Meet the Boat!

Lets talk about the boat! The name of the vessel is Mojave. The name Mojave is composed of two Indian words, aha (water) and macave (along or beside). Mojave translates to "along or beside the water," or freely as "people who live along the water". Mojave is a 42 foot sailboat built in 1993 by Catalina Yachts. She's safe, beautiful, and my own personal dream come true. I look forward to meeting you soon so that Mojave can makes your dreams come true as well.

Public Tours may be cancelled up to 24hrs prior to the sail and receive a complete refund.

Private Charters require a 50% deposit that is completely refundable up to 2 weeks prior to the sail.

Inclement weather: On the rare occasion when the weather is not suitable to go sailing, we will reschedule your sail when possible or issue a complete refund.

General FAQs

Where are you located.

Triton is located at  2700 Shelter Island Dr. San Diego CA 92101  on the commercial dock next to Sail San Diego. Watch our  Pre-Boarding video  to help with parking!

What are your COVID Guidelines?

We are committed to the safety of our customers and our staff. We follow CDC recommendations on the state level as well as the county recommendations. Since our venue is outdoors, customers are not required to wear a mask. Triton is sanitized before, during, and after every charter with hand sanitizer available for guests.

What comes standard with each charter?

Triton includes a captain, crew, bartender, waterslide (for private charters), dance floor, seating for up to 100 guests, 2 restrooms, and modern decor! 

Can we film our experience?

Drone Filming

Filming/bringing a drone for your charter is prohibited. Triton’s location is an ever-changing “no fly zone” with only very few locations able to actually take-off with a drone. We do offer drone filming services where our experienced pilots will communicate with our captain to get the shot that you need. Please inquire for cost.

DSLR/Production Filming

Bringing professional filming equipment on-board must be approved with our administrative team. Triton Charters must be added as “additionally insured” on your insurance policy. Filming with intent to distribute is prohibited on Triton without prior approval. Cell phone videos/pictures are encouraged!

What is your refund/cancellation policy?

Private Charters – Triton Management LLC requires all cancellations be made 14 days prior to the scheduled departure time to receive a full refund. Cancellation within 14 days of the charter will forfeit their deposit. Any cancellations made within 72 hours before the charter will forfeit the full amount of the contracted services and are non-refundable.

Ticketed Charters – Tickets are 100% refundable if canceled at least 24 hours prior to the charter’s departure time. Triton Charters may cancel ticketed charters anytime for any reason in which case, our customers will receive a full refund.

Special Events – For special or holiday ticketed events, our cancellation policy requires a 72 hour notice. You may receive a full refund if you cancel at least 72 hours before the departure time. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made within 72 hours of the event start time. You have the option to reschedule to a regular ticketed charter but please note we cannot refund the price difference from the special event when rebooking.

WEATHER POLICY Triton Charters does not operate in unsafe weather conditions, but a light rain shower is not a deterrent. The captain will assess the weather and should the captain determine that the conditions are unsafe to run the charter, the charter may be rescheduled or it will be canceled.

If a trip is canceled by Triton Charters for any reason, you will have the option of receiving a voucher for a future trip or receiving a full refund.

Please note that failure to show for the reserved trip without cancellation will result in no refund

**Triton Charters reserves the right to change/alter our cancellation and refund policy as needed based on availability, or any circumstances deemed necessary.

Is there a deposit?

The deposit for Private Charters is 20% of the total cost. This must be paid upon booking and the remaining amount is due 72 hours before your charter date.

Each charter must pay a 10% deposit upon booking.

What's the max capacity and seating?

The maximum occupancy of triton yacht rental San Diego is 100 passengers. With comfortable seating for everyone. Seating includes our 13-seat bar, leather bean bags, and bench seating. During COVID-19 our capacity may change.

What does the yacht rental include?

We’ve thought of everything, so you don’t have to. Included in your charter is our USCG certified captain and crew, 13-seat bar, bartender, space for 100 guests, 2 bathrooms, built-in waterslide, professional sound system, covered dance floor, 55″ flatscreen tv, lifejackets, all on the largest and newest catamaran charter in San Diego. Alcoholic beverages are also for sale at our 13-seat custom bar.

Where does the yacht charter go?

Each charter is unique. Guests will enjoy the ability to “point and go” allowing you to go wherever you’d like. Typically charters will do a tour around San Diego Bay where you will pass many of San Diego’s monuments and sights. You also have the ability to go for an ocean sail and enjoy the amazing views of Coronado and Point Loma.

What about food and drinks?

Each Private Charter includes a bartender that will serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. We have a fully stocked bar with the same amenities as a normal venue including draft beer, craft cocktails, mixed drinks, wine, juices, sparkling water, and non-alcoholic beverages. Guests are prohibited from bringing any alcoholic beverages onboard.

You are more than welcome to bring your own food on-board. If you decide to bring your own food, we suggest finger foods that are easily served and disposed of. If you plan on catering your event, you must have the venue list Triton Charters on the ‘additionally insured business’ on their insurance. For more information, please call us at 844-5-TRITON.

As you soak in the sun, we’ll sail past some of San Diego’s most spectacular coastal sites introducing (or reacquainting) you with the:

USS Midway Aircraft Carrier– The USS Midway was commissioned one week after the end of World War II, was the largest ship in the world until 1955, and was the longest-serving aircraft carrier in the 20th century. The Midway was so large it could carry 120 planes on its armored flight deck and was the first aircraft carrier unable to cruise the Panama Canal due to its sheer size. While you are visiting San Diego, be sure to check out the USS Midway Museum to learn more about this iconic ship. Star of India – Star of India is the world’s oldest active sailing ship. She is an iron ship with a long and storied past that includes collisions, mutiny and cyclones. She worked as a cargo ship and then spent half a century bringing emigrants to New Zealand. You can tour the Star of India at the Maritime Museum of San Diego. North Island Military Base – Dubbed the official birthplace of aviation, the North Island Military Base is an active military base home to two aircraft carriers and 23 fixed and rotary wing squadrons. Cabrillo National Museum – The Cabrillo National Monument and museum mark the location where the first European set foot on the western US. There is a lot to take in at Cabrillo park including the Old Point Loma Lighthouse and the rocky intertidal zone. Hotel del Coronado – The Hotel Del is a historic beachfront luxury hotel situated in the city of Coronado, just over the bridge from downtown San Diego. It opened in 1888 as the largest resort hotel in the world and today is the second-largest wooden structure in the US. If you are visiting San Diego, it is definitely worth spending a couple of hours at The Del — grab lunch or stroll the pristine beach.

What is the ticket schedule?

To see our live calendar, please visit our  ticketed charter  page. Our ticketed charter times change based upon the season. From March 17th – November 3rd, our ticketed cruise depart Wednesday-Sunday at 11am, 2:30pm, and 6pm. November 4th – March 9th our schedule is Wednesday-Sunday at 10am, 1pm, nd 4:30pm. Each charter is 2.5 hours and will take you on an epic adventure through San Diego Bay, down to Glorietta Bay and back! Triton may change/update/add or remove dates upon our descretion. 

How long is the cruise?

Each ticketed charter is 2.5 hours in duration.

Triton is equipped with a full bar including: mixed drinks, draft beer, specialty cocktails, soft drinks, juices and sparkling water.  Passengers are strictly prohibited from bringing their own beverages. 

Prices are $8.50 for draft beer, $10.50 for mixed drinks, and $13.00 for specialty cocktails. You may bring your own food that is individually packed, ie: No cakes, or foods that require serving utensils.

What type of payments do you accept?

We take all majorly accepted credit/debit cards. We do not accept cash or checks.

What is the deposit for Private Charters?

All private charters are required to pay a 20% deposit to secure their booking. If the charter is within one week of the reservation, the charter must be fully paid.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

The entire experience was top notch. Boat has a great set up with a large indoors area with multiple tables and a bar and area to dance. There is a large outside area on top of the boat with bar tables and tons of space to dance and enjoy the outside. The captain did a great job of touring the bay with a real close flyby of under the Midway. Staff was very helpful and took care of everything. We also purchased one of their charcuterie boards and it was pretty amazing. Highly recommend if you're looking for a large party on the water!

This was the one of the best decisions I made for my wedding weekend! The Legacy Cruise team and Sam really made us all feel at home on the yacht and were very accommodating to our whole party. They were attentive to all of our guests and the boat was such a fancy venue for our reception dinner. Our guests who traveled out of town were treated to such an unforgettable night cruising around the San Diego Harbor and dancing under the Coronado bridge! The service, from booking, thru selection of dinner, beverages (open bar), flexible with timing, and during the cruise, was above and beyond. Fishing in San Diego is incredibly popular, and considering the diverse species of fish you can catch both inshore and offshore, it’s no wonder why. In fact, everything from monstrous marlin to small sand bass can be caught in its nearby waters. That’s because San Diego offers both deep sea fishing action just off the coast and inshore fishing in San Diego Bay. So, which species top the angling charts? Let’s take a peek at the top 10 picks, with five for offshore and five for inshore.

Top Offshore Fish Species in San Diego

1. bluefin tuna.

Tuna fishing has been getting better and better in recent years, and these top-tier predators get as much or more attention than any other species in the ocean when they come within range of San Diego. 2. Calico Bass

Although these fish don’t get very large (a 10 pounder is considered a trophy) they’re good eating, can be found near shore so long cruises aren’t necessary to catch them, and they’re good fighters that are usually willing to bite.

3. Mahi-Mahi

This prolific pelagic predator is one of the most common gamefish you’re likely to encounter offshore. Be sure to keep a sharp eye out for weed paddies and flotsam, which mahi-mahi often congregate around.

4. Mako Shark

The waters of south California are famous for producing epic mako sharks, including some topping 1,000 pounds and one caught in 2013 that weighed an astonishing 1,323 pounds. If you want to go mano-a-mano with a shark the size of a car, this is the place to make it happen.

5. Yellowtail

A favorite at sushi restaurants and kitchen tables, yellowtail are a prized species which can be found both offshore in open waters and close to land near kelp forests or rocky drop-offs. When you’re after yellowtail look for terns wheeling and diving, which are often trying to pick off baitfish the yellowtail have chased to the surface.

1. bonefish.

The population of bonefish found in San Diego Bay consists mostly of small fish in the one- to three-pound range, but they’re popular among catch-and-release anglers looking for a challenge. The species is different from, but closely related to, the famed bonefish so popular among east coast and Caribbean flats fishermen. In both cases they’re known for being amazingly hard-fighting and punching well above their weight.

This species is a member of the croaker family that looks very much like the popular speckled sea trout found along the East and Gulf coasts, but without the specks. They don’t get very large and a five-pounder is considered a whopper, but corvina are also considered an excellent fish to eat thanks to their mild flavor.

Croaker get their name from their ability to “talk” by rubbing a muscle against their swim bladder. There’s a handful of different species (white, yellowfin, and spotfin), which can grow to varying sizes, but most that anglers catch are panfish of up to a few pounds. These fish are quite popular because they’re one of the most common catches among shoreline and pier anglers. Tip: they love eating bits of sand crab.

Few fish can rival California halibut for their popularity on the dinner plate, so it’s no wonder they make this list. They can also get fairly large (though not nearly as large as the Pacific halibut found farther north) and are known for putting up a tough fight. If you want to target halibut remember to keep those baits close to the bottom, where these flat fish lurk.

5. Sand Bass

While sand bass don’t get very big (a five-pounder is huge) they’re excellent eating, bite willingly, and are found throughout the bay and inshore waters in great numbers. They’re popular among anglers simply because so often sand bass are what’s biting, and those who fish with artificials enjoy targeting them since they readily strike small jigs and swimbaits.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A popular sportfishing boat won't be returning to a Point Loma dock. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, Jig Strike with H&M Landing sunk roughly 100 miles off the San Diego coast. The incident leaving many in the area shaken.

"You don't think about it ever happening, you just kind of think its' safe and you go," says Gayla, visiting from Dallas, Texas.

The Captain of Jig Strike Patrick Dorety posted to social media saying 'the boat hit something above the surface out at cortez bank.'

It’s a situation some can’t even begin to imagine.

"That’s just kinda tragic," says Mitchell, a former resident of San Diego who is visiting from Tucscon, Arizona. "Somebody sank out there, I mean even if they survive you’re in the water for who knows how long until you get picked up.”

But thanks to quick actions by Captain Dorety's crew as well as nearby boats in the area… all 17 people onboard were able to get off and on to another vessel in the area.

Many people who fish here often like Muhammed Qazi credit the safety precautions many of these local boat companies take that make a difference.

"When we're on the boat they go over the safety protocols at the very beginning, Them letting us know where the life vests and rafts are," says Qazi. "But it's also good knowing that for them it's kind of second nature to jump in when you need to."

And when it comes to the next fishing trip — a tragic incident like this won’t stop them from their next catch with the company.

"I don't think it’ll hold me back . I think it's the nature of being in the boating industry," says Qazi. "Ultimately you do your best to avoid it and that’s why you have those safety precautions."

Sports | Gold Cup powerboat race highlights San Diego Bayfair weekend on Mission Bay

San Diego Bayfair will also be hosting one of the more historic events in motorsports. The American Power Boat Association Gold Cup, which dates to 1904 — or seven years before the first Indianapolis 500.

Six of the turbine-powered Unlimiteds are entered in the event, with qualifying Friday, three heats races Saturday and three heats Sunday before the championship race around 3:45 p.m. Competition will be held on the 2½-mile Bill Muncey Memorial Course between East Vacation Isle and Crown Point Shores on the west and Fiesta Island on the east.

This will be the 56th Unlimited Hydroplane race on Mission Bay since 1964 and the fifth time San Diego has hosted the Gold Cup — although this is the first time since 1989.

The weekend program will also include racing in the automotive-powered Grand Prix class plus One Liters and other flatbottom and limited hydroplane classes.

“The goal is to have more action on the water plus other activities,” said race director Bob Davies. “It’s more than a race. It’s a festival.”

Historically, the saltwater Mission Bay course has been the fastest on the tour.

“Mission Bay is by far one of my favorite courses,” said three-time Mission Bay champion J. Michael Kelly. “Not only because it’s a very fast course that I’ve had success on, but it’s also a beautiful place to visit. It’s like a mini-vacation before and after a serious weekend of racing.”

The boat racing course was part of the charter when the Mission Bay aquatic park was first being developed in 1958. The curvature of East Vacation Isle and Fiesta Island was designed for the race course, with the sloping beach developed to dissipate waves from both race boats and recreational boat traffic.

While Kelly is one of the six Unlimited Hydroplane drivers here this weekend, he is not the one to beat.

Andrew Tate and his U-91 could clinch the season driver and boat championships during Saturday’s heats. With two wins, a second and a fourth in the season’s first four races, Tate and the U-91 hold a 949-point lead over teammate Corey Peabody and the U-9 entering the traditional Mission Bay season finale.

Tate won the season’s first two races at Guntersville, Ala., and Madison, Ind. Peabody defeated Tate at Tri-Cities, Wash. Kelly won in Seattle in the U-1.

Rounding out the six-boat fleet in the East Vacation Isle pits are the U-40 (Dustin Echols driving), U-11 (Jamie Nilsen) and the U-27 (Dave Villwock). Echols is third in points with 3,837, followed closely by Nilsen at 3,812 and Kelly at 3,795.

In addition to his win, Peabody has a runner-up finish, a sixth-place finish and a seventh-place finish this season. Echols has a third and three fifths. Nilsen has pair of seconds.

But don’t count out Villwock on Mission Bay. Now 70 years old, Villwock is the all-time leader in Unlimited Hydroplane wins with 67. He is 10-time winner of the Gold Cup and a 10-time champion on Mission Bay, where he last won in 2011. Villwock has been racing Unlimited since 1992, although he has twice retired only to return.

Tate scored his Mission Bay wins in 2014, ’19 and ’21. There was also no race during the pandemic year of 2020. Tate previously scored back-to-back wins in ’17 and ’18.

The rules of the Gold Cup places extra demands on Unlimited Hydroplane teams. The preliminary heats are each four laps. Sunday’s championship will be five laps of the 2.5-mile course.

The Unlimited Hydroplane program opens at 11 a.m. Friday with testing. Two 45-minute rounds of qualifying will commence at 12:50 p.m. and 2:35 p.m.

The Grand Prix boats powered by big-block automobile engines will race on a shorter 1 2/3-mile course between East Vacation Isle. The Grand Prix field includes a pair of entries from Australia. The One Liters and other hydro and flatbottom classes will also run on shorter courses with all the championship heats scheduled for Sunday.

One of the attractions of Bayfair is that it is the only weekend of the year when motorhomes and overnight camping is allowed on East Vacation Isle, Fiesta Island and Crown Point Shores. Limited spaces are still available on Fiesta Island and Crown Point Shores, although East Vacation Isle is sold out.

Three-day super passes are available for $60.
