There’s a $30 Million Dollar Superyacht ‘Toy Box’ Visiting Portland, Maine

Over the past several years, Portland, Maine , has become no stranger to visits from superyachts. Some of the most impressive private vessels in the world have come to the waters of Casco Bay, sometimes for a short visit and sometimes for a longer stay.

Nowadays, it takes more than a monster cruise ship or a massive superyacht to perk up residents of Portland. Which is why another unique ship has garnered some attention over the last couple days. It's a superyacht but it's different than many of the others that have visited in the past.

The Hodor is Visiting Portland, Maine

The Hodor is a superyacht shadow vessel, a garage of sorts. That's a nice way of saying that the billionaire that owns it, doesn't spend any significant time on it. According to SuperYachtFan , the Hodor was designed and built to be the ultimate "toy box" for someone with incredible wealth.

The Hodor has its own dedicated crew and several rather incredible features. But what is most noticeable immediately is all the expensive gadgets. Then most obvious of which is the certified helipad and helicopter on the yacht's top deck.

What Hodor Has Inside is Simply Incredible

When people refer to Hodor as a "toy box", they're not just making a joke. According to BOAT International , the superyacht houses some world-class toys inside. The Hodor features a submarine garage fitted perfectly for a real-life submarine for exploration use.

There's also nearly a dozen jet skis, several ATVs, and of course, another boat. Yes, a wildly expensive speedboat housed inside another boat. The inside of the Hodor almost looks as through it's owned by Bruce Wayne, ready to transform into Batman at a moments notice.

The Hodor is also fitted to be a rescue boat of sorts. The superyacht has a decompression chamber as well as a full triage station. It also had a dedicated fuel area in the event that a refill is needed.

Who Owns Hodor?

While superyacht owners typically try to keep their boat ownership secret, Hodor is unquestionably owned by Lorenzo Fertitta. He's the former CEO of the UFC and a well-established billionaire.

Hodor is meant simply as a support vessel for the Lonian , a $160 million dollar powerhouse. While Hodor is fit for all the toys, the Lonian is a nearly 300 foot superyacht designed purely for comfort and luxury.

The ships have led to a number of calls to the Harbor Patrol from Santa Barbara residents, some of whom wondered if the Hodor ’s helipad indicated a military ship.

Superyacht with 66-metre support yacht spotted off Victoria

A pair of multimillion-dollar yachts sailed past Victoria on Monday, both owned by billionaire brothers who made the bulk of their fortunes as owners of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

The 87-metre yacht Lonian was trailed by its 66-metre support yacht Hodor, described by Boat International magazine as "the world's largest floating toy box."

While the Lonian can accommodate 12 guests, 27 crew and a helicopter of its own, the catamaran-style support ship acts as a kind of floating garage, carrying speedboats, jet skis, motorcycles and ATVs.

"The idea was to get all the clutter off the mothership and on board a dedicated vessel," the Hodor's first officer told the magazine last year.

"There was no need to restrict the quantity of toys we put on board. The owner just let us go ahead and fill it with cool stuff."

The Hodor's designer, Incat Crowther, says the support ship "accommodates an astounding number of toys, facilities and personnel," which includes a submarine garage and a scuba-diving platform complete with onboard air compressors and "a hospital with decompression chamber."

According to financial transparency website OpenCorporates , the vessels are owned by a pair of holding companies controlled by Fertitta Enterprises, the family company of Lorenzo Fertitta and brother Frank Fertitta III.

According to Forbes magazine, the casino-magnate brothers bought the UFC for US$2 million in 2001 and sold it in 2016 for US$4 billion, while retaining stakes in the company which sold in 2017 at a US$5-billion valuation.

Vessel-tracking website marinetraffic.com indicates the yachts were en route to Vancouver from Seattle.

ShadowCAT unveil first single-hulled support yacht concept

The 69m shadowolf concept will make its debut at monaco yacht show….

ShadowCAT has announced that it has expanded its portfolio to include a fully bespoke monohull shadow vessel. The new concept, ShadoWOLF, is ShadowCAT's first single-hulled support yacht. The vessel's new hybrid hull design focuses on passenger comfort and accommodation. 

ShadowCAT's previously delivered vessels include the award-winning Hodor (owned by Lorenzo Fertitta, former CEO of the UFC) and Wayfinder (owned by Bill Gates), as well as the latest vessel Nebula. This latest concept ShadoWolf will debut at the Monaco Yacht Show later this month. 

Designed by ShadowCAT partners Incat Crowther and YCTS, Ltd., the 69.2m ShadoWOLF offers an 11.5m beam and 3.25m draft and will be built upon Incat Crowther’s award-winning aluminium hull design.

Other ShadoWOLF features include a fully certified helipad and hangar, with accommodation and storage over three decks. The support vessel has an impressive carrying capacity, including space for a submarine, three 11m tenders, two 8m tenders, six jet-skis, two 4WDs and two quad bikes. In addition to a 14 crew-member and nine service-personnel capacity, it has accommodation for eight guests or extra resting space for the crew from the main yacht. The total complement is 31.

“ShadoWOLF stands out in large part due to its hull being designed specifically for yacht-level comfort whilst offering exceptional efficiency. It also allows owners to commission a fully bespoke support yacht within a very competitive price range and delivery window,” said Incat Crowther’s Dan Mace, technical manager. “Incat Crowther is well-known for producing award-winning vessels on both catamaran and monohull platforms, and we look forward to this ‘industry-first’ concept coming to life.”

“The addition of a monohull concept to our portfolio is a natural next step for ShadowCAT, and firmly establishes us as the No. 1 support yacht developer in the industry. This latest innovative concept delivers extreme comfort at sea, without the need to compromise on performance, speed or customization options,” said Robert Smith, SHADOWCAT founder and YCTS director. “Because developing shadow yachts is our sole focus, we can deliver a higher level of expertise and vessel customization across multiple platforms, ensuring our client's operational needs are surpassed.”

The vessel is powered by three MTU 16V4000 M73L IMO3 diesel engines and can reach a top speed of 21 knots. In a unique design for modern support vessels, this model will meet or exceed IMO Tier III emissions guidelines and has innovative green technology to reduce its impact on the environment by providing a zero-discharge operational capability.  

An onboard treatment plant cleans all wastewater discharged to a drinkable quality, wet and dry waste is also fully treated onboard to allow the vessel to operate with a zero-discharge policy, to meet a “leave no trace” philosophy. High levels of onboard comfort are aided by a pair of Naiad Dynamics AtRest stabilizers.

VIVA: The $250 Million Superyacht Of UFC Owner Frank Fertitta III

From his current position as CEO of Station Casinos to how he – alongside brother Lorenzo and childhood friend Dana White – transformed the UFC into a multi-billion-dollar promotion , there’s virtually endless information about how Frank Fertitta III made his fortune. How he chooses to spend said fortune, however, is a little more mysterious (at least for the fun stuff). One such indulgence we know the elder Fertitta brother has treated himself to is the ultra-luxurious Feadship-built superyacht known as Viva, which comes with an eye-watering price tag of US$175 million / AU$252 million.

Conceptualised by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture in collaboration with De Voogt Naval Architects, while also showcasing interiors accomplished by Peter Marino, Viva was only completed in the Netherlands last year and delivered shortly thereafter.

Back to the matter of Viva, it boasts an overall length of 308 feet / 94 metres with a 13.6-metre beam and gross tonnage of 2,999 – making it the 85th largest superyacht in the entire world; seventh largest ever constructed by Feadship – and can comfortably accommodate 14 guests across seven cabins alongside a capable crew of 18.

Viva has been called the “most environmentally-friendly luxury vessel of its kind” due to it featuring a hybrid propulsion system that allows the boat to cruise using diesel-electric power, as well as a waste treatment plant and heat recovering systems.

The yacht has seven bedrooms and over seven bathrooms, with over 280 feet of space inside. Within the seven cabins on board, there is a beautiful master suite, as well as two luxurious VIP suites. Furthermore, there is also a very large pool, a jacuzzi, and enough room for a helicopter landing. This superyacht took about three years to complete. The yacht also has a smaller, 216-foot companion boat called Hodor. Hodor is used mostly to store water toys and vehicles such as ATVs and motorcycles. Hay multimillonarios que tienen un superyate. Después hay multimillonarios que tienen un buque de apoyo para su superyate. Y por último está el multimillonario americano Lorenzo Fertitta, friki de Juego de Tronos que ha bautizado su buque de apoyo a superyates como Hodor .

Construido en 2019 por Astilleros Armón en Burela siguiendo el diseño de la firma australiana Incat Crowther , el Hodor es un catamarán de aluminio que dará soporte al superyate Lonian , aumentando las posibilidades de diversión de sus pasajeros, transportando diferentes embarcaciones (desde un submarino a motos de agua), contando con una cámara de descompresión para submarinistas o un helipuerto.

Aunque aparecieron durante la década de los noventa, no ha sido hasta los últimos años que el uso de los buques de apoyo a superyates (shadow yachts o support yachts en inglés) se ha popularizado. Más de una veintena de barcos sirven de apoyo a los superyates de sus dueños, transportando embarcaciones de apoyo, motos de agua, vehículos submarino o terrestres, o cualquier otro juguete para el disfrute de los dueños del yate y sus invitados. Además, en su interior transportan combustible, alimentos o repuestos para el yate principal. Aunque la mayoría de buques de apoyo a superyates no están diseñados para transportar invitados, algunos cuentan con camarotes para aumentar el número de invitados.

Las razones para su uso son variadas: aumentar el tamaño del buque nodriza (el yate principal) para alojar todos esos juguetes y provisiones a bordo limitaría su acceso a ciertos puertos, reduciendo los lugares a los que puedes dirigirte; a veces, el coste de este aumento en tamaño es mayor que el coste de una nueva embarcación de apoyo; además, aumentar la capacidad de provisiones transportadas permite desplazarse a lugares más lejanos; y también puede ser que el propietario simplemente no quiera encontrarse a bordo con los juguetes y otros equipos hasta que los necesite.

El Hodor es el primer shadow yacht que se construye en España, y el primero en el mundo con casco de catamarán. Los Astilleros Armón, ubicados en Burela (Galicia), entregaron en marzo de este año el buque tras 16 meses de construcción, basada en un diseño de los australianos Incat Crowther. Su labor será dar apoyo al superyate de 87 metros de eslora Lonian, construido por los holandeses Feadship en 2018. Los ingenieros de Incat Crowther trabajaron mano a mano con Lorenzo Fertitta, propietario del Lonian y el Hodor, para darle la solución lo mejor adaptada a sus necesidades.

¿Y quién es Lorenzo Fertitta? Según el portal Superyacht Fan Lorenzo es el dueño del fondo de capital Fertitta Capital, y su fortuna está valorada en unos 2.000 millones de euros. Lorenzo y su hermano Frank heredaron de su padre un casino de 5.000 metros cuadrados en Las Vegas, y con su venta financiaron la compra de los derechos del campeonato de artes marciales mixtas Ultimate Fighting Championship en 2001 por unos dos millones de dólares. Su venta en 2016, quince años después, les reportó 2.000 millones de euros a cada hermano.

El Hodor es un catamarán de 66 metros de eslora por 14 metros de manga, construido en aluminio y dividido verticalmente en tres cubiertas. Capaz de alcanzar 22,5 nudos de velocidad máxima, el Hodor incluye un helipuerto, un minisubmarino, una cámara hiperbárica de descompresión para submarinistas, una lancha auxiliar de 17 metros de eslora y diversas embarcaciones pequeñas, como lanchas fuera borda y motos de agua. Su diseño se basa en el modelo 70m Fast Crew Boat de Incat Crowther, provado ampliamente en el mundo offshore.

En su interior cuenta con zonas de almacenamiento para comida fresca y refrigerada, así como repuestos para el buque nodriza y camarotes para alojar a sus 20 tripulantes. Sus interiores, diseñados y fabricados por la empresa vasca Oliver Design cuentan con dos camarotes para los oficiales más otros siete dobles, así como cocina, comedor y salón, lavandería, espacios médicos y talleres.

Dos motores MTU que suman 5.660 kW le permiten alcanzar una velocidad máxima de 22,5 nudos. A velocidad de crucero de 13,2 nudos, su autonomía llega a las 5.500 millas náuticas. Un sistema de tratamiento de los gases de exhaustación conforme con IMO Tier 3 y EPA Tier 4 reduce las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero del buque.

Tras haber abandonado España este verano con destino a los EE.UU. en donde se encontró con su buque nodriza, el Hodor se encuentra en este momento navegando hacia Atenas, al igual que el Lonian, mientras cumple su función en la sombra.

Conor McGregor has compared his yacht to former UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta as he continues to holiday abroad.

The Dubliner was home for a brief stint last week before jetting off again to soak in the sun. And the Dubliner shared a video aboard a yacht as he compared it to former UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta's boats.

McGregor can be seen filming a bench with weights and says: "Just here on the top board of my triple deck getting a bit of work in and look who I see. Over here that's Lorenzo Fertitta's yacht and there's his shadow yacht to carry all the toys. The gang is in town, Just getting a bit of work in lads I'll be over shortly."

Fertitta is worth a staggering €2.5bn and sold his shares in the UFC back in 2016 and stepped down as CEO of the company.

McGregor himself is well on his way to similar wealth and is worth around €500m.

It has only been a few months since Frank Fertitta, who also owns the UFC, received delivery of the magnificent yacht "Viva" in June. "Viva" is a 94-meter-long luxury yacht built by Feadship at their shipyard in Kaag, Netherlands.

Viva was recently completed and delivered in the Netherlands. She was designed by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture in collaboration with De Voogt Naval Architects, while Peter Marino designed her interiors. Let’s take a look inside the $250 million superyacht of UFC owner Frank Fertitta III.

There is an almost endless amount of evidence regarding how Frank Fertitta III acquired his wealth, ranging from his current position as CEO of Station Casinos to how he, along with his brother Lorenzo and childhood friend Dana White, turned the Ultimate Fighting Championship into a multi-billion dollar business.

However, the manner in which he chooses to spend such wealth is somewhat less evident (at least for the fun stuff). The ultra-luxurious superyacht Viva, which was built by Feadship and has a jaw-dropping price tag of $250 million, is an example of such a luxury acquisition. The eldest Fertitta sibling stated that he made this transaction for himself.

It should be noted that Feadship appears to be the Fertitta family's preferred shipbuilder. Lorenzo Fertitta is the owner of the 285-foot-long (87-meter-long), Feadship-built Lonian , which costs $160 million. Tilman Fertitta, the cousin of the Fertitta brothers, is the happy owner of a more modest Westport Yachts-built vessel in Boardwalk. This vessel achieves a maximum length of 163 feet or 50 meters and costs $27 million, which is significantly more reasonable than the preceding vessel.

Peter Marino designed the interior, and Azure Yacht Design designed the exterior. At the stern of the upper deck are a gym, a beach club, a theater, a beauty salon, underwater lighting, an elevator, and a helipad. In addition, the ship has a cinema and a beauty salon. The hull of Viva is composed of steel, while the superstructure and decks are made of teak and aluminum, respectively. It has two diesel-electric MTU engines , each with 16 cylinders, 3,916 horsepower, and 2,050 revolutions per minute. It can achieve its top speed of 20 knots while maintaining a cruising speed of approximately 12 knots.

Its freshwater tanks have a capacity of around 71,000 liters, while its fuel tanks can hold approximately 280,000 liters of gasoline. The owner wanted their new mega yacht, which is 94 meters long and built by Feadship like their prior mega yacht, which was 32 meters shorter, to have a smaller environmental impact than their previous mega yacht. In addition to adopting hybrid propulsion, the owner requested that the exterior and interior design of the superyacht adhere to a minimalist aesthetic because they belong to the "less is more" philosophical school.

Consequently, one can witness clean lines and an abundance of glass. The interior design of the superyacht is reminiscent of a beach cottage. In order to reduce fuel consumption, the hull has been made more aerodynamic. The motor yacht Viva measures 94 meters in length. The superyacht has a beam of 13.6 meters and can carry 2,999 gross tons of cargo. On board the superyacht Viva, there is space for a maximum of 14 passengers.

The Viva is the seventh-largest yacht manufactured by Feadship. In April 2021, Viva departed the Dutch shipyard and steered with extreme caution through the Dutch canals, coming dangerously close to colliding with canal-side structures. Feadship, which has its headquarters in the Netherlands and a history dating back to 1849, is frequently recognized as the most successful company in the sector of manufacturing pure custom million-dollar superyachts .

Each vessel in the Feadship fleet sets a new standard for craftsmanship, design, engineering, and construction. This is because each new Feadship indicates an improvement over their prior efforts. This is what the corporation refers to as its unrelenting pursuit of excellence. In every manner, the brand-new superyacht Viva exhibits this degree of excellence.
