St Tropez Yacht Charter Enquiry

The cruise was fantastic and the "Impulse" is a truly comfortable and luxurious yacht and we all enjoyed our team there very much. Everything was perfectly prepared when we arrived and the crew was amazing --- Jolande is a fantastic and creative chef who created the most delicious food always wonderfully presented (I very much enjoyed joining her early morning in St. Tropez on her shopping tour to the fish market and other lovely butchers, bakeries and cheese shop where we found the most delicious ingredients for her magical cooking), Bernadette took care of us in the most friendly and attentive way and last but not least Tim, a very helpful and insightful skipper who showed us the most beautiful places. The "Impulse" is a wonderful yacht but the crew made us feel right away at "home" amongst friends. To make a long story short, the cruise was a wonderful and most enjoyable experience and I'm sure it was not the last time I spend time on the "Impulse". Originally built in 1602 to defend the St. Tropez coastline from Spanish attack, today, this site hosts a naval museum that tracks the heritage of Saint Tropez from antiquity. Its exhibition includes a wealth of artifacts: archeological submarine equipment, models, engravings and paintings of boats, historic documents, and more.

Pampellone Beach

Since 1955, Pampellone Beach, the main beach of St. Tropez, has been at the center of St. Tropez’s fame. With its three-mile-long, sandy coast and idyllic views, it is not uncommon for Pampellone Beach to attract more than 30,000 visitors a day during the height of summer; most of which stay to watch its enchanting sunset. Inside Arev, The Colourful New Hotel In St Tropez

Admittedly, I walked into Arev, a new hotel in St Tropez, a little worse for the wear. The night before, I was at a wedding nearby where the reception started at 9pm and didn’t stop until the sun came up. But while most of my fellow guests had taken a shuttle straight to Nice Airport, I was here for an extra day. So there I was, bleary-eyed and hungover in a wrinkled dress – likely not the Vogue editor they expected, but the one they got.

Immediately, the staff sprung into action. An attendant brought me a cappuccino and a pastry basket, while another told me they would expedite my room to be ready for an early check-in. In the meantime, they gently suggested, perhaps I should check out the spa?

At a hotel like this, it’s easy to offer such personalised service. There are only 43 rooms, meaning even at full occupancy, there are under 90 guests at all times. Plus, there’s no formal check-in desk or lobby at Arev. Instead, you walk into what feels like an entryway to a house – except instead of a living room before you, there’s a restaurant and hotel bar.

Madrilenõ designer Luis Bustamante is the mastermind behind the interiors. I can best describe them as like being inside the world’s most impeccably decorated yacht: couches and chairs are covered in navy or red upholstery, whereas the ceiling is a light wood. The walls, meanwhile, are painted either royal blue or white. Stripes, in all forms, abound.

Although there are plenty of inside areas to enjoy, the outdoor terrace – delightfully shaded from the St Tropez sun – is where I decide to take my coffee. There’s an olive tree there, which a waiter tells me is over 100 years old. A garden sits beyond.

It’s tranquil here this morning, but later in the afternoon, it picks up. A DJ begins playing by the pool to the delight of several guests: this in St Tropez, a place with a world-renowned party scene, after all. At Arev, there are plenty of places to be social: their courtyard, called “Place des Oliviers”, boasts two shops, another restaurant, and a food truck, while the grounds also include a padel court. I’m in a more solitary mood, however. So I decide to go into town to do some shopping. It’s only a five-minute walk – or two-minute bike ride – away.

When I return, it’s time for dinner. The Arev team has revived the Strand Restaurant and Champagne Lounge, a legendary St Tropez restaurant that closed a few years ago. Now, it’s located at the hotel, and it is delicious : I splurge on the Dover sole and eat most of it, even though it’s big enough for two. I wash it down with a delicious blackberry mocktail. (At this point, I’m still struggling, but in my attempts at being a semi-respectable journalist, I ask the table next to me about their alcoholic beverages. “It’s the best cocktail I’ve ever had!” the woman responds enthusiastically.)

Just then, I receive an Instagram DM from my friend who was at the wedding. “Are you at the Arev?” they ask. “Me too.”

“I’m at dinner, come say hi!” I respond.

They start typing, then stop, then start typing again. “I’m already in bed. They’re so comfy here.”

And just like that, I get my check.

My room boasts the same nautical-inspired colour scheme as the social spaces in the hotel, but a little more pared back: bright colours serve as trims for a more soothing palette of whites and creams. In my bathroom are products by local company Maison St that are made from Tropezian herbs. There’s also a small patio with chaise loungers – perfect if you want to soak up the sun in private.

I climb into bed and my friend is right: with its French bed linens and Hungarian goose-down duvet and pillow, it feels like a cloud. With a switch, I activate my blackout shades. Sleep comes almost instantaneously.

The next morning, I wake up completely refreshed. I get a smoothie and avocado toast for breakfast, and text my friend if she’d like to join me. No – she’s still sleeping.

Alone, I start mulling my afternoon… and how that DJ by the pool now sounds fun, actually.

SailGP in St. Tropez : „Windflüsterer“ Nathan Outteridge führt Team Japan zum Sieg

Beim SailGP in Saint-Tropez tstellten die Teams die bisherigen Resultate der laufenden zweiten Saison in vielerlei Hinsicht auf den Kopf: Der australische 49er-Olympiasieger Nathan Outterdige und sein Team Japan konnten endlich wieder eine Regatta gewinnen. Auf dem letzten Platz dagegen landeten der bisherige Saisonüberflieger Tom Slingsby und sein Team Australien. Slingsby hatte den vorherigen SailGP in Dänemark noch gewonnen und bei der Motten-WM vor einer Woche seine Weltklasse im herausragend besetzten Feld mit 13 von 14 möglichen Siegen und dem zweiten WM-Titel in Folge auch als Solist imposant demonstriert. Doch an diesem leichtwindigen Wochenende in Frankreich lief es nicht für den sympathischen Steuermann aus Down Under. Auch Sir Ben Ainslie und sein britisches SailGP-Team waren mit Platz sechs nicht zufrieden. Vorgearbeitet haben sich der dreimalige olympische 49er-Medaillengewinner und Olympiasieger Peter Burling und sein neuseeländisches Team. Als Neueinsteiger der Saison segelten die Kiwis in Frankreich auf Platz vier hinter dem US-Team um Steuermann Jimmy Spithill auf Platz zwei und den drittplatzierten Spaniern mit dem neuseeländischen Matchrace-Weltmeister Phil Robertson und dem spanischen Nacra-17-Olympiateilnehmer Florian van Trittel an Bord.

Für die Gesamtwertung der Elite-Liga, an deren Saisonende nur die Sieger des Finallaufes eine Million US-Dollar Preisgeld kassieren, bedeuteten die überraschenden Ergebnisse vor allem ein Zusammenrücken der Teams und damit ansteigende Spannung. Nur zehn Punkte trennen die neuen japanischen Spitzenreiter und die Franzosen auf dem letzten Platz nach fünf von neun Regatten. Outteridge und seine Crew übernahmen die Führung mit 37 Punkten auf dem Konto vor den USA und Australien mit jeweils 35 Punkten. Dahinter folgt mit 34 Zählern der erfolgreichste Segler der Olympiageschichte: Der viermalige Goldmedaillen-Gewinner Sir Ben Ainslie und Team Großbritannien sind bei etwas mehr als der Halbzeit der Serie Vierte vor den aufkommenden jungen Spaniern (31 Punkte). Die Neuseeländer sind Sechste vor Dänemark und Frankreich. Für Billy Besson und sein hungriges französisches Team verlief das Heimspiel nicht nach Wunsch. Der vorletzte Platz in Saint-Tropez bremste „Les Bleus“ nach zwei starken und zwei schwächeren Vorstellungen in dieser Saison erneut aus und bescherte ihnen die rote Laterne des Schlusslichtes in der Saisonwertung.

Vor Saint-Tropez bekamen es die Profis mit leichten Spätsommerwinden wie bei der Kieler Woche zu tun. Da kam der erste Einsatz der eigens für flaue Bedingungen entwickelten alternativen Mammut-Masten von 29 Meter Länge gerade recht. Die Japaner machten das Beste aus den neuen großen Flügeln und holten ihren zweiten Sieg in dieser Saison. Damit wurde Nathan Outteridge wieder einmal seinem Spitznamen „Windflüsterer“ gerecht. Im Triple-Finale verwies sein Team die US-Mannschaft und Spanien auf die nachfolgenden Plätze. „Wir sind natürlich sehr glücklich mit dem erneuten Sieg bei einer Regatta“, sagte Outteridge, „es ist immer gut, ein Finale zu erreichen. Am Ende des Tages sind das alles gute Übungen für das wirklich wichtige und entscheidende Finale am Ende dieser Saison, in dem es um eine Million Dollar geht.“ Über die neuen Leichtwind-Riggs sagte Outteridge: „Vielleicht haben wir ein bisschen mehr mit ihnen trainiert. Das gilt aber nicht wirklich für mich. Ich hatte etwa eine Stunde mit ihnen in Aarhus. Aber Chris Draper hatte drei Tage mit ihnen. Wir wussten also, was da in Sachen größer und schwerer auf uns zukommt. Ja, man kann mit ihnen mehr Kraft generieren. Aber es war nicht wirklich einfacher, mit ihnen auf die Foils zu kommen.“

Jimmy Spithill, America’s-Cup-Gewinner und Steuermann des US-Teams, sagte: „Wir müssen Team Japan gratulieren. Es ist einfach sehr gut gesegelt. Wir freuen uns aber auch über Platz zwei in Saint-Tropez. Es ist der erste Event, an dem wir keinen Vorfall auf dem Wasser hatten, sich jemand einen Knochen gebrochen hat oder wir mit einem Objekt kollidiert sind.“ Spithill wäre nicht er selbst, wenn er nicht diese Kampfansage ergänzt hätte: „Wir haben ja noch etwas Zeit. Da kommen noch ein paar Regatten, und wir müssen einfach nur unsere Arbeit machen und die Ergebnisse einfahren, dann sind wir im Spiel um die eine Million Bucks.“ Die nächste SailGP-Regatta steigt am 9. und 10. Oktober im andalusischen Cádiz. Es ist das letzte Aufeinandertreffen der Teams in Europa, bevor der Tross nach Down Under umzieht und sich dort kurz vor Weihnachten am 17. und 18.
