There is only an M2M Ferry service, which provides vehicle and pet transport through the ferry. The M2M ship works between two ports – Bhaucha Dhakka Port in Mumbai and Mandwa Jetty in Raigad. So in case you’re in Mumbai, your boarding point would be from Bhaucha Dhakka Port. 

The RoPax ferry service has a capacity of up to 500 passengers and 150 vehicles. It includes cars, motorcycles, and bicycles. The terminals were built at both locations to allow easy entry and exit of the vehicles.

Remember when it used to take three hours to get from Mumbai to Alibaug ? That long drive you had to take to get to the strip of land across the waters has become a thing of the past. The Mumbai to Alibaug Ro-Ro car ferry service has now been in service for a couple of years, and so popular that you have to almost always book a ticket in advance, particularly over the weekend. Unlike the passenger ferry, the Ro-Ro ferry operates throughout the year, including monsoon. Alternatively, you may also want to check out the zippy, Mumbai-Mandwa water taxi , which gets you there, sans your car though.

Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro car ferry ticket price

The Mumbai-Alibaug Ro-Ro car ferry can take up to 150 vehicles and 500 passengers, and everything from buses to cycles can be transported on it. Tickets are priced as:

• Rs390 onwards per passenger
• Rs310 per pet
• Rs1,050 per four-wheeler
• Rs210 per two-wheeler
• Rs110 per cycle
• Rs4,500 per bus

Travel time from Mumbai to Alibaug on Ro-Ro ferry

The travel time on the Ro-Ro ferry is only 60 minutes. This does not include the docking and undocking time. Compare this with the three-plus hours it takes from South or Central Mumbai to Alibaug by road, and you have an irrefutable winner. This option also shaves off an hour and the worst part of the drive to Goa or the other beautiful beaches along the Konkan coast.

Onboard the Ro-Ro ferry

You can store your luggage in your vehicle, and those without one can stash one suitcase in the baggage compartment of the ferry. Any piece of luggage beyond that will be chargeable. There’s a designated area for pets on board, as well as a cafeteria where you can buy food and drinks.

There are three seating zones to pick from: the Škoda Kushaq Zone, Škoda Slavia Deck and Superb Lounge.

Škoda Kushaq Zone (starting Rs420) includes:

• Indoor air-conditioned lounge.
• Outdoor seating deck
• Open plan seating
• A café that serves light snacks and beverages
• Table reservation on request (additional charges applicable)
• Pets are only permitted in the designated pet zone.

From 1 June onwards The Škoda Slavia Deck is open to all passengers until the monsoon season ends. All tickets include access to the Starboard Bar.

So where is Bhaucha Dhakka?

Bhaucha Dhakka, also called Ferry Wharf, is the port on the Mumbai side from where the car ferry will ply. The Ro-Ro terminal is around a kilometre from the southern end of the Eastern Freeway. There is an air-conditioned waiting room at Bhaucha Dhakka for guests to seat themselves until it’s time for boarding. On the Alibaug side, the Ro-Ro car ferry will dock at Mandwa, where other regular ferries currently dock. The main town of Alibaug is about 20km from here.

Tickets can be purchased at the dock in Mandwa or Mumbai. Alternatively, you book it online through the M2M ferries website .

• Boat from Gateway of India (Mumbai) to Mandwa, and vice-versa

• In the Monsoon season (early June to early Sept) there is NO BOAT SERVICE from Gateway of India to Alibag (Mandwa).
