Below Deck Down Under: Captain Jason Strips Down to His and Skivvies and Gives Guests a Very Personal Touch

Bravo's cruise ship reality show returns for season 2, with Captain Jason Chambers and Chief Stew Aesha Scott welcoming a new crew of yachties — and plenty of rowdy charter guests

Erin Clack is a Staff Editor for PEOPLE. She has been writing about fashion, parenting and pop culture for more than 15 years.

It looks like choppy waters are ahead for Below Deck Down Under .

The first trailer for season 2 of the Bravo series, which was first shared by Travel + Leisure on Wednesday, teases plenty of drama on the high seas as Captain Jason Chambers and his crew host a new roster of VIP guests for adventures around scenic Australia. At first, things appear pretty buttoned-up, with Captain Jason, 38, sharing his intention in a voiceover to run a very tight ship during the charter season ahead. “This season, from the captain’s point of view, I have to look after my standards. That’s five-star silver service. As a team, we’re not going to settle for anything less than perfection.”

But of course there will be shenanigans, from an equipment malfunction to glasses shattering while guests are dining.

Then, viewers get to see a whole new side of the Captain as he goes the extra mile for his guests during an underwear-only party. The experienced seaman opts for a pair of blue and white striped briefs while assisting the crew in carrying food out on platters.

Later, he's shown serving breakfast in bed — and even hand-feeding a bite — to a female guest while wearing a masquerade-style mask and holding a red rose in his teeth.

Captain Jason will once again be joined by chief stew Aesha Scott, who also appeared in seasons 4 and 5 of Below Deck Mediterranean . Other crew members include chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph, bosun Luke Jones, deckhands Adam Lukasiewicz and Harry Van Vliet, and stews Laura Bileskaine and Margot Sisson.

Laurent Basset/Peacock

Captain Jason told the T+L that fans can expect to see some incredible sights from the comfort of their couch as the yacht cruises the cerulean waters around Cairns, notably the Great Barrier Reef.

“This season is going to have even more underwater scenery and activities to show what North Queensland, Australia, really has to offer,” he said. “As for the crew, Aesha and I work stronger than ever as a duo. There's also a lot of emotional crew drama and entertaining guests. This season is worth the wait and is the perfect summertime escape.”

A Bravo spokesperson also hinted to T+L of some juicy costar drama, including a feud between Captain Jason and the chef, several burgeoning boatmances and the arrival of an “unexpected newcomer” who comes to “rock the boat” as part of a franchise crossover that's sure to excite Below Deck diehards.

The original Below Deck series was an instant hit, gifting viewers with multiple spinoffs since its debut in 2013. First airing on Peacock in May 2022, Below Deck Down Under became the third spinoff within this ever-expanding nautical franchise. Following the successful first showing, Bravo began to rebroadcast this entertaining new series on July 2022.

Underneath the guests quarters, multiple cameras captured the lives of the crew members onboard, as they lived and worked throughout the 150-foot super yacht. With firings, fights, and flings, Below Deck Down Under quickly found high viewership.

For this series, the 6-weeks of filming, and the guests charters, took place around the northeastern edges of Australia, More specifically in the Whitsunday Islands and in the Great Barrier Reef sections.

Want to know more? Read on. This Below Deck Down Under guide will explore this new series fully for you, while you relax in comfort like the primary charter guest that you are (internally, at least).

Below Deck Down Under Cast Members

Chief Stew Aesha Scott , a former stewardess on Below Deck Mediterranean , led the interior department for Season 1. Joining her team were Stews Tumi Mhlongo and Magda Ziomek . Unfortunately, Magda couldn’t work quickly enough. She was replaced by Taylor Dennison .

Chef Ryan McKeown ‘s Season 1 debut fell flat. Ryan consistently disrespected the guests ‘ wishes, and the asks from various members of the crew, including Captain Jason Chambers . Chef Nate Post saved the day by replacing Ryan.

The exterior department for Season 1 was led by Bosun Jamie Sayed . His team consisted of Deckhands Brittini Burton , Culver Bradbury , and Benny Crawley .

With Season 2 set to air shortly, Aesha is returning to her role, leading Stews Laura Bileskaine and Margot Sisson .

The exterior department, however, was completely recast. Luke Jones will take on the Bosun role, leading Deckhands Harry Van Vilet and Adam Lukasiewicz . That said, Bravo revealed that this department is “initially understaffed,” so another exterior crew member will likely join in at some point.

Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph will be whipping up every meal in the galley for Season 2.

Leading from the wheelhouse since the inaugural episode is Captain Jason. He is the youngest to lead from the helm thus far on any of the Below Deck series.

Memorable Moments

The drama bar started and remained on high during Below Deck Down Under Season 1. In fact, on the crew’s very first charter, a hydraulic leak occurred. As the yacht began to release large plumes of smoke, the crew scrambled to address the issue while also making sure that the guests needs were met.

Throughout the first half of Season 1, Tumi remained a calm, hardworking presence, lending an ear often to Chef Ryan. However, it failed to keep things calm in the galley.

Chef Ryan was fired following a less than great English Tea, compounded by multiple other guest and crew complaints. On this matter, Ryan was filmed muttering “Captain’s a f***ing vagina” while packing his bags. Overhearing this comment, Captain Jason gave Ryan a 25-minute time limit to exit the yacht.

The power struggle didn’t end here. When Ryan finally left, he did so by flashing his bottom at his former captain and crew. Madga left much quieter when her time came, for the record.

Other interpersonal issues quickly formed. Jamie and Ben struggled to work cohesively on the deck while Jamie found Captain Jason to not be as supportive as needed.

Exterior team clashes occurred throughout the entire season, but the most intense moment occurred when the chain locker needed to be managed during deploying. Here, Ben felt like his life was in danger.

Season 2’s trailers currently tease a continuation of new memorable moments.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Episodes

As this spinoff is still relatively young, only 17 episodes of Below Deck Down Under have graced our screens.

However, 17 is a large number for a premiere season, so it’s likely that Season 2 will pack in even more episodes over its duration. In fact, BravoTV even states “beginning Monday, July 24, two new episodes will air back-to-back each week.”

Sound the horns. It’s time to board another season on Below Deck Down Under.

northern sun, below deck down under, superyacht

Inside the star yacht of Below Deck Down Under season two

Television network Bravo will begin airing season two of Below Deck Down Under on 17 July, a Below Deck spin-off which follows a yacht crew over an eight-week charter season in Australia. This instalment sees Captain Jason Chambers return at the helm, cruising guests around the warm, tropical waters and colourful cays of the near-uninhabited Whitsunday Islands. Making her debut down under is Northern Sun , a Japanese superyacht with an unexpected history. BOAT takes a look inside…

Delivered in 1976 under the name Hokko Maru (“Northern Light”), Northern Sun has lived a full and fascinating life. At 50.8 metres, she was the largest yacht built by Narasaki Shipbuilding at the time and worked as an ice-class research vessel, analysing marine life and ocean currents in the North Japan Sea. The transformation from ship to superyacht came in 2006 when she underwent a two-year refit, courtesy of her new owners.

Northern Sun has the hardy constitution of an explorer, marking a departure from the first season’s white boat Keri Lee III .

When her current owners undertook renovations, they were intent to elevate her to superyacht standards while still maintaining her distinctive look. Her old windlasses are still visible on the forward deck, the master cabin has retained its original camber and even the engine room looks exactly as it did when she was a research ship. "Looks" being the operative word, of course – she’s had several system upgrades since the 70s.

Interiors include natural materials such as narra and makore wood (commonly known as cherry mahogany). This dark wood furniture and wall panelling give Northern Sun her warm, traditional feel, while the cabins themselves are dotted with the owners’ collection of travel paraphernalia. It makes for an eclectic living space, with indoor sofa seating accented by authentic Persian rugs and the formal dining room and master suite fixed with guild-frame, 19th century oil paintings. Keep an eye out for one of the owners’ most coveted pieces, a 100-year-old ship’s clock which still rings out the two-hour, maritime work shift also known as "the dog watch".

Northern Sun’s main deck is dedicated entirely to entertainment, from the al fresco dining area to the main saloon with its piano and games table. Other leisure highlights include gym equipment, a dedicated library on the lower deck and an outdoor Jacuzzi, surrounded by sun pads and lounge beds. The owners’ addition of a forward seating area during her refit allows for versatile recreation, whether the mood calls for cocktail parties or quiet, waterside contemplation.

The superyacht naturally has impressive stowing capacity, with space for scuba-diving equipment, a waterski and a two-deck-high inflatable water slide. There are also two Laser sailboats, enabling nimbler exploration along Australia’s shallow bays and coral reefs.

The owners spent ten years cruising through Southeast Asia after Northern Sun was refitted. Using the superyacht as a base for adventures, they've scuba-dived in the Andaman Sea, kayaked in the mangrove swamps of Phang Nga Bay and explored some of Indonesia’s most remote fishing islands. In 2015, they decided to put Northern Sun on the charter market, where she quickly became one of the most popular yachts available in Thailand. Now, she’s made her way across the seas to become the breakout star of Below Deck Down Under .

Captain Jason will be joined by returning chief stew Aesha Scott, working alongside a brand-new crew.

Northern Sun is currently listed with Ocean Independence , with a weekly charter starting from $161,700 and an asking price of $15,000,000.

Below Deck Down Under season 2 cast: meet the crew of the Northern Sun

Set sail with Captain Jason and his crew.

Captain Jason Chambers on the Northern Sun in Below Deck Down Under season 2

It's time to set sail again with Captain Jason and the Chief Stew Aesha on the M/Y Northen Sun in Below Deck Down Under season 2 .

This season, Captain Jason and Aesha will be joined by a new crew in the majestic waters of Cairns, Australia, as they take charter guests on unforgettable trips at the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef.

UPDATE: Two crew members, Luke Jones and Laura Bileskalne, were fired after non-consensual sexual advances toward coworkers.

Let's meet the crew of Below Deck Down Under season 2.

Captain Jason Chambers

Captain Jason Chambers in Below Deck Down Under season 2

Captain Jason Chambers hails from Gosford, Australia. The Scorpio was born November 10 and has 23 years' experience in yachting. When he's not on the water he enjoys freediving and exploring, and watching Bravo's Vanderpump Rules .

When he's away on charter, he misses being near his daughter the most. His favorite charter destination is Papua New Guinea.

Captain Jason sums up Below Deck Down Under in these three words: "dramatic, wet, emotional."

Chief Stew Aesha Scott

Aesha Scott in Below Deck Down Under season 2

Chief Stew Aesha Scott is from Tauranga, New Zealand. The Sagittarius was born November 27 and has 8 years' experience in yachting.

She's an avid hiker and loves doing yoga and reading, and she also loves enjoying a  cocktail while reading a good book in the sun. When she's not working on charter, she sneaks away to send a message to family or take a nap.

While cleaning the bathroom isn't the most fun, Aesha enjoys the ability to have some alone time while getting her work done and the guest bathrooms are the best place for that. She shares that many people don't believe it when she says stews don't spend a lot of time outside while on charter, and that's why they're not as tan as you might expect.

She sums up season 2 with these three words: "unexpected emotional rollercoaster."

Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph

Tzarina Mace-Ralph in Below Deck Down Under season 2

Chef Tzarina is from Bristol, England. Born April 13, she's an Aries with 4 years of yachting experience.

When she's not on the boat she enjoys a good night out with friends and meeting new people. When she's in her room during a break she enjoys watching movies, sleeping and sneaking a few snacks, or enjoying the latest ship gossip. Her favorite charter destination is Antigua.

Tzarina took one look at the Northern Sun and thought, "Is this the Antiques Roadshow on water?"

Deckhand Adam Kodra

Adam Kodra in Below Deck Down Under season 2

Deckhand Adam is a Brooklyn, New York, native. He was born on December 31, which makes him a Capricorn. He's a new yachtie with only a year of experience, but he learned how to navigate using the stars so he's ready to take on the high seas on the Northern Sun.

He misses his family when he's on charter, and though he works on boats he's known to get seasick. His favorite destination is Fitzroy Island, Australia.

Stewardess Margot Sisson

Margo Sisson in Below Deck Down Under season 2

Stewardess Margot is a Seattle, Washington, native. She was born August 28, which makes her a Virgo, and she has 2 years of yachting experience. She loves exploring new cities and finding all of the good bakeries.

She's friends with Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Natasha DeBourg, and when she's not on charter she enjoys watching Bravo.

Once on charter a guest asked her to pop a zit on his back, but it was actually a boil.

If she could trade places with another Below Deck member, it would be Courtney Skippon because she's always surrounded by "scenic views, self-care, nature, good food and the people she loves most."

FIRED: Stewardess Laura Bileskalne

Laura Bileskaine in Below Deck Down Under season 2

UPDATE: Laura was fired for making non-consensual sexual advances toward fellow co-worker Kodra, and for being critical of the decision to fire Luke instead of giving him a warning.

Stewardess Laura is a native of Riga, Latvia. This Taurus was born May 15 and has 3 years of yachting experience. She enjoys dancing, playing pool, concerts and hiking when she's not on charter. She's a fan of all the Bravo shows.

Her favorite destination on charter is Key West, Florida, and one thing that might surprise people about working on a boat is that the crew doesn't spend much time in the water. She points out that the crew doesn't have a luxurious life like their guests.

Deckhand Harry Van Vliet

Harry Van Vliet on Below Deck Down Under season 2

Deckhand Harry hails from Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. His birthday is April 1 and he's an Aries with 3 years of yachting experience. When not on charter he enjoys scuba diving, surfing, wakeboarding, camping and anything outdoors. His special trait is being able to make friends with everyone.

When he's away on charter he misses his friends and good pub food.

When he first saw the Northern Sun he thought it was a great adventure boat and he loved it. His favorite destination is Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

FIRED: Bosun Luke Jones

Bosun Luke Jones on Below Deck Down Under season 2

UPDATE: Luke Jones was fired after making non-consensual sexual advances toward a fellow crew member.

Bosun Luke calls Gold Coast, Australia, home. Born June 19, this Gemini has 7 years of yachting experience. He enjoys networking, skydiving and anything that gets him in the water.

He feels like the world is his home so he doesn't miss being away. He was lucky enough to be based in the Seychelles for four years.

When working on boats, he notes that you're isolated from friends and family. But it's also about opening the mind to new people and experiences. "You're going with the wind letting yourself be free with the travels."

Below Deck Down Under season 2 airs Mondays at 8 pm ET/PT on Bravo.

Below Deck Down Under Recap: Red Flags Everywhere

Below deck down under.

yachting down under

Down Under saw Sailing Yacht give us a dramatic love triangle and said, “Hold my beer!” As Aesha says, we’re witnessing a love pentagon take shape. At the center of it is Luke, who’s involved in a love triangle with Margot, who sort of likes Harry, and Laura, who’s interested in Adam. There’s also a budding romance between the CEO and cheffy, which is exciting. It’s all turning into a huge mess, and I’m here for it!

After Luke and Laura finish their makeout sesh, he tells Margot that he doesn’t want to cause any confusion. Then they head to the secluded restroom area where he apologizes for putting her in that situation and Margot says that she likes Harry but doesn’t want to be attached at the hip with him. Poor Harry, who’s sitting at a table expressing how much he likes Margot. Then Luke and Margot kiss — feign your surprise. The fact that she’s falling for his bullshit after literally witnessing him kiss Laura with her own two eyes is a mystery to me. He’s not worth it!!

Everyone then heads back to the boat to continue the party in the jacuzzi. While Margot’s hanging out in the crew mess with Harry, Laura, who thinks she’s the chosen one, goes to Luke’s cabin and tells him she’ll “make your jacuzzi warm,” which made me cringe. Then they make out some more, which Margot walks in on. Meanwhile, Culver FaceTimes his mom and introduces her to Tzarina, who says, “Explain your son to me before I fall in love.” Culver and Tzarina have been flirty all night — their chemistry’s evident — and they share a quick kiss later in the evening. I’m here for a romance between them, but I hope it doesn’t turn out like Culver’s season-one boatmance with Brittini.

Laura interrupts a game of truth or dare in the hot tub because she wants Luke to help her look for her phone. They head downstairs, and soon enough they’re, presumably, boning in the shower. Aesha, queen of eavesdropping, gives us her insight: “I hate shower sex, you can’t get proper friction going. Why bother?” I love her so much. Margot expresses that she feels like an idiot for pursuing Luke. Then stop!! Surely she’s smart enough to know that he’s the type of guy who doesn’t care about a woman’s feelings.

When Luke heads to bed, Laura decides to join him. Luke’s flabbergasted because he thought it was just a hook-up. I mean, Laura told us she isn’t playing around because she wants to get wifed up. Meanwhile in the crew mess, Margot and Harry, both shitfaced, eat ramen and talk about how personality and genuine feelings are more important than looks (a.k.a. what Luke goes for). Then they kiss! It’s sweet, and I sort of love them together. However, I feel like Harry is collateral damage in her situationship with Luke and will ultimately get his heart broken.

The next morning, Laura tells us that she gets what she wants because she’s a Taurus. As a Taurus, I think I speak for everyone when I say we don’t claim her. While helping Luke fold his clothes and clean his cabin, Laura tells him, “I’m your girlfriend.” She claims it’s a joke, but it’s the moment that Luke realizes the severity of what he just got himself into. Laura is a stage-five clinger, and she strikes me as someone who doesn’t take rejection well.

Out on deck, Luke tells the boys that the teak looks “filthy” because — surprise, surprise — Adam failed to properly wash it again. Harry says that Adam’s approach to the job is unfair to the rest of the crew, and I agree. He willingly accepted this position as someone with the least yachting experience, so it’s annoying that he thinks he’s above it all. However, I do also feel bad for him since he may be experiencing culture shock, especially having come from a different background than most of the crew.

At the preference-sheet meeting, we learn that our primaries are Rene Ramirez and his wife Sandra, who are being joined by their friends and employees. The preference sheet lists a handful of dietary restrictions for several guests, including no red meat, pork, wheat, and dairy. This is a true test of Tzarina’s abilities, and she’s got her work cut out for her.

Let’s take a moment to talk about Laura’s behavior this morning. When she woke up, she had a beer, and then she’s shown having a glass of wine shortly after. For someone who prides herself on being a perfect worker, drinking on the job isn’t a good look for Laura. It’s a fireable offense, and she’s just lucky that Margot hasn’t told anyone else.

In the galley, Luke tells Aesha that the previous night was a “damned if I do, damned if I don’t” situation, and Laura overhears them talking about her. Luke tries to fix the situation by saying that he doesn’t want to lead her and Margot on. He adds that he doesn’t want to get involved in the drama, even though he’s literally the person at the center of it! My hatred for him grows the more I hear him speak. Margot walks in on this chat and becomes annoyed with him because he’s a walking red flag. And yet, she clearly continues to have feelings for him.

The guests finally arrive, and they seem like a fun bunch. Rene tells Aesha to let him know if they get too wild, and Aesha jokes that “the more fucked up you get, the better because it’s more entertaining for me.” They’re the type of charter guests who are happy as long as they have a drink in their hands, and it can’t get better than that.

Meanwhile, Laura always finds something to nitpick, and this time she’s chosen to criticize Aesha for using store-bought lime juice for margaritas as opposed to squeezing fresh limes. Aesha says she does it to save time, but Laura argues that it doesn’t taste the same. As if those drunk guests are going to taste the difference. Maybe instead of taking several hours to get ready, she can cut and juice the limes herself.

After a sushi lunch, the guests go snorkeling despite the rainy weather. Adam is annoyed that Luke tasks him with organizing the deckhand garage because he once again thinks it’s beneath him. I don’t get why he’s complaining, especially when he’s afraid of water and apparently can’t swim and therefore probably wouldn’t even enjoy the snorkeling.

When they return, Luke tells Margot that he wasn’t “100 percent down” with what happened with Laura and didn’t expect to be taken down to his cabin, even though he was the one who suggested they go into the shower. Margot tells us that after hearing this, she doesn’t have a crush on Luke and that he isn’t her type. It mostly just sounds like she’s trying to convince herself that she doesn’t like him when she obviously does. When Laura joins them, Luke tells her that she should “get around” with the other guys. Although I’m not Laura’s biggest fan, his comment was gross and disrespectful.

Then, Margot tells Aesha about her and Harry’s kiss, admitting that it “felt really nice” and that she might like him. Honestly, I have the feeling that Margot is only going for Harry because Luke is a player who isn’t giving her his undivided attention. Meanwhile, Laura, feeling rejected by Luke, decides to pursue Adam again. She asks him if her kissing Luke changed his perception of her, and Adam says no because he just wants to be friends with everyone. Laura asks if he kisses his friends, and Adam’s like, “Why are you asking me all these questions?” He’s clearly annoyed and has made it clear that he isn’t romantically interested in her. And yet, Laura shares in a confessional that Adam acting like a “dick” just turns her on and makes her want to chase him even more.

For Rene’s birthday dinner, Tzarina’s stressed about the dietary restrictions, specifically those of guest Janae. She decides to serve her dishes that are different from everyone else, which unfortunately backfires. For the starter, Tzarina makes lamb with jalapeño poppers, and Janae gets a tuna tartare tostada. Several of the guests tell Aesha that they won’t eat the lamb since, like they stated on their preference sheets, they don’t eat red meat and ask if they can have what Janae’s having. Aesha breaks the news to Tzarina, who was so focused on Janae that she forgot about everyone else’s restrictions. What’s worse is that she doesn’t have more tostadas, so instead she serves them sad-looking plates of a single jalapeño popper. This probably could’ve been avoided if she had chosen to make everyone fish or chicken. Aesha thinks it’s unprofessional and that Tzarina should’ve had a backup plan, and while I’ve loved her so far, I agree that this was a huge misstep on her part. She may not have deserved the disco helmet last charter, but she sure as hell does now.

The Untold Truth Of Below Deck Down Under

Captain Jason Chambers on WWHL

The " Below Deck" franchise has gone to the Caribbean. It has taken the Mediterranean. It has sailed around Greece and Croatia. And thanks to the fourth iteration of the franchise, it has headed to Australia. Like its predecessors, "Below Deck Down Under" follows a group of yachties as they work and party, and there is no shortage of boozy, boisterous boat-filled drama to keep you afloat. The shows in the "Below Deck" universe are  consistently ranked as some of Bravo's most-watched programs, and the franchise shows no signs of slowing down; "Below Deck Down Under" premiered on Peacock in 2022 and quickly proved there is no such thing as too much "Below Deck."

"Down Under" follows the tried and true "Below Deck" formula: An attractive crew of seafaring individuals live and work on a souped-up charter yacht for a set number of weeks and cameras catch all of the goings-on. From designing elaborate table settings to planning extravagant meals to navigating dockings, there's plenty of workplace mayhem to be had, as well as a seemingly never-ending stream of interpersonal drama. Strap in, because we are about to get into the untold truth of "Below Deck Down Under."

Aesha Scott wasn't sure she'd come back

Franchise veteran Aesha Scott made her triumphant return to Bravo on "Below Deck Down Under" Season 1, and she continues to bring the same humor that fans fell in love with during "Below Deck Mediterranean" Season 4 and Season 5. On "Down Under," she traded her second stew stripes for the silver stripes of a chief stew. While it's a stressful gig, the New Zealand native was eager to rise to the occasion. As she told  Bravo Insider , "It's just so, so exciting because I think, you know, I'd been second [stew] for a long time... I'm one of those people in life where it's like, if you're too comfortable, then you need to change because you should always be growing and always challenging yourself."

Scott's job title isn't the only major change. As she shared near the top of the first season of "Down Under," the "Below Deck" star is in a committed relationship with boyfriend Scott Dobson ; her days of boat-mances, a la her fling with former "Below Deck: Med" castmate Jack Stirrup, may very well be a thing of the past.

Though Scott was an immediate fan favorite, her return to the "Below Deck" universe wasn't always a given. As she told ET in 2020, "I think if [Bravo] asked me [to be chief stew], it's definitely something that I would think about ... do feel very checked out of yachting." Thankfully, she's checked back in.

A Below Deck alum told Jason Chambers to join

Standing at the helm of Season 1 of "Below Deck Down Under" is Captain Jason Chambers. The youngest captain to ever be a part of the "Below Deck" franchise, Chambers has logged over 20 years of experience on the water. And we have series alum and fellow Aussie  Hannah Ferrier  to thank for the telegenic captain's involvement in the series. "I reached out to her about the conversations I had with the production team," Chambers shared with Decider , "and she told me: 'You're a great fit for it. Just be yourself and just go and have fun.'"

While "Below Deck" viewers have watched some chief stews and captains clash in the past, it sure seems like Aesha Scott and Chambers get along swimmingly — partly because he's such a team player. As she shared on Ferrier's " Dear Reality, You're Effed " podcast, Chambers helped out the interior team regularly. "Every extra job that I just could not deal with, he was doing it behind the scenes. And I didn't even ask him," she shared. When Ferrier said he'd be a great fit, she wasn't kidding.

While the captain is all business when it comes to yachting, he wouldn't say no to any and all future boat-mances. When asked about his romantic life on  "Watch What Happens Live ," Chambers told Andy Cohen he was open to being in a relationship with a stew. We can only imagine what the stack of crew applications looks like.

The crew makes bank

If you're up working hard in some of the most luxurious locations in the world, yachting just might be your calling. So, how much might one rake in as a crew member on a 181-foot yacht like the one on "Below Deck Down Under"?  According to Crewfinders , deckhands and stews on a superyacht of this size can bring in over $60,000 a year, the chief stew and the chef can make as much as $84,000 a year, the bosun at least $66,000, and the captain can earn six figures.

On top of that, there's the whole TV show factor. Former cast member Eddie Lucas made waves when he mentioned money matters to the New York Post in 2022. "While we do get paid better than a normal yachtie, of course, we are still not getting paid what people like the Housewives are making, which is a little frustrating, because they're not really working — they're just going out to dinner and fighting," he stated. Zoinks.

On an episode of "Pop-Off! with James," former deckhand Rhylee Gerber theorized that the constant rotation of crew members each season may have something to do with why the yacht crew is paid less than established "Real Housewives" stars. "If [Lucas] said that, number one, we are paid much, much, much, much, much less than the Housewives, which is crazy because it's Bravo," she said. "It's still a big network. There's still a big production company behind it. They've got the money."

Yes, guests pay to be on the boat

Chartering a fully staffed yacht is expensive no matter how you slice it, and as producer Mark Cronin shared in a Reddit AMA , a primary guest on a "Below Deck" series pays about half of what it'd cost if cameras were not around. So how much can a three-day vacation on a lavish superyacht in some of the most captivating places in the world set a "Below Deck" guest back? While we don't know the exact price of a "Below Deck Down Under" charter, we can develop a guesstimate based on a report by blind item gossip Instagram account DeuxMoi (via Bravo After Thoughts ).

In 2020, DeuxMoi shared a list of details that were reportedly given to "Below Deck Mediterranean" Season 6 guests. "We have two charters that will be 2 nights, 3 days for the discounted price of $40,000. There are 5 charters that are 3 night, 4 days at $45,000," reads the doc. It goes on to confirm travel, food, and beverages are all included in that ticket price.

As for the tip? The guests are expected to cough up at least 15% of the total original cost (i.e., the price before the "Below Deck" discount). However, as Cronin told Bravo's The Daily Dish , the gratuity amount is left up to the guests' discretion. As "Below Deck" viewers know, guest tips do not always live up to expectation.

Captain Jason Chambers crashed a superyacht

Captain Jason Chambers is known for stealing hearts, yes, but he also made a bit of a name for himself after he crashed a superyacht. The newest "Below Deck "  captain had a titanic fail in Cairns when the 45.6-meter superyacht he was captaining narrowly missed smashing right into a restaurant. In 2019, he was at the wheel when a mechanical failure caused the luxury watercraft to careen into the marina.

Customers at the neighboring floating restaurant Prawn Star were certainly in for dinner and a show. "It was scary, people were screaming and very frightened. But no one was hurt and that's the most important thing," Prawn Star's manager told ABC at the time. The "Below Deck Down Under" star  explained to 7News Cairns  that a jammed gear caused the collision, and he shut down all engines and did what he could under pressure to avoid injuring any people. Thankfully, the multimillion-dollar yacht only sustained superficial damages after the incident, and more importantly, nobody was injured during the commotion.

The chef was ready to be a villain

A "Below Deck" season isn't complete without the chef and chief stew blowing up on each other, and "Below Deck Down Under" is no different. But based on an interview McKeown gave  Showbiz Cheat Sheet , it sounds like the chef was more than happy to play the role of villain. "So, you know, [production is] going to keep people entertained," he said, "And yeah, I anticipated the hate. I really enjoy it because it's only going to make me go further. So, bring it."

McKeown and Scott butted heads about a number of things, such as plating timing and his relatively simple approach to menu planning. In one especially heated interaction that bubbled up in Episode 6 , she questioned his experience as a yacht chef, and he fired back, "I don't know, how many vacuums have you pushed, how many f**king frying pans did you flip? You stick to vacuums, I'll stick to cooking."

Scott didn't mince words when  Decider  asked about McKeown. "I've dealt with other chefs before who could be really mean, but they were amazing at cooking so I gave them a bit of a pass," she said. "Ryan was not a good chef." However, McKeown believes Scott's to blame for why they started off on the wrong foot. "What was one of the first things she said to me? 'What kind of person — are you cheffy?' So, I'm pretty sure arrogance started with her," he said in Bravo's The Daily Dish .

Bosun Jamie Sayed has worn many hats

Before landing gigs on superyachts and launching his reality television debut, Jamie Sayed built up quite an intense resume. The "Below Deck Down Under" bosun told Decider that he worked as a police officer, lifeguard, and soldier before he got into the yachting industry.

For now, you can keep up with Sayed thanks to his very own podcast called " Wake Up With Jamie ." "I was at a bar sitting by myself in Panama, and I noticed some people nearby who were telling stories. I realized that every single person has a story," he recalled to Decider. "So, I thought why don't I create a podcast and start interviewing random people and ask them to share their stories." And as for what else the future may hold for the bosun? It sounds like the sky's the limit — literally. As he told Bravo's The Daily Dish , he hopes not only to become a licensed helicopter pilot, but get his own chopper.

There isn't much privacy on Below Deck

So what do "Below Deck Down Under" cast members have to sacrifice to call some of the most stunning locations in the world their "office"? Well, according to "Below Deck Mediterranean" alum Jessica Moore, most of your personal space goes right out the porthole, for starters. In an interview with In Touch , Moore dished on just how limited alone time is onboard the megayachts. "There's zero privacy unless you're going to the restroom." But even then the bathroom isn't altogether safe. As  The New York Times noted in a 2020 feature about the series, the camera crew may still keep tabs on cast members when they are in the toilet — especially if they aren't alone.

Understandably, this level of surveillance can take some getting used to, but as "Below Deck Down Under" star Captain Jason Chambers told Distractify , it's easy to forget you're on a TV show when you're busy, you know, keeping a giant boat running.

In Season 3 of "Below Deck," things changed in a big way when longtime boson Eddie Lucas and stew Rocky Dakota turned the ship's laundry room into, to borrow a phrase from "Jersey Shore," the smush room. "Below Deck" star Captain Lee Rosbach told Cosmopolitan , "Well, we never used to have cameras in [the laundry room], because, let's face it, there's not a lot of action in there... until that season. Now we have cameras in the laundry room. The show morphs each year." Big "Below Deck" Brother is always watching.

There's a lot of work behind the scenes

There's a lot more to "Below Deck" than meets the eye; not unlike the yacht itself, the series is a well-oiled machine. As noted in Boat International , the show's production team works around the clock. Longtime series EP Tania Hamidi explained to the outlet, "The camera crew are running around and hiding from each other while getting all the action." The behind-the-scenes team may be bigger than you'd expect. According to  The New York Times , around 50 hotel rooms are booked during filming to accommodate the crew.

The production crew has a lot of plates to spin, including keeping tabs on little details. As bosun Eddie Lucas recalled to Cosmopolitan , he got a slap on the wrist after he wound up with a cut on his head from horsing around with Ben Robinson between takes. "I'm pretty sure I had a bald spot and it was bleeding, but we were cracking up about it," said Lucas. "We got yelled at by production." As the magazine pointed out, the sudden change to Lucas' appearance could potentially throw off continuity when it came time to edit the episodes together.

Though viewers don't really get to see the yacht crew and the production crew interact much, it sure sounds like there's a strong bond there. As "Below Deck Down Under" star Aesha Scott told E! News , the production team was one of the main reasons why she was excited to return to "Below Deck."

Why two crew members were fired from ‘Below Deck Down Under’

Producers for the Bravo reality show and members of the crew intervened in a recent episode that showed incidences of sexual misconduct

yachting down under

Two crew members on “Below Deck Down Under” were fired from the superyacht featured on the Bravo show due to sexual misconduct that forced the show’s production team and the boat’s captain to intervene.

Within several minutes of the show’s Aug. 7 episode, producers thwarted boatswain Luke Jones and second steward Laura Bileskalne after they entered other crew member’s bedrooms without their consent and attempted to make sexual advances on their shipmates.

“Our cabin is our safety zone,” the captain of the superyacht, Jason Chambers, told his crew. “That door is our boundary. That door is not to be opened unless it’s consensual.”

Though Chambers said the firings happened over a year ago, footage of the incidents aired for the first time this week, which has brought a lot of attention to the “Below Deck” show from fans who were alarmed by the incidents but impressed by the response of the production crew and other crew members on the boat.

What is ‘Below Deck Down Under?’

The show — which debuted in 2022 — is a spinoff of the reality program “Below Deck,” which has been around for more than a decade. This season focuses on the crew aboard the Northern Sun, a superyacht that hosts guests sailing through the Whitsunday Islands in Australia.

Like other “Below Deck” programs, the episodes show the high-stress and dramatic situations of the crew, who have to contend with wealthy charter guests and the politics on the boat itself. Romantic relationships frequently pop up on the show as the young and attractive crew members spend a lengthy amount of time together away from their family and friends.

The show’s latest episode featured two incidents that led to a pair of firings.

What happened during this episode?

The first incident began after third stew Margot Sisson told chief steward Aesha Scott that she didn’t want to be bothered after a night of drinking. “All I want is water and bed. No Luke,” she said, referencing Jones.

Soon Jones, who was naked at the time, was seen as he attempted to enter Sisson’s bed, despite her being unconscious and, as she recalled later in the episode, “blackout drunk.” Producers, who are not typically on the show, jumped into the scene and forced Jones out of the room despite his heavy protests, expletives and screams. He was then brought to his own quarters, where he locked himself inside.

After learning about what happened from Sisson, a tearful Scott reported the incident to the captain, who quickly kicked Jones off the ship and sent him to a hotel for the night.

“You don’t have the right to put someone unconscious into that position,” Scott told the camera in an interview after the incident. “I have had a drunken sexual-assault experience before, and I never wanted that to happen to anyone else. And she’s just such a sweet angel that the thought of anyone violating or being in her space, it just makes me feel sick.”

The following morning, Sisson, who did not recall details of what had occurred, expressed relief that nothing happened with Jones.

Chambers then called Jones back on board and promptly fired him.

“Last night there were boundaries crossed,” Chambers told Jones. “There was indecency, and you went into someone else’s cabin without consent. Unfortunately, I’ve got nothing else but to terminate your employment.”

Jones then apologized for the incident, “I’m sorry, and I’m just so disappointed in myself.”

What happened in the second incident?

Shortly after Jones was fired from the ship, Sisson discussed the incident with the second steward, Bileskalne. The second steward repeatedly said that she did not agree with Jones’s firing and expressed sympathy toward him.

“Aw, poor Luke,” Bileskalne told Sisson after hearing what happened. “If he comes naked in my cabin I’d be, like, ‘Hello! Yes!’”

After hearing about these insensitive comments, chief steward Scott told the captain that he might need to have a conversation with Bileskalne.

Scott also informed the captain that Bileskalne had separately made a number of unwanted sexual advances toward deckhand Adam Kodra.

Earlier in the Aug. 7 episode, the cameras showed Bileskalne’s attempt to sit on Kodra’s lap in a hot tub and Kodra evading her. Later on, she entered Kodra’s room without his consent and tried to give him a massage, pouring lotion across his back (this appeared to have happened around the same time that Jones entered Sisson’s room). The producers intervened, asking Bileskalne to leave Kodra’s room. She kissed Kodra on the back multiple times before exiting the cabin.

“I told her many times I just want to be friends, but she’s not getting the point across,” Kodra told the camera.

The next morning, Chambers called Bileskalne into his office to talk, where he expressed disappointment for her comments toward Sisson and advances toward Kodra.

“Adam feels uncomfortable with some moments out, and he’s tried to say no, and you have not listened to him and his boundaries to be set,” the captain told Bileskalne the following day.

Chambers said Bileskalne had disrespected him by joking with Sisson about the incident with Jones, despite his conversation with the crew about respecting each other.

“I’m trying to move forward as a team,” he said. “I’m trying to get that behind us, and you’ve brought it straight back up, so in that I’m going to terminate your employment today.”

What has Bravo said about the firings?

Representatives for Bravo and “Below Deck Down Under” declined to comment. Cast members were not made immediately available for interviews.

Has the ‘Below Deck Down Under’ cast responded?

Sisson posted a lengthy message on her Instagram story in which she thanked the producers for helping her throughout the night. She said she was grateful to Scott as well for “the way she recognized the vulnerability of the situation I was in and her courageous intervention.”

“There are unfortunately a lot of captains who would choose to sweep something like this under the rug,” she wrote of Chambers. “I am grateful that Jason is not one of them. Thank you for repeatedly making me feel safe and supported.”

Scott addressed the controversy after the episode aired, saying that everyone has “the right to go out and have fun and feel safe, and that is just the [expletive] end of it. There’s no questions or ifs or buts, that is the end of it. So please keep an eye on your friends and each other.”

Chambers also posted an Instagram video , where he thanked the production team “for breaking the fourth wall and stepping in, then re-forming and allowing Aesha to come to me in an authentic manner and us dealing with as we would as captain and crew.”

Have Jones and Bileskalne made statements?

Bileskalne apologized in an Instagram post published on Aug. 8.

“My sincere apologies to Adam. I did not realize I made him feel uncomfortable, and no one should be put in that position,” she said.

Jones posted a statement on his Instagram, too, according to Entertainment Tonight.

“It doesn’t matter what they think about you because you don’t Care. Everything we Hear is an Opinion, Not a Fact,” he wrote in an Aug. 6 post. “Everything we see is a Perspective. Not the Truth. Take Ownership and move forward.”

This article previously said that Laura Bileskalne apologized in a statement to Entertainment Tonight. Her apology was posted on her Instagram account.

‘Below Deck Down Under’ Hit With $9 Million Lawsuit, Here’s Why

Below Deck Down Under Hit With $9 Million Lawsuit, Here's Why [Credit: YouTube]

Below Deck Down Under premiered earlier this month on Peacock. It’s the latest spinoff series in the ever-growing Below Deck franchise. Fans have already been raving about the new series. But someone issued a $9 million lawsuit. They sued the producers for the damages made to the Thalassa superyacht known as the Keri Lee III.

Captain Jason Chambers has a new crew and a new superyacht. He had to get hands-on with his job to ensure nothing terrible happens. In a confessional, Jason revealed a time when he crashed a superyacht into a marina that was next to a group of diners. According to recent court documents, it sounds like something happened with this new superyacht.

Below Deck Down Under producers responsible for damages made to 55-meter vessel

Starcasm obtained the court documents on Monday, March 28. The filings reveal the Below Deck Down Under producers are in a lawsuit with the owner of the My Thalassa, which has changed its name to the My Keri Lee III. Australian native Trevor Lee and his wife, fashion designer Keri Craig-Lee are the owners of the superyacht.

They sued the producers for over $9 million in damages made to their yacht. They claim the damage is with Mountain View Productions, LLC, which produces Below Deck Down Under . The dispute took place in front of a judge in an Australian federal court. The court made the filings public.

The estimate could include the repainting of the exterior. It makes sense since Captain Glenn Shephard crashed the Parsifal III in Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht . He ended up with a $20,000 bill and a bruised ego. It’s possible that the My Keri Lee III ended up in a worse wreck.

Did Captain Jason Chambers crash the superyacht?

The Below Deck Down Under star is no stranger to boat crashes. Jason was the captain of the 45.6-meter superyacht Moatize when it crashed into a Queensland marina in 2019. He made international headlines when it crashed into an outdoor dining area. Some of the guests scrambled for their life.

Jason spoke to an Australian news outlet to reveal what happened. It’s unclear if Jason was responsible when the My Keri Lee III sustained damage in the lawsuit. The Below Deck Down Under trailer didn’t hint about a potential crash in the preview trailer. What are your thoughts on this lawsuit? Sound off below in the comment section.

New episodes of Below Deck Down Unde r drop on Thursdays on Peacock.

What Happened To Culver Bradbury After Below Deck Down Under Season 2?

  • Culver became a fan-favorite in Below Deck Down Under season 1 but received mixed reviews in season 2.
  • Culver released an e-book about fitness tips and meal recipes post-season 2 of Below Deck Down Under.
  • Culver remains unsure about returning to Below Deck Down Under but maintains a close friendship with Chief Stew Aesha.

Culver Bradbury from Below Deck Down Under has been busy working since the show. The series became the third Below Deck spin-off after it premiered on Peacock in 2022. Jason Chambers and Aesha Scott led the show to success with their unique bond as captain and Chief Stew. Below Deck Down Under season 2 introduced a new slate of crew members, though Culver had appeared in the series one season prior as one of Captain Jason’s deckhands. Culver was a fan-favorite yachtie on Below Deck Down Under season 1, while he received mixed reviews in season 2.

He seemed to slack off as a deckhand in his second stint with the franchise. Some fans argued that Culver was the worst Below Deck deckhand in the show’s history. He lacked respect towards Captain Jason and Bosun João Franco. Culver failed to understand the hierarchy of yachting and was impolite towards his superiors. Aside from his poor performance during Below Deck Down Under season 2, Culver was a notorious flirt. He formed several boatmances during his stints on the show and didn’t mind breaking hearts along the way.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Culver Wrote An E-Book

The book is about how he stays fit on yachts.

After Below Deck Down Under season 2, the deckhand released an e-book. Culver shared the news on his Instagram page, revealing that Fit For Duty: How I Stay In Shape On Land And At Sea would blend his expertise in fitness training with his career as a yachtie . Throughout the e-book, he gives fitness tips, meal recipes, and a six-week strength training program guide. Culver warned his followers that his e-book wasn’t a “ boring text book ” but a “ passion project ” that he was excited to share with his supporters.

Health and fitness will always be a passion of mine, and nothing gets me more EXCITED than helping others grow stronger both physically and mentally.

Culver Recently Caught Up With A Former Below Deck Down Under Costar

Culver is good friends with chief stew aesha.

Culver has stayed close with one of his Below Deck Down Under co-stars, Chief Stew Aesha. He shared a selfie with the beloved Below Deck yachtie on Instagram while relaxing on the beach together. “ All I need is the beach, a cool breeze, and a catch up with @aesha_jean n I’ll be fine ,” he captioned the post. Together, Culver and Aesha were two fan-favorite crew members from Below Deck Down Under season 1. While he unfortunately had a fall from grace with fans, the Chief Stew remains a fixture of the franchise.

Notably, Aesha has returned to Below Deck Mediterranean to serve as Captain Sandy Yawn’s Chief Stew for season 9. Her casting on the Mediterranean-based spin-off hinted that she won’t be returning for Below Deck Down Under season 3, though nothing has been confirmed. Aesha belongs on Below Deck Down Under with Culver, but it’s unclear if they’ll be returning for another charter season.

Culver's Journey On Below Deck Down Under

Culver changed after below deck down under season 1.

Culver was quite the character on Below Deck Down Under seasons 1 and 2. After his first season, he was beloved by the audience, though he still had some problematic moments. Captain Jason caught him drinking with charter guests during Below Deck Down Under season 1. His actions were incredibly unsafe, but he was asked back for season 2. Culver lost his fan-favorite status after his attitude shifted during his second season. His perspective changed from season 1 to 2, and he felt a sense of entitlement about appearing on the show before.

Culver came off as a lazy deckhand, and his lack of drive upset Captain Jason and João. When João talked to him about his behavior, Culver agreed to change but made rude comments about the Bosun behind his back. Culver prioritized his diet over his performance as a deckhand throughout the charter season. He a lot of spent time in the galley, preparing his shakes and eating. His interest in food came through his short-lived boatmance with Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph. They shared a kiss, but he disregarded her when Stew Jamiee Neale joined the crew.

Will Culver Ever Return To Below Deck Down Under?

It's a possibility.

It’s unclear if Culver will return to Below Deck Down Under . After season 1 of the spin-off, he was loved by the Below Deck audience. However, his persona shifted by season 2, and he was criticized for his laziness as a deckhand . Culver hasn’t said he wouldn’t want to return to the franchise. He seems to share a close relationship with Aesha, who could potentially return for Below Deck Down Under season 3. Nonetheless, his fate with the Below Deck franchise is up in the air for now.

Culver has released his e-book since Below Deck Down Under season 3. He’s started exploring the opportunities that come with appearing on a reality TV show. It’s uncertain if he'll return for another season of Below Deck , but time will tell his future with the show.

Below Deck Down Under is now streaming on Peacock.

A brief history of new zealanders featuring on below deck.

  • Share Story

Alex Casey and Tara Ward look back at the best and brightest New Zealanders to appear in the greatest reality franchise of all time.

It’s the hugely addictive reality show with a little bit of everything . “It’s got the high octane Hell’s Kitchen action in the chef’s galley, the nouveau riche aesthetics and drama of Real Housewives, the outdoor elements of Man vs Wild, the workplace drama and power dynamics of Undercover Boss and The Apprentice, the “coupling up” of Love Island and sometimes even the singing and dancing of X Factor,” we wrote of Below Deck  back in 2022.

Following all the behind-the-scenes action on a luxury super yacht packed with cashed-up and demanding charter guests, Below Deck always remains firmly on the side of the hardworking, tireless crew. Living and working together in the most testing of situations, including guests demanding to be painted head to toe in chocolate , or Roy Orbison’s son pissing all over the floor , it is the rock solid crew of Below Deck who truly keep the show afloat.

yachting down under

And within those crews, there are a surprising number of New Zealanders who have popped up in various franchises over the years. Part of it, leading local Below Deck expert Dominic Corry muses, is due to our aquatic inclinations. “We are a boating nation and lots of young New Zealanders work on the superyachts,” he says. “We’re all up in that field already, so it makes sense.” But even more powerful than our penchant for salty sea air is our calm and down to earth nature.

“We are pretty grounded, chilled-out people, and that often hilariously conflicts with the bullshit-forward style of most of the other people on these shows,” explains Corry. “Where the other cast members are always escalating the conflict, Kiwis, for the most part, try to de-escalate any drama.” With a familiar face returning to Below Deck: Mediterranean on Bravo this week, we look back at the New Zealanders who have hauled ass, and anchor, over the years.

Aesha Sco tt (Below Deck: Mediterranean, Below Deck Down Under)

yachting down under

Not only is Aesha Scott one of Below Deck’s biggest stars, but she’s also arguably the most successful New Zealander in any reality television show ever. Scott first rose to fame as a stew on Below Deck: Mediterranean, and quickly became a fan favourite for her huge energy, “amaaaaaaaaazing” vocabulary and enthusiasm for touching her Captain’s eyeballs every morning . She’s also brilliant in a crisis , and never short of a filthy joke. Scott went on to appear in other reality shows like Winter House and I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here Australia, but this month, she’s returning to her spiritual reality home as chief stew in Below Deck Med season nine. Is she Below Deck’s greatest all rounder? Like they say on the high seas: yes.

K atie Flood (Below Deck: Mediterranean)

Katie Flood

Whangārei-born Katie Flood sailed into Below Deck: Med as chief stew in season six, but she took some persuading to join the reality show. Flood told The Spinoff in 2021 that she’d turned the reality juggernaut down several times, thinking it was “a bit rough around the edges”. Once she joined the crew, Flood quickly discovered that serving rich guests and making a TV show was actually one of the “best things” she has ever done – and also one of the hardest. “The job alone is already such an intense environment,” Flood revealed. “Then you add 50 other people running around the boat, camera crew, audio mixers, lighting, producers. It’s chaotic.”

Colin MacRae (Below Deck: Sailing Yacht)

yachting down under

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht is viewed by many aficionados as the best iteration of the series, and MacRae was the chief engineer on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 and 3. He quickly became known for his relaxed vibe, strong work ethic and calmness under pressure, but it was the love triangle between McCrae, chief stew Daisy and lothario bosun Gary that dominated storylines in season three. When not fixing exploding motors and getting called the wrong name in bed , McCrae can be found sailing his salvaged catamaran around the world .

Kevin Dobson (Below Deck)

yachting down under

One of the more controversial representatives from our country, Chef Kevin became known for his explosive anger, kicking sand at a crew member , and forgetting to fix a plate for Captain Lee (big, big mistake) on Below Deck S7. He also famously dedicated way too much time to sculpting this deeply detailed penis cake for a bachelorette party on board, but even that show of craftmanship wasn’t enough to win over Below Deck fans. Audiences on Reddit have referred to him as “a petulant four-year-old trapped in the body of a grown man”, a “crotchety asshole” and a “top tier villain”. His website now seems to be a graveyard . God defend out free-eee land.

Ross Inia (Below Deck)

yachting down under

Lead deckhand comes with a lot of responsibility, and nobody knows that better than Rotorua-born Ross Inia from Below Deck S6. A former professional rugby player, he found yachting after a serious injury left him unable to play. He initially turned down the offer of appearing on Below Deck, but agreed to join the cast in its sixth season to be a role model to Māori teenagers. “Growing up as a Māori boy in Rotorua, I was hoping to inspire, to let others know there are opportunities out there in the world,” he told the Herald. Known for cultivating interesting nicknames such as “ octo-snake ” and telling his crew members to “ fix that attitude or ship out ”, Inia brought a calm and sometimes cheeky presence to the series.

Luka brunton (below deck down under, below deck mediterranean).

Raglan-born Luka first popped up as lead deckhand in the first season of Below Deck Down Under, and was later promoted to bosun by Captain Sandy in Below Deck Mediterranean S8. “Oh I think that’s fantaaaaaasstic,” Aesha Scott gushed of her former colleague on Late Night With Andy Cohen, “I adoooore Luka.” Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing: Captain Sandy let the cat out of the bag in revealing that he had a girlfriend, right in front of his crew crush Jessika . Troubled waters indeed.

Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9 is available now on Hayu and airing on Bravo from June 20.
