Silent Yachts launches all-electric, 6-passenger Tender 400 that can hit 20 knots
Solar electric yacht builder Silent Yachts has announced an all-electric tender to support its growing lineup of zero-emissions ships. Despite being a tiny vessel, the SILENT Tender 400 was built with the same design standards as Silent Yachts’ larger boats. Built with carbon fiber and up to 30 kW of electric power, the Tender 400 is light and agile, whether it’s sitting on the stern, or transporting up to six people to and from shore. Have a look.
Silent Yachts was founded by Heike and Michael Köhle, who together have sailed over 75,000 nautical miles around the world. Following their extensive travels at sea, the two decided there had to be a better way to propel yachts with clean energy .
After five years of sea trials that began in 2010, Silent Yachts had developed proven solar yacht concept, and began serial production of luxury sustainable vessels in 2016 with the SILENT-64. In the past, we’ve covered Silent Yachts’ larger vessels, like our trip aboard the SILENT-60 , which first debuted in 2021.
As the solar electric yacht developer continues to expand into bigger and better at sea, it has shaken things up with a small but mighty electric tender to provide added mobility to its customers.
Silent Yachts’ electric 400 Tender is ultra light and efficient
According to the press release from Silent Yachts, its all-electric SILENT Tender 400 measures four meters from transom to bow and takes a number of design cues from its 60- and 80-foot siblings, including its signature black and white finish.
Thanks to its carbon fiber design, the electric tender weighs just 90 kg (198 lbs), making its easier to lift in and out of the water using the hydraulic platform on the SILENT-60 for instance. Light weight also makes the all-electric SILENT Tender 400 ultra-efficient, offering the capability to transport at speeds over 20 knots. Founder and CEO Michael Köhler elaborated:
We are very proud to present the new SILENT Tender 400, which is one of the most efficient electric tenders on the market. It follows the same design principles as our award-winning electric yachts, with dimensions that enable it to fit both the SILENT 60 series and SILENT 80 series yachts. What is more, the hull gives passengers a really dry ride, even at speed and in confused seas.
Yacht owners who add the electric tender can choose between 20 kW inboard waterjet propulsion system, or a sportier outboard motor capable of 20 or 30 kW. Customers can also choose between a 16 kWh or upgraded 20 kWh lithium battery. Silent Yachts states the electric tender can cruise comfortably at 10 knots for at lease two hours before needing to recharge. With fast charging onboard, the SILENT Tender 400 can replenish in 2.5 hours.
This electric tender is currently designed for the SILENT-60 solar electric yacht, but can also be used on the SILENT-80 or any other yacht. Looking ahed, the company says it is already developing a larger, 5.1 meter electric tender designed specifically for its SILENT-80 series at the request of its customers. Weighing less than 200 pounds, the ST400 can be easily deployed and retrieved by the mothership. If that’s a Silent 60, for instance, the tender can be lifted out of the water using the 60-footer’s hydraulic bathing platform.
In addition, Silent’s founder and CEO Michael Köhler says the ST400 is one of the most efficient electric tenders on the market. Owners can pick between inboard propulsion in the form of a 20kW electric waterjet or an outboard motor good for either 20kW or 30kW. The range-topper can hit 20 knots at full tilt.
Battery capacity is also your choice. The tender can be fitted with a standard 16kWh lithium battery or an upgraded 20kWh unit for more range. You can expect at least two hours of drive time when cruising at 10 knots. Fast charging can also replenish the battery in just 2.5 hours.
Onboard, the tender features a central console and intuitive controls, including a throttle, a wheel and a display showing all the vitals. There is seating for six and the yard says passengers will enjoy a dry ride even at speed.
The best part? Silent is already working on a larger, 17-foot electric tender to pair with the Silent 80. “This has been a repeated request from our owners—and one that we are delighted to respond to,” Köhler adds.

Silent-Yachts’ Quiet Companion
- By David Schmidt
- July 11, 2023
Silent-Yachts , which is based in Mallorca, Spain, started building its fleet of solar-powered electric catamarans in 2016. The Silent Tender 400 is the company’s first tender, and another, larger version is already on the drawing board. The DNA is obvious: The ST400 employs lightweight carbon fiber and an efficient hull shape to deliver a sporty-looking ride.
The tender can be ordered with an owner’s choice of an electric outboard or an electric jet drive; customers can also choose a 16-kilowatt-hour lithium battery or upgrade to a 20 kWh battery for longer reach. The boat purportedly allows for two hours of run time at 10 knots, and it can be fast-charged in two and a half hours.
The 13-foot ST400 accommodates up to six passengers but weighs only 198 pounds, excluding propulsion. The boat is a center-console that borrows aesthetic choices from the company’s 60- and 80-foot catamarans, including angular lines, a distinctive black-and-white finish and stem-to-stern chines. The ST400 also carries a practical yet stylish rubber stripe that helps protect its carbon-fiber topsides from docks, davits and poor docking decisions.
Whom It’s For: Boaters who want a high-tech, lightweight and performance-minded tender that can do 20-plus knots sans a traditional internal-combustion engine.
Picture This: You and your family are cruising Cape Cod, Massachusetts, aboard the solar-powered Silent 60 catamaran. You tuck into Provincetown for the evening. The mooring lines are secured, and you and the troops cruise over to Long Point Light Station in your ST400 before making a harbor tour and then heading to the Lobster Pot for dinner and drinks.

The electric-powered, super lightweight Silent Tender 400 is like nothing we’ve seen before…
Silent Yachts is best known for its large and efficient solar-powered catamarans , but its new baby the Silent Tender 400 is a four-metre, carbon-fibre, rigid-hull planing boat.
Able to carry six people ‘with ease’, it’s small enough to fit on the bathing platform of Silent Yachts’ smallest 60ft powercat but crucially, that carbon-fibre construction means that, at 90kg (excluding motor), it’s also light enough.
Buyers are able to choose between various inboard and outboard propulsion options. Inboard power comes in the form of a 20kW electric water jet, offering extremely low draft and ease of handling as well as the safety benefits of no exposed propeller.

Silent-Yachts launches carbon-fibre electric tender
Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022
Written by: Chantal Haines
Silent-Yachts, builder of solar-electric yachts, has revealed its first dedicated tender design — the Silent Tender 400.
The Silent Tender 400 (ST400) is an electric tender that measures four metres from transom to bow. The boat borrows a number of the style cues from the boat builder’s much larger 60ft and 80ft electric catamarans, including angular lines, the rebated bulwark and black and white finish.
The model’s carbon fibre lay-up ensures that the hull weighs no more than 90kg. That means it is lighter to lift out using the hydraulic bathing platform of a Silent 60, easier for the mother ship to carry and crucially, far more efficient to propel through the water.
“We are very proud to present the new Silent Tender 400, which is one of the most efficient electric tenders on the market,” says Silent-Yachts founder and CEO Michael Köhler. “It follows the same design principles as our award-winning electric yachts, with dimensions that enable it to fit both the Silent 60 series and Silent 80 series yachts. What is more, the hull gives passengers a really dry ride, even at speed and in confused seas.”
Designed to carry six people, the Silent Tender 400 was conceived as a tender for the solar-powered Silent 60 series yachts. But the model can also make a good electric runabout or an efficient tender for a conventional yacht.
Designed with a central console, the Silent Tender 400 has simple, intuitive controls, including a throttle, leather-padded wheel and a display showing speed, heading and depth. Meanwhile, the driver’s seat is flanked by two other seats, and there are two bow seats – all provided with handholds. Boarding is via a step in the lowered bulwarks amidships.
Owners are able to choose between various inboard and outboard propulsion options. Inboard power comes via a 20kW electric waterjet, offering extremely low draught and ease of handling. With the sportier outboard, input power is either 20kW or 30kW, depending on the package selected. The higher rated motor is capable of propelling the boat at more than 20 knots.
For performance reasons, Silent-Yachts has engineered the boat to carry either a standard 16kWh lithium battery or an upgraded 20kWh unit for more range. At a 10-knot cruising speed, owners can expect a minimum of two hours drive time. Fast on-board charging can replenish the battery in just 2.5 hours.
“Silent-Yachts is already working on a larger 5.1m electric tender, specifically designed to fit the garage of the Silent 80 series yachts,” Köhler adds.
Silent-Yachts recently acquired a new-build facility in Fano on Italy’s Adriatic coast , comprising several hangars for building and outfitting its Silent 60 and 80 series models. The site includes five construction sheds with 22,000 m2 of covered space and a similar exterior surface area.

This New 90kg Electric Tender Is The Perfect Companion For Any Yacht
It’s all well and good to have a beautiful yacht moored in the harbour, but if you’re making the journey from the shoreline to your floating pride and joy on a rusty dingy, it’s worth thinking about a new tender. The folks at Silent Yachts have just announced their first electric tender which, despite its lightweight build and compact length, still delivers plenty of power to get you wherever you’re going in a hurry.
The Austrian boatbuilder is best known for its line of sustainable solar-powered speedboats, catamarans and yachts (such as the recently launched 120 Explorer ), making the tender something slightly unexpected from Silent Yachts. However, after receiving consistent client feedback seeking an electrified version of an A-to-B vessel, Silent Yachts got to work creating its first tender that could offer the best of sustainable power in a sleekly compelling package.

SILENT Tender 400
Silent and sprightly, this carbon-fibre tender weighs not much more than an inflatable.
Built to an exacting standard, the electric drivetrain of the SILENT Tender 400 makes it a boat that lives up to its name. Measuring just 4m, it borrows many of its style cues from SILENT-YACHTS’ 60ft and 80ft electric catamarans. Its carbon lay-up ensures that the hull weighs no more than 90kg, which is similar to the weight of a 4m inflatable, making it an easy lift for most davit systems. Designed to carry six people with ease, the SILENT Tender 400 was conceived as the ultimate tender for the solar-powered SILENT 60 series of yachts, as well as serving as a fun electric runabout-cum-mini sports boat.
It is a compact sports boat in its own right.
Designed with a central console, the Tender 400 has simple intuitive controls, specifically a throttle, a leather-padded wheel and a display showing speed, heading and depth. The helm seat is flanked by two other seats, and there are two bow seats – all with practical handholds. Boarding is via a step in the lowered bulwarks amidships. Owners are able to choose between various inboard and outboard propulsion options. Inboard power comes via a 20kW electric water jet, offering an extremely low draught – ideal for slipping onto the beach. With the sportier outboard, input power is either 20kW or 30kW, depending on the package selected. The higher-rated motor is capable of propelling the boat at more than 20 knots. Battery capacity comes in either the standard 16kWh lithium battery or an upgraded 20kWh unit for more range. At a 10-knot cruising speed there is a minimum of two hours of power, though this will no doubt drop to less than an hour at full speed. Fast on-board charging can replenish the battery in just 2.5 hours.

Silent 60 and Silent Tender 400 for Cannes
- July 28, 2022
The Austrian-owned builder of solar-electric catamarans will stage the world premiere of the Silent 60 and Silent Tender 400 at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
Silent-Yachts has confirmed that it will stage the boat show debut of the Silent 60 at the Cannes Yachting Festival, which will also mark the world premiere of the Silent Tender 400.
Several units of the Silent 60 have been launched, with the first unit narrowly missing last year’s Cannes show. The unit on display this year is fitted with a kite wing, a light, compact, easy-to-use system that generates up to 10 times more power per square metre than a conventional sail, according to Silent-Yachts.
Launched from a fold-away mast structure on the foredeck, the kite wing can pull the 30-tonne Silent 60 with a speed of 4-5 knots and reduces the consumption of the e-motors, so extending the range. If a fishing line gets entangled in the propellers, for example, the kite can also serve as reserve propulsion, enabling the boat to get to a protected place where the rope can be cut and the prop set free.
The kite wing backs up the Silent 60’s impressive green credentials. The solar powered catamaran carries 42 solar panels for 17kWp of solar energy to drive two electric motors, each up to 340kw.
With a battery capacity of up to 286kWh, the yacht can cruise efficiently with zero emissions solely on solar power for up to 100nm a day for weeks. Featuring a new, high-performance hull form with a longer waterline and reverse bow, the yacht has a cruising speed of 6-8 knots, but can reach up to 20 knots.
Guest accommodation comprises four guest cabins on the lower deck including a spacious master suite, but other layout solutions are available. There are numerous social areas on board including an airy main saloon, aft cockpit, flybridge and cosy bow area. The yacht also has high headroom throughout, up to 2.32m in the saloon.
The first Silent Tender will also be on display in Cannes. The ST400 model is 4m long and built of carbon-fibre. It can be lifted out of the water and stored on the hydraulic stern platform of the Silent 60 and then recharged with solar energy produced by the Silent yacht.
It’s available with two different electric drivetrains. Option one is an electric jet drive. Alternatively, the ST400 can also be equipped with a conventional electric outboard engine with up to 30kW. Both systems enable a top speed of above 20 knots. A larger Silent Tender is already being planned.
Michael Köhler, founder and CEO of Silent-Yachts, said: “I’m immensely proud of what Silent-Yachts has achieved over the years and the first Silent Tender 400 is just the latest innovation in our sustainability journey.
“After starting with research into solar yacht technology, we have evolved and expanded both our product lines and production space. But we remain true to our roots of harnessing new technology and clean energy to promote sustainability.” www.silent-yachts.com
