables can then be filled with the visually stimulating Lab-Experiments set.

16 Bar/Cafe

After a long day of exploring, decorating, and resource-gathering, one might want to kick back at an island bar or café for some downtime and socializing.

A number of diner-themed items offer the vibe of a retro bar or café — including a counter table, diner sofa, and mini table. Opt for box corner sofas, double sofas, and antique mini tables for a more traditional look.

Wall-mounted TVs, starry garlands, floorlights, and DJ turntables can add a fun, festive element to the scene. This can further be complemented by drink and snack machines, revolving spice racks, restive top sets, and fruit baskets; especially fitting for cafes.

15 Car Park

Twitter user  RevanRek came up with this brilliant design of a car park on their Animal Crossing island, with them cleverly using the car bed furnishings as actual cars for their parking lot. These modern types of design ideas can really give your island a metropolitan city vibe.

RELATED: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - Items You Didn't Know You Could Customize

The details in this design really make it shine, such as trash cans, trash bags, and traffic cones, as well as some random littering of leaves. The neon "We're Open" sign gives a retro throwback feel, which could be paired nicely with a retro-themed café.

14 Flower Garden/Forest

While it can take some time and patience, planting in Animal Crossing   can be a truly rewarding experience. Seeing your trees bear new fruit or an array of vibrant flowers blossoming is delightful after having to wait a few days.

One lengthy, but rather fun task is to plot out a large area of land that can be used for planting trees bearing foreign fruit as well as flowers. Over time, this can evolve into a massive money-making endeavor  — and a visually pleasing one to boot. The various villagers  will also get a kick out of it.

There are plenty of nice-looking fences you can use to set up the perimeter for a garden. It can be laid out with rows of different colored roses, daisies, and the like. You can further spruce it up by adding some paved roads (assuming terraforming is unlocked) and place a garden table with plants and gardening tools.

13 Concert Area

Another great idea that players could implement on their island is a brand new concert area. While series icon K.K. Slider may have his own dedicated spot outside the town hall, if there are any other animal villagers that want to perform, then they need their own space.

RELATED:  Animal Crossing: New Horizons - DIY Basics You Need To Know

This awesome design by Twitter user  MochaHoneyBunny  looks great and is perfect for those wanting to perform and those wanting to watch and revel in the music. The lights really add to the nightlife vibe of this area.

12 Market Plaza

New Horizons   grants a basic premade plaza where Resident Services can be found. Still, this can be taken a step further by designing your own, more elaborate market square and island "hangout."

You can begin by filling in a plot of land with roads of cobblestone or another aesthetically pleasing tile. From there, you can sprinkle in some outdoor tables in chairs, and some food and coffee-related items. Consider laying down a tourist telescope for island visitors.

You can further decorate this with a few fruit trees and stalls to make this area resemble an open-air restaurant. Fruit tables also make a good fit for this sort of place. If you've got enough space, add a fountain to provide more scenery and atmosphere.

11 Forced Perspective Areas

Creative Animal Crossing players have been experimenting with the idea of forced perspective on their islands, creating small, miniature scenes that look as though they are very far away.

This particular scene was created by Twitter user Gaohmee , who has gone for a space theme for their island. These stunning little areas really add some depth and detail to islands and are sure to be a favorite destination for anyone who visits. With the vast catalog of items available in the game, there are so many possibilities of what forced perspective areas players could create.

10 Industrial Wasteland

One neat design that mix up the typically colorful, nature-themed environments of New Horizons is an industrial area and/or toxic wasteland. And hey - you might as well have something to do with those empty cans and tires you inadvertently catch while fishing.

RELATED:  Best Wallpapers In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Using these typically disposable items, you can craft things like tire toys, tire stacks, and even garbage bags. Clay furnaces, handcarts, and green oil drums resembling toxic barrels can also be sprinkled about to further drive this theme home. Players who opt for an indoor version can have some fun with this, as a garbage-themed floor can be placed to complete the getup.

9 Music Room

Though New Horizons   has an ample selection of nice tunes, why not add some musical flair of your own?

Instruments can be particularly amusing as they're among the few items that players can interact with. And with so many instruments and music-related objects in the game, a music room can be an entertaining hub that players and island visitors can use for impromptu jamming.

Things like guitars, amps, tambourines, and gongs can be added, while items such as music stands, stereos, and radios can be used to decorate and complement the room.

8 Sculpture Garden

With the introduction of Redd and the art gallery wing of the museum, players were given a lot more items that they could utilize to make their islands unique. Twitter user  aleumdaunmochi  used the sculptures, as well as some of the zodiac items, to create this gorgeous sculpture garden.

This beautiful design idea really adds an elegant flair to any island and the soft, muted color scheme with matching flowers makes the area really stand out and look absolutely gorgeous.

7 Hedge Maze

Following the recent May Day Hedge maze event , one can't help but ponder the potential for custom-made mazes to navigate through. A series of corridors can be placed outside using a hedge or fence. You can even take this to the next level by adding some obstacles like gaps or trees that can be worked through like a puzzle.

This can be utilized as a fun little activity for friends to partake in upon visiting your island.

6 Study/Home Office

Though island life can be fun and relaxing, having a place to study  — or simply read in peace — can also be important. New Horizons has plenty of items and furnishings that book worms should find suitable.

Consider decorating a room with things like writing desks, books, document stacks, fax machines, and homework sets. For more decorative elements, items like a world map, globe, cuckoo clock, and bottled ship can add to the motif. Perhaps add a fancy rug as well to really "tie the room together."

5 Beachfront Hangout/Waterpark

Since players are residing on a remote island , there will be no shortage of vast, serenading beaches to bask in. As such, it makes sense to spruce up at least some of this area with accouterments.

First and foremost, coconut trees are a good option. They're both visually appealing  and   practically useful, as players can sell the fruit at high prices. But this tropical growth can be complemented with much more beach and water-related decor.

Cots, bonfires, umbrellas, and tiki torches can be placed near the waterfront to present the vibe of a beach resort or campsite. Cassette players, sandboxes, and volleyballs can be sprinkled about to give the appearance of a fun beach hangout for those who enjoy sunbathing. A pool and lifeguard chair can be tacked on to add a waterpark motif as well.

4 Fitness Center

Though your avatar will have plenty of physical activities to partake in with crafting, mining, and chopping trees, why not add a fitness center to go along with it?

RELATED:  Animal Crossing: New Horizons: 15 Villagers That Fit In On A Gothic-Themed Island

There are plenty of items related to fitness, which can make for some visually neat decor. Many of these are on the pricier side but are worth shelling out for. Items include climbing walls, pull-up bar stands, punching bags, and tire stacks.

3 Character Specific Area

With so many unique Animal Crossing villagers, players are showing their love for their favorites by dedicating certain areas to them. For example, the dessert-like Merengue has rather fittingly been given her own bakery by Twitter user  mayqueencass , complete with personalized signage.

So many villagers could potentially have their own themed areas inspired by their looks, such as Frita the sheep , who is reminiscent of a burger and chips, having a fast-food restaurant. It's time to get designing for your favorite animal.

2 Carnival/Playground

Along with beaches, you can also fill in areas farther inland with entertaining accouterments. These can serve as a colorful carnival or playground which can liven up the island.

Tricycles, popcorn machines, playground gyms, golf bags, elephant slides, footballs, and springy ride-on machines can all be used to make this come to life. Cotton-candy stalls, soccer goals, and teacup rides can be added to further spruce this up.

Many of these are obtained through Nook Miles and a number of them aren't cheap — so get saving!

Given the theme of this publication, it's perhaps fitting that this list should conclude with an arcade room as the top entry. The obvious items to include here would be the Nintendo Switch, an "arcade fighting game," as well as an arcade seat to go with it.

Yet, players can get more creative in fleshing out their gaming room paradise with things like dartboards, snack/vending machines, and even a Transformer-Esque "robot hero."

Island Designs - Where To Begin?

Recommended places to build in your town.

So, you want to do something more with your island - that's great! But, maybe you're at a loss for where to start, or maybe you're just lacking the proper inspiration to get you started on a new design adventure. If you're looking for ideas on what else you could add to your island, we recommend building two very basic sections first: A Residential District and an Orchard.

Make A Residential District

A Residential District is essentially an area where you place the houses of all your villagers. Concentrating all residences in one area is a good way to stimulate your island's social scene - it will probably increase your likelihood of talking to your neighbors! This is also a relatively quick process, so we recommend this for those not sure of what to do next on their island.

Set Up An Orchard

An Orchard can be a location where you plant or relocate tons of fruit trees for easy harvesting access. This process makes your fruit gathering far more efficient, and is visually quite appealing to boot! All you need to do this is fruit trees, making it a very easy task to jump into as a beginner.

Easily Keep Track Of Your Villagers

Placing all of your villager houses in one centralized area will reduce your movement time and ultimately make your daily conversation routine much smoother!

Orchard Design Idea

Orchard

Easy & Efficient Fruit Gathering

Creating an Orchard will make your life a lot easier when it comes to gathering fruit! Never again will you ask yourself "wait, where was that pear tree again?" - everything will be neatly concentrated in one area. If you sometimes forget to pick fruit from your trees, this method may actually also effectively end up making you more money!

Quarry/Rock Garden Design Idea

Stone Pit

Efficient Stone Gathering Spot

A quarry is simply a place for you to place your island's 6 rocks for easy and efficient gathering! And that's not all - you can actually also cause your island's fossils to spawn in this location too, which will no doubt impact your Museum progress!

Set The Location Of Trees And Bottles

Aside from rocks and fossils, it's actually also possible to fix the location of trees and message bottles! Since you can get furniture and DIY recipes from these, this can also seriously improve your efficiency. Note that these methods take a bit of time, however.

Japanese Themed Island Design

Japanese "zen" town.

A fan of eastern architecture? Well, as it turns out New Horizons is chock full of Japanese-style furniture and clothes, which means if you put your mind to it you can create a wonderful "Zen" paradise!

Flowers

Keeping all your flowers in one neat little area not only has the aesthetic advantage of making your island look stylish, but it also lets you catch bugs that spawn on flowers much easier! Consider making one for your island!

Bathhouse Design

How to build a hot spring.

hot Spring

Speaking of Japanese-inspired designs, how about creating a bathhouse for your island's residents to relax after a hard day of ... well they might not exactly work but they'll surely appreciate a good hot spring!

Street Market Design

A lively street stall district.

Street Stalls

Another idea is to create a road on your island and line it with tons of colorful street vendors! You can customize stalls to your liking and place small objects on the stalls to make your town look like it has a booming economy!

  • Tropical Island Resort

Vacation Resort Getaway

Resort

It's true that you're already on a "vacation" of sorts, but why not make a getaway within a getaway and create a tropical resort area somewhere on your island? Decorate the area with palm trees, hang hammocks, and have easy access to the beach for a perfect recreational area!

Have A Drink And Relax

Cafe

Why not set up a cozy cafe where your villagers can congregate to gossip over fancy espressos? An outdoor cafe might be just what your island needs!

Park/Playground Design

A spot for all to play.

Park

If you're lacking recreational spots on your island, it might be worth setting up a small park! Set up some equipment, a jungle gym, or maybe a sandbox and add a family-friendly aura to your island!

Medieval Castle

Fortify your island.

Castle

Want to make your island a more medieval looking place? You've already got king-like authority so you might as well make yourself a castle! Set up an entrance to your castle - you can also choose to make yourself a Daimyo and build up a cool Japanese style castle too!

Add A Little Amusement To Your Island

Theme Park

Although there is certainly a lack of theme park rides such as Roller Coasters and Ferris Wheels, you can still put together an awesome smaller scale amusement park using existing furniture!

Wedding Hall Design

Get married in-game.

Wedding

June is the official Wedding Season Month, so you might as well use all the Wedding-related Furniture you're getting to make a wedding hall on your island! Then, invite a friend to your island and have your own ceremony!

Pond Designs

Add some splash to your island.

Pond

If you feel your island is lacking in blue, why not add some ponds? You can make them in different ways - you have heart-shaped ponds, clover shaped, crescent shaped, and more!

Beach Area Designs

Feel the summer heat.

Beach Party

Can't feel the summer heat? Create a beach area so you can swim and interact with your friends and villagers with this summer themed ideas.

Summer Festival Designs

Experience a japanese matsuri.

Japanese Fest

Celebrate the hot summer by creating a Japanese-style festival in your island. Make use of Stalls and fences to create a huge festival Turret that will surely be a great photo spot in your island.

Plan Out The Structure First

Island design is a large undertaking - it's important to get a mental picture of your island's structure first before starting. Try drawing it on a piece of paper in front of you - plan exactly where you'll move all important facilities first!

Get Inspiration From Others

There are heaps of people out there also making unique islands of their own. The best way to get ideas on what to do is to browse social media or forums for design ideas. When you see something you'd like to try, or a custom design you'd like to use, go for it! However, we encourage you to be respectful with how you use the designs of others!

Best Animal Crossing: New Horizons island ideas

Looking for inspiration? Here are some of the most inventive Animal Crossing island ideas

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas

The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update 2.0 brings with it more than 9000 new items which means the Animal Crossing: New Horizons community is in full swing creating next level islands. The combination of new items and customization options means that there’s no shortage of incredible creations. This is perfect if you’re looking for Animal Crossing: New Horizons island inspiration. Those on the hunt for Animal Crossing: New Horizons ideas are now faced with a smorgasbord of fresh islands to lust after as Animal Crossing’s finest creators realise the possibilities on offer.

And, while the update brought many much-needed quality of life upgrades, there have been a couple of updates since the game’s release which will make a big difference if you haven’t checked in in a while. An additional 100 design slots were added back in March 2021 which means 50 regular design slots and 50 pro design slots. Ideal if you spent a long time lusting after multi-slot paths last year but couldn’t spare the space. And don't forget you can access codes directly from your NookPhone too.

So, whether you’re looking for pier customisation options or just see the new castle items in action, here are some of the most inventive Animal Crossing: New Horizons island ideas.

1. Get inventive with Kapp’n’s pier

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas

Now that we’re heading to Kapp’n’s Pier every day to go on exciting island tours, that one fishing decoration you put there a year ago just isn’t going to cut it. It’s time to take some inspiration from @MistyCoveIsle on Twitter who has come up with all kinds of different ways to decorate the space with a selection of design codes. Whether you decorate it with a fringed rug or even a lounger or two, the pier will quickly become your island’s most stylish locale. You don’t want Kapp’n to sing about your bad design choices, do you?

2. ‘Abandonedcore’ is the new cottagecore

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas - 'Abandonedcore’

Remember when we couldn’t move last year for petals and log furniture as everyone transformed their islands into cottagecore paradises? Well, it’s time for something a little more apocalyptic. @Seaburd on Twitter has coined her dilapidated creations ‘Abandonedcore’ and we’re getting a distinct The Last of Us feel from her shots. The official addition of vehicles means that there’s now longer a need to build them from perspective cheats and broken dreams. Expect many more industrial island creations but the idea of nature reclaiming the world here is a lovely touch.

3. Keep an eye out for vines

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas using vines

The release of crafting recipes all themed around vines and glowing moss means that things have taken a distinct turn for the Indiana Jones in Animal Crossing. Ruins and vines are everywhere in Bertown by @BertCrossing on Twitter. The path here is by @kuroneko_5810 and is a perfect combination with the ancient items and twisted overgrown fairytale trees. If you’re looking for the recipes and crafting resources for these, remember to get on Kapp’n’s boat every day and keep hunting for DIYs.

4. Start customising lamp posts

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas using customizable lamp posts

It’s the little details in Animal Crossing: New Horizons that make it so difficult to put down - well, that and those aforementioned 9000 items. The addition of customisable lamp post signs means that people like @Daileyart on Twitter can create these perfect miniature designs that make your island even more unique. Whether you want a Skyrim-style fantasy island packed with dragon iconography or just something to make your streetlights look a bit fancier, these custom creations are a subtle addition to make things feel truly yours.

5. Construct your dream castle

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas to construct your dream castle

Castles in Animal Crossing: New Horizons used to require hours perfectly positioning simple panels and then finding the ultimate camera angle to create the illusion. Well the good news is that now, while you’ll still play for hours, there are all manner of castle items to craft your ultimate keep. @Thorin_ACH has gone hard on the Game of Thrones imagery with his perfect fort, complete with sentries, cauldrons, and turrets. And, not to be outdone on the creative front, can you see two of Gulliver’s Italian offerings in the picture above?

6. Go to Wonderland

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas themed around Alice in Wonderland

Why not theme your entire island to your favourite children’s literature? That’s exactly what @MarieTattersall on Twitter has done with her astonishing Wonderland creation. Making the most of many mushroom items, this incredible island is packed with iconic imagery from Lewis Carroll’s creation. You can see a full tour of Wonderland on Animal Crossing Island Tours With Mimi . Every section of the island is perfectly themed, complete with the caterpillar, a ‘beheading’ zone and just the right number of roses to keep the Red Queen happy.

7. Shrek-tacular scenes

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Island ideas where players are recreating Shrek

Animal Crossing islands are like onions and ogres. They have layers. This perfect recreation of Shrek’s swamp by @Anna_ACNHS on Twitter is terrifyingly good. Not only is Shrek on point but Fiona looks spot on and this is another inventive way to use the vine and fantasy elements, as well as a great use of the new house renovations. Oh, and let’s take a minute just to admire how perfect that ‘Beware Ogre’ sign is. All we need now is a cat and a horse villager to have a full Dreamworks sequel on the go.

8. Make a splash

Making a pool

The best thing about this peaceful outdoor pool design from madoodlem on Reddit isn’t the three available colours to match your mini pool, or even the inventive lighting system, it’s that it only takes three of your custom design slots. But this is just the beginning. With countless other incredibly intricate tile designs available, your pool can quickly become a work of art. You could even search for ‘puddles’ at the Able Sisters to add even more H2O. Just be prepared for images of a very small pink frog to appear too.

9.  Take the museum outside

animal crossing yacht ideas

If you like wandering into the museum just to sit and watch the butterflies flutter, you’re not alone. And, more importantly, you don’t always have to head to Blathers’ domain to enjoy them. Catch three of the same of your favourite bugs, hand them over to Flick for model making, and you can create your very own butterfly garden like twerk_on_that_shark on Reddit. It’s probably a good thing that Blathers never leaves the museum. Wretched things…

10. Release your inner pirate

animal crossing yacht ideas

Raise the mainsail, cross your ayes, and practice your best me hearties with a full on pirate ship to make the most of Gullivarr’s booty. @Cosmos_ray on Twitter has taken it, quite literally, to the next level with a fully terraformed multi-level galleon complete with moat, Wood Burning Stove mast and Market Sign sails. Don’t worry, there’s no need to make any villagers walk the plank if you don’t have space. The beach makes a perfect location for a docked or even grounded ship.

11. Build glass bridges

animal crossing yacht ideas

There are now 10 bridges available but dependent on your designs, that might still not feel like quite enough. Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to get inventive and create your own island crossings with terraforming. Tile over the top with a design like ghosthost999 ’s glass bridge on Reddit and you might find that Nook’s own variety are now lacking a distinct sense of risk with every step.

12. Create themed restaurants

animal crossing yacht ideas

For the days you just can't get to Disneyland, consider your Animal Crossing island an essential part of your CV for a career in Imagineering. You could build a regular restaurant with all of that colourful furniture, but throw in some of Celeste’s crafting recipes and the Diner collection and you’ll have a culinary experience akin to Disney ’s Sci-Fi Dine in Theater in no time. Think of your favourite restaurants and start getting inventive. Just don’t let Zucker near any sushi, eh?

13. Get farming

animal crossing yacht ideas

This is for those of us who switched up a Stardew addiction for an Animal Crossing one. Is there truly a way to feel at home in a game without any cows or sheep to tend to? No, Rodeo and Wendy don’t count. This barn and livestock combo comes courtesy of Mctieknots on Reddit and it’s a perfect springboard to a future agricultural paradise. Tilled fields of turnips, Simple Panel greenhouses and orchards all make for perfect Animal Crossing island ideas.

14. Don’t forget the chickens

animal crossing yacht ideas

A little further down the pecking order, so to speak, is this perfect chicken coop. Made up of two stalls, some Simple Panels and some eggcellent hat designs from @daileyart on Twitter, this hen packed-delight is another innovative creation with AC’s existing recipes. For more Animal Crossing inspirations and ideas, make sure to follow Andrea on Instagram too for more brilliant pieces. French doors on a Simple Panel, anyone?

15. Scaring is caring

animal crossing yacht ideas

Don’t panic, there’s nothing wrong with you if you want to add a little, well, unspeakable terror to your Animal Crossing island. How can we know what true happiness is if we don’t experience the darker side of life? Whether you’re placing in-game skeletons and anatomical models in murder basements, or painting the ground with the above instant coulrophobia from @cybearizons on Instagram, there are plenty of ways to increase your islands spookometer. Don’t forget to add KK Dirge to nearby speakers to add even more atmosphere.

16. Build a bar

animal crossing yacht ideas

Brewster has arrived but if you and your friends are looking for something a little stronger than coffee, you might want to create your own drinks establishment. This classy bar design from @morimorisenyou on Twitter works both inside and outside and comes complete with a satisfying keg Simple Panel design. Use this as a diving off point and recreate your favourite cocktail bar. Tangy would probably love a cannibalistic Screwdriver or two.

17. Give villagers themed gardens

animal crossing yacht ideas

Who cares if they have no intention of even looking at your creations, let alone acknowledging them, your villagers deserve perfectly themed garden areas. This perfect barber zone from @ wd_mori on Twitter in honour of Gaston’s impressive facial fuzz is only the beginning of the glorious potential. Why not build a tea house for Tia? An orange grove for Tangy? And Lucky would just love a graveyard… Well, there’s another hundred hours gone.

18. Embrace the path

animal crossing yacht ideas

Gaze back in time to the Animal Crossings of yore and you might remember that the only way to make paths previously was to constantly run along the same patches of ground. Thankfully we aren’t still purposefully making holes in the grass but what the AC community now only refers to as The Path from @Denim2_mori brings the same natural feel as those well-trodden grooves. And there are now dozens of new variations. Whether you want spilled sprinkles in multiple colours or black cobblestones , there’s a perfect design for your island out there.

19. Have a picnic

animal crossing yacht ideas

Yes, your villagers will probably still sit adamantly right next to your perfectly placed cushions but that’s no reason not to try. Creating a picnic area on the beach or hidden snugly in an orchard is a simple addition that only requires a few design slots. This creation from moonbunnyart on Reddit comes complete with blanket tassels and makes the most of a stack of Sable’s patterns for the custom cushions. Teddy bears are of course optional. Just don’t tell Stitches.

20. Build an outdoor library

animal crossing yacht ideas

If the one thing keeping you from building a library outside is the idea of the books getting wet, you’re not alone. We like to imagine that they’re all waterproof which is the only way that we could build anything like @haru_eiffel ’s beautiful natural library. Check out the rest of their Instagram if you’re looking for more non-book flavoured Animal Crossing ideas. Be warned though, it’s one of those ‘are we even playing the same game?’ accounts.

21. Construct a market

animal crossing yacht ideas

Even though DIY recipes can now go in your storage, you want to make sure you actually do as the game wants and find a way to properly share them.  Where better then than an actual marketplace. You don’t really need to build an entire cityscape for the background like @okinawa.island on Instagram but a market packed with stalls will be a welcome addition to your island. It’s also perfect for leaving other specific items to share with friends.

22. Add city feels

animal crossing yacht ideas

Visit an Animal Crossing newbie’s home and the first thing that will hit you is just how green it all is. We did all start out on an abandoned island, y’know. A fun mission then is to design like you never want to see green again. Islands like those of @miss_acnh on Instagram make the most of stone and metal to bring a big city atmosphere to proceedings. Just remember that if you don’t like the colours of your Nook Miles items you can take them to be customised on Harv's Island so that everything fits in.

23. Keep clean with a laundry

animal crossing yacht ideas

Until this moment, we’d never really thought about where villagers without washing machines cleaned their clothes. It turns out that all those Jocks joking about sweat stains on your recipes probably weren’t kidding. Step in @imotarez on Twitter then with some fresh-smelling inspiration. This laundrette once again makes the most of Simple Panels as both dividers and machine facades and thankfully has plenty of reading material.

Next you’ll need to deck out the area with lots of the wedding items.

The wedding items are obtainable from Reese & Cyrus all throughout June. If you help them take wedding photos, they’ll reward you with crystals that you can then exchange for wedding furniture.

If you’re looking for something more on the unusual side for your beach, why not add a flea market?

It’s such a fun idea to display and sell your fake artworks from Redd.

You can also add some custom stalls with other antique items you’d like to sell.

Bookcases are a good addition to this look, since they come filled with books already.

Finish by adding some flowers and trees, but definitely feel free to get creative here. Really make this idea your own!

1. Beach Stargazing Area

Stargazing area on the beach - ACNH Idea

There’s nothing better than an evening under the stars.

To create this yourself, you’ll want a custom design for the blanket to get that down first.

Then once you’ve laid that down, you can place some picnic items on top.

Use things like fruit baskets and a picnic hamper to tie the look together.

And maybe add some coconut trees and heaps of flowers to set the scene.

Of course, you’ll need to set up a telescope too. Everyone wants to see the stars up close!

And just like that, you have the most amazing beach area to take it all in and enjoy the stars.

27 Animal Crossing: New Horizons Tips to Up Your Island Game

I've been an Animal Crossing fan for 19 years , so you can say things are pretty serious. New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch is, in my opinion, the best version of the game yet.

With my extensive (OK, obsessive) knowledge of the series, I'm always fielding questions about the newest game. So I decided to compile tips (some from my colleagues too!) and answers to questions even I had to look up. Here's how to make the most of your island vacation.

Updated November 2020: We've removed some outdated seasonal tips and added advice on kicking out villagers.

When you're making DIY recipes, it can get annoying to wait through the animations every time you create something new. Speed the process up drastically by pressing the A button a few times in quick succession once your character starts crafting. (In case you didn't know, repeatedly pressing B will make animals talk faster too.)

Use your Nook Miles and the NookStop to unlock the maximum inventory capacity of 40 item slots to get more room in your pockets. I like to keep certain crafting items on me at all times so I can make a new bug-catching net or fishing rod at a moment's notice. Aside from tools, I always have iron nuggets, wood, softwood, hardwood, stones, and tree branches on hand. Several items stack, but once you get 30 pieces of something like wood, it will automatically start using a new inventory slot.

Pressing B while you move will make you run. This scares off bugs and fish, and it can ruin freshly planted flowers, so be careful. Pressing A while you move with a net in hand will make you sneak. Letting go of A while sneaking immediately swings the net down. This is the best way to creep up on skittish insects like moths, and it's the only way to efficiently catch tarantulas and scorpions. Slowly walk toward them with your net up and stop as soon as their legs start shaking. When they stop, proceed, and rinse and repeat.

When you head to a mystery island, shake every single tree. There's always a piece of furniture hiding in one of them. You'll want to make sure you have your net out though, as there's at least one wasp nest that will fall too. Oh yeah, you can catch those wasps before they attack. Just quickly tap A as soon as they pop out (facing them).

Sometimes, during the morning announcements, Isabelle will let you know that a Meteor Shower is on the way that night. The timing, it seems, is completely random. With more than 170 hours in the game, I haven't had an official Meteor Shower yet, though I have met Celeste. She's Blathers' sister, and she'll occasionally hook you up with a special zodiac-themed DIY recipe. (Looking around various forums, it appears this may be a bug; some players haven't seen Celeste but have had Meteor Showers, and others have seen Celeste but not a shooting star, and so on.)

Either way, shooting stars appear at random between 7 pm and 4 am on clear, cloudless nights. They sound like a shimmery sort of bell. The noise is kind of quiet— headphones might be a good idea to hear them. Make sure your hands are empty, use the right joystick to look up, and press A when a star is overhead to make a wish. Shooting stars usually appear in bursts, so keep staring at the sky after wishing in case another one or three shoot by. The next day, your beaches will have Star Fragments you can use to craft certain DIY recipes.

You've probably already figured out that eating a piece of fruit and then hitting a rock with your shovel or stone axe will break a rock, but did you know that the same action can help you move trees around? Gone are the days of chopping and replanting. As WIRED writer Louise Matsakis pointed out, once your fruit-eating powers have been activated, you can use your shovel to dig up a tree. It'll get stashed inside your pocket for easy planting.

Once per day, there'll be a shiny spot on the ground that contains 1,000 Bells. Reburying the bag of Bells will sprout a Bell tree that grows cash every few days. However, if you plant even more Bells, you have a chance of growing a tree that sprouts heftier Bell bags. This trick has led to me growing multiple 10,000-Bell trees. To plant a larger quantity of Bells, go to your pockets and click on the Bell counter in the bottom left-hand corner. From there, you can choose how many Bells to separate, and then select Bury in Hole to plant them.

27 Surprising Tips to Master 'Animal Crossing New Horizons'

There are a few creatures that only stick around for the duration of any given month. They vary depending on what hemisphere you live in, and in the effort to not spoil things, I'm going to leave you with this: Bugs and fish can be trickier than you think. Some of the fish I've caught only spawn for a few hours in locations like the uppermost cliff river, the mouth of a river, or in a pond. The same goes for bugs. Certain types will only spawn on rotten vegetables, trash, or villagers. Be creative and diligent in your search! If you're trying to spawn fish in a certain spot, use fish bait to speed up the process. You might get a few Nook Miles for your troubles.

You're probably visiting the NookStop inside your Resident Services Center once per day to rack up those sweet, sweet bonus miles. Here's another trick: Redeem your Nook Miles from the NookPhone app as soon as you earn them . Once you redeem bonus miles, you'll receive a new task, and it might be for something you were about to do anyway. It's a simple step that'll help you accrue more efficiently.

There's no deadline for paying off your home, so while it can be smart to put your Bells toward your loan, be sure to spend them graciously at various vendors across your island after paying off your first remodel or two. Spending Bells is typically a prerequisite for certain upgrades. Check out what the general store has to offer each day (and press R to check out the entirety of what's inside the cabinet). The same goes for the fitting room at the tailor's shop—you never know what you might find.

That being said, if you want to save up, keep Bells in your ABD savings account rather than in your pockets. You'll accrue some interest over time (though Nintendo slashed the interest rate a bit).

Everything Apple Announced Today

While New Horizons undeniably has the best fashion items and dressing interface of the franchise, there are plenty of customizable patterns that'll help you tweak how your character looks. WIRED's own Cecilia D'Anastasio used face paint and custom patterns to give her character cool eyebrows and crop tops. If you aren't particularly pattern-savvy, you can use the kiosk in the tailor's shop to download designs for clothing and paths. Check out Instagram for a huge collection of accounts that post cute designs every day. You can also use AC Patterns to find cool designs or create your own.

On Sundays, Daisy Mae will visit your island. She's an adorable boar and the granddaughter of Sow Joan, who you may have met in previous iterations of Animal Crossing . Daisy Mae sells turnips, which vary in price. You can buy in bundles of 10. You can then flip those turnips later on in the week for serious cash.

If you want to buy low and sell high, look to Reddit to find islands with high buying prices. You might have to wait in a virtual line for a while, but if you're determined, this is the best way to turn a profit. Just keep in mind that turnips rot after a week, and if you fiddle with the game settings and travel back in time, your turnips will immediately go bad.

There's some contention around time-hopping, which is basically a method of manipulating the Nintendo Switch's time and date settings to cheat time in the game. I like to play New Horizons for hours on end, so I'm pro-hopping, but some people prefer the natural unhurried pace of the game. Time-hopping helps you quickly finish building upgrades and bridges, gives you more fossils to find, and generally resets your daily tasks.

But if you time-travel recklessly, there are some risks. Your relationships with your villagers can deteriorate, your island might get overrun with weeds, and you might mess up your ability to participate in special events since they won't begin unless you're synced up to the internet.

To time-hop with lower risks, here's what I do:

  • Save your game by pressing the minus button on your left Joy-Con. Close the software by pressing the Home button and then pressing X.
  • Navigate to the system settings menu, scroll down to System , and scroll to Date & Time .
  • Uncheck the box that syncs your Switch's internal clock to the internet. Move the date forward exactly one day.
  • Reopen Animal Crossing , start the game, and then save again.
  • Repeat steps 1 to 3, but this time check the box that syncs your in-game clock to the internet.

Your game will have advanced one day, but you won't travel so far ahead that you risk messing up your island. Keep in mind that time-hopping rots turnips.

To eventually reach a five-star island rating, it'll take time and effort. You can check your island rating by speaking with Isabelle in Resident Services. Take her advice literally: If she says you need more fencing, you need more fencing. The same goes for decor. Does she say you need more decorations or more items you've crafted yourself? Pay close attention to the hints she gives.

You'll need well-balanced furniture and deco items scattered throughout your island, as well as a certain amount of flowers, fencing, and trees. Be sure to pick up tree branches and weeds as soon as you see them—they drag your island rating down.

If you have a full island with 10 residents and a villager visiting your campsite, you can talk to the visitor over and over again to convince them to move to your island. This is key: They'll randomly choose a villager to evict. You can accept their initial offer if they're trying to trade places with the critter you dislike. If they don't choose the right villager, you'll need to re-roll by completely exiting the software and going through the process again.

If you're trying to get rid of a villager and you have a visitor at the campsite, I recommend immediately running to the site when you first load up the game. That way you won't lose any progress if you need to restart. If that process seems like too much work, your next-best bet is ignoring your future evictee completely. Don't speak to them unless they have a bubble over their head, which may indicate that they're thinking about moving (though sometimes bubbles over their head might mean they want to give you something). That's when you can enthusiastically encourage them to do so.

For a foolproof way to kick out a villager, you'll need to use an amiibo figure or card. Bring the amiibo villager to your campsite using the ABD Machine on three different days. Each time they visit, ask them to move to your island. On the third visit, they'll agree to move in and will ask who you'd like them to replace. Choose your least favorite NPC and the process will be complete. This method is how I successfully bid farewell to Rodney, my blue hamster archnemesis.

Each day, there's a chance you'll have a special visitor. They'll either be hanging out in your plaza, wandering around your island, or passed out somewhere along the beach. Make sure to interact with them. You might get a new DIY recipe, a donation for your museum, some deco for your island, or a special opportunity to sell items like bugs and fish. Visitors can also help you plan out your daily activities; for instance, when Flick is around, I make sure to catch every bug I see so that I can sell them for 1.5 times the usual price.

If you're trying to chat with your friends, the in-game keyboard is tedious. Install the Nintendo Switch Online app on your real-life phone and you'll be able to type whatever you want to say using your device's keyboard. The text then appears above your character's head in-game. It can be cumbersome to use two different devices, but this is the best way I've found to speak with people without going crazy trying to navigate the Switch's virtual keyboard.

Note: To link the app to your game, you'll need to press the minus symbol on the game's loading screen and choose NookLink Settings .

Eventually, you'll be able to use the Island Designer app to terraform your island. It lets you lay down paths, alter your rivers, and edit your cliffs. Let's say you want to build a bridge somewhere, but the river isn't suitable. You can open up the app and use the corresponding permit to reshape the waterway. These permits and designs are unlockable within the NookStop.

Want to use a certain song as your town tune, but not sure how to make it sound right? Check out this subreddit . If you can't find what you want, you can request that someone else help you out. You can also give this site a try .

Your island's general store only sells a few types of flowers. Other islands may sell different types, or you can purchase those when Leif is in town. Hybrid flowers grow when certain types of flowers are blooming near one another, and you water them using a watering can.

There are all sorts of guides out there for growing specific kinds of hybrid flowers, but my best advice is to plant flowers of the same type near one another, with room around those flowers for more to grow. Then water them every day. The more flowers you plant, and the more you water them, the more likely you are to grow special hybrids.

Want to send a letter? Head to the airport and check out the card stand next to the main service counter. You can send a letter to a current resident, your future self, or a friend you've marked as a Best Friend in the NookPhone app. You can attach a present before sending the letter off—and if you want to wrap that present, be sure to do it beforehand with wrapping paper purchased from your island's general store. Sending a card costs 200 Bells.

If your favorite villager is proving elusive, you can use their Amiibo card or figurine to bring them to your island. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, finding Amiibo online is trickier than usual. You can try your local game store, but if you don't want to take the risk, your best bet is searching for the villager you want on eBay . Cards tend to be cheaper and easier to find than figures. We have a handy guide for shopping smartly on eBay that you should check out before getting started.

Once you have your Amiibo card, you can visit the NookStop, select Invite a Camper , and follow the on-screen instructions.

Maybe you really want to finish that Cute furniture set, or you're struggling to grow the right hybrid flowers. Enter Nookazon , a massive DIY Amazon-style marketplace dedicated to Animal Crossing: New Horizons . Run mainly through Discord, the site is full of users selling everything from fashion items to furniture. Exchange Bells for the goods you just have to have. Be ready to haggle, and read through the rules to ensure that your trades are safe . Check out this guide to getting started for more.

You might already know that pressing the square button on the left Joy-Con will take a screenshot, but you can use the NookPhone Camera app to take some stylized shots. Traveling to Harvey's island via your airport also provides a great environment for staging photos. Additionally, if you're filming a TikTok or want to capture footage of you finally catching that elusive scorpion, you can long-press the square button to save a file of the last 30 seconds of gameplay.

Photos and videos are saved in your Nintendo Albums. There's no elegant solution for saving the photos, but you can link your Twitter and Facebook accounts to post them directly from the console. I edited my Facebook privacy settings to ensure that Nintendo Switch Share photos are only visible to me, so I can save them to my computer after sharing. The Albums software lets you share up to four photos at once if you opt to "Post Batch."

An update brought the nefarious trickster Jolly Redd to ACNH . He'll show up occasionally on his boat, parked at the private beach on the very back of your island, and he's got both art and furniture up for grabs. Be wary, though. During each visit, you'll only be able to buy one of the available pieces of art, and all of them but one are fakes. Blathers won't accept counterfeit paintings, so you need to be careful before committing to buy.

When you're in Redd's boat and checking out a piece of art, be sure to tell him that you want a closer look. This will shine a spotlight on the piece in question. You'll be able to zoom in to check out the details. Sometimes they're easy to spot—like a scowling Mona Lisa—but other times you'll need to look closely to spot any forgery details. To save time and Bells, I use this guide to tell whether or not a piece of art is genuine.

This isn't a gameplay tip, but if you can't nab the limited-edition Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch Console , you're in luck. Popular custom skin manufacturer Dbrand has nearly identical skins available that'll make your Switch console look like the real deal. A move Jolly Redd would be proud of, indeed.

For other ways to trick out your console, you can turn to Amazon for Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch accessories . I'm a fan of this adorable outdoor pattern skin , and these custom thumbgrips are another nice option. You don't need to drop several hundred dollars on a new console to show off your love for the island life.

A summer update added the ability to dive deep for sea creatures, including elusive scallops that you can then trade to Pascal for mermaid-themed DIY recipes and pearls (a necessary component of those recipes). To dive, you'll need a wet suit. You can get one from the general store or from the Nook Shopping ABD option. You can use your tools while wearing a wet suit, so feel free to put it on over your outfit.

To dive, empty your hands (and your pockets, if you want to save time). Then head to the shoreline and press A. You'll hop in the water. Press A repeatedly to swim around. (You don't need to press the button quickly to swim.) Once you spot bubbles, press Y to dive. You're looking for a shadow underwater. Swimming above the shadow will automatically make your character dive and catch the critter. You can hold your breath for only a few moments, so try to get close to the bubbles before you take the plunge. You'll fill up your Critterpedia, find some new donations for Blathers, and rack up the Bells—some of the underwater pals sell for up to 12,000 Bells a pop.

Get Inspired And Perfect Your Pier In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Having had so much time pass since the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it’s no secret or surprise that inspiring island design ideas are everywhere. We’ve seen (and shown) examples of  gorgeous gardens ,  wonderful waterfalls ,  cool campsites (to name just a few areas!) from the game. As inspiration is everywhere, you may feel you have finished decorating your island.

I thought I had, until I realised there were a few areas that looked a bit bare. Two examples of areas that I didn’t know what to do with were my island’s peninsula and its rocky areas . The pier in Animal Crossing: New Horizons (known as the dock in previous games), has also proven pesky to decorate due to being too narrow and small.

As a result, I haven’t yet decorated my pier, despite owning the game for well over six months. Wanting to rectify this, I decided to scour the web for some ideas. I wasn’t disappointed. My search yielded piers transformed into wonderful wharves, relaxing reading spots and peaceful picnic areas.

I made the assumption that some players were ‘in the same boat’. And so, I compiled a few of my favourite piers, to share with you in this article right here(s).

If the player has not been to a Gyroid, Produce, or Glowing Moss-type island within the last 7 boat tours and none of the other island types are chosen for that day, the island visited will be of one of those four types that has not been visited. If there are multiple, the type visited the longest time ago is selected.

Certain islands exist in a different season or time of day from the game clock. This can be taken advantage of to catch out-of-season fish , insects , and sea creatures . However, these islands cannot be visited if the specific player has not personally experienced that season at least once before. Time continues to pass while on these islands, which can be observed if the player spends several hours on one.

Probability [ edit ]

The game first determines if the player will visit a normal island (78%) or a rare island (22%). If the player has received a fortune for improved belongings luck that day, this is always guaranteed to be a rare island. [1] Otherwise, the game will calculate this as follows:

  • If a normal island is chosen, the game will select a normal island type from the ones that have not been visited in the longest time within the last 7 days. The counter for not visiting a particular island can increase to a maximum of 20 days.
  • If a specific player has not yet personally experienced the date on their own island that the selected island currently experiences, the game will instead select a normal island. This is always guaranteed to be the vine/glowing moss island if the player has received a fortune for improved belongings luck that day.

Common factors [ edit ]

All islands contain a single buried gyroid fragment .

Flowers will always be in-season according to the date experienced on the island, but will never be the player's native or sister flowers. The bushes present on the island are always the current bushes in bloom as determined by the game's time.

Bug and fish spawns will always match the date that the island is experiencing (either fixed or real in-game time).

For normal islands, there is a 29.4% chance of one of the rocks being a money rock , and a 2% chance of all rocks being money rocks. Rare islands will always have at least one money rock present.

Types of islands [ edit ]

Normal islands [ edit ].

Normal islands all have multiple possible layouts, one of which will be chosen at random when the player visits an island type.

Gyroid islands [ edit ]

Chance: 30%

These islands are encountered most frequently between all island types. This type of island is always guaranteed to be visited upon the player's first boat tour, when searching for Brewster, and whenever the player has received a bad belongings fortune from Katrina (and has not opted for purification). In this latter scenario, the buried gyroid fragment will always be replaced with clay .

There is an 8% chance that the player may encounter the same island but with precipitation (either rain or snow depending on the time of year). In addition to the usual buried gyroid fragment, there will be one fully-formed gyroid buried as well. This can be any gyroid except for a brewstoid .

Internal ID Vegetable

These islands contain multiple plants of one random type of produce , with each plant containing a fixed amount of harvestable goods. The message bottle that appears on the beach always contains a random cooking recipe. If the player has not purchased Be a Chef! DIY Recipes+ however, the message bottle will instead contain furniture DIY recipes.

Northern Hemisphere

These islands contain vines and glowing moss . The message bottle that appears on the beach always contains a random vine or glowing moss recipe. Although the island's date is set to summer, this only affects the appearance; the fish, insects and sea creatures that spawn will be the same as the date on the player's home island. Since version 2.0.4 , sand paths will now appear around each coconut tree .

If the player has received a good belongings fortune from Katrina , the player will be sent to this island if the rare island the game rolls to has a date that the player has not experienced yet in-game.

Boat Tour Island (Vine) NH Map 1.png

Rare islands [ edit ]

Rare islands all have a single fixed layout for each island type.

Star Fragment [ edit ]

Boat Tour Island (Star Fragment) NH Map.png

Chance: 3.14%

Internal ID StarPiece

This island is always set to midnight when the player arrives, with a heavy meteor shower taking place. If the player wishes upon the shooting stars, star fragments will appear on their own island's beaches the following day. The message bottle that appears on the beach always contains a random star fragment recipe . The creatures that spawn are based on the current time, not the apparent night of the island. Vines also appear on this island.

The meteor shower on this island is heavier than what the player can ever experience on their own island, with an 80% chance of a shooting star appearing on any given minute instead of the usual 50%. There is then an equal chance for 5 stars or 8 stars to appear within that single minute.

There are some stars on the beach too, but they will be mostly star fragments .

The island can only be visited if the player has played the game on June 15 in the northern hemisphere, or December 15 in the southern hemisphere.

Rocks on this island will always drop only star fragments with the following distribution:

Cherry Blossom [ edit ]

Internal ID Sakura

This island is always experiencing the spring Cherry Blossom season , with all hardwood trees taking on soft pink petals and cherry-blossom petals floating in the air that can be caught with a net . The message bottle that appears on the beach always contains a random recipe from the Cherry Blossoms Series .

The island can only be visited if the player has played the game between April 1 and 10 in the northern hemisphere, or October 1 and 10 in the southern hemisphere.

Spring Bamboo [ edit ]

Internal ID SpringBamboo

This island is always experiencing spring and contains bamboo , which can drop young spring bamboo when struck with an axe . The message bottle that appears on the beach contains a random recipe from the Bamboo Series .

The island can only be visited if the player has played the game between February 25 and May 31 in the northern hemisphere, or August 25 and November 30 in the southern hemisphere.

Summer Shell [ edit ]
