Dear Etchells Sailors:

On behalf of the members and officers of Biscayne Bay Yacht Club and the members and officers of Etchells Fleet 20, it is my pleasure to welcome fellow Etchells sailors, Race Committee volunteers, Judges, friends and family to our Club and Fleet for the Etchells Biscayne Bay Series. Please enjoy our facilities and hospitality and treat it as though it were your own Club.

Etchells Fleet 20 is one of the most active Etchells fleets in North America. Our members consist of past World Champions and a very active group of Etchells competitors who have traveled North America and the world for major Etchells events.

Our Etchells Series has been one of the major Etchells regatta series since 1994. The quality of both racing and competitors has attracted Etchells sailors from all over the world. We typically have between 50 and 90 boats on the starting line. Our Race Committee team from Biscayne Bay Yacht Club headed by PRO's Dave Brennan and Mark Foster is world renown. Warm weather, warm water and good winds welcome you to Miami!

I wish each competitor the best of luck and fair winds. I hope you all enjoy your visit with us both on and off the water.

Boat Storage:

Storage for Visiting Etchells at BBYC Biscayne Bay Yacht Club will again offer seasonal storage for approximately 25 visiting Etchells. Storage reservation forms will be available in July and priority will be on a first come - first served basis. BBYC storage request forms must be accompanied with properly registered and paid entries. Proof of insurance is also required. 2024 Star Western Hemisphere Championship April 11-14, 2024

Miami, FL, April 14, 2024 - The 2024 Star Western Hemisphere Championship, hosted by Biscayne Bay Yacht Club in Miami, concluded today with an exhilarating display of sailing skills and tight competition. With 33 teams representing 7 nations, the event showcased fantastic Star boat racing over three intense days of competition.

Six races in two days for the 2024 Star Western Hemisphere in Miami

Another three races were sailed on Day Two of the 2024 Star Western Hemisphere in Miami, Florida. A wavy Biscayne Bay offered a great stage for a regatta with a steady Northeasterly breeze blowing from 11 knots in the first run (race 4 of the Championship) to 18 in the last one – sixth overall.

Three races on Day One in Miami despite the changing wind conditions

Day One of the 2024 Star Western Hemisphere wasn’t an easy one, both for the competitors nor for the Race Committee. The first race was sailed with a dying breeze still coming from 330 that didn’t even allor all of the 33 teams to finish within the time limit, then, after quite the wait on the water, the wind switched and for race 2 and 3 came from 130, starting light and then picking up.

The 2024 Star Western Hemisphere will start tomorrow in Miami, Florida, hosted by Biscayne Bay Yacht Club. 33 entries representing 7 nations will show up on the starting line. Among them the actual 2023 Star Western Hemisphere Champions Augie Diaz and Bruno Prada, who will give their best to keep the title, using the home waters as a competitive edge.

Attended a wedding here and it was over the top amazing! But I'm not sure if the food and service is reflective of the club, or the caterers who organized such an amazing event. So this review is really that of the wedding I suppose. The setting is beautiful on the water with a multitude of boats, yachts and sailboats. The simple two level facility is simple, understated and elegant.

What an impressive venue for an event. This yacht club dates from 1887 and is one of the oldest private clubs in Miami. It backs up right on Biscayne Bay, with a stunning building, and a lawn out back that slopes to the water. Looking around you're thinking "bet the original Vizcaya owner hung out with his buddies here." They were pretty cagey when I asked what the membership fees were: I think the silent non-answer meant "if ya gotta ask ya can't afford it, buddy" LOL It's easy to miss the entrance turn, there are stone pillars and a small roundabout then a gate with a security code. For an event they either give the code or have it open with a valet. There's self parking but on a fairly dark lawn away from the front door. The event was quite a classy affair in a classy venue. A creative black tie and/or costume was encouraged for a fundraiser called the Beaux Arts Ball (benefits the Lowe Museum at University of Miami).

I went to a wedding held at this location. They had the ceremony outside close to sunset. The bride, groom, and water view was beautiful. The weather was perfect, it was windy so it was like outdoor AC. They have a good amount of green space in the back that overlooks the water. Perfect for outdoor events!
