Watch: 58m Codecasa C127 launched and named Kathryn

The 57.8-metre Codecasa motor yacht known as C127 has been launched at Codecasa 's production facility in Viareggio, Italy. Named Kathryn, the vessel started construction on speculation in 2020 and was sold in March of this year. 

Built in steel and aluminium, her exteriors are courtesy of Codecasa Shipyards in collaboration with Milan-based M2 Atelier .

One major point of interest is Kathryn's fast-displacement steel hull, enabling her to reach a maximum speed of 20 knots.

Accommodation includes a spacious owner's suite, VIP cabin, and four guest cabins. Crew accommodation is comprised of six double cabins and a captain's cabin.

Onboard highlights include a beach club with a folding shell door that transforms into a swim platform, a gym and a four-metre swimming pool on the sundeck. There is also a lift serving Kathryn's four decks.

"Proud of this new yacht in the fleet, the Codecasa family and the whole team would like to congratulate the Owners and wish them many pleasant cruising moments on Kathryn with their family and Guests," said a spokesperson for Codecasa Shipyard.

Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, Kathryn has a range of 6,000 nautical miles at 12 knots.

According to BOAT Pro , another on-spec motor yacht is scheduled to be delivered in June 2024, known only as C124.

Codecasa launches Kathryn

The 58m motor yacht, previously known as project c127, has hit the water at codecasa's viareggio shipyard….

The 58m Kathryn is the first major launch from Codecasa in 2023. The motor yacht's naval architecture comes from Codecasa , while the design is a collaborative effort with m2atelier , a Milan-based architecture studio. 

Kathryn  features an optimised displacement hull, allowing it to reach speeds over 20 knots at light displacement. The yacht's propulsion comes from two Caterpillar engines, providing a range of 6,000 nautical miles at a speed of 12 knots.

The motor yacht is fitted with one owner’s suite, one VIP cabin, and four guest cabins. For the crew, there is the captain’s cabin and six double crew cabins. The yacht also houses a stern beach area with a shell door that doubles as a swimming platform, a gym, and a 4 x 2-meter pool on the sun deck.

Codecasa luxury yacht KATHRYN, also known as HULL C127, was launched in 2023 and was based on the Codecasa 58 model. The yacht measures 58m/190ft with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Her Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) helps her achieve a top speed of 20 knots at light displacement, making her one of the fastest yachts in her size category. The accommodation sleeps up to 12 guests in six en-suite cabins, with a crew of 13 on hand to take care of every little detail.

From the lower deck swim platform guests can ascend the stairs to reach the main deck aft, where a sofa lines the stern and additional loose furnishings create a casual setting for coffee mornings and socialising outdoors in the shade.

A starboard stairway leads to the upper deck aft, where sun loungers are placed along the stern and a grand alfresco dining table to seat all 12 guests resides in the shade of the sundeck overhang. Side walkways connect to the foredeck, which has two curving sofas and drinks tables for taking in the sunset views in comfort.

The sundeck can be accessed via a stairway to port from the upper deck aft, or by the interior stairway and lift/elevator. The sundeck aft is fitted with sunbeds, forward of which is a casual lounge of sofas, armchairs and drinks tables placed in the sunshine. This sitting area is ideally placed near the wet bar, where there are stools for three guests. Heading past the gym, the raised forward section boasts a large swimming pool of 3.5x3m (11x9.8ft), either side of which are more plush sunpads.

On the lower deck, the crew accommodation and mess is placed forward, followed by the guest accommodation amidships, the engine room behind and the beach club/tender garage in the stern.

The main deck forward hosts the Master suite with the rest of the guest accommodation behind. Amidships is the galley and main foyer, followed by the formal dining area and main salon, which are combined into one large open-plan space. The formal dining area seats up to 12 guests in an elegant environment filled with light, and the widescreen TV acts as a partition between the lounge. Sofas and armchairs create an inclusive environment around a pair of coffee tables to create the perfect atmosphere for close conversation or a film.

The upper deck wheelhouse has additional seating and a table where guests can relax with reading material while benefiting from plenty of natural light and excellent forward views. The Captain's cabin and staff cabin are behind, then the foyer and pantry and finally the sky lounge, which is designed for entertaining. Two seating areas are placed on both sides of the room, a widescreen TV is mounted on the forward wall and the aft starboard corner has a large wet bar. A drinks/games table with four chairs is adjacent, close to the glass sliding doors out onto the upper deck aft.

KATHRYN Specifications

Lastly, the sundeck has a spacious gym where guests can exercise with magnificent views of the surroundings and in close proximity to the swimming pool and sunpads. A day head and lift (elevator) are also accessible on this floor for convenience.

A pair of Caterpillar 3516E 2525 kW engines give a top speed of 21 knots at light displacement, and when cruising at 12 knots HULL C127 has a globe-trotting cruising range of 6,000 nautical miles.

Yacht Accommodation

The accommodation sleeps a total of 12 guests over 6 en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite and 5 further guest cabins. ~The Master suite is placed on the main deck forward and comes furnished with a king-sized bed, with a widescreen TV opposite, a desk/vanity to port and a sofa to starboard. Behind the bed is a sizeable dressing room and an office opposite. Forward is the en-suite bathroom, divided into his-and-hers sections with a toilet, bidet, sink and shower on both sides and a shared central tub. ~The rest of the guest accommodation is behind the Master suite, or amidships on the lower deck. All guest cabins comes with TV entertainment, plenty of wardrobe space a desk or a sofa and an en-suite bathroom providing a sink, toilet, bidet and a shower. ~The crew of 13 will ensure that all guests on board are well taken care of throughout the journey.

Hull C127 will feature a fast displacement hull (typical of navy ships), optimized with the best techniques currently available to reach and exceed the threshold of 20 knots, a remarkable speed for a Yacht of this size with a steel hull, and she will then be automatically included among the fastest Yachts in her category.

Mr Imeri states: “In the development of the preliminary previsions of the hull resistance we have been taking into account the favourable effects reachable with the use of stern supports, “Transom Wedge” type. We then focused our attention on the bow shapes and we opted for a vertical bow lengthening the water lines of the hull. Afterwards, we considered the possibility of making a forward bulb with only a lateral development, i.e. widewise. To confirm the favourable effects of the above, a series of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations have been performed, in the most thorough version available today, i.e. with a RANSE approach (Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes Equations). After the encouraging results obtained, our Shipyard commissioned the Potsdam model basin SVA (in Berlin) to carry out a comprehensive program of tests on a 1:9.5 scale model (the model length was about 6 metres). The results of the various resistance and self-propulsion tests provided even more positive resistance data in the whole speed range, especially with respect to values around the 20 knot target”.

The new megayacht, with the steel hull, equipped with 2 main engines Caterpillar 3516E 2525 kW (3386 hp@1800 rpm), will reach a 21 knots speed, with a range of over 6,000 miles at 12 knots. Featured by 1 Owner’s Suite, 5 Guests’ Cabins, in addition to the Captain’s Cabin and 6 double Crew cabins, and a comfortable lift serving all decks, the Yacht also provides a beach area astern, with the folding shell door that becomes a swimming platform, and a Gym and a pool of 4 x 2 meters on the Sun Deck.

The design of this Yacht is the result of the close co-operation between the Codecasa Shipyard technical team with the design studio M2 Atelier of Milan.

Obviously, the maximum comfort will be ensured on board, thanks to the very high quality and technological standards that have always been the keynotes of the Codecasa Brand products. These, combined with the speed, will make this Yacht a new benchmark in the Italian and worldwide nautical industry.

The delivery of this new Yacht is scheduled for Summer 2024.

The technical launch of hull C.127, a 58-meter Codecasa has happened. The yacht will now be fit out in time for her launch and delivery in 2023. The technical launch took place in Pisa and the yacht will have to be towed to Viareggio for finishing at Codecasa's relevant facilities there. The design is a collaboration between M2 Atelier and the in-house team at the yard. Guests will eventually have lodging in 6 suites onboard while the crew of up to 13 can be slept. In our last articles on this vessel, we noted the yacht was started on a speculative basis and it is still understood that it is available.

News is that C127 has recently been sold. This owner comes onboard just before the vessel is due to be finished this Summer. They will hardly have any time to wait for delivery.
