Perfect your skippering skills and become a qualified rya/mca yachtmaster offshore.
Preparation: This preparation course is designed for those who wish to take the RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Offshore examination. You will spend five days onboard the yacht with one of our fully qualified professional RYA Yachtmaster instructors prior to taking the RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Offshore examination. The course gives potential Yachtmasters the opportunity to thoroughly revise both practical and theoretical subjects.
The instructor will tailor the course to your needs but our experience usually leads us to emphasize the following subjects: Passage Planning, Skippering Techniques, Man-overboard Recovery, Meteorology, Close Quarters Handling and Pilotage in Restricted Visibility. Sailing will be in local waters as it is normally found that at this level boat handling in close quarters is required rather than long crossings.
Exam: A qualified RYA Yachtmaster Examiner independent of our Training Centre will give you the chance to demonstrate that you are a competent skipper of an offshore cruising yacht. You should be prepared to answer questions on any part of the syllabus of any RYA Sail Cruising course (except Yachtmaster Ocean) and you are expected to show competence based on broad experience. Prove that you can take full responsibility for the management of the yacht, the crew and the passages. Demonstrate that you as a skipper are familiar with the handling and other characteristics of any vessel you take to sea.
Students to Instructor Ratio 5:1 maximum on all practical courses
Pre – learning, exams and courses are delivered in English

If you need a Yachtmaster™ Offshore Certificate of Competence in order to work on board a commercial craft, subject to the MCA's codes of practice, you will need to get it commercially endorsed. You can then work as a Master of commercial vessels of up to 200gt in category 1 to 6 waters - that is up to 150 miles from a safe harbour.
For a commercial endorsement, in addition to your practical certificate of competence you will need:
For Ocean passages the following definition will apply. “Throughout the passage the candidate must have acted in a responsible capacity either in sole charge of a watch or as a skipper”. The examiner will determine whether the candidate is competent at astro navigation. Candidates must have successfully navigated a yacht at sea by astro navigation. As a minimum this should include the planning, reduction, and plotting of a sun-run-meridian altitude or sun-run-sun sight and a compass check carried out using the bearing of the sun, moon, a star or planet. Yachtmaster Ocean Shorebased Course
More about 'qualifying passages' After every practical course you need to consolidate your acquired skills. Build miles and broaden your experience in a variety of areas and in different circumstances.
For Yachtmaster Offshore you need at least 5 qualifying passages as a bare minimum: 1) Over 60 nm non-stop by the shortest navigable route with no change of skipper. Passages such as recognised races which may not comply exactly with these requirements may be submitted to the RYA for approval. 2) Trainee skippers undertaking 60 mile passages are strongly advised to obtain a Coastal Skipper qualification first! 3) Supporting testimonials or a Seaman’s Discharge book
Syllabus – Yachtmaster Coastal Exam Syllabi – Candidates may be given the opportunity to demonstrate knowledge or competence in the areas listed below
In each section the examiner will expect to see the candidate take full responsibility for the management of the yacht and crew. The candidate will be expected to demonstrate an understanding, but may not have had the opportunity to practise all aspects of the syllabus under a range of different weather conditions.
All candidates must be familiar with:
International Regulations for preventing Collisions at Sea
Questions will be confirmed to the International Regulations and although candidates must be aware of the existence of Local Regulations they will not be expected to memorise specific local regulations:
Yachtmaster Coastal candidates will be expected to know what safety equipment should be carried on board a yacht, based either on the recommendations in RYA booklet C8, the Special Regulations of the ORC or the Codes of Practice for the Safety of Small Commercial Vessels. In particular, candidates must know the responsibilities of a skipper in relation to:
Boat Handling
Candidates for Yachtmaster Coastal examinations will l be expected to answer questions or demonstrate ability in simple situations only:
General Seamanship & Maintenance
Responsibilities of Skipper
Meteorology

If you want to stay in the Netherlands for longer than 90 days, you may need a residence permit. In many cases you will also have to apply for a long-stay visa before you travel to the Netherlands. This visa is also called an authorisation for temporary stay (MVV).
In the Russian Federation the application location is linked to your place of residence. You can only apply in St. Petersburg if you live in the regions: St. Petersburg, Leningrad region, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Vologda or the Kaliningrad region.
If you live in another region, you can apply at the Netherlands embassy in Moscow.
You should check whether you need an MVV and/or a residence permit . This depends on things like your nationality and the purpose of your stay.
You can apply for a residence permit and an MVV in 2 ways:
If you have a host in the Netherlands, in most cases your host will have to submit the application to the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND).
First check whether you need to take the civic integration examination .
Applying through a host in the netherlands.
Depending on the purpose of your stay, your host may have to submit the application in the Netherlands. This applies if the purpose of your stay is:
In these cases your host will be an educational institution, your employer, a family member or your spouse or partner.
Your host can submit the application directly to the IND. How they need to do this depends on why you need a residence permit and/or an MVV, for example for work or study. The IND website has a list of the documents your host will need to provide. It also explains how your host can apply for your residence permit . If you have any questions about this, you can contact the IND .
The IND will send your host a letter confirming that the application has been approved. The letter also explains how you can apply for an MVV and what documents you need.
You must apply for your MVV at the embassy or consulate-general within 3 months of receiving this letter. You have 6 months to apply if you meet both of the following conditions:
Take the following documents to your appointment:
Your MVV will be ready for you to collect from the embassy or consulate-general within 10 working days.
Verify that the information on your visa is correct. This includes your name and the visa’s validity period.
Read more about the information on your visa
If any of the information is incorrect, contact the embassy or consulate-general where you applied for your MVV.
You must travel to the Netherlands with the MVV in your passport. The IND will let your host know when your residence permit is ready. You can then make an appointment at the IND office to collect your permit.
For the following purposes of stay you should submit your application for an MVV and residence permit yourself:
The IND will process your application within 90 days. If the IND’s decision is positive, you must hand over your passport at the embassy or consulate-general where you submitted the application. Your MVV will be placed in your passport within 10 working days.
You must travel to the Netherlands with the MVV in your passport. The IND will let you know when your residence permit is ready. You can then make an appointment at the IND office to collect your permit.
Important notice: appointment slots not interchangeable.
Please note that appointment slots are not interchangeable.
Did you for example make an appointment for a passport, while in fact you want to apply for a visa? Then you won’t be able to submit your visa application on that day. In that case, you will have to schedule a new appointment via our online appointment system and you will have to come back another time.
To apply for your long-stay visa (MVV), make an appointment at the Netherlands embassy in Moscow.
Check the status of your application.
In case of emergency or any other urgent matter, you may contact the embassy by email ( [email protected] ) in order to schedule an appointment for an MVV-visa request if the online system does not allow you to do so.
In case there are no (timely) appointment slots available for MVV - Study, please send an e-mail to [email protected] mentioning your contact details and the start of your study programme. The embassy will inform you about the possibilities.
In general the processing time of MVV applications is 15 calendar days. However, if you have received approval for your MVV application from the IND and if you submit all the required documents at the moment of your application, we strive to process your application within a shorter period. At the moment of your application we will assess your file and inform you when you can collect your passport with MVV.
Monday until Friday: 14:00 - 15:00 hours. You do not need to make an appointment.
Before you come, check the days on which the embassy is closed .
