Luxury yacht ties up in St George

A luxury superyacht has docked in St George for an extended visit.

Jamaica Bay , built in 2010 by German company Nobiskrug , arrived on May 27 from Palm Beach, Florida, and is scheduled to leave on July 7.

A spokesman for Bermuda Yacht Services, the agent for the vessel, registered in the Marshall Islands in the Pacific, said Jamaica Bay had travelled to Bermuda to refuel in the past and that it was a good sign the owner had decided to make an extended stay.

He added: “This time, the owners came to stay on board for a while as it’s a safe place to come to in terms of Covid-19.

“We had a good year in 2020 because no one knew where else to go – we had quite a few large yachts come here.

“It’s about normal now as things are opening up around the world. More have gone to the Med this year.”

The spokesman dismissed rumours that the 59.5 metre or 195ft yacht, docked at Ordnance Island, was owned by superstars Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

He said: “That was a stupid rumour started in the UK – it is not them.

“It’s a great discussion point for the owner and captain. The yacht has had the same owner since the beginning of its life.”

The Belfast Telegraph in Northern Ireland reported in 2016 when Jamaica Bay was docked in the city: “Rumours were rife that Beyonce and her rapper husband Jay-Z were behind the smoked glass windows of the 1,100-tonne vessel.”

Nobiskrug said the boat was “floating proof that a classic appearance and a modern interior do not have to be contradictions”.

It added the octagonal jacuzzi on the upper deck “beckons with spectacular views”.

…provides an opulent semicircular sun terrace, open towards the back, with various sun loungers, armchairs, small tables and a big oval dining table. The octagonal Jacuzzi on the upper deck beckons with spectacular views.

The first thing you notice…

…about this superyacht is without a doubt her shape. The open exterior decks oriented towards the stern. The neatly drawn, smooth and unfussy deck areas towards the bow that provide the panoramic ocean views. The canoe stern without stairs and without today’s obligatory bathing platform. Here the platform reveals only when needed and, when unfolded, lies like a terrace just above sea level.

Below deck…

…the traditional design continues with a combination of classic smooth finish and rough mahogany or furniture, panelling and the curved handrail in the stairwell. Door handles and trims of polished brass as well as carefully lit oil paintings in gold frames provide a tasteful contrast to the dark wood.

For the flooring…

…the designer alternated between dark wooden planks, parquet flooring and blue carpets.

The balanced motor yacht was created from a naval architect called Diana Yacht Design and Doros A.Argyriadis. The Construction & Naval Architecture with respect to Luxury Yacht JAMAICA BAY

The yacht's wider design collaboration came from Diana Yacht Design and Doros AArgyriadis. The technical naval architect plans are the creation of Diana Yacht Design. Motor Yacht JAMAICA BAY received her stylish interior designing from the interior design office of Terence Disdale Design / Claudette Bonville / Felix Buytendijk. In 1987 she was formally launched to celebration in Bardenfleet and following sea trials and detailing was then delivered to the new owner. Schiffs-Und Bootswerf Fr Schweers (Lurssen Group) completed their new build motor yacht in Germany. Her hull was built out of steel. The motor yacht superstructure component is fabricated mostly with aluminium. With a width of 9.08 metres or 29.8 feet JAMAICA BAY has fairly large size. She has a reasonably deep draught of 3.05m (10ft). She had refit improvement and alteration work undertaken in 2004.

The motor yacht subsumes two CATERPILLAR diesel engine(s) and can find a impressive maximum limit speed at 16 knots. The engine of the ship gives 1465 horse power (or 1078 kilowatts). Her total HP is 2930 HP and her total Kilowatts are 2156. She is driven by twin screw propellers. With respect to the ship’s stabalisers she was supplied with Vosper. As for bow thrusters she uses Schottel. Her impressive cruising speed is 14 knots which offers a range of 3600.

 The interiors are very traditional in dark mahogany with deep blue carpeting or wooden flooring and there is a very smooth transition from the guest areas to the well appointed crew accommodation. The accommodation is spaciously divided with the owner’s suite placed forward on the main deck, just ahead of the equally grand VIP Suite, both equipped with whirlpool bathtubs in large bathrooms. The four guest cabins on the lower deck are situated around the main staircase that rises through the vessel with its traditional mahogany balustrade, reaching to the sky lounge.

Nobiskrug currently has four more yachts under construction and will shortly deliver Sycara V, to be presented at the Monaco Yacht Show.

Exiled russian oligarch’s 257’ superyacht amaryllis seen towed through palm beach.

The 257’ superyacht Amaryllis apparently owned by exiled Russian oligarch Andrey Borodin was towed past Palm Beach, FL on Friday morning, according to a visual account by CorpGov .

The yacht, whose owner is frequently cited as Mr. Borodin by enthusiast publications, moved slowly through the Lake Worth lagoon where bridges were raised for its passage. A towboat with flashing lights about 150 feet ahead pulled the Amaryllis , built by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen in 2011.

While CorpGov could not officially confirm Mr. Borodin as the owner of the vessel, his wife, socialite Tatiana Korsakova, has posted dozens of Instagram photos and videos aboard the Amaryllis. A yacht broker interviewed by CorpGov confirmed that Ms. Korsakova is indeed aboard the Amaryllis in the photos and videos.

The sighting comes as billions of dollars in Russian-owned yachts have been seized around the world as a result of international sanctions. CNN has published an extensive list of seized vessels, which were taken in harbor cities including Mallorca, Spain and London.

However, it is unclear if the Amaryllis was being seized or voluntarily towed. Very large yachts often choose to be towed because bridges are required to raise for them, according to the yacht broker.

The former Bank of Moscow chief was granted political asylum in the UK in February 2013 after fleeing what he alleged to be politically-motivated fraud and embezzlement charges. Mr. Borodin would go on to be tried and convicted in abstentia in Russian Court in 2018, but not before managing to enlist a number of prominent American lawmakers to lobby Washington for a U.S. visa. Despite Russian extradition requests to the UK government, Borodin’s controversial attempts to make large donations to the NHS, and the uncovering of an assassination plot against his life, the fugitive banker remains overseas, having been granted access to his Swiss bank accounts and having made several notable London real estate purchases during his time in exile.

Mr. Borodin is widely listed as a billionaire, but his total wealth remains difficult to confirm accurately, with the governments of Switzerland and the Bahamas having been asked to help the Russian government in its legal case. In 2012, Borodin purchased the UK’s then-most expensive home, an 80-hectare 18th-century estate in Oxfordshire, for upwards of $217 million. In 2017 he was granted access to personal Swiss accounts holding a reported $378 million. The Amaryllis was purchased for a reported $120 million.

Mr. Borodin did not immediately respond to an emailed query from CorpGov , while the FBI declined to comment. An emailed query to The Department of Homeland Security was not returned.

Passengers aboard a Spirit Airlines flight from Jamaica to Florida  were told to prepare for an emergency water landing in the latest terror in the skies.

Flight NK270 was forced to return to Montego Bay shortly after take off on Sunday following a 'suspected mechanical issue'.

Video from inside the cabin shows some of the more than 200 passengers wearing life vests amid the chaos .

But the Airbus A321 landed safely back in Jamaica's Sangster International Airport and guests were able to deplane normally, according to CBS News .

Spirit added the 'mechanical issue did not affect flight safety' and the emergency landing instructions were given 'out of an abundance of caution.'

Passenger Bettina Rogers captured the pilot's announcement on a video recorded on her phone.

She said the pilot initially said there was 'nothing to be alarmed about' but five minutes later announced the plane was returning to Jamaica. 

Passengers were given a $50 credit and out on a new flight to Fort Lauderdale, where they arrived just 45 minutes behind schedule. 

Andrene Gordon spoke about the terrifying ordeal with the Jamaican outlet the Gleaner , calling it a 'near-death experience' that began with a 'beeping sound.'

'At first I was like, maybe it's because it's a new plane,' Gordon shared.

'We were there for like 25 minutes but the plane never ascended high… . The pilot said there was a slight issue, nothing major, 'so we are just gonna turn back and go to the airport.''

'We never know we would actually make it to the ground because all we were seeing was literal water… it was total chaos,' Gordon added.

'The flight attendants, I know they are trained, but they are human. They got scared, everybody was scared.'

Gordon also said the $50 credit felt like 'a slap on the face.' 

'After that near-death experience and emotional distress, Spirit wants to offer US$50 credit to use by August of this year,' Gordon told the Gleaner.

'I feel like that is a slap in the face because they put us through such a traumatic experience with an incompetent crew. That is just so unacceptable.'

Spirit has apologized to guests 'for any inconvenience.'

Just a day after the Spirit scare, a United Airlines flight aborted takeoff after the plane engine caught fire while on the taxiway at Chicago's O'Hare airport.

The Seattle bound United Flight 2091 with 148 passengers and five crew members on board was halted around 2pm Monday, according to the FAA.

Video showed clouds of black smoke pluming out of the Airbus A320 wing.

Ground crews and emergency responders 'immediately addressed' the issued and the plane was towed to the gate where passengers deplaned, reported NBC Chicago.

Meanwhile all flights were grounded at New York's JFK on Monday - an occurrence attributed to ongoing thunderstorms seen across much of the US, the FAA said.

The travel chaos comes as citizens in Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Missouri and Tennessee were all hit over Memorial Day Weekend by a bevy of twisters, heavy winds and flooding, which, so far, have killed at least 21 people.

At least 6,837 within, into, or out of the United States have been delayed and 516 cancelled, according to FlightAware.

$1 million 80-foot luxury yacht sinks off Florida coast, 2 rescued

J ACKSONVILLE, Fla. ( WNCN ) — Two people were rescued just before a $1 million luxury 80-foot sport yacht sank off the coast of Florida Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.

The incident was reported just after 11:35 a.m. about 3 miles off St. Augustine Beach, a news release from the Coast Guard said.

The operator of the Atlantis, an 80-foot sport yacht, said the vessel hit an object in the water and was sinking.

The Coast Guard sent out a boat crew to assist and coordinated with St. John’s County Fire and Rescue, which soon arrived and plucked both people from the yacht.

The Atlantis yacht appears to be a 1999 or early 2000s model of the Sunseeker Predator 80.

A larger Sunseeker Predator was featured in the 2006 James Bond film “Casino Royale.”

A 2001 Predator that is 5 feet shorter than Atlantis, which sank Saturday, is listed for sale for $975,000.

Sunseeker Predator 80 yacht, built in the United Kingdom, can accommodate up to six guests in four staterooms, with two crew members aboard.

Atlantis has two Caterpillar diesel engines and can reach a top speed of 44 kn, or 50 mph, according to data from Boat International.

A data sheet about Atlantis says the vessel is in the top 5% by speed in the world.

After Saturday’s rescue, a hazard to navigation was broadcast to alert mariners about the yacht, which could cause damage to other vessels, according to the Coast Guard.

The owner of the Atlantis will arrange for a salvage of the vessel, the Coast Guard said.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
