Yacht Rental Jacksonville

Oh, the splendor of Jacksonville's waters, its maritime traditions, and the sight of a beautifully crafted yacht grazing its waves - truly a spectacle to behold. Yet, it's not merely the aesthetics that draw us in, it's the intricate dance of nature and human ingenuity.

Why Rent a Yacht in Jacksonville?

Yacht Rental Jacksonville

It's the rhythmic hum of the Atlantic Ocean, whispering stories of its depth and diversity, that beckons us towards this coastal spectacle. Jacksonville's coastline is not simply a geographical boundary; it is an ecological marvel, a union of land and sea, underpinning an environment rich in biodiversity. As you traverse its waterways on your rented yacht, you're not just voyaging through water, you are traversing through centuries of natural evolution and human history.

The St. John's River, for instance, the city's aquatic spine, offers you a unique journey through a range of ecosystems, starting from its marshy headwaters and meandering through to the expansive Atlantic. As you sail down this river, you witness a stunning tableau of flora and fauna, alongside a fascinating display of human architecture.

Why rent a yacht in Jacksonville? The answer lies not just in the thrill of navigation or the luxury it provides, but in the opportunity it presents - to immerse oneself in an environment where nature's grandeur dances in perfect harmony with human innovation.

Noteworthy Nautical Destinations in Jacksonville

The vast, captivating waterscapes of Jacksonville offer a multitude of exquisite locales to explore on your yacht. Each with its unique charm and story, these destinations invite you on a journey of discovery and appreciation.

🚢 St. John's River

Sailing up the St. John's River, you witness an intriguing amalgamation of the natural and urban landscape. Starting from downtown Jacksonville, you pass by the stunning city skyline, which gradually fades into a dense canopy of cypress and oak trees. You can dock your yacht at the Metropolitan Park Marina to attend events or visit the Museum of Science and History nearby.

🚢 The Jacksonville Beaches

Your yachting adventure in Jacksonville would be incomplete without a venture to its delightful beaches. Anchoring your yacht off the coast of Neptune Beach or Atlantic Beach allows you to indulge in their sandy stretches and clear waters. The vibrant nightlife and restaurants here are also worthy of exploration.

🚢 Fort George Island

Enveloped in rich history and natural beauty, Fort George Island presents a different facet of Jacksonville's charm. You may anchor your yacht at the Kingsley Plantation, a historical marvel dating back to the 19th century. The island's diverse ecosystem, filled with marshes, maritime forests, and wildlife, is another major draw for nature enthusiasts.

🚢Amelia Island

North of Jacksonville, Amelia Island is a worthy detour for any yachting excursion. Its historic downtown, Fernandina Beach, offers quaint Victorian architecture and an array of charming shops and restaurants. Mooring your yacht at the Fernandina Harbor Marina allows you to explore this captivating island and its unique attractions, like the Amelia Island Lighthouse and Fort Clinch State Park.

🚢 The Intracoastal Waterway

Last but certainly not least, the Intracoastal Waterway - a network of rivers, canals, and bays - is a yachting paradise. The meandering waterway offers a multitude of secluded anchorages, perfect for those seeking a peaceful respite. One such gem is the Sisters Creek, a serene tributary lined with mangroves, offering you an idyllic setting to drop your anchor.

🚢 Guana River

A natural haven, Guana River State Park, is an excellent place to anchor your yacht for the day. Its serene waterways lead you into a world of untouched natural beauty, where one can observe an array of bird species, including the roseate spoonbill and wood stork. The Tolomato River offers opportunities for fishing and photography alike.

🚢 Mayport Village

Mayport Village, located at the confluence of the St. Johns River and Atlantic Ocean, is a historic fishing village that maintains its old-world charm. A journey on your yacht to this quaint locale would allow you to engage with the local fishing community, savor the fresh catch of the day, and explore the iconic Mayport Lighthouse.

🚢 Pablo Creek

Nestled between the Intracoastal Waterway and St. Johns River, the Pablo Creek offers a quiet retreat from the bustling city. It is a delightful place to moor your yacht for a day of fishing, or perhaps to enjoy a peaceful sunset with a panoramic view of the surrounding marshlands.

🚢 Black Creek

Sailing up the Black Creek, a tributary of the St. Johns River, brings you closer to Jacksonville's diverse ecology. Its densely forested shores and calm waters are a haven for wildlife, including ospreys, manatees, and alligators. The secluded anchorages here provide an excellent spot for those seeking tranquility amidst nature.

🚢 Ortega River

Finally, the Ortega River offers a blend of upscale residential scenery, marinas, and pockets of unspoiled nature. A journey on your yacht through this river lets you admire some of Jacksonville's finest waterfront homes, interspersed with views of lush flora and fauna. You could dock your yacht at the Ortega Landing Marina to explore the nearby Riverside and Avondale historic districts.

These destinations, nestled within Jacksonville's vast waterscape, offer experiences that extend beyond the thrill of navigation. They serve as gateways to the city's diverse natural environments, its rich history, and vibrant culture - making them must-visit spots on your yachting journey.

Considerations Before Renting a Yacht in Jacksonville

Yacht Rental Jacksonville

As you consider stepping onto a yacht, there are numerous factors to bear in mind. Firstly, the size and type of vessel are crucial. A mammoth of a ship may seem appealing, but a smaller craft might offer you more intimacy with nature and greater ease in maneuverability, particularly in the narrower tributaries.

The time of the year is also a significant consideration. Jacksonville's climate is generally favorable, but one must be aware of the possible fluctuations and plan accordingly. The warmer months offer a splendid opportunity to observe migratory birds and aquatic life.

Additionally, the knowledge of the local waters and weather patterns is invaluable. While nature can be our greatest ally, it can also become our greatest challenge. Hence, it's crucial to respect its unpredictability and approach it with a sense of curiosity and caution.

Finally, safety must never be overlooked. A yacht, while a testament to human engineering, also carries its risks. Regular maintenance, safety gear, and a well-trained crew are paramount to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey.

The Ideal Yacht for Jacksonville Waters

The choice of a yacht is a deeply personal decision, influenced by a multitude of factors ranging from your sailing expertise to your preference for luxury and comfort. However, when sailing in Jacksonville, one must consider the unique characteristics of the local waters.

A mid-sized motor yacht, between 40 to 60 feet, is an excellent choice for these waters. Their size ensures a fine balance between luxury and agility, making it ideal for both the wide expanse of the Atlantic and the narrower passages of the St. John's River.

These yachts also come equipped with sophisticated navigation systems, making them particularly suitable for areas where weather conditions can change swiftly. The interiors often bear an intimate setting, allowing you to enjoy the comfort while remaining connected to the surrounding environment.

In essence, the best yacht for Jacksonville's waters is one that allows you to immerse yourself in the region's stunning natural beauty while ensuring comfort, safety, and maneuverability.

In conclusion, renting a yacht in Jacksonville is a way to experience a profound journey - a journey that allows us to engage with nature, marvel at human ingenuity, and discover a deeper understanding of our relationship with the environment. As we sail through its waterways, let us appreciate not only the sheer beauty of the journey but also the countless stories these waters have to tell.

Unfurling Further Understanding: Frequently Asked Questions

As we navigate these expansive waters of knowledge, we realize that each ripple of understanding often gives rise to a wave of questions. A curiosity is a compass that guides our exploration and a current that propels us forward on this voyage of discovery. We've anticipated a selection of the inquiries that frequently arise on the topic of yacht rental in Jacksonville and have endeavored to provide thorough and thoughtful responses in the spirit of fostering deeper understanding and appreciation.

What qualifications do I need to rent a yacht in Jacksonville?

To charter a yacht in Jacksonville, you generally need to have a valid boating license or certification, demonstrating your understanding of maritime rules and safety. However, many yacht rental companies offer vessels with a professional crew, thereby eliminating the need for personal qualifications. Always check with the individual charter company regarding their specific requirements.

How much does it typically cost to rent a yacht in Jacksonville?

The cost of yacht rental in Jacksonville varies based on several factors such as the size and type of the yacht, duration of the rental, and whether you require a crew. Generally, prices can range from several hundred to thousands of dollars per day. We recommend reaching out to different charter companies for a more precise estimation tailored to your specific needs.

What services are usually included in a yacht rental?

Yacht rentals typically include the use of the vessel and its onboard amenities. Some rentals come with a full crew, including a captain and steward, while others might only provide a captain or allow for self-captaining. Additional services could include catering, water toys, and pre-planned itineraries. Always confirm what is included with your specific rental agreement.

Can I bring pets aboard a rented yacht?

Policies regarding pets vary widely among yacht rental companies. While some may allow pets onboard, others might have strict no-pet policies. It's always best to ask the rental company about their specific policies and any potential cleaning fees involved before bringing your furry friend on your maritime adventure.

What should I pack for a yacht trip in Jacksonville?

For a yacht trip in Jacksonville, pack clothing suitable for the weather, with layers to accommodate changes in temperature. Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses are essential to protect from the Florida sun. Don't forget your swimwear if you plan on taking a dip. If you're planning to fish, check with the rental company to see if you need to bring your own gear. Always remember to pack any necessary personal items, such as medications, and of course, a camera to capture the picturesque journey.

Embarking on a yachting adventure in Jacksonville opens up a world of captivating experiences and exploration. As you find your bearings and set sail, these responses to frequently asked questions should provide a reliable chart to guide your course. However, as with any grand voyage, the magic lies in the discoveries you make along the way. The joy of yachting is not only in reaching your destination but in embracing the journey itself. Happy sailing!

Are you new to Boating in Jacksonville, FL?

Is jacksonville good for boating.

Jacksonville, Florida, is excellent for boating due to its access to diverse waterways, such as the St. Johns River, Intracoastal Waterway, which runs through the city, and the Atlantic Ocean. The climate is warm most of the year, which makes it perfect for a relaxing boat ride or fishing. The active boating community and the natural scenic beauty make it a prime destination for boat rides.

How much does it cost to rent a boat in Jacksonville?

Boat rentals in Jacksonville, FL, vary depending on the type and size of the boat. Generally, prices range from around $200 to $600 daily for standard motorboats or pontoons, while luxury yachts or larger vessels can cost $1,000 or more daily.

How much does it cost to charter a boat in Jacksonville?

Chartering a boat in Jacksonville, FL, generally costs between $500 and $1,500 for a half-day trip, depending on the size and type of the boat. There are plenty of options in this area. The price of a full-day charter typically ranges from $1,000 to $3,000.

Do you need a license to rent a boat in Florida?

If you rent with McCoy Waterways, our boat is captained for you. We take care of all licensing and insurance. You show up and enjoy. If you decide you want to boat on your own, you will want to know the requirements as follows:

In Florida, you generally do not need a specific license to rent a boat. However, there are specific requirements and regulations you need to be aware of:

Boating Safety Education:

Anyone born on or after January 1, 1988, must have a Boating Safety Education Identification Card issued by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) or a certificate from a NASBLA-approved boating education course to legally operate a boat with an engine of 10 horsepower or more. We recommend Boatus.org.

Temporary Certificate:

If you don't have the Boating Safety Education Identification Card, you can obtain a temporary certificate that allows you to operate a boat for a limited time. These can be obtained online or through various vendors throughout the state. You can find more information by clicking here .

Rental Companies Requirements:

Most boat rental companies provide a brief safety course or orientation and may require you to pass a short test before allowing you to rent a boat. They also often have age and experience requirements, so it's best to check with the specific rental company.

Florida's minimum legal age to operate a personal watercraft (like jet skis) is 14. However, you must be at least 18 years old to rent one.

Identification:

While operating a boat, you must carry a photo ID and proof of your boating safety education or temporary certificate.

Always check with the specific rental company for any additional requirements or regulations they might have.

Do you need your insurance to rent a boat in Florida?

In Florida, boat rental companies typically have insurance policies to cover their boats and business operations. However, there are a few key points you should consider regarding insurance when renting a boat:

Rental Company Insurance:

Most reputable boat rental companies provide insurance as part of the rental agreement. This usually includes liability coverage and sometimes physical damage coverage for the boat. It's essential to ask the rental company about the specifics of their insurance policy.

Personal Liability:

While the rental company's insurance may cover some aspects, it may not cover all potential liabilities. For example, if you cause an accident that injures someone else or damages their property, you could be held personally responsible if the rental company's insurance does not cover those damages.

Personal Insurance Policies:

Check with your insurance provider to see if your personal insurance policies (homeowner's, renter's, or auto insurance) offer any coverage for boat rentals. Some insurance policies include coverage for rental boats, but you need to confirm the details with your insurer.

Credit Card Coverage:

Some credit cards offer insurance coverage for rental vehicles, including boats, if you use the card to pay for the rental. Again, it is important to verify the specifics with your credit card company.

How can I find a romantic boat ride in Jacksonville, Florida?

Are you looking for a romantic boat ride in Jacksonville, FL ? Several companies provide afternoon charters and sunset cruises. You might ask if they provide “dock and dine” services or perhaps have a partner that offers picnics.

What river runs through Jacksonville, FL?

The St. Johns River runs through Jacksonville, Florida. It is one of the few rivers in the United States that flows north, extending over 300 miles from its source in the southern part of the state to its mouth at the Atlantic Ocean near Jacksonville. A boat ride in Jacksonville, FL, is the best way to experience its uniqueness and the natural beauty of the St Johns River.

Why is the St Johns River dark?

The St. Johns River appears dark primarily due to the high concentration of tannins in the water. Tannins are organic compounds that seep into the river from decaying vegetation and wetlands, giving the water a tea-like, dark color. A common myth is that it is dirty and polluted. The river's slow flow also allows these tannins to accumulate, further contributing to its dark appearance.

Are there dolphins in Jacksonville?

You might be surprised to learn there are dolphins in Jacksonville, Florida. The waters around Jacksonville, including the St. Johns River, the Intracoastal Waterway, and the Atlantic Ocean, are home to various marine life, including bottlenose dolphins. These dolphins can often be spotted in the waterways near downtown and along the coastline.

What kinds of fish can you see while boating in Jacksonville, FL?

Boating in Jacksonville, Florida, offers the opportunity to see a variety of fish species due to its diverse aquatic environments, including freshwater rivers, estuaries, and the Atlantic Ocean. Some common fish you might encounter include:

Freshwater Fish (St. Johns River and its tributaries)

Largemouth Bass

Saltwater and Brackish Water Fish (Intracoastal Waterway, Coastal Areas)

Redfish (Red Drum)

Spotted Seatrout

Offshore Species (Atlantic Ocean)

King Mackerel

Mahi-Mahi (Dolphinfish)

Whether you are fishing or just observing, Jacksonville's waters are rich in marine life, offering boaters a diverse and exciting experience.

Florida Yacht Charters | Fun in the Sunshine State

Our Florida yacht charters offer fantastic Atlantic Coast destinations, including the Florida Keys, South Florida, and the Gulf Coast. A sailing vacation to Florida is a memorable experience, thanks to the boating areas conveniently located around the state. You can find additional details about Florida charters in our sample itineraries .

Boating Capital of the World

Florida is the boating capital of the world. The state has more registered boats than any other state in North America . Plus, at least 100,000 out-of-state boats sail Florida on any day.

The boating areas of Florida are close to home and offer memorable sailing vacations in the tropics. Charter yachts of various sizes and crewed rental boats are available to match your comfort and desires. Luxury Yacht Charters will indeed have what you want, from sailboats to motor yachts, power catamarans, and sailing catamarans. Of course, you’ll want to learn more about Florida’s top yachting areas when planning a Florida yacht charter vacation .

M/Y INTERVENTION

florida yacht charters M/Y Intervention

Florida Yacht Charters | The Atlantic

From Jacksonville down to Miami , the waters off the Eastern coast of Florida are populated year-round with boats of all shapes and sizes. You will see everything from small sailing catamarans to luxury superyachts.

Northern Florida | Jacksonville

On The Atlantic side in Northern Florida, sail  Jacksonville/St. Augustine and experience first-class marinas, ship supply stores, fine hotels, and five-star restaurants. Jacksonville caters to the boating crowd and hosts several waterfront festivals.

Here you will find world-class fishing. The city hosts one of the largest kingfish tournaments in Florida. Moreover, the shallow-water fishing in the salt marshes is as good as it gets.

Southern Florida | Ft. Lauderdale

In southern Florida, the Greater Fort Lauderdale area is the “Venice of America.” It has more than 300 miles of inland waterways. It also is the “Yachting Capital of the World” since more than 40,000 yachts call it home.

The annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is one of the yachting world’s most significant events. The Gulf Stream runs just a few miles offshore, luring blue-water anglers. The nearby coral reefs are a haven for scuba divers.

Fort Lauderdale is a good launching point for a Florida yacht charter if you plan to cross the Bahamas. Miami is also a good starting point, about 25 miles south. Many South Beach boaters run the 50 miles to Bimini and return the same day.

The Florida Keys | Florida Yacht Charters

The Florida Keys stretch from Biscayne National Park to Key West. This beautiful destination has more opportunities for boaters than any other place on Earth. Fish, dive, or cruise the islands seven days a week, 12 months a year.

Each island, or “key,” has its personality. Scuba divers love Key Largo for its reefs and shipwrecks. Deep-sea fishermen from around the globe head to Islamorada, the Sportfishing Capital of the World.

But the crowning jewel of the island chain is Key West, the Southernmost City. It is home to the best sunset in the continental United States. It is just a 70-mile crossing from Key West to Dry Tortugas National Park, home to Fort Jefferson. This port town inspired Jimmy Buffett to sing, so swing by Margaritaville for a cheeseburger in paradise.

Select from ports like Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, South Beach, and Key West for your Florida Keys yacht charter itinerary .

The Gulf Coast

The   cruising and sailing areas of the Gulf Coast extend from Cape Romano (Marco Island) in the south to Venice Inlet in the north. The area includes

  • Sanibel Island
  • Captiva Island
  • Boca Grande
  • Gasparilla Island
  • Useppa Island
  • Cabbage Key
  • Pine Island
  • Lake Okeechobee

These quiet, protected sailing areas offer unspoiled natural beauty and ease of navigation.

Frequently asked questions

How long can i charter a yacht for.

Charters can be set for any duration under or over a week. We do offer day charters as well on a select number of yachts.

Can I select which day of the week the charter will start?

Yes, charter schedules are often very flexible and can choose any day of the week to depart. However, rates do fluctuate depending on the season. High season rates apply to the most popular charter periods, i.e. July/August and Christmas/New Year, and are also normally applicable to all major events. Low season rates apply to all other periods unless otherwise stipulated.

How do I calculate the charter rate?

Charters over seven days are calculated pro-rata against the weekly rate divided by seven and multiplied by the number of charter days. For charters less than a week, the weekly rate is divided by six and multiplied by the number of days.

What is included in the charter rate?

Included in rate for all term charters is use of the yacht for specified time, crew, and water toys.

What is not included in the charter rate?

APA for expenses, Tax (if applicable), Gratuity to crew, and Repositioning fee (if applicable) are not included in the charter rate.

What is APA?

Expenses for any charter is collected at final payment in the form of an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA). This sum is usually equivalent to 30% of the total charter fee, but may be 35% in some cases. Intended to cover the operating expenses of a charter as explained under Charter Terms. The APA will be given to the captain before the start of your charter. ANY remainder balance is given back to the charterer at the conclusion of the charter.

How much should I tip the crew?

Crew gratuities are at the charterers discretion, although it is customary for a charterer who has enjoyed the kind and attentive service of an obliging crew to extend a gratuity. Crew gratuities are normally between 15%-20% of the charter fee, but can be adjusted up or down according to your level of satisfaction.

What is a repositioning fee?

If you want to charter a yacht from a different location than their home port, or you want to get off at another harbor, the costs for transporting the vessel from or to the home port will be calculated by the captain and added to the charter rate.

Can I select the itinerary for my cruise?

Yes, the itinerary is totally customizable and designed for each guest. Our charter specialist will design an itinerary based on your preferences. Boatsetter brokers work with the Captain to make advance reservations for many activities, such as sightseeing tours, vehicle rentals, and restaurant reservations. During your charter, your Captain and crew will take care of any arrangements for you and adjust itinerary as well.

Am I allowed to smoke onboard the yacht?

Yes, smoking is permitted on the aft deck or flybridge. No smoking is permitted in the interior of the yacht.

How many people are allowed on board the yacht?

On day charters, 12 guests is the maximum occupancy of any commercial charter. When chartering a yacht overnight, the number of staterooms needs to correlate to guests staying onboard. Typically, each stateroom holds up to 2 guests.

How do I make sure I have everything I need on board (food, wine, etc.)?

Prior to departure, our team will ask you to complete a detailed preference sheet describing the preferences and special needs of all the members of your party, such as dietary or medial requirements, details of any allergies, and your sporting or entertainment requests. This will enable the crew of your chosen yacht to ensure you have a flawless experience during your stay onboard.

You will be sight fishing from the bow of a flats skiff in the Mosquito Lagoon or Indian River Lagoon. Despite the scary name, mosquitoes are not a problem on the water. With clear skies and clean water, you can see fish within casting distance. In addition, we look for tails, fins, and wakes from single fish, groups or schools. This fishing can be done by people of all skill levels but is best suited for adults and those with prior casting experience. For trips with kids and less experienced anglers, look for my "Daytona Beach/New Smyrna Easy Catching Trip". You may request spinning tackle or fly fishing. Capt. Chris is a certified fly casting instructor with the FFI for those wanting to improve their cast. Top quality tackle is provided with your trip. Anglers bring their own food and drink. Is booking a fishing guide worth the money?

Hiring a guide provides a number of benefits and many choose to book a fishing guide for a combination of experience, local knowledge, convenience, and cost-effectiveness.

Working with experienced fishing guides who know the best local spots and techniques can dramatically increase your odds of a great day. Having someone who is on the water every day and knows the area like the back of their hand is going to give you the best chances of success.

Booking a guide is also more cost effective, especially if you only get out a handful of times per year. When you consider all of the costs you would incur on your own such as the price of a boat, maintenance, insurance, gas, high-quality gear and tackle, repairs, and more, you’ll find that DIY is sometimes not worth the expense.

Even if you’ve got a great setup already in your home waters, booking a guide also provides a great opportunity to experience new techniques, new locations, or even a chance at a new target species to knock off the bucket list.

WEATHER ALERT

A flood warning in effect for Columbia County

‘i can still do it’: local teens taking on new challenge as sea scouts, sea scouts are an extension of scouts for america.

Chris Will , News4JAX Reporter , Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A new ship is coming to Jacksonville.

The only difference is that this “ship” is a group of kids coming together to learn basic water safety skills and gaining experiences they say will help them in life.

RELATED | Boy Scouts of America is rebranding. Here’s why they will be named Scouting America

The Sea Scouts are getting a new chapter based in the Fort Caroline Community Center.

That group is called a “Ship.”

And while the age range is supposed to be 14 to 20 years old, two 13-year-olds are leading the charge.

In just over two years of being a scout, Emma Custis and her friend Vanessa Reep have accomplished so much.

“I learned that even though something can be really hard,” Custis said. “I can still do it.”

The two friends are now setting sail on a new adventure with the Sea Scouts.

“There’s a ship that you go on and you get to experience the role of being on that ship,” Reep said. “Being with other people and working together as a team and managing the boat. Going on the water and learning how to do a bunch of different things that you probably wouldn’t do in [Boy Scouts of America.]”

The group is known as Ship 886 but is just days old.

There are also just three members.

To help recruit, the girls took part in an “Open House” at Fort Caroline Community Center on Saturday.

With the help of the USS Orleck and Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Sea Scouts showed off some of the skills members will learn as a part of the group.

“I just hope to see a lot of happy and willing faces,” Custis said. “So people willing to come in and be ready to be a part of this cool adventure that we’re going through.”

The girls demonstrated proper CPR and rope-tying skills.

Organizers said it’s a time commitment of about two hours a week. Each month, scouts will do a service project and one adventure.

If a scout sees the Sea Scout program to the end, they will be able to fully operate a boat as the captain. That includes running a crew, navigating and charting a course for a week.

And while this charter of Sea Scouts of America will teach a number of survival skills, the girls said it provides them with skills they use in life.

“It’s a really good opportunity so you kind of go at your own pace,” Custis said. “You don’t have to go super fast. You don’t have to go super slow. You just kind of stay at your pace and there’s a lot of stuff that you can learn and that you will learn.”

Anyone interested in participating with the Sea Scouts can visit this website for more information.
