Daytime excursion : 09:30 - 16.00 Sunset excursion: 16:30 - 22:30

Leave the buzz of Ibiza behind for a day and experience the magic of the Mediterranean in the best way possible: a full day cruise on a stunning catamaran to the paradise islands of Formentera and Espalmador .

The stunning beaches of Formentera and its tiny islet, the uninhabited Espalmador, rival any in the world, and this trip takes you there in style on a million-euro catamaran.

catamaran a formentera

You’ll be collected from your resort in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle and taken straight to the marina in Ibiza Town. As you set sail, you’ll be enjoying the fabulous views of Ibiza’s Old Town (Dalt Vila) and the south coast of the island until your first stop on the magical Espalmador .

The white sands and clear waters of Espalmador are famous yet the seas around the islet ensure most of its visitors are luxury yacht owners from Ibiza. During this stop you’re free to explore or simply relax on the beach (the catamaran drops anchor approx. 25m from the beach, for non swimmers and children there is a small zodiac boat on hand).

Once back on the catamaran you’ll be ready to enjoy lunch – a delicious barbecue of fresh fish, chicken, local sausages, and pork chops, accompanied by salad, local bread and alioli (a local garlic mayonnaise). Vegetarian & Vegan options can be provided.

Your drinks are included – beer & wine with lunch, and soft drinks during the day. On the sunset excursion beer, wine & cava are included for the entire excursion.

After lunch, we continue to Formentera’s most famous beach, Illetas. Often compared to the Caribbean for its white sand and crystal-clear waters, here the catamaran drops anchor, and you can swim and snorkel from the boat (on the sunset excursion the second stop is substituted for a leisurely journey back to Ibiza with stunning views as the sun sets, accompanied by a DJ playing chilled out tunes).

From here we head home, and you can enjoy the comforts of the catamaran – relaxing on the nets above the water or enjoying the shade of the sun under the boat’s huge sails – as we cruise back to the marina.

Your transport will be waiting to take you back to your resort.

At a glance…

  • Trip of a lifetime to the paradise islands of Formentera and Espalmador
  • Sail in comfort on a luxury million-euro catamaran
  • Enjoy free time on the magical beaches of Espalmador
  • Delicious BBQ lunch and drinks included
  • Swim and snorkel in the famous waters of Illetas, Formentera
  • Transport between your resort and the marina is included

Don’t Forget!

  • It’s a full day outdoors - keep hydrated and protected from the sun!
  • Your towel and suncream
  • Transport included if required, or a price reduction if it’s not
  • For your safety, catamaran trips are weather-permitting

Our day trip to Espalmador Island was nothing short of magical! From the moment we were picked up at our hotel in Ibiza, the entire experience was flawlessly organized and immensely enjoyable. The journey began with a comfortable ride to the port, where we boarded a luxurious catamaran that would be our home for the day... Duarte Frenandes. Amazing day. The crew was so friendly and attentive. The food was lush. The sailing was bliss. Formentera and Espalmador was something else! Just wow. We are adding this to our list every year! The Malone Family, September 2023
We booked the catamaran as recommended by Angelo, and we are so glad we did! Brilliant day! 5 stars from us ***** Steve Lowe & Family, September 2023
We booked a catamaran trip with the family kids age 13 and 8, I wasn’t sure whether to or not but had received such good responses from queries before I went it put my mind at rest and we booked as soon as we arrived. I am so pleased we did, the transfer to the marina was excellent and the catamaran was fantastic. Staff were very helpful all the way through. My kids absolutely loved the whole experience, especially being able to jump off the boat whilst we anchored for lunch. Lunch was amazing!!! Honestly if we could go back just for that we would!! Thank you to everyone involved, great job!! Claire Vessey, August 2023
Formentera is beautiful. It's like paradise. The crew are outstanding, so helpful. The BBQ lunch is so fresh and tasty. This excursion is 100% value for money. We had a great day. Nathan Cannon, August 2023
Lush day. Faultless. Make sure you book this for your holiday. You wont be disappointed. 10 out of 10! Sharon Webb, August 2023
Amazing. We went on the Sunset trip and it was perfect. So chilled and pretty. The BBQ was tasty and the few beers watching the sunset was spot on. Dean Chorley, June 2023

Speed boat rental in Formentera

The passage of Es Trucadors separates the island of Formentera and that of Espalmador

Beaches of Formentera to visit by charter boat

On the beach of Illetes you can find the best restaurants of Formentera . In fact, our charter customers in Ibiza usually opt for this beach to anchor, take a swim before lunch and disembark for a meal in one of the many restaurants that sit on the white sand of this part of the island.

Calo de Mort formentera

Another of the most popular beaches of Formentera is Cala Saona. In Cala Saona the waters are so turquoise that it seems that we are in a pool. It is south of the marina of Formentera and fortunately offers a good seabed of very extensive sand to anchor the rental boat in Formentera that you have chosen.

The most extensive beach in Formentera is Migjorn beach. This beach is far from the hustle and bustle of the most popular beaches of Formentera. Because of its location, it is not a good area for anchoring boats and this makes it much less crowded. You can anchor in Cala Saona and then take a 5-10 minute taxi to Migjorn beach.

And, of course, I recommend that you go to see one of the most famous lighthouses in Spain, the Faro de la Mola, and on the way you will see spectacular views of the island with the sea on both sides.

Sailboat for rent Formentera

It is 19 kilometers long so I recommend that you lose yourself and enjoy the magic of Formentera.

The sunset in Formentera is one of the favorite moments of CharterAlia customers

The island of Formentera

Formentera is the smallest of the sister islands and is also the most expensive island in Spain. Hundreds of tourists choose to rent a boat in Formentera to enjoy its white sandy coves and turquoise waters. The Caribbean beaches have nothing to envy.

Many of the boats that are rented in Ibiza are only to go to Formentera. Many clients are attracted by the gastronomic options offered by restaurants in Formentera . These restaurants, formerly chiringuitos, have been increasing their menu and prices gradually over the years.

The beach of Espalmador, north of Formentera, is considered one of the best in Spain

Formentera offers two very different faces. On the one hand, we have 6 months of high season with good weather and good sea. An earthly paradise. On the other hand, we have the winter low season in which the island is almost deserted with just over 3,000 permanent inhabitants.

It is rare, but sometimes in winter, with the arrival of storms in the west, the port of Formentera is closed to maritime traffic and the island is completely cut off for a few hours (sometimes days) until the sea transit is restored.

Still, winter sometimes does give us a splendid day of sun and calm sea. Some take that opportunity to sail in one of our models of boat rental in Formentera to enjoy the beaches of Formentera almost as if they were all ours.

Rent a boat in Formentera

The port of La Savina is a small port whose demand has grown exponentially in recent years. Most of the boats are from the residents of the small archipelago. You can rent a boat from the south of Ibiza island or from San Antonio. At CharterAlia we offer you rental boats available to visit Formentera from Ibiza or from the port of La Savina.

Port of La Savina Formentera

I do not want to rent a boat in Formentera

Ok, it has happened to me. Many times I have been on a boat in Formentera and wanted to enjoy this smaller sister island in another way.

Formentera from the sky

What is clear is that you have to arrive by boat. The most boring option is the Balearia or Transmapi ferry. The good thing is that these Ferry lines have many schedules and every hour a boat leaves towards Formentera. So do not get stressed if you don´t arrive at the scheduled time. The only thing you do need to be careful with is the return time since at night there are no boats.

The commercial route by boat from Ibiza to Formentera is one of the most profitable in the world during the high season. The number of travelers is very high and the journey is quite short. It is usually done in about 35-40 minutes.

But without a doubt, the best way to visit Formentera, even if you are only interested in exploring it by land, is arriving in one of our catamarans, sailboats, motorboats or yachts for rent in Formentera.

Motorboat rental Formentera

You can embark your own vehicle on the ferry from Ibiza or from the peninsula, or rent one when you arrive to the island at one of the dozens of rent-a-car companies that line the main street next to the port of Formentera. Many people choose the option of renting a motorcycle since it is cheaper. However, due to the large influx of tourists during the months of July and August, it is an increasingly uncomfortable option. As you can see, the best option is to continue along the coast of Formentera in one of our sailboats, catamarans or motorboats that we offer as rental boats in Formentera .

One of the least known ends of Cala Saona west of Formentera

Real case of one of our clients of our boat rental in Formentera

My first year in Formentera … I went by ferry and without a vehicle during the high season. We arrived at the port and the car rental was through the clouds due to the excess demand of the summer dates. We had gone without cards, only with cash, so it was impossible for us to rent a vehicle. Motorcycles were not available, all had already been rented for the day, and I had to rent a bicycle. But the worst thing was that, since we did not carry any cards, we had to leave as proof our identification documents, our watches and 20 euros. With the beaming of the sun and all the luggage we had on us for the day, you have no idea the bad mood you get and think “why did I not opt to rent a boat to go to Formentera ? I imagined myself in the charter boat, with my beer in my hand, sitting at the stern, and one foot hanging in the water…

Formentera beach

The Experience of not renting boats in Formentera

We arrived at Illetes beach (which is the closest beach to the port and one of the most popular on the island) and there we stayed for the day, because we had already gone through so much. The bike stroll was cool the first 5 minutes. When the tourists with the motorcycles get ahead of you and the cars seem to take you off the road… it loses its acharm. The truth is that we did not catch the bus (which takes you to the beaches and covers the island from one side to the other). And to top it off, we had another 20 euros to eat and I assure you that I never tried a frozen potato tortilla sandwich so bad. It is clear that Formentera is not cheap.

Ses Illetes beach Formentera

After this experience, I must say that nothing similar happened to me again, but you already know that when you go to a new place everything seems to happen to you. The second time I hired one of the CharterAlia charter boats and everything changed.”

What else to see in Formentera?

The island of Formentera offers wonderful spots. It is an island with a unique charm. It is so beautiful that it is difficult to describe it with words. And then there is also Espalmador.

One of Formentera beaches

Espalmador belongs to the natural reserve of Ibiza. It is an islet that has one of the best beaches in Spain. The best way to get to Espalmador is by a rental boat in Formentera . In high season you will not be able to anchor without prior reservation of an ecological buoy. These anchorage buoys were installed in the southern area of Espalmador in 2013 to protect the oceanic posidonea.

Formentera is known worldwide for its turquoise waters

I am interested in renting your catamaran? We are travelling between 4th – 8th August on holiday so it is flexible between these dates for a day trip. If yes, can you please send me a quote/offer? We are 12 people and we need a skipper. We also want to go to S’Espalmador for the day and anchor there. Is that possible, and do you deal with mooring bookings and any license requirements? Thank you

Fantastic day sailingThe whole experience was smooth and professional, from the first contact with Fede who answered all my questions quickly and clearly, to contact the day before to arrange the meeting place etc, to the amazing day itself. The yacht is beautiful and very comfortable. We swam in the sea, using masks, snorkels and fins available on the boat, used the stand up paddleboard, and relaxed on the bow as we sailed.

Emma

Amazing day out on a beautiful catamaran Thank you so much Fede for a fantastic day on your beautiful Catamaran! Formentera Catamaran Tour

Ses illetes beach.

Formentera Catamaran Trip is an unforgettable experience for all lovers of the sea and sailing. Departing from Marina Botafoch . From the deck you can admire the old city and the castle in the rays of the rising sun. You’ll depart for a sun-drenched on deck, basking in the sun’s rays and enjoying free drinks and tapas from the open bar. The boat anchors in front of the most beautiful beach of Formentera – Illetas Beach .  During the stop you can enjoy swimming and snorkeling in crystalline waters (all equipment is provided on board).  While you will enjoy crystal clear water of the Mediterranean, the crew will prepare a delicious barbecue with salads and fruits. It is a real privilege to sail watching the blue water slide and enjoying the sounds of the waves. Enjoy a relaxing day, sailing silently towards a beautiful cove with turquoise waters on the coast of Ibiza and Formentera.

When you get to Illetes beach, you will understand why this beach have the first place among the most beautiful beaches in Europe. And also reached the sixth place among the most beautiful beaches in the world. You will feel like you have left the Mediterranean for a moment and moved to a Caribbean paradise. Illetes beach is located on a long, narrow peninsula. It is called the paradise of Formentera thanks to the combination of fine, white sand , beautiful blue sky and the most crystalline clean water .

Catamaran boat

A catamaran is balanced on two hulls, with the sails in the middle. Catamarans have a phenomenal stability : they do not heel under way and do not roll at anchor. This usually makes seasickness a non-event. It makes it somewhat safer for kids running around. It is a fact that more people get seasick on monohulls than on catamarans.

Our catamaran has a length of 22 meters and a maximum capacity of 100 people. Wide nets in the bow will become your favourite place in the sun. Lying down on them while feeling the blue waters flow beneath your body and enjoying the murmur of the sea. There are toilets on the catamaran.

No hubo heridos.

Carai, anau-vos a recer! [¡Carajo, poneos a abrigo!]

–Yo no me chivo.
