I discovered Click&Boat surfing the Internet. I am a naturally curious person, and your website caught my attention right away. I started reading about your general terms and conditions, where I quickly found a phone number. After talking to the client service, which was very pleasing, I decided to try out the platform.

At the age of 16, I was volunteering for the Red Cross of the Sea, where our goal was to assure sailing regattas. It is during that period that I learned to navigate on small boats for the first time. After 30 years, I finally got to own my first fishing boat bigger than 8 meters in length. Five years ago, a friend of mine who made his fishing boat available for charter, invited me to come aboard with him and some clients. It is then that I saw how much people appreciated the sea. So, I decided to pass my professional license to be able to take people out on the water in Mallorca.

The service that I offer is simple charters without skipper, because many people own a boat license, and our vessels are easy to handle. We are starting private excursions where we can take people on the boats to places they could not go to by themselves.

Most of the profits we make are spent on fleet upgrades. I always like to remember how thankful renters are when they are satisfied with our service.

How much does it cost to charter a yacht?

There are many things to consider and first time charterers can be left confused, that's why we've created a comprehensive guide to yacht charter prices (with a checklist).

The good news: It’s easy to grasp the basics of yacht charter pricing. And with one of our experts in your corner, we can help you more accurately estimate the cost of your next once-in-a-lifetime vacation.

The cost of a yacht charter is dependent on a number of factors, including the type of yacht, the charter destination, local taxes, and the base cost. (If the yacht has a celebrity owner, well that too, can add to the cost.)

Therefore, yacht charters have a wide range of base prices. That’s why charters can cost from $10,000 per week on smaller sailing yachts and catamarans, up to $150,000+ per week on the most luxurious motor superyachts.

Yacht Charter Price Structure: “All-Inclusive” vs “Plus Expenses”

In the world of yachting, two types of crewed yacht charters are available to you – “All-Inclusive” and “Plus Expenses” charter experiences. What do these terms mean exactly? Here’s a quick look:

• All-Inclusive Yacht Charters – Some charters (mainly catamaran and monohull charters in the Virgin Islands) offer all-inclusive rates. That means rates are based on the number of guests, and they include all food and drink, water sports, and fuel costs. Dockage and taxes, though, are usually charged separately.
• Plus Expenses Charters – Rates for larger motor yachts do not include running expenses, which must be paid separately. For these luxury charters, the base price is for the yacht only. Additional expenses, i.e. food, bar, fuel, dockage, port taxes, and other expenses, are charged separately. Most frequently, the running expenses are paid by an Advance Provisioning Allowance, or APA, which is typically 35% of the base price; this is an amount that’s paid prior to the charter.

What can you expect to pay for a catamaran, a sailing vessel, or motored yacht? Here’s a quick overview of the average cost to rent a yacht (not including extra expenses) for the most common types available:

Factors that Affect Yacht Charter Prices

Since charter yachts are privately owned, prices are set by the owner. This can explain, in part, the wide range of differences in price between boats of similar lengths. Yet, several other factors can significantly impact price, including:

• The Yacht – The year the boat was built, the builder, previous owners, and the boat’s selection of water toys can also increase the cost of a yacht. Boats can also develop a reputation, i.e. the largest or most luxurious, or having a famous builder or previous owner. Reputation can also affect pricing.
• Season – Prices typically increase in the high season – i.e. high summer in the Mediterranean or winter in the Caribbean – and decrease in low seasons.
• Destination – Your charter destination also plays a role in charter cost. For example, prices increase in areas without large charter fleets (i.e. the Galapagos), whereas Bahamas yacht charters,   BVI charters , or Mediterranean yacht charter are priced more competitively.

Additional Costs Considerations on Yacht Charter

In addition to the cost associated with running the yacht and provisioning, there are a number of other costs that must be considered. These are the most significant:

Advanced Provisioning Allowance

The APA on Plus Expenses charters equals roughly 35% of the yacht’s base price. This is a fee that’s collected prior to charter, and it’s similar to an expense account the captain can access during the charter. At the end of the charter, you will receive a detailed accounting of your APA account, plus any unused APA funds in cash.

In the case of overages, you may be required to replenish the APA account during the charter. This can be done with cash, although many choose to set up accounts with their charter brokers , which can be accessed if requested by the captain.

Taxes and Value Added Tax (VAT)

Most boats – whether all-inclusive or Plus Expenses – will not include local taxes or a Value Added Tax into their charter rate. The charterer will be responsible for paying those taxes. Taxes range significantly by destination; here’s a look at some of yachting’s most popular destinations:

• The Bahamas – Tax: 4% plus 10% VAT
• BVI – Tax: between $6 and $16 per person per day, depending on the flag of the boat
• Croatia – VAT: 13%
• Florida – Tax: 6% for Broward County, 7% for Miami-Dade County
• France – VAT: 20%, however, 10% can be applied when an itinerary includes International Waters
• Greece – VAT: 12%
• Italy – VAT: 22%, however 6.6% (over 24m) and 8.8% (under 24m) can be applied when an itinerary includes International Waters
• Montenegro – NO VAT
• New England – NO TAX
• Spain – VAT: 21%
• Turkey – NO VAT

Charterers can purchase cancellation and curtailment insurance – which is similar to traveler’s insurance. This insurance can help cover costs if a charterer must cancel or shorten the charter. Charter brokers can help you weigh insurance options, and often offer several different options.

Crew Gratuity

While crew gratuity is certainly not mandatory, it is recommended, particularly if you were truly impressed with your charter experience. In general, crew gratuity is roughly 15-20% of the base charter rate, which is handed to the captain at the conclusion of your charter.

Delivery Fees

While these fees do not apply on most charters, you may be asked to pay delivery costs if you are not chartering in the yacht’s normal cruising ground. In most cases, you will only be required to cover the fuel for the trip.

Does the price to rent a yacht change depending on what type of boat it is?

The more remote an area is, the more expensive it will be to charter a yacht there. That’s because prices go up in areas that have fewer boats. If you were to travel somewhere like the Galapagos, which isn’t a typical yacht destination, you’d pay more than you would if you were traveling to the Caribbean.

How much do I tip the crew when reviewing my yacht charter expenses?

It’s not required that you tip your crew, but it is recommended and appreciated. If you had an enjoyable experience it’s considered polite to tip your crew anywhere from 15-20% at the end of your charter.

Summer is just about here, and I think it’s the perfect time for a getaway. For me, the end of the school year calls for well-earned fun and relaxation.

If you feel the same, but pricey plane tickets and crazy long lines are not what you’re looking for, have no fear. Washington state is a worthy travel destination in its own right. And thanks to my teen’s hobby of surfing Airbnb, I have some truly unique destinations to share. These one-of-kind vacation rentals in Seattle and beyond are worth checking out (or rather, checking into).

The Storybook House

Location: Seattle, Washington

Guest accommodations: This rental can host six guests with two bedrooms, five beds and a crib, and one bathroom.

A family that reads together, stays here! This delightful vacation cottage near West Seattle’s Alki Beach brings children’s literature to life. The vibe is happy, creative and out of the ordinary. The creation of artist and mom Marianne Brockhaus, The Storybook House is made up of five themed rooms that each feature a well-known children’s book and space to cuddle and read.

As you enter, you are immediately immersed in “Good Night Moon,” right down to the mittens hanging to dry and a painting of the cow jumping over the moon. Images from “Harold and the Purple Crayon” and “Where the Wild Things Are” fill the walls of the two bedrooms, one with a bunk bed and trundle. Enter the bathroom and the world of “The Little Prince.” (Don’t miss the vintage claw foot tub.) And the kitchen, rightfully so, portrays images and colors from “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.” Any family who loves these stories will feel right at home. Alki Beach, West Seattle Arcade, and Whale Tail Park offer other family activities within walking distance. Dogs are welcome (one max).

Olalla Forest Retreat

Location: Olalla, Washington

Guest accommodations: The larger side of the house can host eight guests with three bedrooms, five beds and 2.5 bathrooms. Smaller families can opt for the other side of the main house (two guests) or the guest suite (four guests).

Magic, wonder and a comfy place to sleep awaits you in the Olalla forest . Visit this enchanted cottage to jump start your children’s creative juices (forget Roblox!) and take a break from the grind of city life. This cottage is straight out of a storybook. For renting, the main house is divided into two units and a guest suite. The larger wing of the main house can accommodate up to eight guests, while the smaller wing sleeps two. The guest suite has a charming fireplace and interior, although the confines are a bit cozy.

No matter which accommodations you choose here, you can step outside into a lush, fern-filled cedar forest with a clear, flowing creek to stretch your legs. You will wear a parent badge of honor for taking your kids off the grid into this magical world of chasing frogs by the pond and eating fresh Northwest blackberries and salmon berries right off of the bush. This fairytale stay is close enough to go for a weekend — just across Puget Sound by ferry — and will undoubtedly be filled with nature exploration, family connection and pure imagination.

Jurassic Retreat

Location: Washougal, Washington

Guest accommodations: This rental can host 12 guests with four bedrooms, eight beds and two bathrooms. It’s probably for the best that Jurassic Park isn’t real. But parents can offer kids the next best (and much safer) thing at the pet-friendly Jurassic Retreat in Washougal, Washington. Life-size T. rex, velociraptor and triceratops movie props dot the grounds of this rustic-industrial lodge house.

Parents will appreciate the hot tub, full kitchen and laundry amenities, while kids will marvel at a dinosaur skull mounted in the great room, dinosaur-themed artwork and a huge TV. It even has bunk beds. And for the family who wants to explore the great outdoors on their getaway, there are nearby hiking trails and state parks.

Lavender Castle

Location: Sequim, Washington

Guest accommodations: This rental can host 12 guests with two bedrooms, five beds and two bathrooms.

Once upon a time, in a land not too far away (only 1 mile from the center of Sequim), there was a fairy-tale castle surrounded by lavender. Feel like royalty sitting in front of the central hearth or climbing the circular stair to your medieval-themed bedroom. Kids will appreciate the provided dress-up clothes and castle-themed movie collection — just remember, the swords and armor are for display only.

For more adventure, head to nearby Carrie Blake Park and play on the playground, check out the fishing pond or skate at the park.

Mineral Schoolhouse

Location: Mineral, Washington

Guest accommodations: This rental can host 16 guests with six bedrooms, 10 beds and two bathrooms.

It’s okay to fall asleep in these classrooms (and even the principal’s office). This former elementary school near Mount Rainier was built in 1947 and has retained much of the original feel. The large rooms and outdoor field make it perfect for a family reunion.

Play piano or project a movie in the library (or just lounge in the comfy chairs), make big meals in the fully stocked kitchen, and throw a dance party in the gym. You can barbecue and make s’mores outside or roam the 4-acre property with the dog. It’s located within walking distance to a fishing lake (kayak provided) and a 25-minute drive to the entrance of Mount Rainier National Park.

Historic Charming Boat

Location: Gig Harbor, Washington

Guest accommodations: This rental can host four guests with two bedrooms, two beds and one bathroom.

One of a handful of docked vacation boats in Gig Harbor, the Shamrockin will rock you to sleep at night. You can’t take the boat out, but with two kayaks available for use, you can paddle to the waterfront Anthony’s seafood restaurant when you don’t want to deal with dishes in the galley.

It should be noted that this charming little boat is far from ADA-accessible — you need to be nimble to climb aboard and to squeeze into the smaller sleeping spaces. There is a safety rail on deck, but families with small children might want to wait a few seasons.

Columbia Gorge Scenic Barn

Location: White Salmon, Washington

This farm-stay lodging may look rustic, but the inside is downright cozy. One of the bedrooms comes stocked with toys on the off chance that you’ll have downtime from all the activities the Columbia River Gorge has to offer. This quiet location outside of White Salmon has prairie views from the upstairs and views of the river from various points on the property. Walk around the property to take it all in, or laze around in the hammock while the kids play outside. If you’ve got a bigger brood, consider renting out the third floor of this old dairy barn in Arlington.

Peaceful Tree House

Location: Redmond, Washington

Guest accommodations: This rental can host four guests with one bedroom, three beds and a half-bath.

From spheres suspended by cables to luxe Scandinavian structures, the Pacific Northwest hosts an abundance of tree house rentals. Looking very much like a child’s idea of the perfect secret clubhouse in the trees, The Squirrel’s Nest hits the sweet spot at 280 square feet and is nestled 15 feet above the ground between two fir trees. Accessed by a spiral staircase, the tree house sleeps four with a queen and two single beds. There’s a loft and two balconies, but only a half-bath. Older kids will love the forest adventure, but the design of the tree house means it’s not suitable for kids younger than 2.

Iconic Union Skyhouse

Location: Union, Washington

Guest accommodations: This rental can host 11 guests with three bedrooms, seven beds and 3.5 bathrooms.

Why sleep in the trees when you can rise above them? At Skyhouse , you’re not actually locked in a tower, but after a 98-stair ascent to the Skyroom, you might choose to stay up top rather than return to the main house at ground level. After all, once you’re there, you can take in the bird’s-eye views of Hood Canal and Olympic Mountains on three sides of the Skyroom. But you don’t have to climb stairs to enjoy this vacation rental: Two levels of wraparound decks down below offer plenty to see and enjoy.

Great Northern Caboose, Iron Horse Inn

Location: Cle Elum, Washington

Guest accommodations: This rental can host five guests with four beds and one bathroom.

You’ll feel like you’re heading somewhere (even though you stay put) in the Great Northern Caboose . It’s one of four retired railroad cars remodeled into vacation rentals in Cle Elum. Located near the Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail and the, and the historic South Cle Elum railroad depot, this unique lodging experience is perfect for cyclists and train enthusiasts alike. The railcars are part of the Iron Horse Inn, which has ADA suites in the main building and serves farm-to-table breakfasts.

Big Idaho Potato Hotel

Location: Boise, Idaho

Guest accommodations: This rental can host two guests with one bedroom, one bed and one bathroom.

Okay, you caught us. This one isn’t in Washington. But how could we not include it? If you are heading to Idaho, consider staying in this 6-ton potato that has been recycled from the Idaho Potato Commission’s Big Idaho Potato Tour (the potato traveled to 48 states over seven years before finding its forever home on an Idaho farm). While it might look rustic on the outside, the interior has been beautifully designed and includes amenities such as power outlets for electronic devices, a mini fridge, old records to play and a custom-built bed. Next to your potato home you’ll find a silo that has been converted into a spa, and there is a jersey cow on sight waiting to be your new best friend. Who could ask for more?

Parent Getaways

Corner Getaway BnB

Guest accommodations: This rental can host two guests with one bedroom and one bathroom.

Corner Getaway is a cozy 500-square-foot hobbit hole located within walking distance of Sequim Bay State Park and the Olympic Discovery Trail. Inside, there’s a double bed in the bedroom and a cozy living room. Due to the limited space, this underground house is best reserved for a parent getaway. Outside, there’s a fire pit and a private half-acre to explore.

Stargazer Dome

If you are looking for the ultimate glamping site , you’ve found it. See the night sky like never before when you sleep in a dome on the beautiful and secluded Wildlin Farm, near Mount Rainier National Park. Only two guests are allowed and it is a bit of a splurge, so keep this one in mind for a special grown-ups only getaway.

Diminished lake levels in Austin have caused problems for boat renters during what is expected to be a busy Memorial Day weekend.

Lake levels at locations across Austin and Central Texas are in various stages of flow, according to the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water Dashboard . Most water sources around Austin appear to be at normal or steady levels, though some, including sections of the Colorado and Blanco rivers, are measuring much below normal for this time of year.

Effects of decreased lake levels have been felt by Jacob Williams, owner of ATX Boat Rentals. The company normally operates on Lake Austin and Lake Travis, and it typically allows guests to board its boats at the Mansfield Dam Park Boat Ramp.

However, that ramp has been closed since September 2023 due to low water levels, according to the Travis County Parks Department. That has forced Williams, his company and his customers to pivot ahead of Memorial Day.

"It's forced us to move everything," Williams said. "We have to tow boats now over to Lake Austin all the time instead of just going to my house (and) hopping on boats that are already in the water."

What are the lake levels at Lake Travis?

Lake Travis is about 48 feet below its normal level, according to Go Lake Travis , an informational site. That's much lower than its level at this time in 2022 and 2023, according to LakesOnline.com .

What water levels are needed to boat safely?

With water levels down in some lakes and rivers across Central Texas, it's important to know how much water you need to safely operate a boat. A variety of factors go into determining whether a body of water is deep enough to operate a boat in, but the biggest things to pay attention to are your boat's weight and the shape of its hull.

A good rule of thumb is to make sure any body of water you're boating on has at least one foot of water in it, according to BoatPowered.com . Even then, boaters should use depth monitors to ensure the water they're in is deeper than that to avoid problems.

Lake Austin to experience influx of boaters this summer

Williams said having to switch around logistical operations hasn't had a major effect on his business, but with more people being forced to use fewer lakes to rent and drive their boats, some of the lake options are becoming clogged.

"When nobody can get their boats on Lake Travis, it causes Lake Austin to be more and more packed," Williams said. "Lake Austin will always be an option, but it's not fun being on a smaller lake that's extra packed."

The city of Austin is enforcing its annual ban this Memorial Day weekend on the use of personal watercraft, wet bikes, motorized surfboards and similar devices on Lake Austin. Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards and other nonmotorized devices are allowed.

Texas Parks and Wildlife warns of low lake levels

A record 3.6 million Texans are expected to travel for Memorial Day, signaling a possible boom for tourism activities in the Lone Star State. That aligns with ATX Boat Rentals' busy season, which typically begins around May and extends into September, Williams said.

That figure, coupled with Texas having more square miles of inland waterways than any other state and nearly 560,000 registered boats, means the state's waterways are likely to be packed for the long weekend.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is warning boaters of potential hazards on waterways. A year ago, the state saw 13 boating accidents during the Memorial Day weekend, resulting in two boating fatalities and two drownings.

To avoid those types of accidents, the department is reminding boaters to operate at safe speeds and keep an eye out for low water areas and submerged objects, among other things.

Is Travis County in a drought?

Not really, but some parts of Central Texas are. Eastern parts of the county are not experiencing any drought conditions, and the western half is mostly experiencing abnormal to severe dry conditions.

Models Bella and Gigi Hadid are collectively donating one million dollars (£785,000) to support relief efforts, according to their agent. 

The money will go to Heal Palestine, Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF), World Central Kitchen (WCK), and United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).

The sisters have frequently been vocal in their support for Gaza, and their father Mohamed Anwar Hadid is himself Palestinian. 

After Hamas's 7 October attack on Israel, Gigi, 29, offered her condolences to those affected.

"My thoughts are with all those affected by this unjustifiable tragedy, and every day that innocent lives are taken by this conflict - too many of which are children," she wrote on Instagram.

"I have deep empathy and heartbreak for the Palestinian struggle and life under occupation, it's a responsibility I hold daily."

She added: "While I have hopes and dreams for Palestinians, none of them include the harm of a Jewish person."

Bella, 27, said in May that she was "devastated at the loss of the Palestinian people and the lack of empathy coming from the government systems worldwide".

The United Nations food agency has said it is unable to feed most civilians in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. 

Only 27,000 people in Rafah are currently being reached by the World Food Programme (WFP), according to its local director Matthew Hollingworth. 

Roughly one million Palestinians are living in the area, many of them displaced from other parts of Gaza. 

"The sounds, the smells, the everyday life are horrific and apocalyptic," Mr Hollingworth told journalists. 

"People sleep to the sounds of bombing, they sleep to the sounds of drones, they sleep to the sounds of war, as now tanks roll into parts of central Rafah, which is only kilometers away. And they wake to the same sounds." 

A ceasefire proposal consisting of three phases has been outlined by Joe Biden.

The French president has backed the ceasefire proposal set out by Joe Biden last night. 

Emmanuel Macron said he supported the proposal for "a durable peace" and that the war "must end". 

France is also working with partners in the region on "peace and security for all", he said. 

A high-level official has said Egypt is undertaking "intensive efforts" to "resume negotiations" for a ceasefire and hostage deal, according to a report. 

The official, quoted by Al-Qahera TV, said this was "in light of the recent American proposition". 

Last night, Joe Biden detailed a ceasefire and hostage deal proposal that he said Israel had put to Hamas. 

However, Israeli officials have told our correspondents they were "blindsided" by the announcement. 

If it works, then this will be a smart and cunning diplomatic move.

If it doesn't then President Joe Biden will look foolish.

He knows the huge risk of once again being taken for a ride by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Few knew that he was due to make this announcement.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) has said 33 of its employees have been killed in Gaza since the war began. 

Of those, it said 19 were killed "while performing their humanitarian duties". 

The organisation today buried Mohammed Jihad Abed, an employee in the disaster risk management department. 

He was killed in an Israeli attack on his home in Rafah last night. 

American, Egyptian and Israeli officials will be meeting tomorrow in Cairo to discuss the reopening of Gaza's Rafah crossing, according to a report. 

Egypt is insisting that Israel withdraw its forces from the crossing, a high-level source told Egypt's state-linked Al Qahera TV. 

Israel seized the Gaza side of the crossing last month during its offensive in the city of Rafah. 

Earlier this week, a member of Egypt's security forces was killed in a shooting incident near the Rafah crossing.

An Egyptian soldier stationed on a watchtower had reacted to seeing an armoured vehicle carrying Israeli troops cross a boundary line near the border while the soldiers pursued and killed several Palestinians, two Egyptian security sources told Reuters news agency. 

The soldier opened fire and Israeli forces fired back, killing him, the sources said, sparking an exchange of gunfire between the two sides. 

The British prime minister has praised the proposed ceasefire deal set out by Joe Biden, saying it is "welcome news". 

Rishi Sunak said he hopes Hamas "takes this opportunity to take this deal that is on the table, [and] that would ensure hostages can be released and be back with their families". 

He also expressed hopes to "flood Gaza with far more aid than has been getting in" and to "use that pause in the fighting to build a sustainable and lasting peace". 

Mr Sunak joins a growing group of world leaders expressing support for the deal, which will only put more pressure on Israel and Hamas.

Sumner police charge local man in connection with boat theft from store after Memorial Day

Police recently arrested a local man after an alleged boat theft at a local water sports store in Hendersonville.

TNT Water Sports reported to Hendersonville Police that the boat was stolen on May 23, according to a press release.

Investigators determined that a 24-year-old was behind the theft, which had originally started as a purchase but devolved into fraud, the release said.

The suspect was arrested Thursday.

He's been charged with one count of Theft of Property over $10,000 and one count of Criminal Simulation, though police say additional charges are anticipated.

He's being held at the Sumner County jail on $300,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Sumner County General Sessions Court on June 21.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or any other crimes is asked to call Hendersonville Police at 615-264-5303 or call Hendersonville Crime Stoppers at 615-594-4113.

Lehi Latter-day Saint group voyages across Utah Lake on bike-powered barge

Imagine rowing across Utah Lake on a boat made partly of wood and water barrels, powered by bicycles and propellers. One group from a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ward in Lehi just set out on such trip across the large waterway for their church activity and one unforgettable experience.

The priest quorum of the Lehi Eaglecrest 3rd Ward spent four days and three nights paddling on a 12-foot-by-30-foot barge they built themselves.

Bishop Ryan Kirby, who led the charge, says the creation came about through a combination of ideas. “It was kind of a collaborative idea of coming up with building a barge and then it turned into something that we could row across Utah Lake, and then it turned into something that we could go visit both temples and beyond the water. That’s kind of the genesis of the idea,” he said when reached Saturday while the group was on its aquatic adventure.

In early spring, 16 young men began building the barge, from collecting dozens of water barrels and coming up with the design to the actual construction. “When we started building with wood, a lot of the boys had never used a miter saw or a Skilsaw, a nail gun or even impact screw gun,” Kirby explained. “A lot of them were really reluctant in the beginning to get involved, and then by the end of it they were all really accomplished builders, actually.”

The vessel was powered by two bicycles that were connected to two propellers, which all the passengers took turns pedaling. “For every rotation of the pedals, it turns the propeller three times. So we figure we’re getting about 100 rotations per minute … out of the two propellers,” Kirby said. The barge was guided by a steering system connected to rudders on the bottom of the craft.

After months of building and preparation, along with some trial and error, Kirby and young men set off on their voyage, launching early Wednesday morning from the American Fork marina. Clocking their speed at about a mile an hour, they made it to the Lindon marina before they changed clothes for their first visit at the Orem temple.

At each marina stop, parents and ward members would pick up the group to drive them to the temples and return them back to the barge after the visit.

The journey came with its set of challenges, such as encountering rough waters and windy weather Wednesday afternoon while they were heading toward the Provo marina. The intense weather even blew away a makeshift restroom the young men built for the barge. “It was really about four hours of really, really intense storms, 6-foot swells and all that until we made it to the Provo marina, and that’s where we spent our first night,” Kirby said.

After 14 hours, they were able call it a night and rent a slip that they tied from the barge to the marina to prevent the vessel from blowing away. Following the next day’s visit the Provo City Center Temple, their journey over the next two days would take them to Saratoga Springs and the north end of Utah Lake before wrapping up the adventure Saturday morning back in American Fork.

Aside from pedaling, pulling anchors and pushing the boat at times, the experience together as a priest quorum featured bonding, campfires, fishing and a lot of teamwork to overcome obstacles on the lake.

Preston Kargis, priest quorum first assistant, was one of the young men on the vessel. He says the experience was like living a childhood dream. “Like, a lot of kids I think grow up and they’re like, ‘Oh, yeah. I want to build something like a boat or a treehouse.’ I don’t know, I guess this was an opportunity to make our childhood dreams come to reality,” he said.

He said there were a lot of lessons taught over the four-day/three-night experience, but the biggest was working together as a group. “Knowing how to work with each other (and) knowing, like, what to do in order to solve a problem that you might face,” Kargis told the Daily Herald.
