Broker's Comments
Listing this yacht is a task tinged with some sadness for me as it was I who found her, more than a decade ago, for a dear friend and his wife in which to embark on their dream voyage around the globe. This they completed in July 2015 after 7 years of adventures in several countries and continents - 41000 miles and many mountain climbs as they were both keen climbers as well as sailors. Sadly, because my friend passed away last September after a lengthy illness and his widow now wishes to part with the yacht which holds so many memories of happier times. BUT, this yacht is NOT a marina queen! She lacks the modern 'essentials' such as hot water showers, a television and DVD player, scatter cushions and flower vase. What she does offer is proven strength, updated sails, rig, motor and an ability to take you anywhere. If you are a sailor, she could be the 'magic carpet' that fulfills your blue water dream too! Elizabethan 31 Ketch

ELIZABETHAN 31
MEASUREMENTS
Description.
This is a lovely example of this rare Elizabethan classic long-keel. She was one of only a handful made as a centre-cockpit, ketch-rigged vessel. She appears very clean and dry externally and has good space on deck, with a deep cockpit and wheel steering. Her accommodation comprises a neat aft cabin with two singles; then a decent-sized saloon and galley, leading to the heads and forepeak. She will take 6 people, with ease. She does need a little TLC with having been outside all winter but is a lovely boat indeed. These boat details are subject to contract. Note: Offers on the asking price may be considered. Broker's Comments
This looks a well-kept example of a British built 1970s cruiser.
Only three owners from new, the current owner bought her as temporary accommodation last year while his new house was being built, and has only done day sailing.
The previous owner commissioned a full survey prior to purchase in Dec 2015.
New Beta engine in 2010, new roller furling and mainsail in 2016. Lots of equipment including gas detectors, valise liferaft and hot water system.
There is scope for a more contemporary interior and some updating of functional instrumentation but otherwise this Elizabethan looks great for sailing away on extended passages.

Broker Remarks
Elizabethan 31 for Sale. Built in 1973 and comissioned in 1974 she has been in the origional ownership for 42 years! The owner is now 80 and has decide to retire from sailing. A flush deck foreward of the coachroof and granny bars at the mast indicate that she was designed for offshore sailing. The high coamings and deep cockpit combine to create a feeling of great security in the Elizabethan 31. The arrangement on deck is eminently practical and reflects the boats offshore pedigree. The Elizabethan’s unconventional appearance is largely down to a vertical step in her top sides above the toe rail this allows the height of the coachroof to be kept to a minimum. The engine was replaced in 2010. Standing rigging replaced 2009.

Elizabethan 31
- August 5, 2009
This long-keeled David Thomas design from the late 1960s came in two versions. The more popular was an unusual-looking, semi-fl ush decked sloop with six berths in two cabins. A three-cabin ketch version was launched later. Headroom in the sloop peaked at 6ft (1.8m), but the ketch managed 6ft 5in (2m). She had high-volume tanks for extended cruising. The sloop had a slightly larger sail area and was undoubtedly the better performer. After the closure of Peter Webster’s yard in the mid-1970s, the moulds passed through several hands so build quality is variable.
LOA 9.5m (31ft) LWL 7.4m (24ft 2in) Beam 2.8m (9ft 4in) Draught 1.4m (4ft 8in) Displacement 5,339kg (11,700lb)

Broker's Comments
Elizabethans are traditional British yachts. The 31 has a long keel and can be sailed solo or by a couple. This boat was in the first owner's hands for 42 years and has accumulated a lot of equipment and upgrades, notably a Beta engine in 2010 and modern roller furler. A full marine survey of this boat was commissioned by the current owner in 2015 prior to his purchase. It is available at a viewing. When I asked the owner to start the engine from cold it started immediately with no visible exhaust fumes.

Broker's Comments
Preliminary Details: awaiting confirmation by owner.
This boat was designed for Jeremy Knox, secretary of the Ocean Cruising Club, to his specification. She has been all around the world from the Artic Circle to Uruguay and the changes specified such as a large chart table/navigation area, bigger-sectioned boom, oversized rigging and chainplates reflects the fact that she is designed to be sailed in all conditions. Her latest owner has continued to maintain the standard, buying new sails, and repairing the existing ones. Whether you are planning to sail along the coast or across the Atlantic, this is a fantastic, original boat. See "more photos" to view 42 internal and external photos of this vessel.
