When Captain Jason Chambers set sail for Peacock’s Below Deck Down Under Season 2 , he was in somewhat unchartered territory. Filmed at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef in the stunning waters of Cairns, Australia, the latest season welcomed guests aboard the M/Y Northern Sun , a Japanese superyacht that was unlike any vessel he’d ever captained in the past. “ Northern Sun is a 1977 Japanese fishing vessel that’s been converted to a luxury superyacht,” Captain Jason explains in the Season 2 premiere. “It’s the perfect vessel because, this season, we’re in Cairns, right at the foothills of the most spectacular underwater scenery you’ll ever see. It’s adventure yachting, and it’s perfect for exploration.”

You don’t have to sign up for a reality TV show to visit the 50.8-meter-long Northern Sun, though. The yacht, which began as an ice-class research vessel that analyzed marine life and ocean currents in the North Japan Sea, is currently listed with a weekly charter starting cost of $161,700 and an asking price of $15 million. Able to accommodate 12 guests in 6 staterooms, Northern Sun includes such luxury amenities as al fresco dining, an outdoor jacuzzi, and a two-deck-high inflatable water slide, as well as a range of water-sport toys, allowing guests the opportunity to go scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, water skiing, and more, while exploring Thailand and surrounding areas.

In a July interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish, Chief Stew Aesha Scott explained why Northern Sun made Season 2 “completely different ” in allowing guests to have one-of-a-kind experiences. “The boat was smaller, it was more manageable,” she said, comparing the vessel to M/Y Thalassa BDDU ’s inaugural season. “The boat this year was a converted fishing vessel, and for me it was just so much better because Thalassa was outrageous how big it was. That was part of the stress was that it was just so big ... We’re still offering the guests a really nice five-star experience.”

Northern Sun’s laid-back feel also played a key role in Season 2. “I think altogether that it’s just kind of created a more tropical, casual kind of vibe, which I actually think was a real positive thing because the guests were just so relaxed,” Aesha added. “And [they] just got up to such mischief — which was funny most of the time. Sometimes it was annoying, but most of the time it was funny.”

Captain Jason, for his part, shared in a separate interview with the outlet that the latest installment of the original Bravo franchise flew by, either way. “I walked onto the boat, said ‘What the hell is going on?’” he joked. “And then the season ended.”

Northern Star Description

Come aboard and experience the luxury of Northern Star. This 76´ (23m) modern cutter-rigged sloop was designed by Ocke Mannerfelt and handcrafted by the Hinckley Company in 1993 with a traditional old world aesthetic that features teak decking, beautiful butterfly hatches and custom mahogany interiors throughout. With her graceful overhangs and elegant sheerline, she combines state-of-the-art performance, power, and control to create a truly modern and timeless classic. Northern Star is one of the finest yachts in the world and with her carbon furling mast and hydraulic winches, she offers true single-handed capacity underway and an experience steeped in the rich traditions of sailing the open seas. A 2014 refit included new luxury soft furnishings and bed linens, new table ware, fresh exterior varnish, all brass refinished and all systems checked and serviced. NORTHERN STAR accommodates 6 guests in three cabins. The interior is fully air-conditioned and headroom is 8´ to 6´ throughout The spacious Master Suite is forward with a king v-berth, hanging locker and private head with a separate stall shower. There is also a comfortable seat and a writing desk on the starboard side. A center hallway runs aft to the salon. Aft and to port of the master stateroom is an elegant VIP Suite that was originally planned for the King and Queen of Norway who frequented the yacht. This cabin is an intimate oasis featuring his and her twins, ample storage and a private head with a stall shower. Also aft of the master on the port side is a common head with shower. On the starboard side are two well-appointed guest cabins, each with over and under single berths, a bureau and hanging locker. These two cabins share the common head and shower. Built by Lurssen in 2009 and refitted in 2022, luxury yacht HUNTRESS (Ex Bella Vita, Northern Star) is a 76m/248ft vessel that features the exterior styling of Espen Oeino while the interiors were completed by Pauline Nunns. M/Y HUNTRESS has a number of accolades to her name, earned from her excellent internal and external layout, naval architecture and facilities.

For guests arriving by tender, the main deck aft will be the first sight that greets them, and a wide swim platform connects to a broad stairway which in turn leads up to the alfresco lounge shaded by the upper deck overhang. The exterior seating is designed to make the most of the views, and the L-shaped sofas face outwards, while two coffee tables create the ideal setting for breakfast in the fresh air.

The upper deck is also known as the Owner's deck, and guests occupying this floor can choose to use it exclusively or share the space with the other guests. The upper deck aft contains the alfresco dining area which is designed to seat 12 guests in stately elegance with drinks available from the nearby bar. Along the stern, there is a surplus of seating arranged so that guests can break off into smaller groups for more personal conversations. The upper deck forward also features a Portuguese deck for an additional outdoor lounge that takes in the forward view. Down on the bow, the tenders are stored beneath a hatch and a winch crane for easy unloading and retrieval.

The bridge deck is fitted with a shaded aft spa pool and the area behind to the stern could be used for sun loungers, a helipad or as a place to party.

Up, on the sundeck, guests can admire their surroundings while lying back in the generous forward Jacuzzi or making use of the curving forward seating areas that can be used for alfresco dining or converted into sun pads. To the aft, there is plenty of room for exercise such as yoga.

The main deck salon is decorated using classic styling and contemporary colours for bold and sophisticated recreational areas. In the middle, there are two almost symmetrical seating areas on the port and starboard sides, and there is a grand piano for live entertainment. Forward of the salon, there is a spacious formal dining area that both adults and children will enjoy for its beautiful detailing and combination of pale and vibrant colours.

The forward area of the main deck is reserved for the majority of the guest accommodation, and on the starboard side, there is also a guest office and a massage room.

There are more amenities located on the lower deck and tank deck, with the former hosting a dive centre and sauna, and the latter an expansive cinema.

The upper deck can be shared by all guests or used exclusively by the occupants of the spacious Master stateroom located forward. The suite has separate his and hers bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes as well as a private office and bar. Towards the aft, the sky lounge is a cool environment filled with plush furnishings in white and blue. Opposite the seating, there is a forward fireplace, plus a games table and a bar.

To complete the incredible offerings aboard M/Y HUNTRESS, the bridge deck contains a fitness room with a comprehensive range of equipment, the helm and the captain's cabin.

The 2 x Diesel Caterpillar 268 engines produce a top speed of 18 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots.

Lürssen superyacht Northern Star sold

The 75.4 metre motor yacht Northern Star , listed for sale at Moran Yacht & Ship  has been sold in an in-house deal. She will now undergo an extensive summer refit to get her in prime condition for the Caribbean charter season.

Built by German yard  Lürssen  under Moran’s supervision and delivered in 2009 as an MCA-compliant explorer yacht, she features traditional exterior styling by  Espen Øino . Her voluminous interiors were created by British designer Pauline Nunns , and the style has been described as evocative of a grand country home. Accommodation is for 12 guests in six cabins, while the crew quarters allow for a total staff of up to 22.

Helicopter capable, she combines the luxury of a pedigree superyacht with the go-anywhere capabilities of an expedition yacht. Key on board features include a cinema, beauty salon and gym.  Northern Star  also boasts an ice-classed hull and a range of 6,000 nautical miles when cruising at 12 knots, allowing for extended expeditions without the need to restock.

Capacious outdoor spaces provide guests with a plethora of al fresco dining and relaxation options, both on the foredeck and the sundeck. Her main deck features a large dining area with seating for 14 people, while the amidships lounge features a piano and a fire place.

Tender storage is plentiful with a foredeck Jet Ski locker as well as a side-loading garage in the transom with room for two ten metre tenders. Power comes from a pair of Caterpillar engines for a top speed of 17 knots. Advanced sound and vibration insulation combine with the on-board stabilisation system to ensure a smooth cruising experience.

Her crew are happy to offer ONE WAY or TANDEM charters between other destinations too and on request. Thanks to her Yanmar 4LHA-DTP diesel super yacht engine totalling 1 x 200hp, during the right sea and wind conditions, she can reach maximum speeds of around 14kn. Accommodation

Private charter yacht NORTHERN STAR can accommodate up to 8 guests in 4 en-suite cabins. Cabin Configuration: - 1 x Master cabin with queen double - 1 x VIP double suite used by Norwegian Royal family - 2 x twin cabins with two single bunk beds There is also individual controlled air conditioning, SAT TV, iPhone dock, hair dryers, phone, and el. en-suite bathroom in each cabin. NORTHERN STAR is fully air conditioned throughout. Her super yacht crew of up to 3, have separate crew quarters with heads and showers and have their own companionway.

These include: - 1 x 2m/8’ inflatable dinghy with 30hp Tohatsu engine - 1 x 11’ / 3.5m Zodiac Mark 2 traditional clinker-built varnished rowing dinghy, - Paddle boards - Windsurfer, Kite Surfer, Kayaks, Canoes on request - Waterskis, Slalom skis, donut - Inflatable toys and beach toys - Snorkelling gear - Fishing gear - Diving Tank - Swim platform - At the moment - Rendezvous Diving only. ------------------------------------------- - Waverunner, Jet Ski’s, FlyJetBoard, Sea Bobs and other toys may be available on request. - Windsurf, Kayaks, SUP paddle boards, Mountain Bikes etc, may be offered on request - Floating pools, Superyacht Water slides, Waterparks could be arranged on request - Giant inflatable MANTA RAY - Inflatable raft, toys and water animals, Halyard flying, Spinnaker pole swinging all on request and if available - Cabanas, Trampolines, nets, balance beams, swings and slides or sea-rockers could be arranged on request - Submarine and Sub Aqua Toys, SeaBobs and other similar toys may be arranged on request - A massage therapist can be invited on board throughout the charter as well yet a guest cabin would have to be allocated.

‘Northern Star’ is a 248.03ft /75.6m expedition yacht built in 2009 by Lurssen. Her interior is by Pauline Nunns and her exterior styling is by Espen Oeino. She is a popular choice for your next charter vacation with friends or family.

Northern Star’s interior layout sleeps up to 12 guests in 6 rooms, including a master suite, 3 double cabins and 2 twin cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 22 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience. Each cabin is well appointed and offers the ideal place to rest after a long day of exploration. The designers have chosen furnishings that bring style and comfort, while the overall finish will also exceed expectation.

Designers have used a beautiful color range, including shades of coral, gold and cream in the communal areas on the main deck. The galley is located on the lower deck, freeing up main deck space.

You’ll find an array of leisure and entertainment facilities onboard, making her ideal for entertaining friends and family on your charter vacation. There’s lots of space for enjoying an alfresco lunch or dinner on deck, or simply lounging in the sunshine and working on your tan.

She has a cruising speed of 15 knots, and brings performance and style to any vacation.

This impressive yacht comes complete with a modern stabilization system to reduce roll motion even during rough seas, and the yacht also has ‘at anchor stabilizers’ to keep things smooth even at anchor/zero speed.
