(Deutsche Version unten) I'm such a lucky lad. Looking for a sailboat to rent I happened to come across Frans Sytsma, the owner of @Sail yachting. My intentions were to find a good, safe and clean sailing yacht but I've got something completely different, i.e. a perfect maintained sailing vessel together with Frans' readiness to reply to all our needs, issues and questions around the hour. That makes the difference people! I would describe his level of attention in one word; Meticulous! He and his team distinguish himself by offering the best service you may require. Are you searching for a Sailing or motor Yacht in the Netherlands? Then I strongly recommend to book here and indulge yourself with the willingness of the @sail yachting crew to make your time the best in your life. (really I'm NOT exaggerating) Ich bin so ein Glückspilz. Auf der suche nach einem Segelschiff zur miete, bin ich zufällig auf Frans Sytsma gestoßen, der Inhaber des Segelboot Charter @Sail yachting. Mein Ziel war es; ein sicheres, sauberes, gutes Segelschiff zu finden aber es kam komplett anders. d.H. ein perfekt gewartetes Segelschiff nebst Frans' Bereitschaft alle unsere Anliegen, Fragen und andere Themen, "rund" um die Uhr zu beantworten. DAS! macht den Unterschied Leute! Ich möchte sein Niveau / Level an Aufmerksamkeit, in einem Wort zusammenfassen: Einwandfrei. Er und sein Team charakterisieren sich durch den besten Service den man sich wünschen kann. Wenn Sie ein Segel- oder Motorboot in Holland suchen, dann empfehle ich ihnen sehr hier zu buchen und sich selbst zu verwöhnen mit der Bereitschaft der @Sailyachting Crew um es zu der besten Zeit ihres Lebens zu machen. (Wirklich, ich übertreibe es nicht).

Sailing Workum

Workum is a beautiful town in the southwest of Friesland. The city has been of great historical significance as a link between the Friesian lakes and the former Zuyderzee. Workum has had city rights since 1399; it gained its wealth from shipbuilding and windmill industry. Part of Workum is a conservation area, with dozens of listed buildings; the real gems are the 300 year old shipyard and the historical lighthouse. More noteworthy attractions are the Warkums Erfskip (heritage) Museum in the former weighing house, and the late-gothic Saint Gertrude church.

Sailing trip to Workum

Workum has been one of Egasail’s favourite destinations for years. From our home port in Monnickendam we set a course for the IJsselmeer with our sailing charter Orion. From the coast of the IJsselmeer we sail through the Soal channel to the Workum Lock, where we can either moor for the night or go on through the town centre. We can also continue our trip further north to the Gaastmeer lake after visiting Workum.

Rental of a vessel with no experience in flat-bottomed sailing? No problem!  Sailing courses , maneuvring courses and sailing tuition are part of our charter programme. For new charter customers, training is mandatory or proof of experience.

Stoere boot met goede zeileigenschappen die veel spierballen nodig heeft Het is een stoer schip dat goede zeileigenschappen heeft. Echter alles gaat handmatig. Een aantal krachtige vrouwen of mannen heb je wel nodig. Jammer dat je niet buiten aan tafel kan eten. De banken aan de bun zitten vast, zodat je met de rug naar elkaar met een bord op schoot eet. Dat vonden wij echt een tegenvaller. De eigenaar mag de best bereikbare kasten leeghalen. Er is een Nespresso apparaat aan boord. Dit staat niet op de inventarislijst. Pas op werkt alleen als je aan de walstroom ligt. 2,5 Joost

Segeln pur in schöner Atmosphäre Eine Woche waren wir unterwegs bis Amsterdam und zurück. Ein schönes großes Schiff mit dem man auch sportliche Segeln kann. Läuft super unter Segel und Motor. Wir waren zu sechs Seglern. Das war genau richtig. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt an Bord. Zur Bedienung der Wadwaai braucht man aber ein bißchen men- bzw. Frauenpower. Mit ein wenig Übung klappt’s dann aber sehr gut mit dem setzen der Segel und Schwerter. Es hat viel Spaß gemacht. Zum Service der gesamten Crew um Michael können wir... 4,8 Martin

Perfecte vakantie op de Wiede Weerga De Wiede Weerga is een perfect onderhouden schip en van alle gemakken voorzien. De service van Sailcharter Workum was ook zeer welkom en relaxed. Wij hebben 10 dagen lang gezeild waarvan het overgrote deel op het Wad. De GPS plotter in de kuip is dan ontzettend handig. De boot zeilt prima aan de wind en ook de motor heeft voldoende vermogen. Het bed voorin is ontzettend ruim als je met de driehoek de volledige grootte benut. We hebben een weekend een bevriend stel op bezoek gehad, en zij sliepen op de... 5,0 Gijs

'Lemsteraak Juffrouw Ooievaer' Die 'Lemsteraak Juffrouw Ooievaer' hat uns wirklich Spaß gemacht! Das Handling war, nach ein wenig Eingewöhnung, sehr gut. Bugstrahlruder und Kamerasicht aus dem Mast sind sehr gute Hilfsmittel. Spaß hat auch das fahren unter Segeln gemacht. Das Schiff läuft im Vergleich (also mit nach meiner Erfahrung... habe bislang fünf Lemsteraaken gesegelt) sehr gut am Wind. Leider hatten wir nur wenig davon, was einige Touren unter Motor erforderlich gemacht hat. Dieser hat einwandfrei funktioniert und war... 5,0 Jo

Fijne dag op De Bellefleur Wij zijn helemaal tevreden over ons dagje IJsselmeer met de Bellefleur. We hadden een kapitein die heel goed aanvoelde wat ik met mijn gezin (7 volwassenen) wilden doen: zeilen. Helaas viel de wind wat tegen maar zowel de boot als de kapitein waren geweldig. 4,3 Gert

Mooi compleet uitgeruste lemsteraak Netjes en compleet uitgerust schip met goeie zeil eigenschappen, onderweg veel positieve reacties gehad over de Leazytails( vangnet grootzeil). We misten alleen een klaptafel in de achterkuip ( en daarbij een paar fijne zitkussens) 4,8 Sander krikke

prima goede ontvangst, afleveren ook duidelijk en ontspannen schip (Dorothee) goede grootte voor 4 personen, ook als we verwaaid lagen vaart goed 4,5 Wil Walvis

Kleddernat, winderig, maar heerlijk Tussen de buien door was het lekker droog en waaide het stevig door. Super om dan op zo’n topschip als de Blauwe Heks te zitten. Loopt als een trein, beweegt soepel door de forse zeegang heen en zeilvoering is gemakkelijk en snel aan de omstandigheden aan te passen. Goed anker ook. Fijn als het ‘s nachts hoogwater is en fors waait. 5,0 Olivier

Vakantie met de Bellefleur Mooi schip wat vele bewonderende reacties van mede watersporters oplevert. Compleet uitgerust en met de easy sailing configuratie ook met kleine bemanning goed te varen. 4,5 Cees

Wundervoller Urlaub auf dem Watt Wir, eine Familie mit 2 Kindern, hatten eine ganz tolle Zeit auf diesem urigen, klassischen Boot. Die Fahrt auf der Waddenzee, wo man beim Trockenfallen die Gezeiten direkt erleben kann, war ein ganz besonderes Erlebnis, was auch die Kinder sehr begeistert hat. Sie konnten im Matsch spielen, den Meeresboden erforschen und das Boot von unten angucken. Als das Wasser da war, haben uns auch ein paar Robben besucht. Discover seven treasures of Workum

The Jopie Huisman Museum is dedicated to the life and works of the Frisian master painter, Jopie Huisman. His body of work very much reflects the human touch. We can recognise his love of nature, his compassion and also his capacity to add value to minor, modest and discarded objects. Jopie was also known as a narrator of amusing anecdotes, often a little embellished. Jopie transports you into his world and lets you share his passions.

The lions that have graced the coat of arms of Workum for many centuries, played a leading role in this fountain, one of the 11Fountains project. While the city arms lions are intended to be awe-inspiring, the artist has given these beasts a healthy dose of British humour. Like playful cats, they form a heart of water through which you can see the city, while they roar: “Look at our city.”

The beautiful Market Square 'De Merk' in Workum - where you'll also find the Waag weighing house and the old City Hall - is home to the largest late-Gothic church of Friesland. Here, you'll find a unique collection of decorative funeral biers. This church welcomes thousands of tourists each year, attracted by these intriguing funeral biers used for transport of coffins during the funeral. The decorative painting or lack thereof says a great deal about long-forgotten lives.

Experience Workum from the Waag and discover the history of this Eleven Cities town. Using models and stories, you will discover everything about Workum. In the attic, you can take a trip through time with old letters from Huijte Fookles, a Workumer skipper.

Alongside the sea lock in Workum, you'll find the Blazerhaven, a museum harbour filled with original sailing fishing boats dating from the first half of the previous century. A beautiful and photogenic spot to visit.

Along the Noard, you can admire beautiful well-preserved facades. The 'Sleeswijckhuis' building at number 5 is often photographed because of its unique combination of stepped gable and gable arrangement with pilasters.

The forerunner of public transport was the horse-drawn barge. As early as 1620, a waterway was dug between Bolsward and Workum to transport people from one town to the other by barge. By means of horsepower, the barge could always sail and was not dependent on the wind. A horse stable stood at both ends of the Trekweg near the inn. The gable stone refers to this time.

What you really shouldn’t miss in Workum

The 'strontrace' is the main annual event in Workum. It centres around the historic ships that must sail to Warmond, transporting a bag of manure as quickly as possible. The so-called strontweek ('stront' is Dutch for manure) also includes many different activities, some of which you can join in. Race one of the sailing ships over the dike to the IJsselmeer lake, step on board the Beurtveer ferryboat, visit the fishing days, sail a model boat, and much more!

Jopie Huisman Museum

The Jopie Huisman Museum is dedicated to the work and life of the Frisian self-taught master painter Jopie Huisman. The human dimension is the common thread in his oeuvre. You can see his love for nature, his compassion and also his ability to give value to the small, modest and discarded. Jopie was also known as a narrator of tasty anecdotes, often exaggerated. Jopie takes you into his world and makes you share in his passions.

A city with a real beach

The beach at Workum, also called It Soal, can be found about 3.5 kilometers from the center of Workum. This beach is ideal for a day with the family. The water is shallow, so children can play safely. This beach is also very popular with water sports enthusiasts because of the shallow water and the wind always blows favorably. The perfect conditions to master kiting. You often see these colorful kites above the IJsselmeer, and that image alone is worth a visit.

Rigging and sails

The great importance to you as a sailor is the state of maintenance of the rigging and sails. After all, it is the silent engine of your yacht. What we can do for you in this is the following:

• Checking the mast for cracks, corrosion, attachment of fittings, lighting, antennas, givers
• Replace of standing and running rigging in the material you prefer
• Checking the operation and connection of the radar or replacing it
• Replacement of stays, tensioners, shoulder bolts, split pins, puttings
• Checking and washing of the running riggings

Maintenance of the sails

What we can do for you in the field of maintaining your sails is to advise you on: • cleaning the sails • repair of the stitching • purchase of new sails We can advise you on the type of sail that suits your sailing behavior and yacht. When we are together, we can guide you through the purchase. We order the sails and ensure that the sail maker delivers the right product and make agreements when the sail is delivered.

We work together with, among others: • De Vries Zeilmakerij in Makkum • North Sails in Almere • Elvstrom Sails in Bruinisse

We can also advise you on the purchase of a pipe cap, cockpit cover, hood, maindrop system, roll sleeve cover and mast collar. A lot is possible in terms of material and colour.

We can take care of everything for your rigging. You can think of: • the replacement of wear parts and lines • increase comfort such as the installation of electric winches • mounting furlers or electrical furlers • refit of the mast and boom • spraying mast and boom

In short, we do it ourselves or we arrange it for you.

We can also relieve you when it comes to the maintenance of your sailing wardrobe through good advice and guidance.

Every sailing yacht has winches and they need maintenance as well. We can take care of this for you. We dismantle and assemble the winches, clean the interior and re-grease the winches. You can have your winches converted to electric winches or have them weighted. We are happy to advise you and indicate what the options are.

Based on this we can calculate what type of winch and chain you need. We can deliver and assemble a new winch. This is possible with or without a remote control. Die Heimatbasis von @Sail Yachting in Workum ist der ideale Ausgangspunkt für Ihren Segelurlaub.

Unsere Schiffe liegen direkt am Kanal, so dass Sie sofort nach dem Einsteigen die Segel setzen können.

Nur 5 Minuten vom Ijsselmeer und ebenfalls 5 Minuten von der Schleuse zu den friesischen Binnengewässern entfernt, brauchen Sie keine Zeit zu verlieren.

Außerdem sind es nur 7 Meilen bis zu den Schleusen von Kornwerderzand , was in der Praxis eine Fahrt von 1 bis 2 Stunden bedeutet. Dann sind Sie bereit für die Überfahrt zu einer der Watteninseln.

Es ist sogar möglich, von unserer Basis aus mehrere waddeninseln an einem Wochenende zu besuchen und trotzdem rechtzeitig zurück zu sein, um das Schiff zurückzubringen.

Bei Ihrer Rückkehr können Sie das Schiff am Kai auftanken und wir können Ihnen helfen, in der Box festzumachen, wenn es viel Wind gibt.

The event is held from Aquaresort It Soal, Suderseleane 29 in Workum.

The United 4 Sailing in Workum will take place on 27 and 28 April 2024. We’ll update the information on this page when needed.

All boats must be parked in the designated areas. You can find a map of the Regatta Area here .

Yachts For non-committee ships, the passant rate of marina It Soal will be charged. Click here for the rates & conditions in the marina (in Dutch, but understandable for foreign speakers) Mooring along the channel only for committee ships, which get a flag so that they are recognizable as such.

Race Area Workum

To the Regatta Area Everyone goes via the barrier of Camping It Soal to the Regatta Area. Only registered cars can access the campsite. If you stay at the campsite, the car will be registered for free upon registration at the reception. If you stay elsewhere, you can register the car for a fee of Euro 5.00 for the entire weekend. Traffic rules Aqua Resort It Soal You can not drive faster than 10 km/h on the campsite. In case of violation of this rule, the site manager can withdraw the registration of the car. You will then no longer have access to the campsite. This also applies to the following weekends.

People who stay overnight at Camping It Soal (tent, caravan/camper or rented bungalette) need to go to the reception first. Camping on the green area adjacent to the beach, see map, (tent, caravan / camper) costs EUR 26.00 per tent/caravan/camper per night, plus tourist tax EUR 1.25 per person per night, to be paid in advance preferably when booking. There are no power supplies for camping on this green strip. For camping on one of the fields with electricity, the regular overnight rate is calculated, to be paid in advance when booking.

To solve the long wait for the barrier, we ask you the following:

• when booking a bungalow, caravan, camping site at the campsite or at the point, immediately submit a registration number so that the car can be registered at It Soal
• payment in advance, after which you will receive your house number or camping site from It Soal
• Your license plate is scanned and gives you access (if full payment has been received)
• go through the barrier on arrival and drive to your place. In the case of a bungalow or caravan, let one of the passengers pick up the key and drive on.
• In all other cases do not continue until the barrier. This causes serious delay.
• For the people who still have to be at the desk, there is a stop for short-term parking or one is referred to a separate parking place by a traffic controller.
• For day visitors and also for ‘drop-off and pick-up sailors’ there will be someone at the barrier with cards of EUR 5.00. (valid all weekend)
• Drive off the dike at peak times (Friday evening and Saturday morning).

Reception opening hours and barriers The reception is open until 23:00 on Fridays, on Saturdays from 07:00 to 19:00 and on Sundays from 08:00 to 19:00. Both barriers open and close only for registered cars from 7 am to 11 pm.

Stad nr. 7: Workum – Het gezelligste en grootste museum van Friesland

Haven-, handels- en ambachtenstad Workum is één van de jongste Friese Elfsteden, maar gezien de tientallen historische gebouwen in de langgerekte kern zou je denken dat het de oudste is. Het kreeg pas stadsrechten in 1399, terwijl het nabijgelegen en veel kleinere Stavoren, ook een havenplaats aan de Zuiderzee, ze al in 1118 had.

De Waag – Workum

Evenals twee andere Elfsteden, Hindeloopen en IJlst, is Workum nooit een echte vesting is geweest. Versterkingen in de vorm van wallen en bastions, zoals de kleinste Elfsteden-stad, Sloten, heeft het nooit gekend. Maar Workum heeft zich wel ontpopt als een stad van betekenis met de bijbehorende rijkdom, te zien op de Merk, het centrale en zeer gezellige marktplein, It Súd en It Noard. Zelfs één van de roemruchte scheepshellingen, de meer dan 300 jaar oude scheepswerf ‘De Hoop’, is bewaard gebleven. Er worden nog steeds houten schepen gebouwd en gerestaureerd, nabij een stadshaven vol nautisch erfgoed.  

Strontrace Wie de sfeer van Fries-Hollandse zeilvrachtvaart van een tot twee eeuwen geleden echt wil beleven, moet bij de start- en finish van de Strontrace zijn, jaarlijks in oktober, vlakbij de werf. Bezoek de website www.zeilvaartcollegeworkum.nl voor actuele data. De Strontrace is een regatta met klassieke zeilschepen met gedroogde koemest aan boord. Ze zeilen en bomen van Workum naar Warmond in Zuid-Holland, via Amsterdam, en weer terug. De competitie herinnert aan Workumer schippers die tot 1950 ieder voorjaar, als de boeren in Friesland hun stallen uitmestten, met 150 tjalken en klippers (laadvermogen 100 tot 160 ton) stinkende natte koemest naar de onvruchtbare duinzandgronden van Warmond, Hillegom en Lisse brachten. Daar, rond het huidige attractiepark De Keukenhof, kon dankzij de mest van Friese boeren en Workumer vrachtvaarders de Bollenstreek, het land van de Hollandse tulpen, tot bloei komen.

Leven van en op de zee Handel en zeevaart brachten Workum vanaf de 13e eeuw welvaart, mede doordat andere Friese steden in de loop der eeuwen hun open verbinding met de zee verloren. Workum lag niet direct aan zee, maar had via de twee kilometer lange gegraven waterweg It Soal een verbinding met de Zuiderzee. Die zee heet sinds de aanleg van de Afsluitdijk in 1932 IJsselmeer. Landinwaarts had Workum een connectie met de Friese meren, vroeger heel belangrijk vanwege het ontbreken van goede landwegen in Friesland.  

Workum had ooit een grote vissersvloot, net als de andere Zuiderzeehavens Lemmer en Makkum. Veel Workumer vissers waren tussen 1800 en 1900 ook actief op het terrein van de palinghandel op London, evenals inwoners van het nabijgelegen dorp Heeg ten zuiden van Sneek. Duizenden tonnen Friese paling gingen naar Engeland, maar omstreeks 1900 was het einde verhaal. In 1907 verkocht de laatste Workumer palinghandelaar zijn onderneming.  

Gedempte vaart Workum is ontstaan langs de gegraven waterwegen Wymerts en Dolte. De meeste en mooiste woningen werden langs de kaden van de Wymerts gebouwd, waardoor de stad een langgerekte vorm kreeg. In 1785 werd de Wymerts gedempt en zo ontstonden de twee belangrijkste ambachten- en winkelstraten in elkanders verlengde: It Noard en It Súd, Fries voor het noorden en het zuiden. De oudste panden, die dus ooit aan een waterweg lagen, hebben prachtige pronkgevels, façaden met een verhaal. Ook na 1800, toen de zeevaart sterk terugliep door het verzanden van de haven, verging het de Workumers nog aardig. Dat blijkt uit het feit dat aan It Súd fraaie 19e eeuwse woningen werden gebouwd.

Workumer aardewerk In het museum Warkums Erfskip, dat gevestigd is in de Waag aan de Merk, is een grote collectie origineel Workumer aardewerk van Aardewerkfabriek R.F. de Boer te zien. Eind 2005 stopte pottenbakker Rintje Freerks de Boer met het maken van dit typische aardewerk, roodbruin van kleur met ringeloorversiering. Hij was de laatste telg uit een pottenbakkersgeslacht dat sinds ongeveer 1670 in Workum allerlei soorten gebruiksaardewerk produceerde, ook draineerbuizen en roodstenen bloempotten en kerfsneeaardewerk. Workum telt nog enkele aardewerkateliers, onder ander in en achter restaurant It Pottebakkershûs aan de Merk, waar belangstellenden kunnen zien hoe de oude technieken nog toegepast worden. Er is ook tentoonstelling van Workumer aardewerk in het restaurant.  

Jopie Huisman, de Rembrandt van Friesland Een “must” als je in Workum bent: een bezoek brengen aan het Jopie Huisman Museum aan It Noard met de werken van in 2000 overleden handelaar in oude metalen en kleding én kunstenaar Jopie Huisman. Je hoeft geen kunstkenner te zijn om onder de indruk te raken van de werken en de kleurrijke levensfilosofie van de Friese autodidacte schilder. De wereldberoemde kunstschilder Rembrandt van Rijn zou, als Jopie 400 jaar geleden leefde, zonder twijfel gefascineerd zijn geweest door diens artistieke prestaties. Die zijn ongelofelijk! En wie helemaal niet van kunst houdt, maar wel van een sappige weergave van een leven te midden van rommel en natuur, aparte mensen en cultuur, ook die zal zeer voldaan terugkeren van een bezoek aan zijn museum. Het kunsthuis verzamelt, bewaart en exposeert tekeningen, schilderijen en inspiratiebronnen van de schilder die in Friesland leefde van 1922 tot 2000. Het kunstdomein biedt ook een royale kijk in het boeiende leven van de hartelijke schilder die zich vastklampte aan zijn zelfgedraaide sigaret, humor, kunst, muziek, sterke verhalen en streken van — vaak beroemde — vrienden. Neem de tijd, voor hem en Workum, anders zult u gegarandeerd ogen en oren tekort komen!
