Two popular King Harbor Yacht Club sailing events from the pre pandemic period were back on the water this month.

Last weekend, the club hosted the 29th Annual Tom Collier Memorial Trophy pursuit race. Collier was a popular club member and expert sailor who passed away at age 31, from cancer. The race has raised almost $700,000 for cancer research.

In a pursuit race, boats leave the starting line in the reverse order of their estimated finish times.

The perpetual trophy is a beautiful dolphin sculpture by Wyland.

The top finishers were: 1. Fred and Suzanne Cottrell. J33 ,“Tigger;”  2. Marty Burke,  Beneteau 36.7, “Bella Vita,” and 3. Andy Beggs, Beneteau 40.7, “Triggerfish V.”

During the preceding week, King Harbor Yacht Club hosted the International Surf Festival Youth Sailing Events. The sailors competed in Optimists (7-foot-9-inch dinghies) and 14-foot FJs (Flying Juniors). ER

Smoke on the water, the fire in the sky.

Yachts go up in smoke. Could be sabotage or could be insurance fraud or could be another careless smoker.

Sucks when you can’t even get a moped through with a six-pack of water.

The whole road is about 15 km and you can take dozens of similar photos on it. Thanks to the successful operation of drones, Russians are sitting in tree lines and  forests with a minimum of ammunition, food and water. There were cases when we destroyed a moped with which Russians tried to bring a pack of 6 bottles of water to the position.”
