An extensive cosmetic refit is about 80% completed -- this is a perfect time for buyer to get involved with the functional refit decisions needed.

The interior pictures show the original protective plastic on all-new overhead panels.  Much of the interior trim remains to be done to complete the cosmetic refit - inexpensive here in Rio Dulce.  This Formosa is priced at about half of what it will justify when returned to safe, reliable cruising condition -- the reason is simply the additional cost of a functional refit after purchase.  A buyer will likely have $200k-$300k into this boat before long, but then can enjoy a beautiful yacht with new equipment of their choosing.  The average price for this size/age/style sailboat is near $300k -- and that is for one with generally average equipment, not new equipment of choice.  This can be considered a project boat, but one with excellent potential to justify consideration.  Write for more information and I'll send a list of potential deficiencies to correct.  All work can be done in Rio Dulce by skilled tradesmen, or complete a Stage One here for cosmetics and to make seaworthy before a Stage Two Stateside for completion of desired equipment upgrades.

1982 Formosa New Horizon 68

Seller's Description

There were only 14 Formosa New Horizon 68 sailboats ever built. At 70 feet long with a 17’ 4” beam, she’s a big beautiful Ketch. This Formosa has a centerboard keel, which makes her very versatile for taking her where you want to go. With the centerboard up, she has a 5’ draft, which deepens to 11’ with the keel fully deployed.

With 3 cabins and 3 heads, there are 2 showers and enough berths to sleep up to 10 passengers. There are 3 double berths and 4 single berths.

The galley is well equipped to keep the crew fed, and the stove is run off propane.

As part of the electronics package, you’ll find an integrated Garmin system with 2 GPS-chartplotters, radar, wind gauge, depth gauge, and the Garmin Reactor 40 Smartpump Autopilot. A VHF radio with AIS is aboard for safety and communication.

The seller reports that this Formosa at one time averaged around 12 knots for one of its lengthy trips. With an 84’ mast, the sail inventory includes the Main, a Staysail, Mizzen Sail, and a newer Yankee sail. 600 feet of Dyneema is on order and will also be included in the sale.

There are 12 winches on board, 2 of which are electric.

Per the seller, The Ford Lehman 150 Turbo engine runs very well and is ready for longer voyages.

The seller does currently live aboard, but will work on decluttering the boat to get us better photos.

(LOCATION: Ormond Beach FL) This Formosa 68 New Horizon is a blue water cruiser with classic style and spacious accommodations. Her roomy cockpit is designed for day-cruising and she has a four cabin interior with accommodations for overnight and extended getaways.

On deck we have a large cockpit with cushioned seating, bimini top, dodger, and pedestal helm. There is ample room for entertaining and alfresco dining. A walk-through transom provides access to the swim / dive boarding ladder. Aluminum mast and boom hold a full batten mainsail, roller furling staysail, and roller furling yankee. She features electric winches and roller furling.

The spacious interior is warm and inviting with room to relax, dine, and sleep. The galley features teak cabinets, solid surface counters, stainless steel sinks, three-burner range with oven, refrigerator, microwave oven, and coffee maker. There is a nav station with chart table and electronics. Forward of the galley we have an u-shaped settee with drop leaf dining table.

There are four private cabins. There is forward guest cabin with v-berth. Another guest cabin has double berth while a third has a double lower berth and single upper berth. The master aft cabin has a double and a single berth. Each cabin has ample storage. There are two guest heads and a private master head.
