You might be thinking that a narrative isn’t quite worth the steep price tags. We can’t help but agree with that. But, you only help your own cause as a smart shopper if you know a little bit more about a shoe. Today’s internet capabilities make it incredibly easy to find performance reviews or on-feet pictures online.

Air Jordan 4 Motorsport Background

The Jordan Motorsport 4’s are a bit unique in their story. The fact that they even exist is surprisingly removed from an actual basketball court. The whole notion of this Air Jordan 4 Motorsport colorway comes from a passion that MJ seldom shares.

Since his early days in the league, the greatest basketball player of all time is also a big fan of motorsports. His particular liking for fast bikes worries early stakeholders – team general managers, Nike executives, etc. – so Michael tones it down a bit. Every now and then, he took time from being a global hoops fascination to get on a bike and ride for a while.

His love overtakes his sense of caution in 2004. This is when Jordan gets into contact with a racing team manager by the name of Pete Mauhar. His goal was simple – put a racing team together as quickly as possible and prep them to compete.

The Challenge

The usual line here would be, “there was just one problem..” As it turns out, there are a lot of problems with this initial request. Jordan picks a woeful time to take on this project. The racing season is rearing to get into high gear and most riders have commitments. Still, Mauhar is up to the challenge.

Somehow, he pulls together a team of riders, engineers, and maintenance pros. Making this accomplishment all the more impressive is the fact that it comes together in the span of five weeks. For context, putting together a racing team normally takes a full year of steady work.

After this is done, Jordan turns to Nike’s Mark Smith to kit the team out in Jordan wears. Smith no doubt takes a minute to absorb the fact that the GOAT is putting together a racing team. But, he quickly moves right along and gets to work.

Jordan knows what he’s doing when he picks Smith for the job. This is a man who leads his design efforts with Nike through practical visual narrative . Consequently, he focuses in on creating a look that fits in with the specific task at hand. No hype, no marketing, just gear that is fitting for a racing team.

After some serious work, Smith, and Nike put together a competent array of uniforms and even some bike designs. The results include a wide selection of visuals and pragmatic approaches. For our purposes, the most important of those is the accompanying sneaker: the Air Jordan 4 Motorsport. There are a few elements that are particularly striking about this shoe.

The upper on this OG look is perhaps the most interesting element. The Air Jordan 4 Motorsport comes in what should be a standard leather upper. The White base takes on accents of Black, Grey, and Blue. These contrasts really pop on that neutral tonal upper.

Details such as a thick leather tongue and plush inner linings add some heft and support as well. Focusing on the upper, it’s likely going down as the most interesting aspect of this shoe. The Air Jordan 4 Motorsport comes with a base material that is, for lack of a better word, underwhelming.

The stitch detailing seems misplaced and the actual construction feels more synthetic than OG leathers. Though it’s difficult to see this issue via pics of the Jordan 4 Motorsport on feet, there’s another way. You never really know how good or bad something is until there’s a competent comparison. The quality here is drastically different, featuring a Black base upper in a premium tumbled leather. Both the look and feel of this build represents something closer to the ideal Air Jordan 4 Motorsport release. Knowing this, the choice still comes down to what you value more.

The OG Air Jordan 4 Motorsport comes with a more narrative punch than any real quality. The Alternate edition features less of a story connection and more physical in-your-hand value. You might well lean strongly in either direction, but one thing’s for sure: it’s always good to know as much about the Jordan Sneakers or shoes you’re wearing as possible!

Better Air Jordan 4: “Military Blue” or “Motorsports”

Tinker Hatfield designed the Air Jordan 4 back in 1989, the second Air Jordan model from the legendary Nike designer. Today, we take a look back at both the “Military Blue” and “Motorsports” colorways.

The Air Jordan 4 “Military Blue” was one of the four original colorways from 1989, which was last released back in August 2012. It features a White leather base with Military Blue contrasting accents and Natural Grey detailing. Unlike the original, this 2012 pair returned with Jumpman branding instead of Nike Air on the heels.

Release back in 2017, the Air Jordan 4 “Motorsports” was modeled after the extremely limited pair that was gifted to the 16 members of Michael Jordan’s motorcycle racing team back in 2006. Unlike its predecessor, this pair doesn’t include the Mars Blackmon graphic on the lateral heel.

Air Jordan 4 'Rare Air' added to 2025 release lineup

The newest "Rare Air" edition of the Jordan 4 is on the way.

Coinciding with the massive rise in demand for OG Air Jordan silhouettes, the sneaker giant will continue to expand its release calendar with another historically popular drop. The Jordan 4 was an iconic look for Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan and the famed design remains a favorite among sneakerheads to this day. Come 2025, we'll see an updated “Rare Air” look on the Air Jordan 4.

The Air Jordan 4 was first released in 1989 and to this day, it's considered one of the top three most popular Air Jordan designs of all time. The sneakers are most known for their original “ Bred ,” “Military Blue,” “White Cement,” and “Fire Red” colorways. Throughout the years, we've also seen the Jordan 4 lay host to incredibly rare collaborations including names likes KAWS , Eminem , and most recently Nike SB.

However, we've seen previous “Rare Air” colorways drop like the “ Laser ” editions and the “ Tour Yellow ” colorway as well. For 2025, we'll see an all-new Rare Air iteration as a mash-up of some classic colorways.

Air Jordan 4 “Rare Air”

The newest Rare Air offering from the Air Jordan 4 features a similar mismatch, color-blocking scheme to the “What The” Jordan 4 SP released back in 2019 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the model's release. This time around, we'll see the shoes take a primarily black base with a contrasting grey mudguard along the toe. We see hits of the Fire Red color throughout the the midsole/outsole portion is reminiscent of the “Bred” colorway.

We also see references to the “ Military Blue ” colorway that was recently released with the hits of blue along the midsole, heel tab, and sockliner. Finer details include a return to the original Nike Air inscription on the heel along with a removable velcro logo tab along the tongue, reading “Jordan Rare Air.” All in all, these shape up to be a premium first-time release within the Jordan 4 line and we're already seeing the hype grow slowly behind this colorway.

The Air Jordan 4 “Rare Air” colorway hasn't seen an official release date as of yet, but various sneaker sources have linked these to returning in the early months of 2025. The official style code will read  Black/Deep Royal Blue-Dark Smoke Grey-Fire Red  and the shoes are expected to come with a retail price tag of $225, marking these as a premium release from typical general drops.

4 NFL Longhorns Cut; Jordan Whittington Earns Roster Spot

The business of the National Football League was not kind on Tuesday to many players who were asked to go see the head coach and to bring their playbook. For some, adversity brings opportunity and another door will open. For some, this will be the last time they step on a football field or strap on a helmet.

Four Texas Longhorns are hoping their fate changes on Wednesday as they were cut on Tuesday. Some players will have to wait and see if they get claimed on waivers, while some are going to be calling their agents looking to see what can happen next.

Lil'Jordan Humphrey left Texas as a much-heralded wide receiver. The Denver Broncos waived two wide receivers on Tuesday as teams cut down to 53. Humphrey, unfortunately, could not escape the Turk. He played in 41 games for the Broncos and caught 31 passes for 477 yards and six scores.

Humphrey is a candidate to make the Broncos 16-member practice squad. He will not know about that until such time the scouts and the coaches get together and see who is worthy of a second chance.

The Cleveland Browns said goodbye to running back D'Onta Foreman , another Longhorn alum who was relieved of his job on Tuesday. Freeman appeared in 52 games and totaled 2326 yards on 552 carries and scored 14 touchdowns.

Collin Johnson was cut by the Chicago Bears. The wide receiver was a fifth-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. He appeared in 29 games, with 30 receptions and two scores.

The final member of the Longhorn family to get cut was Caden Sterns . Sterns was cut by the Philadelphia Eagles. The safety broke into the league as a fifth-round draft choice of the Denver Broncos in 2021.

It wasn't all clouds and rain for the Longhorns on Tuesday as four players survived. Jordan Whittington, Jaylan Ford, Sam Ehlinger , and Moro Ojomo all made their respective rosters.

Ehlinger has been a member of the Indianapolis Colts since 2021. He will serve as the third-string quarterback behind Anthony Richardson and journeyman Joe Flacco.
