Viking Yachts 64 Review

The Viking Yachts 64 sport-fishing boat making waves on the water.

Seventy 62-foot convertibles have been delivered by Viking—six of them were used as part of the company’s demo program on the national and international stage. The popular model was highly regarded for both speed and performance. They were well-equipped and raised fish, but replacing a winner is never easy. In the past two decades, Viking has designed and delivered 550 boats from 60 to 70 feet, and there is no doubt it owns this segment of the production boating market. The new 64 is true to form, and it refuses to live in any other’s shadow.

Viking’s mantra is to build a better boat every day —a philosophy fostered by co-founders Bill and Bob Healey. These days, the second and third generation of Healeys are taking the reins, and the commitment remains as steadfast and relentless as ever as the company’s shipwrights navigate into their 58th year of building state-of-the-art tournament contenders.

The cockpit and fighting chair of the Viking Yachts 64 sport-fishing boat.

The cockpit is ground zero for tournament fishing. With 180 square feet of usable space, every inch has purpose. A pressurized 90-gallon transom livewell keeps bait ready for action, and the mezzanine conceals a freezer, chiller box, and tackle and gear storage. A portside step can be outfitted to stockpile ice or utilize an electric grill. The flybridge overhang delivers spray and sun protection, and air conditioning provides a cool breeze on those breathless tropical days. Centerline finds a watertight lazarette, with an optional power actuator to access the Seakeeper 26 gyrostabilizer. Corner scuppers drain water quickly, and can also be plumbed if you choose to fish with removable livewells. Fixtures for raw and fresh water as well as quick-disconnect fittings for oil changes and filling the water tank are located beneath the coaming boards, along with both 12- and 24-volt outlets and portside and starboard-side storage lockers.

Engine Room

The Snow White Awlgrip-finished engine room is a uniform work of art. Entered through the mezzanine, headroom on the centerline is more than 6 feet, with a solid 26½ inches between the irons. A pair of 21.5 kW Onan gensets are situated aft of the engines for those who prefer redundancy, and the twin setup is flawless.

The aft bulkhead is lined with DC and Octoplex distribution panels, Mastervolt battery chargers and Dometic refrigeration. The oil-transfer system for the engines, transmissions, generators, bilge pumps and various seacocks are labeled in typical Viking fashion, and all hoses and wire-runs throughout the machinery space are chafe-protected, neat and secure. Forward finds a toolbox, AC units, and the Furuno Omni sonar tube. Movement outboard is virtually effortless, and the equipment is lined up in military precision. To port is the main switch for the Side-Power DC bow thruster controls and the ElectroSea Clearline growth-prevention system; to starboard, the Dometic-Spot Zero watermaker combo, Willy Vac and Headhunter freshwater pump are easily accessible. A Delta-T ventilation and water-suppression system supplies the engine room with clean, ambient airflow.

The interior salon of the Viking Yachts 64 sport-fishing boat.

The sheer volume of the 64’s wide beam invites an uncluttered view forward—accented with satin-finished horizontal grain walnut that adds dimension throughout the interior. An electrical panel at eye level provides convenient access to the ship’s systems, and an adjacent 50-inch high-definition television rises from the cabinetry opposite the L-shaped sofa that hides significant storage inside.

A dinette is situated to port, and the raised base conceals another one of the yacht’s storage areas. The peninsula-style galley and bar feature engineered-stone counters and a pair of stools. Top-notch appliances, ample storage and premium vinyl Amtico flooring are among the standard highlights; an island galley option is available for those who prefer it.

The master stateroom of the Viking Yachts 64 sport-fishing boat.

Below, the four-stateroom, three-head layout provides the same striking walnut joinery, comfort and privacy, including a walk-around bed in the master, a choice of forward stateroom accommodations, and even more storage. A companionway laundry center adds to the 64’s numerous amenities.

Viking’s popular center-console helm station ramps up style and practicalities with a newly designed black acrylic helm dash featuring three flush-mounted Seatronx touchscreen displays. The angle of the dash brings the screens closer to the skipper to shorten the reach, and the entire console has been raised for better access to the radio boxes that flank the teak helm pod. Two boxes in the fiberglass hardtop house additional electronics and displays, as well as a set of teaser reels. The controller for the Omni sonar stows beneath the helm and includes a remote for the operator.

Three Release Marine Trillion helm chairs provide comfort for those long offshore jaunts, with convenient fore and aft drink boxes. Port and starboard benches provide storage, while the forward lounge sits on top of a 76-gallon freezer—another nod to the boat’s long-range travel capability.

Performance and Construction

Off the coast of Palm Beach, Florida, with Capt. Ryan Higgins—Viking’s Southeast sales manager and 15-year demo veteran—at the wheel, the 64-footer ripped into a two-way average top speed of 42 knots burning 200 gph with a near-full load of fuel. In a 2- to 3-foot sea and 10- to 12-knot northeast breeze, the boat was smooth and chatter-free; the wake was crisp and well-defined. Viking’s design manager, David Wilson, explains some of the details of this new hull’s running surface: “The refinements include the chine angle of attack and a softer radius transitioning from the deadrise to the chine. We also slightly lowered the strakes in the bow for increased spray-deflection. Moving aft, the chines widen, and together with the strakes, they provide excellent lift. We also changed the shaft angle and the propeller-pocket diameter, length and entry for better water flow to the props, and to minimize draft.”

The helm and electronic displays of the Viking Yachts 64 sport-fishing boat.

As I took the helm, the tie-bar-free SeaStar Optimus steering connected me instinctively to every maneuver I made. Slipping along at 1,800 rpm, we were making 29 knots using 122 gallons of fuel for a range of 403 nautical miles, while a brisk 35 knots at 2,100 rpm burned 156 gph for a range of 385 nm.

The new Viking 64 utilizes the builder’s proprietary manufacturing processes, including a vinylester resin-infused fiberglass hull with composite coring material throughout, structural composite bulkheads and integrated, resin-infused tankage. Vertically unified from design to delivery, 90 percent of what goes into building a Viking 64 is manufactured at its facility in New Gretna, New Jersey, and the company subsidiaries—Atlantic Marine Electronics and Palm Beach Towers—help produce a turnkey product for a seamless build experience.

As Viking continues its head-down, nose-to-the-grindstone approach to the ever-evolving boating market, we are sure to see replacement models take hold. After all, as Abraham Lincoln once said: “The most reliable way to predict the future is to create it.”

Viking Yachts 64 Convertible

Most buyers of the Viking Yachts 64C are likely to be serious anglers, which is why the 180-square-foot cockpit is arranged for pelagic pursuits.

The cockpit’s uncluttered layout is the result of thousands of hours of experience aboard other Vikings in big-game tournaments around the globe. The 64C I got aboard had a leaning post/rod holder that bolted into an aluminum backing plate laminated in the cockpit sole, with double-hatch fish boxes on each side. Abaft that, a rounded teak cap rail held a livewell. Overlooking the whole scene was a mezzanine for crew to keep an eye on the spread, along with tackle stowage and a cold box. This 64C also had a Dometic ice machine on the port side for chilling down the fish boxes.

But great fishing setups aren’t the only thing Viking has experience building. Inside, the 64C has the same high-end fit-and-finish for which the brand has long been known.

The salon is accessed via electric sliders, and my first impression was one of volume, helped by the vessel’s nearly 19-foot beam. Not only did the side windows enhance this effect, but the straight passage to the guest staterooms allowed me to look unhindered from the cockpit to the forward VIP stateroom. Joinery was in walnut, with a choice of satin or high gloss, and the layout was simple, with an L-shaped settee to starboard around a walnut table. A pop-up 50-inch TV was to port.

Viking Yachts 64 Convertible

Forward was the galley, with a raised bar above stone counters, as well as two stools so guests could chat with the chef. To port was a settee (raised 10 inches) around a dining table (with rod stowage underneath) that allowed a panoramic view at rest or while fishing. The chef had enough counter space to handle a hungry crew, and six undercounter fridge drawers for stowage. With tournaments in mind, there was also a freezer under the flybridge sun pad.

While this sport-fishing yacht is just under 64 feet in length overall, it has three en suite staterooms and a crew cabin that could be used by a guest.

The master stateroom is amidships with a queen-size island berth that has an innerspring mattress and walk-around space. Full-height, maple-lined hanging lockers fill the after bulkhead; a locker with bureau shelves is forward; and the en suite head has a 3-foot-wide shower to rinse off the heat of a day spent fishing.

Going forward, the passage hides a full-size washer and dryer and ends at the VIP stateroom forward, also with an innerspring queen berth. This walk-around berth is high (40 inches), and there’s an en suite head that has an oversize (28-by-9-inch) shower. A hanging locker and four drawers under the berth handle guest clothing. An optional layout splits the berth space in this stateroom, so you get a double berth and a bunk for extra crew.

Viking Yachts 64 Convertible

Two more sleeping spaces are to port off the passage: a guest stateroom with twin berths, and a crew cabin with two bunks. The guest stateroom has the third en suite head with a shower. It serves as a day head and is used by the crew cabin. The crew spaces have the same fit-and-finish as the guest spaces.

The flybridge is reached via teak steps and reflects current Viking design thinking, with a streamlined console. A trio of Release ladder-back pedestal seats are abaft the black acrylic dash, with a trio of monitors and Bocatech switching. A drop-down overhead box has more electronics.

Three things stood out to me on the 64C’s bridge: the syrupy-smooth wood of the Palm Beach-style steering pod, with single-lever throttles on each side that make for easy control when facing aft; great visibility thanks to the lack of a Venturi windscreen forward; and hidden “glove boxes” with folding lids that conceal VHF radios and mics.

The fiberglass hardtop has a fold-down hatch to access the teaser reels, and the space is partially enclosed with hard side curtains. In each corner of the bridge are thoughtful amenities, including a sink and fridge. Molded into the helm console is a stretch-out lounge with armrests and a freezer underneath.

Viking also offers the 64C with an enclosed bridge, which moves the helm forward and creates an aerie with salon seating, stairs from the interior and a docking station on the aft deck.

Viking Yachts 64 Convertible

Down below and aft, the engine room is accessed via a hatch in the cockpit, with a ladder providing access to all the systems, including a 21 kW Onan genset. There is 6-foot headroom and space between and abaft the diesels for service. Owners and service techs should have no problem with daily checks or repairs. Viking finishes the 64C’s bilge in snow-white Awlgrip, a durable urethane. Batteries are in custom fiberglass storage boxes, and a pair of battery chargers should keep them topped off.

The Seakeeper 26 is accessed through a lazarette hatch, which also leads to the pumps, steering and tabs.

A variety of power options including MAN, Caterpillar and MTU are available. The base package is a pair of 1,550 hp MAN V-12 diesels, and the options go up to twin 2,022 hp MTU M96X V-12 diesels.

The 64C I got aboard had the bigger motors, which topped the yacht out at 42 knots. Pushing down the two single-lever throttles resulted in a satisfying surge to full plane without requiring tabs to prevent bow rise. Viking Capt. Sean Dooley said he had recently brought the 64C back from a tournament in the Florida Keys, running at 80 percent power (2,100 rpm) and 36 knots. The boat consumed 152 gph, giving it a range (with a safety margin) of more than 380 nautical miles.

All Viking yachts benefit from the lessons learned with previous builds, and the 64C is no different. Some of the 64C’s hull refinements include modifying the chine angle from the 12-degree transom deadrise, softening the radius of the chine itself, and rearranging the strakes forward to further reduce spray. The results are faster planing, higher speed and better efficiency.

Once again, Viking has raised the bar not just on its own products but also on sport-fishers in general. Impeccably built, thoughtfully outfitted for fishing and with performance to satisfy, the Viking Yachts 64C is built by anglers and for anglers.

One Tough Beauty

The Viking 64C has a vinylester-resin hull that is vacuum-infused and should prevent blisters. Bulkheads and fuel tanks are resin-infused too, and the hull-to-deck joint is through-bolted every 3 inches. The mold work is impeccable, with the topsides and cabin unmarred by ripples. High-level Viking craftsmanship is evident everywhere, including in the finely mitered joints in the after corners. And, the 64C is the first Viking with matched grain woodwork throughout the salon and staterooms. Making this feature look right requires precise joinery techniques.

Towering View

The tuna tower on the 64C, made by Viking-owned Palm Beach Towers, is a 10-foot gap tower with 43-foot triple-spreader outriggers. It has a centerline helm with a Furuno color scanning sonar, a seat and a padded rail for three people.

Stick Stowage

Every angler has a multitude of rods for various angling activities. The 64C provides stowage for a full quiver in a pullout drawer under the dinette, as well as inside lockers in the cockpit, which hold tag sticks and gaffs.

Driven by its mantra to build a better boat every day, here comes Viking again with another example of excellence in boatbuilding design, engineering and innovation. The legendary New Jersey boatbuilder is proud to announce the all-new Viking 90 Convertible, a yacht that will redefine the capabilities of the luxury convertible sportfisher and become the new benchmark in the genre.

“We’ve taken all the incredible qualities of the 92 – the interior layout, the accommodations, the style, the amenities – and merged them with greater performance, technology and versatility,” says Viking President and CEO Pat Healey. “The 92 was the Bentley. This is the Ferrari.”

Three Models The 90’s profile represents a synthesis of design traits from the 92, 80 and other modern Viking sportfishing yachts, as well as subtle motor yacht influences. “We designed the 90 to be as sleek as possible, stressing a low profile and clean lines,” says Viking Design Manager David Wilson. “We also brought several refinements to the exterior that enhance that lean, sexy look.” Carefully placed feature lines, deckhouse windows and portlights with chamfered edges and Viking’s signature hull-side vents are just of few of the 90’s aesthetic high points.

Viking will offer three models of the 90 (Open Bridge, Enclosed Bridge and Sky Bridge), all utilizing a spacious six-stateroom accommodation plan highlighted by a full-beam master suite. “We feel the open bridge 90 is going to be a huge hit, particularly with our 80 owners,” says Pat. “We’re providing a larger Viking that fishes just as well as their 80 and has the same type of performance and nimble maneuverability.”

The Open and Enclosed Bridge 90 can be outfitted with a tuna tower from Palm Beach Towers (PBT), and all three models can be equipped with a custom electronics, communications and entertainment package from Atlantic Marine Electronics (AME). Both Viking subsidiaries, AME and PBT ensure turnkey delivery.

Looking Aft The cockpit and dual mezzanine stress a sense of togetherness with a focus aft – where the action is. From the salon, a 40-inch-wide electric-powered single door opens with a touch of a button. The upper mezzanine’s port side is home to an L-shaped aft-facing lounge with available air-conditioned backrest and a teak table. On the starboard side, there’s a versatile cooking and refreshment hub (with an additional aft-facing seat) that can be personalized to the owner’s liking with a grill and icemaker or refrigerator.

A large lounge on the lower mezzanine looks upon the cockpit, with its shapely fiberglass module holding storage underneath and tackle drawers on each side. The mezzanine provides centerline engine access to the crew quarters and engineroom, and is also home to an oversized freezer (port) and two refrigerated boxes (starboard).

The cockpit measures 224 square feet, with a 203-gallon transom fishbox/live well and a pair of full-length 103-gallon insulated in-deck fishboxes. Access to the Seakeeper 35 is provided by a single powered hatch on centerline, a watertight design introduced with recent Viking 80 demonstrator boats, and the cockpit sole is built with reinforcement for a fighting chair, rocket launcher or table.

Living Large Viking owners and enthusiasts will be enamored with the accommodations of the new Viking 90. The combination of interior volume, a flowing open layout and several design nuances create a fresh soothing ambiance throughout the vast living spaces. Stepping into the salon, a new horizontal grain natural walnut interior greets you with warmth and style. Interior doors featuring both horizontal and vertical grains as well as ebony inlays add to the visual appeal. Guests will appreciate the spacious lounge that begins at the salon door and wraps around the port side. A starboard-side entertainment center features a 65-inch pop-up HD TV. Forward, the large starboard wraparound galley is open to a raised U-shaped dinette to port (with rod storage below).

The Viking 90 offers five guest staterooms, each with its own private head and shower, crew quarters with immediate access to the engine room, a pantry with an additional crew berth and a day head. Spanning the 23-foot, 2-inch beam, the owner’s suite boasts a king walkaround bed, a walk-in closet, a dressing table, a lounge area, a full-size credenza under a bulkhead-mounted 65-inch HD TV and his-and-hers private facilities with separate access.

Miami 2023 Debut “Constantly looking to the future, we embarked more than a year ago on this design,” explains Pat. “It came at a time when international regulations would be taking effect that required Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) in the engine rooms of yachts with a ‘load line length’ greater than 24 meters.

“Understanding that suitable engine and SCR technology for this market was unavailable, the U.S. Coast Guard announced in March a three-year suspension of the regulations in North America. But the development of the 90, which does not require SCR, was already well underway and in 15 months we’ll proudly present the next flagship of the Viking sportfishing fleet.”

The Viking 90 will make her world premiere at the 2023 Miami Yacht Show.

The Value Is In The Details With Viking Yachts

viking yachts best equipment

There is no question when it comes to who the number one builder is in the world of sportfishing yachts. Viking Yachts has dominated the sportfish industry for decades and doesn't seem to be letting up anytime soon. Now with Valhalla Boatworks , they are seeing the same success with center-console sales. This success is contributed to the leadership of the Healey family, as well as the skilled team at the Viking factory that have become experts at their craft.

When it comes to why Viking Yachts perform so well, much of the discussion is about the top design team, the high-quality materials, the cutting-and edge machinery at the shipyard. While over 90% of every Viking or Valhalla is made in-house, there are certain parts like flooring, leather seating, outriggers, rod holders, and more that are provided by specialized vendors. Viking carefully scrutinizes each vendor so their products align with the same level of quality expected throughout each model.

"You'll only find the best equipment options on a Viking," said Rich Lucas , Viking Brand Manager for SI Yachts. "There are so many customization opportunities to make a Viking or Valhalla in your own vision. The Viking team shops their equipment partners hard and the results show. Of course, Palm Beach Towers and Atlantic Marine Electronics are the most well-known when it comes to Viking. There is a lot of value when it comes to these smaller details."

Amtico has over 50 years of experience and knowledge that goes into creating every floor for both commercial and residential applications. Amtico touts their product as being flexible, durable, and sustainable, which are all attributes needed for tough billfish adventures.

Costa Marine Canvas (Seen below: The seating on the Valhalla models looks good and performs even better.)

valhalla canvas seating

Costa Marine Canvas is the leading canvas, seating, and enclosure company in the marine industry. They are responsible for all of the seating on all Valhalla models along with many of the canvas covers and bridge seating for the Viking Sportfish. Owner Chris Costa is from Egg Harbor, New Jersey and grew up around iconic brands like Ocean and Viking. He even used the name "Costa Clear" for the company's brand of enclosures based off the recommendation from John Leek IV, now the manager of Viking Mullica.

Dometic Eskimo Ice Makers (Seen below: Having enough ice to fill multiple fish boxes is a must on a Viking.)

Viking knows its owners use a lot of ice because they are fisherman too. Not only do coolers need to be iced down for drinks, ice for every fish-box is a must-have as well. Dometic Eskimo Ice Machines are the option of choice for Viking Yachts because of their reliability, service, and amazing amount of ice produced. The Eskimo Ice EL1000 can produce up to 1,000 lbs. of fishbox ice per day and is all digitally controlled.

Gemlux Outrigger Systems (Seen below: Gemlux outriggers looking sharp on the Valhalla 41 .)

Gemlux is the preferred outrigger vendor for the Valhalla Boatworks center-console models. Gemlux bases and outriggers are either fixed or telescoping to really get your bait in clean water. The Gemlux outriggers for Valhalla can be color-coordinated, are salt-resistant, and have greatly reduced whipping when running or fishing. Family-owned and operated since 1980, Gemlux also manufactures other marine products like deck hardware, hinges, latches, rod holders, and more.

Palm Beach Towers (Seen below: The custom Palm Beach Tower on the Viking 52ST is the best there is.)

Palm Beach Tower on Viking

Viking's subsidiary company Palm Beach Towers is known as the best in the business when it comes to the cutting-edge design of tuna towers, express towers, and fiberglass hardtops. Palm Beach Towers conveniently operates at both major Viking locations - the New Gretna factory and the Viking Service Center in Riviera Beach, FL making it easy for Viking or Valhalla owners to service. The construction, dual electronics and controls, and durability of these towers is truly a work of art.

Release Marine Helm Chairs (Seen below: The flybridge helm chairs on the 68 Convertible .)

release marine helm chairs on viking

Battling an 800 lbs. marlin requires skill, teamwork, and the best gear. But what about the comfort of your backside? Sitting in a chair, tense, in the sun, fighting it out with a big game fish can leave your sore. That's why Viking uses Release Marine for fighting chairs, helm seats, launches, are more. Based in Savannah, Georgia since it opened in 1977, Release Marine specializes in customized wood fishing accessories of the very highest quality.

Rupp Marine Outriggers (Seen below: The Viking 52 cruising with Rupp Outriggers.)

Rupp outriggers on viking yacht

Mick Rupp, an inventor with a strong passion for sportfishing, decided to design a new outrigger system that was easy to use and service. More than 40 years later, Rupp Marine Outriggers are among the highest quality and best in the industry. The Rupp Power hydraulic outrigger system allows for push button control, a favorite among Viking owners.

Seakeeper Gyro Stabilization (Seen below: The Valhalla V-37 is outfitted with a Seakeeper Gyro.)

seakeeper gyro on Valhalla Boats

Whether you're buying a Viking sportfish or a Valhalla center-console, there are few new luxury boats or yachts sold today without stabilization. Gyro stabilization has been out now for several years and there are a handful of companies that build the units needed. Seakeeper, however, has taken this industry by storm and continues to be the unabashed leader in marine stabilization. Many test cases exist including an 82% roll elimination in a Viking 82MY and a 81% improvement in the new Princess Y78 .

Sub-Zero Refrigeration (Seen below: The galley on the Viking 44 Convertible .)

viking 44c galley fridge

After a long, hot day in the sun fishing nothing beats a nice meal and a cold drink. When tournament fishing or on extended trips, your yacht needs to have enough capacity to hold enough food, drinks, and supplies for a hungry crew for several days or weeks. For this important task, Viking chose the very best in under-counter refrigeration from Sub-Zero . In business for over 70 years, Sub-Zero describes their business as the "refrigeration, cooking, and dishwashing specialists found in the world's most luxurious homes."

William Bales and Company (Seen below: The gorgeous interior of the Viking 92 Skybridge .)

interior design on viking yachts

Every Viking is designed for hardcore, rugged performance and built to rise to every occasion whether competing in a major tournament or fishing for fun. When the fishing is done, the air-conditioned (or heated) interior can be a place of relaxation and rejuvenation. Many Viking owners also use their boats for cruising with friends and family. For these reasons, the interior design and decoration is important. As another example of how Viking allows owners to customize their yacht, William Bales and Company is the go-to interior design expert that Viking recommends. Mr. Bales chooses only the very best in fine fabrics, leathers, carpet, stone, accents, artwork, and other modern building materials.

Sundeck of Revelry yacht by Verge Yacht Design

The rising interior design firm behind some of the latest eco-friendly superyacht refits

When turning superyacht dreams into reality, finding the right yacht designer is crucial. US-based Verge Yacht Design , founded in 2021 by principal interior designer Anita Rivera Turcotte, has quickly proven itself as a leader in the industry despite its relatively young age. The firm has already worked on an impressive array of projects, collaborating with renowned shipyards such as Feadship , Amels and Heesen , among others. Currently working on two new builds and two refits, with three additional refits scheduled for 2024-2025, Verge Yacht Design specialises in full-service superyacht interiors and personalised furnishings, all while being committed to using environmentally conscious materials in its work.

Bespoke superyacht interiors

At Verge Yacht Design, innovation is at the heart of every project. The firm collaborates closely with yacht owners and crew to create stylish and functional spaces that cater to the client’s lifestyle and taste. Verge is known for pushing the boundaries of traditional yacht design, offering creative and customised solutions that are truly one-of-a-kind. A hallmark of Verge’s approach is the incorporation of biomimicry, drawing inspiration from nature to enhance the design.

A prime example of Verge’s expertise is on board the 54.3-metre, Amels-built Revelry , which underwent an extensive eight-month refit at Thunderbolt Marine from May to December 2022. Verge Yacht Design led the complete interior transformation, which included bespoke furnishings, reupholstery, curated artwork, custom Roman sheers and blackout window shades, custom lighting and technical upgrades. The sundeck was also reimagined with an LED-backlit quartz bar top, bespoke seating, spatial reconfiguration, custom barware and a soft refit of the bridge deck and crew areas.

“Anita and the Verge team channelled their many high-end talents to produce a refitted interior beyond our owner’s dreams,” praises the captain. “From design to fit, Verge paired yacht practicality and sustainability into their aesthetic design. As with all projects, when challenges present themselves, it’s the commitment that excels a team to the finish line.”

Service that goes beyond design

Verge Yacht Design has significantly expanded its scope beyond yacht interiors to offer a full suite of services, including project management, furniture design and product engineering. The firm oversees every aspect of a project, from the initial design phase to final implementation, ensuring smooth execution through a trusted network of collaborators and vendors.

The studio’s designs are distinguished by their engineering precision. To bolster this technical expertise, Verge has been collaborating with renowned naval architect Nick Eremic on structural engineering. Eremic’s knowledge in engineering and construction ensures that superyacht concepts are both realistic and functional, while also facilitating an organised process for contractors during the build phase.

Eremic will be joining the Verge Yacht Design team on a full-time basis in September 2024. His expertise will enhance the firm’s capabilities, allowing them to offer 3D models and renderings, engineering drawings comprehensive project management services.

Leading the way in eco-friendly yacht design

Committed to staying at the forefront of eco-friendly innovation, Verge Yacht Design strives to integrate technologies and practices that minimise environmental impact into every aspect of its designs. The firm actively sources materials that reduce weight to lower emissions, as well as carbon-neutral decking and upcycled components.

A key focus for Verge is understanding the origins and production processes of the materials it uses to ensure they are environmentally certified. By selecting marine-grade materials that are reusable and biodegradable, particularly for closed-loop systems, Verge minimises environmental impact while adhering to the highest standards of sustainability.

Verge also prioritises the full lifecycle of each material, carefully evaluating its impact on the marine environment. This involves assessing energy consumption, waste production and the potential for recycling and reuse. Looking to the future, Verge considers the long-term impacts of its material choices, emphasising biodegradability, recyclability and positive end-of-life outcomes. But sustainability in yacht design at Verge extends beyond material selection. The firm also focuses on reducing its carbon footprint throughout the entire logistics and procurement process. This includes maintaining transparency in the supply chain, consolidating shipments, optimising routes, partnering with green carriers, and sourcing locally whenever possible.

Verge Yacht Design is currently developing a yacht-specific furniture line in collaboration with a luxury brand, as well as a marine fabric line, both set to launch in 2026. These exciting ventures position Verge as a brand to watch in the world of superyacht design.
