LUNASEA is 73.0 meters in length and has a volume of 1,577 GT, a beam of 11.9 meters, and a draft of 3.45 meters.

She has a superstructure made of aluminum and a hull made of steel. Propelled by two MTU engines, she can reach a maximum speed of 16.5 knots while still maintaining a cruising speed of 14.0 knots. 

When traveling at a speed of 14.0 knots, the boat has a range of 12.0 nautical miles (or 5500 n/m)

The boat has a total fuel capacity of 169,670 liters and a water capacity of 36,880 liters on board.

LunaSea is a custom motor yacht launched in 2000 by Cantieri di Pisa.

Born in 1945 from a shipbuilding passion shared by Gino Bini and Antonio Sostegni, Cantieri di Pisa began its career producing military and civilian boats in the small Tuscan town of Limite sull’Arno. Today the company specialises in producing semi-custom composite motor yachts between 30 and 47 metres at the same shipyard in Porta a Mare that it relocated to in 1957.

LunaSea measures 33.50 metres in length, with a max draft of 2.00 metres and a beam of 7.6 metres. She has a gross tonnage of 204 tonnes.

LunaSea has a GRP hull with a GRP superstructure.

Her interior design is by Claudette Bonville & Associates.

Claudette Bonville Associates (CBA) has become renowned for high quality interior designs, having worked with some of the most impressive yachts on the water.

Expedition motor yacht LUNA

The 115m megayacht LUNA was delivered to her new owner on the 10 th of April just south of Kristiansand’s coast in Norway. The explorer motor yacht LUNA is the world’s largest expedition yacht which was launched last October by Lloyd Werft and Stahlbau Nord Shipyards in Germany. The 115m Expedition Motor yacht LUNA recently underwent outfitting, painting and sea trials before being delivered to her famous owner.

The 115m (377ft) long range expedition yacht LUNA’s hull was recently painted a prominent navy blue with waterline stripes instead of her previous white colour, further enhancing the striking exterior features of this 115m luxury Superyacht LUNA.

The Luxury yacht LUNA has an interior designed by the distinguished designer Donald_Starkey . Her innovative exterior styling was designed by Newcruise Design which featuring two helicopter pads facing forward and to the rear around the large communications tower. The Explorer Yacht LUNA also features transom doors at the sides, which lead directly to that yacht’s high quality tenders.

M/Y LUNA has an expansive open aft deck that boasts a covered swimming pool and sunbathing areas, with a dedicated open luxury leisure area featuring a beach club leading down to the swim platform.

The superyacht Luna is truly an expedition yacht allowing her owner to cruise great distances without having to refuel in pure luxury, even while traversing rough seas.

It is understood that Megayacht ECLIPSE , which is soon to become the world’s largest superyacht, will also be delivered to the same owner as Superyacht LUNA, in time for summer.

LunaSea Yacht : An Insider’s Guide

LunaSea Yacht was built in 2017 with naval architecture by the Feadship shipyard. Both the interior and exterior design was handled by Redman Whiteley Dixon. The hull is made of steel, while the superstructure is made of aluminum. The vessel also features teak-laid decks. The yacht is known for having one of the most extensive toy selections for a yacht of its size and the eye-catching pool on deck, which we’ll discuss in more detail later. She’s registered in the Cayman Islands.

Who Owns the LunaSea Yacht?

The LunaSea is owned by Yahn Bernier, the millionaire developer and director at Valve Corporation. Valve is a video game developer, and the company is the source of most of Bernier’s $500 million fortune. 

The yacht was initially built for John Symond, an Australian businessman who founded Aussie Home Loans financial company. Under his ownership, the vessel was known as Hasna. However, Symonds put the yacht up for sale in 2019, and in 2020 Bernier bought it and renamed it LunaSea, a play, of course, on the word lunacy.

How Big is the Yacht LunaSea?

LunaSea is a substantial yacht with an impressive 239′ 6″ length. Her beam is just over 39 feet and has a gross tonnage of 1,577 GT. While she’s not the largest yacht in the world by a good stretch, she qualifies as what many people would call a superyacht.

How Much Did the LunaSea Cost?

Though the purchase price for the LunaSea is hard to nail down in terms of when John Symond first purchased it, he sold it to Yahn Bernier in 2020 for about 99 million Euros. That works out to around 110 million American dollars. There are many more expensive yachts, like the Azzam or Jeff Bezos’ yacht, but this is still quite pricey.

Can You Charter the LunaSea?

The LunaSea is available for charter. Large luxury yachts can often charter for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, several countries offer tax breaks for yachts if registered as charter yachts, which is appealing to owners. The other reason is that, as a yacht owner, you can make a lot of your yearly operating costs by chartering.

The LunaSea costs about $800,000 per week plus expenses to charter up to around $875,000 in the high season. Average yacht costs for a vessel of this size can run up to $4 million yearly or more for fuel, crew salaries, etc. So a few charter weeks per year and the yacht can be a net gain for the owner.

How Fast is the LunaSea and What Engines Does it Use?

The LunaSea runs on twin 1,850 hp MTU 12V4000 M53 engines. That provides a cruising speed of 14 knots and a maximum speed of 16 knots. The vessel has a range of up to 5,500 nautical miles at 12 knots, thanks to the 167,110-liter fuel tanks.

What’s the Interior of the LunaSea Yacht Like?

The superyacht LunaSea has room on board for 12 guests in 7 suites. This includes the master suite, which is located on the main deck. Beyond that, there is one VIP cabin, two double cabins, and two twin cabins for guests. 

The interior design has been described as “beach-chic” and allows for an easy transition from formal gatherings to family trips to even a party atmosphere. The overall color scheme and aesthetic are laid back with soft, neutral tones and gold accents. 

The full beam master suite includes several features, including its study, lounge, and dressing room, as well as his and her bathroom set up. However, the list of overall amenities makes the LunaSea stand out as a real luxury experience.

• A glass-fronted, 8-meter infinity pool is a prominent feature on the aft deck. The glass front end is a waterfall feature and allows light into the beach club below.

• A large beach club has plenty of room to relax, soak up the sun, or enjoy drinks.
• The well-equipped gym allows excellent ocean views, thanks to fold-down sea terraces, so you can exercise while you enjoy the sea air.
• The sun deck jacuzzi allows further relaxation under the sun and is next to an indoor/outdoor bar, so refreshments are always close at hand. It’s surrounded by a large area of lounge space as well.
• An elevator that allows guests to travel conveniently between decks.
• Dining areas are located on the sun deck and the bridge deck aft.
• The main salon has a fully-stocked bar to provide an extensive selection of mixed drinks and a sizable wine collection.

The Bottom Line

The yacht LunaSea was built by Feadship in 2017. It was commissioned by John Symond and then bought by Yahn Bernier in 2020 for about $110 million. The yacht is nearly 240 feet long and has room for 12 guests. If interested, you can charter LunaSea at $800,000 per week.

´ We do a lot of sailing in Croatia, we come back every year as a large family group. We have tried several different yachts but LUNA is by far the best fit for us. She is really well maintained and has tons of deck space on four levels - so we do not all feel crammed in to a small area. This feels like being on a much more expensive yacht for a fraction of the cost. And the kids love splashing in the jacuzzi and diving off the swimming platform at the back.
