New Sunreef Yachts Shipyard Opening In Ras Al-Khaimah, UAE

It’s recently  been announced that Sunreef Yachts plans to expand into the Middle East with a new shipyard located in Ras Al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. The production of Sunreef Yachts Ras Al-Khaimah facility will begin in September 2023.

The Polish shipyard is opening an overseas branch for the first time due to a “growing demand” for its catamarans from the Middle East, Asia, and Australia.

At present, the catamaran builders currently operates two construction sites in Poland, and the Ras Al-Khaimah site will be considered “state-of-the-art”. A total of 65,000 square metres of land have been acquired by Sunreef Yachts. In the next few weeks the yacht builders will begin building its first 13,000 square metre construction shed.

Initial employment at the new location will be around 50. All of whom will help to build the brand’s luxury, custom-made catamarans. The company say they’re expecting its site in Ras Al-Khaimah to have up to 800 employees within three years of opening.

SUNREEF YACHTS INAUGURATES NEW SHIPYARD IN RAS AL KHAIMAH, UAE

Sunreef Yachts, a leading luxury catamaran builder, celebrated the official inauguration of its      new state-of-the-art shipyard in Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, on March 4th, following the conclusion of the Dubai International Boat Show.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi,UAESupreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, who officially inaugurated the new facility and addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of the company’s expansion in the region.

Former Polish President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Lech Walesa, who traveled fromPoland to witness the event, also delivered a speech, alongside the  Ambassador of Poland, H.E. Dr. Jakub Slawek, and Sunreef Yachts CEO, Francis Lapp. Mr. Lapp shared the company’s vision for the future and plans for the new shipyard.

The event attracted a distinguished audience, including VIPs, local authorities, and existing customers. Guests were given an exclusive tour of the new production halls, witnessing the first Ultima 55 model – a modern hybrid catamaran – taking shape. They also had the opportunity to explore two electric yachts: the Athena Too, an electric power yacht, and the Marie Joseph, a sail electric Sunreef 80 Eco yacht. Additionally, the guests were able to observe the cutting-edge robotics employed in the construction process.

The new facility, situated in Ras Al Khaimah, marks a significant milestone for Sunreef Yachts, signifying their commitment to expanding their global presence. The shipyard will first focus on the production of the Ultima catamaran range, with numerous orders already secured, ensuring continued growth and development for the company and its workforce.

Positioned on 16 acres, the high-tech facility will feature the latest technologies in luxury yacht building, according to Sunreef. It will also be designed to meet the highest standards of sustainability. (The Polish yard has positioned itself as a leader in green tech, incorporating things like electric powertrains and “solar skins” into its multihulls.)

Sunreef says the Ras Al Khaimah yard will take a 360-degree approach to yacht manufacturing, with a modern paint shop, as well as carpentry, upholstery, and steel workshops. It will also be equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and robotics. The yard will also work with the specialists at the local Dubai office, creating a yachting think tank that can anticipate trends and devise concepts. Sunreef is working with port RAK Maritime City on the development and says the first manufacturing and CNC halls already nearing completion.

The UAE made the most strategic sense for Sunreef, with Ras Al Khaimah offering exceptional incentives, industry support, access to key markets, and solid transportation infrastructure. It will not only strengthen the company’s presence in the Middle East but also foster a stronger connection with Asia and Australia. As such, Sunreef will be able to introduce its range of eco-friendly multihulls to a wider global audience.

The first units to be produced in Ras Al Khaimah will be the hybrid Ultima cats, as well as the power and sail yachts ranging from 50 to 70 feet.

Expanding Sunreef Yachts Opens New UAE Facility

Sunreef Yachts is expanding.  With two shipyards already operating in Gdansk, Sunreef Yachts is currently developing a new manufacturing facility in Ras Al Khaimah.

The company’s facility in Poland, has been expanding over the years and now boasts over 125 000m² of industrial surface.

A time of growth

Developed on a 65 000m² land reserve, the new facility will be expanding to incorporate the latest technologies in luxury yacht building.   It will meet the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency.  Sunreef Yachts and RAK Maritime City are currently working together expanding the facility.  When complete it will be able to offer a 360-degree approach to yacht manufacturing. 

The expanding site will be equipped with  with a modern paint shop, carpentry, upholstery and stainless steel workshops.  All will be equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and latest robotics. The first manufacturing and CNC halls are currently nearing completion.

Why Ras Al Khaimah? 

An important crossroad between West and East, Ras Al Khaimah and the UAE was the best strategic choice for expanding the company.  Ras Al Khaimah offers exceptional incentive and industry support.  And expanding there offers easy access to key markets and transportation infrastructure.

The new facility is an important part of Sunreef Yachts’ global expanding strategy. It will not only strengthen the company’s presence in the Middle East but also allow a stronger connection with the Asian and Australian markets. With two manufacturing sites in Poland and an emerging facility in Ras Al Khaimah, Sunreef Yachts gains an even more global reach for its range of sustainable catamarans. The first units to be produced in Ras Al Khaimah will be the hybrid ULTIMA catamarans as well as power and sail yachts ranging from 50 to 70 feet.

Sunreef Yachts opens new shipyard in the United Arab Emirates

Construction has begun on Sunreef Yachts’ new shipyard in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. The Polish shipbuilder has partnered with marine free zone and harbour, Ras Al Khaimah Maritime City on the project.

The shipyard said the new facility is part of its global expansion strategy to strengthen the company’s presence in the Middle East, Asian and Australian markets.

“ We couldn’t have hoped for a better location to pursue our journey in shaping a greener future for yachting,” said Francis Lapp, founder and president, Sunreef Yachts. “ I would like to thank the Ras Al Khaimah Government for their invaluable support in making this dream possible and I look forward to building a better future for yachting here.”

Located to the northeast of Dubai, the 65,000msq (16 acres) Ras Al Khaimah facility (pictured) will include painting, carpentry, upholstery and steel workshops. The first manufacturing sheds are already nearing completion.

Sunreef Yachts added that Ras Al Khaimah Maritime City is the ideal partner for the project due to its Free Zone incentives. These include full tax exemption, no customs duties for import-export exchange, access to the local skilled labour market and support from local authorities.

Sheikh Saqr bin Saud Al Qasimi said the Emirate is growing its capacity across a multitude of sectors to develop a strong and stable economic system. “ And with that in mind, we look forward to highlighting Ras Al Khaimah’s offering, in a bid to attract more international companies to locate here, thrive and expand into global markets,” he said.

Sunreef Yachts has also opened a new office in Dubai located in Palm Jumeirah.

Sunreef begins building in UAE

The Polish catamaran builder has begun operations in its 65,000sqm facility in Ras Al Khaimah, which complements its two Gdansk sites.

Sunreef Yachts builder has shared images of its new waterfront production facility in Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost emirate of the UAE. The facility is still being developed and is based on a 65,000sqm (6.5 hectare) land site.

Now in an early stage of operation, the facility currently employs 120 people and is initially focused on the production of Sunreef’s new Ultima range of hybrid catamarans (click for article) .

The RAK facility features state-of-the-art machinery including the latest robotics and will be fully operational in September, according to Sunreef. The new shipyard works closely with the company’s new Dubai office (click for article) , which was officially inaugurated during this year’s Dubai International Boat Show in March.

The Polish catamaran builder already has two production facilities in Gdansk on Poland’s north coast, where its original facility in the historic Gdansk Shipyard is complemented by a new, larger facility in Tarcice further east along the Martwa Wisla river.

Together, the two Gdansk shipyards employ 2,400 people and cover 125,000sqm of land. The sites offer a fully equipped infrastructure for in-house yacht manufacturing including offices, an R&D lab, production halls, CNC hall, mast workshop, launching pool, ultramodern paint shop, and workshops for upholstery and carpentry.

Sunreef Yachts officially unveils new construction site in the UAE

Following the opening of its first sales office in Dubai, Sunreef Yachts has officially unveiled its manufacturing facility in Ras Al Khaimah, in the UAE as part of its expansion in the Middle East. Approximately 35 models have been sold for construction at the shipyard, including 15 units from its 88 Ultima series .

The Polish multihull yard has entered into an agreement with RAK Maritime City to develop a "world-class" facility on a 65,000-square-metre reserve of land. Currently representing a €20 million investment, Sunreef Yachts' founder Francis Lapp claims the facility is "growing fast" and has the potential to operate at the same level of production as their Gdańsk shipyard.

First halls at Sunreef’s Middle East shipyard operational

Sunreef Yachts is gearing up for the grand opening of its new shipyard in the UAE, with the first manufacturing halls at Ras Al Khaimah now operational.

The firm, which has a manufacturing hub in Poland, says the first manufacturing halls in the city of Ras Al Khaimah are equipped with the latest robotics.

The firm says major investments are planned for its Middle East operations, including the construction of two production halls, which will facilitate the construction of yachts over 80ft. The facility should see a fifty per cent increase in its human resources by mid-2024.

Sunreef says its new Ras Al Khaimah shipyard, which has been planned in response to rising demand from the Middle East , Asia and Australia, will meet the highest requirements in terms of technology and sustainability.

The first units to be produced by Sunreef Yachts in the Emirates will be the Ultima catamarans range. This new range, recently introduced by the company, will comprise models such as the Ultima 44, 55, 66, 77 and 88.

The company is marketing the Ultima vessels as versatile and dynamic yachts that use the latest green tech to provide a clean cruising experience, while combining monohull dynamics with multihull living space.

The city of Gdansk

The first two Sunreef Yachts shipyards are located in the city of Gdansk – a dynamic seafaring city with a strong economy and long naval building traditions. The company opened its doors in 2002, in the heart of the old Gdansk Shipyard – a historic place that witnessed the birth of Solidarity and its victory over the communist regime.

Sunreef Yachts expanded its production capacity and decided to adapt to a growing demand with the second location in Gdańsk. The ultramodern production site is equipped with cutting-edge machinery including Europe’s largest CNC machine. All the composite, carpentry, upholstery, and paint work are carried-out within one infrastructure for maximum quality and efficiency.

Infrastructure

Sunreef Yachts has easy access to the most optimal infrastructures: a 300-ton floating crane, which can lift yachts up to 210 ft, in-house workshops and above all – the most experienced craftsmen. The yacht manufacturing facility also provides a comprehensive mechanical, electrical and electronic service. There is also a dry and warm storage space for storing materials while the yacht is under construction, which is very convenient for any captain or project manager.

A New shipyard

In 2022, Sunreef Yachts acquired a 65,000m 2 land reserved for opening its first overseas shipyard in Ras Al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. Additionally, in response to the rising demands from the markets of Middle East, Asia, and Australia, the company also inaugurated a new office in the iconic Palm Jumeriah, Dubai.

On February 28, 2023, Sunreef Yachts officially inaugurated the company’s new Dubai office. It is located on the Palm Jumeirah West Marina, and it gathers an international team of professionals including sales representatives, designers, engineers, architects, and marketing department. The office will be a ‘yachting think tank’ with a mission to create new trends and come up with creative solutions to further develop the concept of responsible and sustainable yachting.

With two manufacturing sites in Poland and an emerging facility in Ras Al Khaimah, Sunreef Yachts is gaining a global reach for its range of sustainable catamarans.
