Mariner's Cove Marina, Gold Coast, Australia

Plans for a new, $480 million dollar avant-garde lifestyle precinct at Main Beach on the Gold Coast have been unveiled by two leading Melbourne developers, Pelligra Group and Giannarelli Group. 

The world class development will include a six star branded hotel, floating beach club, high end retail including over 5000sqm of food and beverage and a white glove super yacht marina. There will also be a luxurious day spa and well-being centre.

Located on the Mariners Cove Marina and Retail centre, and spanning approximately 105 metres along the broadwater between Marina Mirage and the Southport Yacht Club, the prime landholding comprises over 4ha of land and seabed combined. This will have the capacity to house around 70 luxury super yachts, each one up to 45 metres in length. Passengers will be given full access to the adjoining six star hotel facilities, with Rolls Royce golf buggies to shuttle passengers to and from their yachts. The marina will also include the already established helipad for guests arriving to and from domestic and international airports and a high grade fuel station that will accept vessels up to 65 metres in length.

On land, the concept is equally impressive. There are plans for a 600 space carpark and a 170 room hotel by a globally renowned six star hotel brand, whose identity at this stage remains commercial in confidence. The hotel’s offering will include an exclusive stunning 40 metre rooftop infinity pool for hotel guests only which will run to the water’s edge, a 2000sqm rooftop event space and a 900sqm ballroom. Talks are currently underway with several of Australia’s leading restaurant groups who will headline the precinct’s expansive food and  beverage offering most of which enjoys frontage to the water and the floating beach club.

First details of this ground breaking development are now being released by the Melbourne-based duo, following the recent acquisition of the Mariners Cove site in an off-market transaction.

In jointly unveiling the project, Pelligra Group Chairman, Ross Pelligra and Giannarelli Group Director, Dion Giannarelli, revealed that significant resources had been dedicated to ensuring that Mariners Cove would contribute strongly to the future of the Gold Coast, both as a tourism drawcard and a central place for locals to gather and enjoy.

“We are exceptionally excited to embark on this joint venture,” said Mr Pelligra. “High-end developments like this, not only draw in more tourism, but also provide jobs and fuel the economy overall, making the Gold Coast an exceptionally appealing place for both work and play.”

Mr. Pelligra further stated “The Gold Coast has always held appeal, but now, with Queensland experiencing its biggest population boom in 16 years, the quality of development and investment is taking on a whole new energy, especially in and around Main Beach. We believe our project is going to be the final string in the bow and will make a mark on the Gold Coast as one of the greatest luxury destinations in the world.” 

Mr Pelligra and Mr Giannarelli will submit their development plan to Gold Coast City Council this year and are confident that it will be well received. 

The grand opening of the complex is anticipated to be in Spring 2025.

A development application has been lodged for a new landmark 6 star luxury hotel and marina within the redevelopment of the Marina Cover site, located at 60 and 64 Seaworld Drive, Main Beach, Gold Coast (The Spit).

The proposal includes a public pedestrian link from Seaworld Drive to the public boardwalk over Broadwater. The public boardwalk is provided along the entire marina frontage to allow pedestrian connections to the hotel’s ground floor which provides high end retail shops, bars, and restaurant tenancies amongst a public plaza space.

Main Beach Superyacht Marina to Bring Mystery International Luxury Brand to Gold Coast

The lively Gold Coast is one of Australia’s most popular destinations for marine enthusiasts. Apart from the endless sandy beaches and ocean-based theme parks, there are canals, rivers and of course the open ocean.

These picturesque superyacht playgrounds are lined with luxurious properties, many of which feature private jetties. It’s therefore little surprise that a world-class superyacht marina that will have superyacht berths for vessels up to 75 metres in length is in the pipeline.

Dion Gianarelli, Director of the Main Beach Superyacht Marina, sat down for a conversation with The Market Herald Fancy, From The Deck’s Iolande Skinner at the Sydney International Boat Show 2022.

He talked about property development, the need for more and larger berths on the Gold Coast and a mystery “six-star” luxury brand that will soon make its debut in the seaside destination.

Acquiring the iconic landmark site was a coup for his development company and Dion is very excited about the future possibilities for superyachts on the Gold Coast. Main Beach Superyacht Marina will have a total of seven berths for superyachts over 60 metres, up to a maximum of 75 metres in length.

Along with the usual dock master services, the marina will provide an opulent experience for guests, servicing their every need and providing a kind of “yacht service,” which Gianarelli describes as room service, but for yachts.

You can imagine sitting in your jacuzzi after a day cruise, watching the sunset while sipping champagne, or engaging the services of the on-site laundry and drying off with fresh towels after you have finished your soak.

Gianarelli thinks it is these experiences the Gold Coast is lacking and the introduction of a world-class superyacht marina for the Gold Coast will make the destination a more attractive one for superyacht owners, charterers and guests.

We think there’s definitely a need for larger vessels to have berthing options on the Gold Coast and there’s so many people coming now from overseas, back to Australia and enjoying our beautiful waterways. Dion sees a future for his brand in the marina development industry, describing the recreational superyacht industry as a “sexy industry to be a part of” and plans on building upon the Main Beach Superyacht Marina brand.

Charters have a promising future ahead of them and Gianarelli said that in his experience, markets are changing. People showing interest in buying larger superyachts and particularly those looking to charter one are realising very quickly that costs are coming down and the superyacht experience is becoming more accessible.

The Gold Coast will welcome Australia’s third Ritz-Carlton hotel in Australia by 2026, following an agreement between Marriott International and Australian property developers Pelligra Group and Giannarelli Group.

The Ritz-Carlton, Gold Coast will be part of a $480-million new waterfront development at Mariner’s Cove, which aims to reinvigorate Australia’s sixth-largest city as a luxury travel destination.

The lavish waterfront precinct is crowned by a 70-berth superyacht marina, to be called Main Beach Superyacht Marina (MBSM), already offering berths for vessels up to 75 metres.

Marriott International Vice President of Hotel Development, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific, Richard Crawford, said the resort will set a new standard for luxury accommodation in the area.

“Marriott International is recognised as the global leader in the upper upscale and luxury segments. This signing with Pelligra Group and Giannarelli Group is a profound indication of strong investor confidence, buoyed by a resurgent affluent domestic travel market.”

“Once opened, the resort expects to set a new benchmark for luxury on Australia’s Gold Coast with the property’s enviable waterfront location.”

This sentiment was echoed by Giannarelli Group Chief Executive Officer, Dion Giannarelli. “The Gold Coast has always been Australia’s most prestigious playground.

“When completed, The Ritz-Carlton, Gold Coast anticipates elevating the city’s tourism pedigree to an entirely new level of energy and quality, redefining Main Beach and The Spit.”

Situated in the heart of Mariner’s Cove on the Broadwater side of The Spit, The Ritz-Carlton, Gold Coast will be a gateway to some of the city’s most popular tourist attractions, including a host of waterfront restaurants and bars, the Broadwater, and expanses of famed white sand beaches.

Expected to feature 150 elegantly appointed guest rooms and suites, including a planned 275-square-metre Ritz-Carlton Suite, the hotel anticipates offering the legendary hotel experience the global brand is known for.

Guests will also be able to experience refined dining establishments, with a signature restaurant featuring semi-opened kitchens, cafe, and three bars including a Lobby Lounge, destination bar and poolside bar. An outdoor rooftop pool, fitness centre and signature Ritz-Carlton Spa will deliver innovative and revitalising wellness experiences to leisure guests.

With plans calling for 587 square metres of function space, including a 512-square-metre ballroom, and 261-square-metres of outdoor pre-function space, the hotel will cater to meetings and events for large corporate gatherings or intimate private groups.

“The Ritz-Carlton, Gold Coast will mark the third Marriott International property on the Gold Coast, joining our existing hotels JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort & Spa and Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort Gold Coast,” said Marriott International’s Area Vice President for Australia, NZ, and Pacific, Sean Hunt.

“It is a momentous signing, not only for our growing Gold Coast portfolio, where Marriott dominates the luxury accommodation offering, but for the expansion of the Ritz-Carlton brand in Australia.”

The brand first relaunched with The Ritz-Carlton, Perth in 2019, and The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne is slated to open its doors in early 2023.

On the water adjacent to the new Ritz Carlton Gold Coast, the Main Beach Superyacht Marina (MBSM) stretches approximately 105 metres along the calm Broadwater, with a capacity up to 70 luxury superyachts across 2.8 hectares of seabed.

Main Beach is located within moments of the ocean, a short 10-minute walk to the light rail and a leisurely drive from Coolangatta Airport. It is a coastal hub synonymous with leisure and style that sits north of Surfers Paradise and is home to some of Queensland’s most popular tourist attractions.

The Spit forms part of the Queensland government superyacht strategy and will be a place for communities and visitors to gather and connect with leisurely immersive experiences within a world-class, pristine marine environment.

The ultra-luxury development on the Southport Spit is being developed by Gordon Corp founder Tim Gordon and Bruce Mathieson Group baron Bruce Mathieson. The project marks the first significant development of The Spit since the establishment of Palazzo Versace over two decades ago.

The Rothelowman -designed development comprises 24 waterfront two, three, and four-bedroom apartments and villas, as well as the exclusive Mataray Health Club and a 67-berth superyacht marina and resort facilities. The standout feature is The Mantaray Club, an exclusive on-water lounge accessible only to members.

The Mantaray Club, positioned as the superyacht precinct's focal point, includes an arrival and departure lounge, restaurant and bar facilities, sun deck, and private dining and meeting rooms.

The Mantaray Marina | Residences

Members of The Mantaray Club will also enjoy access to general superyacht marina services, boat and berth hire, and concierge services. 

The superyacht marina itself, designed to 'Platinum' Gold Anchor standards, offers long and short-term berth leasing, immediate ocean passage through the Gold Coast Seaway, year-round deep-water access, top-notch marina operations, on-site security, and full-service concierge.

The 250 sqm Mantaray Health Club offers premium gym and training facilities, hot and cold-water plunge pools, yoga, sauna, and steam rooms. 

Residents will also benefit from a dedicated concierge service offering personalised assistance, reinforced by 24/7 onsite security personnel and a state-of-the-art CCTV system.

The mixed-use project has already seen two $12 million villas sold to one Gold Coast family on its launch late last year.

In Miami, everyone wants a piece of the waterfront. Condos, restaurants and private homes all try to stake claim on the ever-disappearing property by bay (and sea). Luckily, in a water-centric city like Miami, marinas take up a good portion of this prime real estate .

With dockage available in every waterfront neighbourhood, you can decide what amenities you seek, how much privacy you desire and which part of Miami you’d like to be based to explore this exciting city .

1. One Island Park

The One Island Park compound opened in Miami Beach in November last year and is designed solely for superyachts and is able to accommodate yachts measuring up to 244 metres in its deep water berths.

Visitors to One Island Park will enjoy a vast range of VIP concierge services, as well as a high level of exclusivity. The new compound was designed to showcase both the area and the best standards of service, meaning it will become an extremely popular spot for private owners, while its location means that clients can enjoy the thriving art scene, the beaches and the nightlife of Miami.

Island Gardens

The new superyacht marina Island Gardens Deep Harbour is situated on Watson Island and is capable of berthing 50 superyachts measuring up to 167 metres. The retail and residential aspects of the marina are not expected to be completed for the next two years, but the marina is fully operational with 1,524 linear metres of capacity with drafts of 5.4-6.4 metres deep.

Coconut Grove

Home to the U.S. Sailing Center and multiple yacht clubs, Coconut Grove is a hotbed for yachting activity. The 582-slip Dinner Key Marina, which survived the worst of the hurricane damage in September, sits right in the centre, and only steps away from the shops and restaurants of “The Grove.” The protected marina hosts yachts up to 38 metres with two metres of draft.

Sea Isle Marina

The Sea Isle Marina and Yachting Centre is a great place for yachts up to 42 metres to tie-up and be in close distance to what downtown has to offer with the Adrienne Arsht Center for the performing arts and the arena where the Miami Heat play right around the corner. There are also great restaurants right on site, as well as fuel and a ship’s store.

Miamarina at Bayside

Surrounded by shops, dining and even an outdoor auditorium, the Miamarina at Bayside is a lively marina. The marina has 130 slips and hosts yachts up to 60 metres and offers easy access to both the Atlantic through Government Cut and to Biscayne Bay and the Florida Keys to the south.

Epic Marina

Epic Marina is surely one of the plushest in Miami and despite being hit hard during Hurricane Irma, is once again capable of hosting superyachts up to 95 metres. In the shadow of Miami’s luxe Epic Residences & Hotel, the marina isn’t short on high-end amenities. Guests can enjoy sumptuous meals at on site restaurants Area 31 and Zuma.

Sunset Harbour Yacht Club

Set off the Venetian Causeway on Biscayne Bay, Sunset Harbour Yacht Club offers ample dockage outside of the hubbub of the Miami Beach scene. Catering to yachts up to 45 metres with 125 deepwater slips, the designated “clean marina”, an initiative started by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, has some great amenities including a pool and fitness centre. Fuel can be delivered and it is loacated right around the corner from a large Publix supermarket for easy provisioning.

Indian Creek Marina

Across from Miami’s iconic and historic Fountainbleau Resort on Collins Avenue, Indian Creek Marina at the Fountainbleau Resort (home to one of the best hotel spas to visit in Miami ) can host yachts up to 76 metres. In February, this waterway is lined with yachts during the Miami Yacht and Brokerage Show. The rest of the year, it’s open to transiting yachts and makes a great destination marina that is in close distance to Miami’s finest spas and eateries, as it's located right across from the beach.

Miami Beach Marina

In the south end of Miami Beach, the full-service Miami Beach Marina has 400 slips for yachts up to 76 metres. The marina offers direct access to Government Cut, a manmade shipping channel between Miami Beach and Fisher Island, which allows better access to the Port of Miami. Likewise, it’s only moments to the best of what South Beach has to offer; the beach and the best restaurants, nightlife and spas are just steps away.

Private Marinas

Yachtsmen seeking a private marina experience while in Miami should look no further than these havens:

The exclusive private island community of Fisher Island Club, across from Miami Beach, is ‘members only’, but sponsorship (from a member or the dockmaster) allows temporary membership for yachts up to 76.2 metres in length to tie up in the marina. And their owners can enjoy all the perks of the club, including the beach club, spa, tennis centre, hotel, restaurants and PB Dye-designed golf course.

Midway between Miami and Fort Lauderdale in Aventura, Turnberry Isle Marina Yacht Club accommodates 117 yachts up to 45-metres. Amenities include 24-hour security, a private ocean club, pool, spa, several restaurants, and two 18-hole Raymond Floyd-designed championship golf courses.

Main Beach Holiday Destination

Nestled between the sparkling blue waters of the Southport Broadwater and the magnificent Pacific Ocean, Main Beach is only minutes north of the heart of Surfers Paradise .

The suburb was named so as it was the town's main surf beach with visitors using the ferry to access it. The area truly became a holiday destination after the Jubilee Bridge (now called the Sundale Bridge) was built in 1926 leading to holiday houses springing up and an influx of beachgoers.

Things to do in Main Beach

The water is this destination's best asset with the white sandy beaches of Main Beach to the east and the calm waters of the Broadwater to the west. Ever wanted to take to the skies like a bird or a superhero? Hire a water jetpack and do just that as you hover over the Broadwater. In Main Beach, you'll find the Gold Coast's only jetpack experience which has had customers as young as 7 and as old as 83 enjoying this cool contraption.

Join a  Whale Watching tour leaving from Sea World or Marina Mirage and travel 20 minutes out to the Humpback Highway. View these majestic animals and look carefully as you might just get lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Migaloo, the rare white whale who passes by the Gold Coast on his annual migration.

The hostel also offers free laundry, basketball, volleyball and bodyboards. The tour desk can offer sightseeing advice and arrange tours. Marina Mirage offers visitors a truly unique shopping experience with over 70 fashion boutiques, jewellers and homewares stores located in an open-air centre. The goods might be pricey but store owners are understanding if you leave a trail of sand in the changerooms. 

There are a smattering of shops on Tedder Avenue selling high-end accessories, fashions and even real estate. There are a number of hair salons and beauty clinics to keep you looking fabulous on your holiday. 

The Main Beach Bakery has been selling their baked goods and fresh sandwiches since 1976 and it is a favourite with the local surfers and holidaymakers. Nothing beats a freshly baked pie from Main Beach bakery after a big morning in the surf! Take your lunch away or enjoy sitting and watching the passing parade on Tedder Avenue.

The heritage-listed Main Beach Pavilion sits overlooking the beach and it is a great spot for a snack, breakfast or lunch. On the weekends the cafe is buzzing with locals stopping in for a coffee on the way to the surf and visitors soaking up the sun while sharing a bowl of hot chips. The menu has recently been changed to provide a fresher approach and we hear the bacon and egg roll is a must! Next door is the Southport Surf Life Saving Club which opens its doors to visitors wanting to enjoy a good meal at great prices. 

Unfortunately, the once trendy and vibrant  Tedder Avenue , known for its dining, bars and shopping has declined a bit over the last few years but with all the redevelopment in the area, we think this street is set to come back to its former glory. That's not to say the street is all doom and gloom, the old guard of Main Beach has kept their favourite restaurants, cafes and bars alive. Anyone staying in Main Beach would be remiss not to try the Crab Lasagne on the menu at award-winning restaurant, Shuck .

The waterside restaurants of Marina Mirage are located a hop, skip and jump from Main Beach and offer great food with amazing views. Sit back and relax over a meal and enjoy the pelicans and superyachts glide by.

Dignities, celebrities and royalty join the Gold Coast's 'It Crowd' for a day of Polo by the Sea just up the road from the centre of Main Beach at Doug Jennings Park. The event is sponsored by luxury car company, Ferrari and is part of the largest polo series in the world, the Urban Polo circuit. Tickets to the Main Beach Polo Club don't run cheap but your entry includes food and alcohol with a great vantage point to view the match.

Changing pace, Sea World Resort & Water Park lights up with the SpongeBob SplashBash LED light show. Guests at the hotel can dance and sing along to their favourite SpongeBob songs every night from 8 pm.
