Most Sardinia yacht charters begin in the popular superyacht marina of Porto Cervo in the north west of the island or nearby Porto Rotondo, a slightly quieter marina compared to its illustrious neighbor. After a short stay here, popular charter itineraries tend to make a beeline north to the beautiful Maddalena Islands where the yacht can spend a day or two in a pretty sheltered anchorage while you and your guests take to the Carribean-blue waters for a spot of diving and snorkeling.

From here, the world’s your oyster. Sardinia has numerous must-see destinations and you will be hard-pushed to fit them all in. From the lush archipelagos of the north to the wild, untamed beaches found in the south west of the island, and from the glamorous superyacht havens on the north east coast where you can indulge your every whim to the rich historical treasures found in the south, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

Another popular option is to set off from the Amalfi Coast on Italy’s mainland or Corsica in the north and then cruise down through the Bonifacio Strait. It’s simple enough to begin your superyacht vacation in a neighboring country before heading to Sardinia. For more advice please speak to your yacht charter broker .

Sample itineraries

Most yacht charters tend to finish in Porto Cervo or Porto Rotondo. As well as the vibrant superyacht lifestyle, these places also offer their own bevy of beautiful beaches and scenic beauty, making these the perfect spots to end your memorable Sardina luxury yacht charter. Alternatively, for longer charters you can finish up in one of the neighboring destinations mentioned above. Speak with your yacht charter broker who can advise you further.

  • Cala Luna - A beautiful curve of sand with magical caves and astonishing clear blue waters abound in this paradisiacal setting. • Passagio della Pelosa - Often likened to a lagoon, this beautiful sheltered cove is considered by some as one of the best anchorages in the Mediterranean, where charterers will be dazzled by the Caribbean-blue waters reflecting the sandy seabed below. This anchorage is an ideal jumping off point to the protected marine reserve of Stintino, with convenient restaurants and shops located nearby in the village and marina.
  • Porto Liscia - A pretty peninsula of golden sand beach with cobalt-blue waters and scenic views. The anchorage is well protected and is a popular hangout for superyachts, which means it can get busy.

With its A-lister appeal, rich cultural history and bevy of world-class beaches, Sardinia is one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean. Therefore, we advise you to book your yacht charter well in advance of your trip to secure your perfect yacht on your preferred dates. If you leave it too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced and you may not be able to explore the destinations you have your heart set on. Plus, finding dates when everyone in your charter party is available can be tricky; the longer you leave it, the more challenging it will be.

High cliffs of Mediterranean coast,

Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to tailor an itinerary to suit you, and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in marinas. We recommend booking up to 3 months in advance to give your broker the optimum time to organize everything down to the last detail.

Another option is to begin your yacht charter on Italy's west coast only a short hop across the Tyrrhenian Sea. Alternatively, charters can begin on the spellbindingly rugged island of Croatia in the north, separated only by a narrow strait famed for its sailing.

Once you have decided on your perfect yacht, your yacht broker will then draw up the necessary contract; a legally binding agreement between you and the owner of the yacht. At this point, based on the type of contract, you will be required to pay 50% of the cost of the yacht up front, with an additional 25-30% of this base rate to cover additional expenses you and your guests are expected to incur whilst on charter.

Sardinia luxury yacht charter

Sardinia’s scalloped bays, shimmering sands and dramatic coastline have long been the playground of screen starlets, royalty, first families and the yachting elite. With some of the most exclusive harbours, hotels and restaurants in the western Mediterranean, a luxury yacht charter around the Italian island of Sardinia seamlessly combines sun-soaked glamour with timeless elegance and natural beauty. A Tyrrhenian Sea yacht charter around this island can happily balance partying in hotspots like Porto Cervo on the Costa Smeralda with an escape to secluded islands and jaw-dropping marine parks in places such as the Maddalena archipelago.

Sardinia yacht season and weather

Sardinia is hot and dry from May to October with the island enjoying an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. Peak charter months are July and August, though June is also an excellent time to charter. August is particularly busy as most Italians take their holidays during this month.

Most rain falls between October and February, giving much of Sardinia a lush and verdant character. Visitors may well experience balmy summer days in March and April, though evenings will be cool during this time of year. The prevailing wind is north westerly, which can be particularly significant on the Strait of Bonifacio at the north of the island.

Sardinia superyacht charter itineraries

Historic Cagliari crowns Sardinia’s southern edge, and a litter of pretty coves and tiny villages then await. With vineyards inland and towns steeped in history, it is a region rich in cultural and gastronomic offerings. Yachts up to 55 metres LOA can drop anchor at Marina di Cagliari.

To the north, the superyacht haven of Porto Cervo is the central hub for the yachting elite that descend on Sardinia’s glittering Costa Smeralda each summer. Home to some of Europe’s most expensive residences and exclusive resorts, including the iconic Cala di Volpe hotel, Porto Cervo pulsates during the summer season and its bars and restaurants promise a great night ashore.

The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is based in Porto Cervo and organises a packed yacht racing season throughout the summer. Highlights of the Mediterranean cruising calendar in Sardinia include the Giorgio Armani Superyacht Regatta, the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, the Maxi Rolex Cup and Rolex Swan Cup – all lively events for sailing enthusiasts in Porto Cervo to get involved with. Yachts up to 120 metres can berth at the IGY marina in Port Cervo.

South of Porto Cervo, the resort village of Porto Rotondo’s turquoise waters, pristine beaches and charming piazzas will prove irresistible, and the port here has 25 berths for megayachts. Cruise 20 nautical miles and dock at Marina di Olbia (for yachts up to 80 metres) to discover the city’s café-lined squares. Further south explore the caves near Cala Luna, where the peaks of Gennargentu National Park provide a dramatic backdrop and the snorkelling is excellent. Nearby Cala Goloritzé is another natural wonder.

From the northern coast of the main island cruise about 10 nautical miles offshore toward the spectacular archipelago of La Maddalena. While away long, languid sunny days around Caprera, Spargi, Santo Stefano, Santa Maria, Budelli and Razzoli, and discover some of Sardinia’s best beaches and the island’s breathtaking lagoons. On Isola Maddalena, Cala Gavetta marina can host yachts up to 60 metres LOA, as can the marina of the Hotel Excelsior. On Capera, Porto Palma can accommodate yachts up to 40 metres.

Some luxury yacht charters will combine the magic of Sardinia with French-held Corsica – the islands lie in a north to south run, with Corsica sitting off Sardinia’s northerly tip.

On Corsica , visit the historic capital of Porto-Vecchio, discover the UNESCO wonders of the Lavezzi islands and marvel at the houses perched atop the windswept bluffs in Bonifacio before cruising south to the majestic La Maddelena archipelago.

Motor yacht charter vs sailing yacht charters in Sardinia

Choosing between a crewed motor yacht and a sailing yacht for your Sardinia adventure depends on your preferences, budget, and the experience you’re seeking.

Motor yachts offer several advantages that appeal to many travellers. They provide greater speed and agility, allowing you to cover more distance along Sardinia’s coastline in less time. With their luxurious amenities, spacious interiors, and onboard chefs, motor yachts offer unparalleled comfort and indulgence. Their stability in choppy waters and ease of handling make them suitable for guests who prioritize a smooth sailing experience or have limited sailing experience.

On the other hand, sailing yachts offer a more authentic and serene sailing experience. With their reliance on wind power rather than engines, sailing yachts provide a quieter and more intimate atmosphere, perfect for relaxation and enjoying the natural beauty of Sardinia’s coastline. They evoke a sense of nostalgia and romance with their classic designs and billowing sails, appealing to travelers seeking an authentic maritime adventure. Additionally, eco-conscious travellers often prefer sailing vessels due to their lower environmental impact and reliance on renewable energy.

Ultimately, choosing a motor yacht or a sailing yacht for your Sardinia adventure depends on your preferences and desired level of comfort. Both options offer their own unique advantages and can provide an unforgettable journey along the breathtaking coastline of Sardinia.

Sardinia is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea, a part of the Mediterranean Sea, southwest of the Italian Peninsula and just south of the French island of Corsica. It is an autonomous region of Italy and boasts over 1,850 kilometers (1,150 miles) of coastline, featuring stunning beaches, crystal-clear waters, and dramatic cliffs. Sardinia is surrounded by smaller islands and archipelagos, such as the Maddalena Archipelago to the northeast, offering additional exploration and discovery opportunities on your own private yacht charter. These islands often have secluded beaches, hidden caves, and charming villages to explore.

Sardinia’s coastline boasts miles of superlative beaches and secret grottos only accessible by boat. Porto Cervo is at the region’s main center, home to Costa Smeralda. This area has become increasingly desirable for luxury yacht charters because of its remote location and exclusive atmosphere. South of Porto Cervo, you will find forested mountains, medieval villages, and stunning seas. Another recommended site is La Maddalena National Park, a marine reserve that offers opportunities for secluded anchorages and overnight stays. Spotted with seven main islands and many islets, La Maddalena offers crystal-clear waters for an afternoon snorkel and access to the beautiful pink sand beach named Pink of Budelli. Sardinia’s coastal cuisine differs from inland; the seafood base and pasta dishes pay homage to the sea and further contribute to the laidback yet luxurious atmosphere of the island.

The best time to hop on a yacht and explore Sardinia is usually in the summer, from June to September. During this time, the weather is warm and sunny, perfect for soaking up the sun and diving into the crystal-clear waters. Sardinia

Sardinia Yacht Charters

Explore the romantic Sardinia on your luxury yacht charter. A wild piece of Mediterranean history, Sardinia is steeped in a prehistoric past, home to more than four million sheep, and visited for its inherent culture, idyllic beaches, and eccentric local inhabitants.

Regarded for its unique landscape – like lush, alpine forests bordering stark-white beaches, and grandiose mountains towering over hidden bays – Sardinia is as beautiful as it is puzzling so there is no wonder why it is such a popular yacht charter destination.

With tradition gracing everything from the inhabitants’ customs to its architecture, Sardinia is scattered with more than 7000 Bronze Age towers, settlements, and tombs. It hosts a series of festivals, like the Barbagia’s carnival parade and S’Ardia horse race, two events believed to rid the area of winter demons and defy death, respectively. With an adventure waiting at every turn, Sardinia invites yacht charter guests to take an evening hike through its Tiscali’s nuraghic ruins, climb the limestone cliffs of Cala Luna, or dive to see Roman ruins submerged in the sea below – all promise a taste of true Sardinia.

Sardinia Yacht Charters – Things To Do & See

Sardinia yacht charters

Next time you’re craving an adventure, head to Sardinia and visit the spots below for a yacht charter adventure you won’t soon forget:

Cagliari The polar opposite of the country it calls home, Cagliari is a beautiful seaside city characterized by golden palaces, the rocky “Il Castelo” fortress, Roman ruins, and historic churches. Take in the colorful views from Il Castello, and down below, you’ll see Vespas zooming through neighborhoods, packed cafes, and locals wandering along the coastal city’s idyllic waterfront.

Porto Cervo A combination of Greek, African, Spanish, and Italian architecture, the wealthy streets of Porto Cervo paint a unique picture of the Mediterranean. The city’s plain, but pristine, facade is made more obvious by the fact that it boasts only a few inhabitants; but its coastal scenery offers a snapshot of natural beauty that only the Mediterranean could provide.

Stintino Once a forgotten fishing village, the resort-town of Stintino, today, caters to old-school fishermen and high-end yachters alike. While the majority of its inhabitants are descendants of the 45 families who established Stintino in the late 1800s, it is frequently filled with yacht charter guests who come to see its charming, pastel-colored neighborhoods.

Alghero Regarded as one of Sardinia’s most enchanting Medieval cities, Alghero has become one of the area’s most popular international yacht charter destinations. Just steps away from the idyllic Riviera del Corallo, Spanish-infused Alghero, which has street signs written in both Italian and Catalan, has a personality all of its own.

Carloforte A typical Mediterranean village, Carloforte includes serene palaces and government buildings, packed cafes, and an enchanting, palm-lined waterfront. A semicircle of cream-colored, majestic buildings climbs its sloped hillside, while quaint, cobblestone streets – filled with locals wandering to grab a sunset aperitif – wind through its central town.

Costa Verde Stretching from Capo Pecora to Torre Dei Corsari, Sardinia’s greatest stretch of untamed coast, Costa Verde, is named for the green “macchia,” or Mediterranean scrub, that drapes its mountainous terrain. Given its natural beauty, Costa Verde is perfect for a scenic drive, or a relaxing afternoon tanning on one of its spectacular beaches.

Neptune’s Grotto Located just a short drive from Alghero, Neptune’s Grotto is a beautiful stalactite cave that has been made famous by the movie, “Island of Mutations.” First discovered in the 18th century by local fishermen, this now-popular tourist attraction was named after the Roman god of the sea, Neptune.

yacht chartering sardinia

Yachting in Sardinia is aimed at tourists who want to live a sustainable travel experience, aware of preserving the terrestrial and marine environment. It is, in fact, the alternative to the overbuilding that increasingly covers our coasts, also allowing us to reach those hidden corners of the coast, not reachable by land, but of great charm, while at the same time preserving their value. In 2018, after twenty years of activity in the charter sector, having had the vision of what could have been the growth prospects of the Eco-sustainable Nautical Tourism sector, the company decided to change gear and starting from the choice of a certifying body expert in the tourist accommodation sector (and not nautical) such as CSQA, revolutionizing its processes in an integral way and completely redesigning the operational model of the activity. It is also the first Nautical Hotel accommodation facility in the world to also have ISO 9001 certification.

The company today offers its customers the opportunity to find the right offer for their holiday by directly visiting the Yachting in Sardinia website where 8 different offers are available every day, valid only for 24 hours, for a fleet of boats that are completely similar. and throughout to floating and completely eco-sustainable housing units, equipped with all comforts and divided into categories (exclusive, comfort and standard). The customer on board receives 24-hour assistance, also thanks to the SeaTutor monitoring system, and can count on a dedicated Service Operator, ready to respond to any needs of the guest crew, giving the customer the opportunity to experience the sea in total safety.

Group Y has been investing for years in the technical set-up of its boats: from the massive use of photovoltaics, to the elimination of endothermic generators, from the use of double alternators combined with automotive-derived battery packs, to the use of watermakers, from use of purifiers, up to the revolutionary "zero" impact underwater protective coating: the SeaProtector, which replaces traditional antifouling, not only improving the performance of the hull by reducing fuel consumption, but, being totally free of biocides toxic, avoid releasing any type of harmful substance into the water.

YACHT CHARTER SARDINIA

Experience sardinia.

Clear waters, breathtaking coves, luxury restaurants and nightlife, but also semi-deserted beaches, nights under the stars and unlimited exploration: this will be your yacht charter sailing holiday in Sardinia. This idyllic sailing destination is perfect for those who don’t want to miss out on one of the most popular spots in Italy and its incredible social life, but also want to fully enjoy one of the most natural and rugged islands in the Mediterranean. Only a yacht will let you discover the most authentic and naturalistic side of this region and there’s nothing quite like the feeling of freedom and adventure when the yacht carries you through the azure sea, where water and sky become one.

“Life in Sardinia is probably the best a man can wish: twenty-four-thousands kilometers of forests, countryside, shores immersed in a miraculous sea, this corresponds to what I would suggest God to give us as Paradise”.

Yacht Destination

Sardinia yacht charter, with sapphire lagoons and sunlit seas, glamorous marinas and achingly beautiful archipelagos, sardinia is pure yachting paradise, drenched in colour and light..

Mangusta yacht moored in open water Sardinia

Why Visit Sardinia on a Luxury Yacht Charter?

A Sardinia yacht charter is all bright sunshine and sparkling water, swimming off the yacht in the hot and heady days of a Mediterranean summer, and warm, decadent nights strolling along glamorous waterfronts with a gelato, the lights of the yachts reflecting across the water.

Each year, superyacht charters flock to the Costa Smeralda to enjoy the stunning beaches, dropping anchor in water so crystal clear that the seabed is visible far below. In the evenings, guests come ashore to some of the most exclusive ports on the planet, where Champagne flows like summer rain and the beautiful people dine and dance under starry skies.

Enchanting Space

Yet there’s so much more to a Sardinia yacht charter than breathtaking beaches and high glamour.

Sardinia is the Mediterranean’s second largest island, with a diverse landscape that includes towering sand dunes, deep green forests and rugged granite mountains. Offshore, WWII wrecks and Roman roads lie under the surface, and in Sardinia’s ancient heart, prehistoric ruins litter the landscape and villagers go about their business as they have for millennia, surrounded by rolling vineyards, grazing sheep, and sunny citrus groves.

DH Lawrence said of Sardinia ‘This earth doesn’t resemble to some other place. Sardinia is another thing: enchanting space around and distance to be traveled, nothing of ended, nothing definitive. It is as the same liberty.’

There is no better way to enjoy that freedom and explore Sardinia than aboard a Sardinia luxury yacht charter.

The port of Porto Cervo in Sardinia

Float through moonscape archipelagos & turquoise lagoons

The medieval haunt of smugglers and pirates, the arid islands off Sardinia rise out of startlingly blue water, giant boulders encircling lagoons and coves of exquisite beauty.

The  Maddalena Islands  are a dreamy archipelago of pink granite rock and turquoise water, with stunning beaches backed by emerald pines and walking paths. Highlights of the Maddalena islands are the superb lagoon of Porto della Madonna, the huge boulder formations of Rizzoli islands, and the famous pink sands of Spiaggia Rosa, the location for Antonioni’s film Il Deserto Rosso.

Despite their fierce, remote beauty, the Maddalena islands offer some fine restaurants and your Captain will be happy to advise you on where to go!

Beyond the Maddalenas are the uninhabited  Lavezzi Islands,  technically part of Corsica but easily included on a Sardinia yacht charter. The giant grey granite rocks of the Lavezzis frame beaches of blinding blue water, while yellow-horned poppy flowers clamber over this barren, bewitching landscape. The snorkelling and diving off the Lavezzi is exceptional, with colonies of giant grouper, schools of barracuda, and red gorgonian fans aplenty.

Sardinia has other beautiful, fascinating islands in the north, such as the mountainous island kingdom of  Tavolara  which has its own king (who doubles as a restaurant owner), and the tiny island of  Asinara , an abandoned high-security prison island that is now populated by a 250-strong herd of miniature albino donkeys. If you’re cruising the south, the pretty island of  Isola di San Pietro  enchants with its quiet cobbled streets, clifftop lighthouse, and Ligurian dialect.

View from above of Cala Volpe, with clear blue sea and hillside in background

Picnic and play on beaches straight out of a dream

The beaches of Sardinia are some of the best in the world, with glimmering blue-green waters and sugar white sands. Sardinia’s coastline is more than a thousand miles long, and the beaches are as diverse as the island, from the breathtaking cliff-lined coves of the  Costa Smeralda  in the north to the incredible desert landscapes of the  Torre dei Corsari  on the western coast, where shifting sand dunes up to 70m high tower above the sea. For gently rolling sand dunes covered in pretty wildflowers and sea grasses, cruise to  Capo Camino  or  Santa Lucia  on the east coast or  Chia  or  Teulada  in the south, while those looking for a laid-back beach club scene should head to  San Teodoro  just south of the Costa Smeralda, with its long sandy beaches and pink flamingo lagoons.

The majority of Sardinia yacht charters will spend most of their time on the dazzling  Costa Smeralda , where the undulating, honey-coloured cliffs break the coast up into secluded coves of magnificent beauty, with powder soft beaches sloping gently away into crystal clear seas. The Emerald Coast provides the perfect location for anchoring off and playing on watertoys, or going ashore for luxury beach picnics in the cool shade of the cliffs.  Liscia Ruja  and  Spiaggia del Principe  are favourite beaches of the superyacht set, while  Spiaggia Pevero  ( Spiaggia del Piccolo Pevero  and a larger sandy beach called  Spiaggia del Grande Pevero ),  Carpiccioli , and  Romazzino  are also standouts.

Live the high life in glamorous superyacht marinas

The towns of  Porto Cervo  and  Porto Rotondo  on the Costa Smeralda have an incredible energy in the summer months, with superyachts clustered in the marinas and an intoxicating atmosphere of celebrity parties and jet-set decadence.

Purpose-built by the Aga Khan in the 1960s, the ultra-exclusive village of  Porto Cervo  is all pastel stucco and archways overlooking the sea, with high-end hotels and fine restaurants lining the cobbled streets. Guests on a Sardinia yacht charter might shop at Hermes or Bottega Veneta, Louis Vuitton or Versace, or spend the morning playing a round of golf at the incredible  Pevero Golf Course , carved into the Costa Smeralda cliffs. Lunch might be at Sardinia’s most fashionable beach club,  Phi Beach,  where lush Bedouin tents and elegant dining tables sit in the garden above the lapping water, or perhaps back in town at the endlessly sophisticated  Costa Smeralda Yacht Club . The afternoon stretches out before you: ample time for watersports in Cala di Volpe bay, or swimming at one of the nearby beaches.

Two yachts alongside each other in Port Cervo

As sunset approaches, have drinks on the sundeck of your charter yacht or cocktails at  Orange Beach  as the DJ’s get the party started, before adjourning to dinner at one of the great restaurants of Porto Cervo:  Gianni Pedrinelli’s, Il Pescatore,  or  Restaurant Cala di Volpe  at the eponymous hotel. For a stunning view over the coast, you can dine one mile inland at the excellent  I Frati Rossi , where the menu includes amberjack tartare and fresh made pasta with saffron-scented lobster. Of course, you could just spend a leisurely day at the iconic  Billionaire Club , moving from the pool terrace, to  Crazy Fish  restaurant, and onto the VIP lounges and dance floors of the two prestigious clubs. For an elegant nightcap, the American cocktail bar  Il Portico  is a splendid choice, or for an atmospheric drink overlooking the marina, the  Aqua Lounge  (at the yacht club)   pool terrace is hard to beat, and only livens up as the evening rolls on.

Porto Rotondo  is another upscale town at the southern end of the Costa Smeralda, with a luxury marina, fine dining restaurants, designer boutiques, and a gorgeous piazza and church. Dine on a pool terrace under stone archways at  Stella di Gallura , or take a veranda table overlooking the water at  Lu Stazzu  to enjoy an authentic Sardinian feast of suckling pork, pasta, and fresh-caught seafood. Set on a circular bay and surrounded by stunning beaches and spa resorts, Porto Rotondo is a sparkling gem on the emerald coast.

Venture into the delicious, sweet-smelling heart of Sardinia

Moving away from the designed luxury towns of the Costa Smeralda, you find the beating heart of Sardinia. Behind the beaches, groves of eucalyptus and emerald pines give way to the thorny macchia scrub that releases its fragrance under the Mediterranean sun- wild pistachios and strawberries, myrtle, cypress and juniper, rosemary and lavender.

Forests of cork trees, oak and chestnut carpet the rolling hills, interspersed with olive and lemon groves and rocky fields where sheep and goats graze in an ancient landscape. Time has seemingly stood still in the medieval hamlets of rural Sardinia, with scenes straight out of a National Geographic photo shoot: elderly matriarchs dressed in black gossiping on doorsteps, Sunday streets filled with worshippers, and gnarled, weatherbeaten farmers in old garb leading short-legged donkeys along country lanes.

Wild Beauty

As you venture further away from the coast you come to the rugged granite mountains of Sardinia- low lying but fierce in their wild, pure beauty. Where Sardinia’s islands were the haven of smugglers and pirates, the mountain caves and canyons were the domain of the famous banditos. Up here, wild horses roam free, and eagles, vultures and falcons wheel above the eyries, giving the high country a haunting, almost eerie beauty. You might visit the staggering granite formations of the  Gallura  region, walk through the oleander-scented valleys of the jagged, lonely  Monte Sette Fratelli  in the southeast, or explore the stupendous gorges and peaks of the  Supramonte , with sheer cliffs that fall away into the deep, cool sea.

On a Sardinia yacht charter, take a day trip from the yacht to hike, quad-bike, or horse-ride through Sardinia’s stunning interior, uncovering the ancient Sard culture and cuisine as you go.

Savour the Sard cuisine

In Sardinia, local markets in sunny squares overflow with produce: local honey with hints of carob, deep green olive oil, fragrant myrtle liqueur, and the giant wheels of Pecorino cheese that Sardinian cuisine is famous for. On a Sardinia yacht charter, be sure to try the local specialties: podeccu, suckling pig; a handful of hot fried picarel fish; or bottarga, cured mullet roe grated over pasta and wild asparagus. Fregola are delicious balls of semolina dough, while for desert, seada fritters delight with their sweet cheese and lemon zest filling and finished off with a drizzle of honey. For wine enthusiasts, the vineyards of Sardinia produce spumante, red and white wines, including the popular Vermontino di Galllura and the delicious Cannonau red variety.

Explore fairy tombs and Roman amphitheatres

Sardinia is littered with remnants of the past, the most common the thousands of stone towers of the Nuraghic people, an ancient Sardinian culture who lived here thousands of years before the age of Christ. The early Sardinians lived in caves, and when they emerged to live in the fields and forests they continued to bury their dead and leave idols in sacred caves, carved out of the rock into fantastical fairy tombs, giants tombs, and witch houses. These fairy tombs can be seen near the coast at  Alghero  and in cliff faces in the mountains, while the best example of nuraghic ruins is the UNESCO-world heritage site at  Barumini,  north of Cagliari.

Waves of conquerors ruled Sardinia after the Nuraghic people, with Phoenicians, Carthaginians, and Romans leaving their mark on the island, with the ancient Punic and later Roman town of  Nora  an excellent example of amphitheatre, temple, and baths.

Stroll Ancient Cities and Pretty Fishing Villages

If you can drag yourself away from Sardinia’s beaches, the cities and towns have an enormous amount to offer visitors.

Beautifully restored  Alghero  on the north west coast is a highlight of any Sardinian yacht charter, with its Catalan architecture and historic centre, while the spectacular  Neptune’s Grotto  is found on a cliff-face nearby, accessible only by yacht or by a dizzyingly steep stairway cut into the rock. Slightly further south is the splendid river town of  Bosa , palm trees and pastel buildings lining the water, while a short cruise away is the charming town of  Stintinto  with its pretty harbours full of fishing boats and stunning  La Pelosa   beach . Also in the north west, the brightly painted medieval village of  Castelsardo  sits above the gulf of Asinara, its castle ruins a place of epic beauty high up on the crag above the town.

Cagliari , the capital in the south, is undergoing a cosmopolitan revolution, with wine bars and boutique hotels popping up across this ancient Italian city of palazzos and shady piazzas, with the walled Castello quarter providing astonishing views across the water.

La Maddalena  islands are considered some of the best dive spots for a Sardinia yacht charter, with giant boulders covered in corals and the marine reserve creating a haven for large groupers, barracuda, octopus, eels, and spiny lobster.  Costa Paradiso  in the northwest is also very good indeed, and  Capo Caccia  near Alghero has a superb tunnel and cave network stretching over 350m. On the east coast,  Cala Gonone  provides WWII wrecks and interesting underwater terrain, while  Santa Maria de Navarrese  is the home of a bomber plane and some great boulders, caves, and red coral. If you’re venturing into the south, the  Gulf of Cagliari  offers some fantastic WWII wreck dives, including the  Romagna , which was sunk by a mine in 1943 and the large warship, the  Isonzo . For ancient history buffs, the  Gulf of Teulada  hides remnants of Roman shipwrecks, while just off the shore at  Nora  is where scuba divers can find the marble floor of the ancient flooded port, as well as a sunken Roman highway leading out to sea.

Cruise across to stunning Corsica

As if there wasn’t enough wonder in Sardinia alone, Corsica is just a very short cruise away across the Bonifacio Strait, and is very often included on a Sardinia yacht charter. Please check out Bespoke Yacht Charter’s Corsica yacht charter guide .

A Sardinia yacht charter is the ultimate way to discover Sardinia’s glamorous ports, dreamy archipelagos and stunning beaches in the dazzling light of a Mediterranean summer. But don’t forget to take a day trip inland, to the wild, pure heart of ancient Sardinia.

There is evidence that Sardinia was first occupied by Man as long as 100,000 years ago. Could the island be the 'real Atlantis'? There are a lot of references in the tale of the city consumed by the sea that matches the island, and once more a Sardinian civilisation called the Nuragic people came to play an important role in Mediterranean trade for several centuries, around 1800 years BC.

The island has been subject to domination by different empires from the Byzantines to the Spanish and now, Italy. Each and every age of history has left its mark on Sardinia so though fiercely Catholic you will see references to local pages traditions in the different festivals that happen every year. From nearby Corsica Napoleon Bonaparte wanted Sardinia but the naval and land forces of Europe fended them off. You never know - you may sit in a restaurant once enjoyed by Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson himself!

There is even a language - Sardo - that only Sardinian people speak. The island nation is aware of its current and past ownership by different countries but still very much one of its own.

Hire a yacht in Sardinia to explore this diverse and unique nation on a sailing holiday. There is so much to explore and absorb from its beaches on the east coast to the deep local culture throughout that you may well come back home wanting for more!

Hiring A Yacht In Sardinia

Hiring a yacht in Sardinia follows that of any Italian yacht charter. There is very little to worry about, as long as you have any paperwork you need to hand. If on a bareboat charter you will need your sailing certificates, as well as passport and a credit card/charter insurance policy to hand to cover the legal requirements of a Sardinia yacht charter.

If you are on a luxury yacht charter with a skipper or crew aboard then you just need to worry about getting to the dock!

Whether bareboat or skippered yacht charter you then leave the marina and off you go.

Expect beautiful, quiet, protected natural parks and peaceful beaches with few people around. Don't expect nightclubs full of people on chemicals gyrating to loud music until dawn. Expect fine Italian food and booze that will tickle the tastebuds - enjoy a little too much but don't expect large numbers of 18-year-olds competing to cause themselves liver damage.

The locals welcome yacht charter groups, but it is plain that the nation's primary economy - agriculture, fisheries and viticulture - are of more interest to them than hordes of tourists tramping over their beautiful land. Respect them and they will welcome you warmly. The world adapts to Sardinian life - never in the fast lane but always deeply cultured, warm and genuine.

Getting to the islands

There are direct flights from several airports in the UK and Europe. Let's look at the three main airports:

Cagliari: This is the capital of Sardinia and the international airport serves the south of the island.

Olbia: Serving the Costa Smeralda and north coast of Sardinia with its fine beaches, boutiques, fine dining and laid back vibe. There are a number of direct flights from Italian airports to Olbia too.

Alghero: This smaller international airport has direct flights from several European countries and is great for accessing the Costa Smeralda and west coast with its high cliffs and secluded anchorages.

Ferries from Civitavecchia: There are 38 sailings a day from Civitavecchia on Italy's west coast (not far from Rome). These serve the main cities of Cagliari, Alghero and Olbia as well as a number of smaller towns on the island. In theory, you could drive to Italy and then take a car ferry or fly to Rome and go by bus and on foot to the island.

Best Areas To Charter

Emerald coast.

Almost every stereotype of island life on the Mediterranean can be found here. Beautiful natural harbours like the Cala di Volpe, stunning islets such as the Isola de Cappuccini, dominated by its abandoned Franciscan convent, and churches like the Stella Maris will astound you as you pause and wander this epicentre of luxury holidays.

Maddalena island group

Sailing the Maddalena islands is challenging as, as well as the 60 islands in the La Maddalena archipelago there are an awful lot of rocks! On the Bonifacio Strait, the sailing can be very exciting too. That said with just one island - Maddalena Island - inhabited this is a chance for deep solitude and connection with nature. The views will awe you and the silence will reach deep into you. Don't miss the Spiaggia Rosa - the famous pink beach of Bocelli.

Most people fly or take a ferry into Olbia and don't really pause to appreciate the town. A laid back town that was occupied long before the Romans arrived, it has a lot to take in. Do visit the archaeological museum, the Chiesa di San Paolo church and the Basilica Minore di San Simplicio - the three main tourist attractions. The vibe is more why people visit - the food, the fine alcohol and a chance to forget the world outside.

Porto Pozzo

Typically Sardinian, a yacht charter along the north coast to the fishing village of Porto Pozzo will be a worthwhile pause on your trip around the island. There's much to absorb but this is no buzzing metropolitan centre. You will get fish so fresh it was swimming just hours before it reaches your plate. Taste the locally made ice cream! Enjoy the natural world of the islands nearby.

On an island renowned for its snorkelling and scuba diving, Cannigione is widely held as one of the best villages for this even for Sardinia. There is a commercial fishing port - this means excellent fish in the restaurants - and the beach is astounding.

On the NE Costa Smeralda, Portisco has a large marina and is more town than a village. You may well charter a yacht direct from Portisco, but it is worthy of a pause in its own right, particularly Porto Rotondo - perhaps the last gulp of town life before disappearing into a world of quiet villages and deserted anchorages! The white sandy beach is a great place to catch the sun while the bars and restaurants will get your stomach juices flowing.

Porto Cervo

Unlike many sleepy backwater destinations in Sardinia, this town has a buzz about it - if you have the cash to enjoy it! Buzzy nightspots where you can party all night and shop until you drop with the ladies who lunch at the top end boutiques and restaurants serving the best Sardinian cuisine. Perhaps lie back and relax at a luxury spa too? Once one of the top destinations of the billionaire elite, Porto Cervo still struts its stuff today and accessible directly from Olbia airport now.

Before you absorb yourself into the deep history of this important Mediterranean trading port of the past, do pop into Neptune's Grotto sea cave. That will give you a taste of the natural history of Alghero before you absorb yourself in a town that has relics of empires long into the past. Explore on foot or by bike.

Arriving in (or departing from) Marina Piccola, you will see the capital of Sardinia as sailors have done for centuries - through the marina itself is very modern! Cagliari is a small city in southern Sardinia with 150,000 citizens but the biggest city on the island. If beaches are your thing, drop by the five-mile (8km) long Poetto Beach where you are sure to find a big space to yourself. The history? This goes right back to pre-history so you will be spoiled to death as you explore it!

On the Isola di San Pietro, around four miles off the SW coast of Sardinia, Carloforte is the only urban centre on the island with some 5,000 lucky residents calling it home. Unlike Sardinia's Sardo, the locals speak Ligurian, a language that is part European and part Tunisian. It started out as a fishing village but its quaint charms draw tourists from all over. Very much one of those dialled backstops on a yacht charter, you will be enchanted as you explore this beautiful village.

Best Towns To Charter A Yacht In Sardinia

Cannigione on the northern coast of the island has a number of marinas from which to hire a boat. You can access it via Olbia airport or the ferry terminal at Olbia. Great for exploring the Emerald Coast and the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Olbia is one of the busiest transit towns in Sardinia with a ferry port and an airport. It also has a number of marinas from which you can set off to explore the NW and NE of Sardinia.

Porto Cervo is a party town with a large marina to launch your trip from. It has a number of superyacht berths so if that's your chosen means of exploring this fine island, could well be your departure point. Again, this is close to Olbia airport.

Cagliari on the south coast of Sardinia has its own airport and ferry port with links to mainland Italy. The capital of Sardinia, it is the nearest thing to a cosmopolitan centre you're likely to find on the island! There are several marinas to depart from, easily accessible by taxi or bus from the airport.

Types Of Yachts To Hire

Where it comes to chartering you can hire a motorboat, a monohull sailing yacht, catamaran , Superyacht or Luxury Yacht charter and ribs or day boats. Each has their benefits.

What better way to see this great island than from the bridge of a motor yacht with your friends and family relaxing in the sunshine as you blast along? Often with en suite bathrooms and ample saloon, a motorboat can be a most enjoyable way of seeing this historic island in all its glory.

You will not be the only superyacht on Sardinian waters by any means. You never know - you may be able to do some networking with some of your comfortably off fellows on other boats! Fully crewed and coming in a variety of sizes from large to extremely large, you will find yourself pampered and rested as you see the very best that the island has to offer.

Luxury Charter Yacht

Like superyachts, these will often come with a skipper and perhaps crew but can be sailed on your own too. You'll get what you pay for including perhaps a smaller water tender or toy for exploring those nooks and crannies of the coast and islands of Sardinia.

Still at the luxury end of yachting, and sometimes with sails or without, catamarans are great for getting close into shore thanks to their shallow drafts. That means you can have a barbecue, swim and lie on the beach or rocks all with the boat a stone's throw away... They often have big spaces for sunbathing and the sailing catamarans have a good lick of speed on a reach too!

Monohull sailing yacht

Though the smallest come in at a good budget price, monohull sailing yachts aren't all heeling on a wet beat! Often very comfortable in their own right, monohull yachts can be very fun to sail on waters that are renowned for their excellent sailing. Isn't the journey meant to be as exciting as the destination itself?

Skippered Yacht charter or Bareboat?

Where it comes to a Sardinia yacht charter you have two choices - bareboat hire or skippered yacht charter. Both have their own advantages.

Skippered charter

You don't need any sailing qualifications to have a skippered yacht charter. That could mean you have no sailing experience at all or you could just lack the confidence to sail your family and friends yourself.

Another advantage of a skippered yacht charter is that you will benefit from the local experience and knowledge of people who know these waters like the backs of their hands and should be able to show you things non-locals wouldn't risk or even know about.

Bareboat yacht charter

Perhaps chained to your desk for the last six months you have dreamed of cutting loose and being your own person, in charge of your own journey and destinations with just your family, friends and sealife for the company? You will need sailing qualifications (read below) but then can cut loose and experience the world under your own steam wherever you want...

Do you need a licence to charter in Sardinia?

If you want to bareboat charter you will need an approved boating qualification, below is a list of relevant qualifications:

International Certificate of Competence (ICC): Standard European Qualification for bareboat sailing

ASA 104 Bareboat sailing certificate : The American Sailing Associations skipper minimum qualification for hiring bareboat yachts

RYA: The Royal Yachting Association's qualifications (minimum day skipper level) is necessary for bareboat charter hire, it's also worthwhile seeing do you need to have done a VHF radio course, as well as some boat owners, will require this.

There are also many other European national boating qualifications that are accepted here too. It's worthwhile checking these details before hiring.

If you want a skippered boat rental as a charter yacht then you don't need any sailing certification at all, you just turn up and off you go.

Best Times To Hire

Sardinia has some of the best sailings on the Mediterranean year-round. The season is March - September, and outside of the school holidays, you can enjoy sailing at a good price. In late September the seas are still warm yet it is cooler than the baking temperatures of August too.

July and August are the peak sailing season. This will mean marinas are more expensive and the anchorages are crowded. The nightspots and restaurants will be full, and for those for whom that is a draw, this will be the best time of year.

The Climate

Mistral (Maestrale): Generally dying off to excellent sailing winds come March and picking up again in September, this NW wind comes from the French Alps and is the main wind of winter. It can be quite fierce and can pop its head up at any time of the year.

Libeccio: This SW wind tends to be the wind of summer, heating the air and getting feisty through the Bocche di Bonifacio between Sardinia and Corsica. It is dominant on the west coast of the island.

The Sirocco is a humid wind blowing from the deserts of North Africa. This is dry until it crosses the Mediterranean but the heat draws in moisture so expect a lot of humidity.

Yes, yacht hire in Sardinia is legal. It is one of the best ways to appreciate the island to its full too!

There is usually a boat that will meet every budget to rent in Sardinia. Whether a small RIB to explore a bay, a luxury yacht to see the islands in style, or partying about a multimillion Euro superyacht, you will find a vessel to rent with Borrow A Boat you can afford.

Do you have the qualifications and experience? If not you can take a skippered yacht charter or gulet. You will need to passage plan and victual in the normal way on a bareboat charter. Consider which nights you want at anchor and which you want in port - and budget accordingly.

March to September is the main sailing season. July to August are the busiest and most expensive. If your kids don't need you at home, September can be the best time of year owing to price, warmth and peace and quiet!

You will normally pay 50% upfront ahead of taking on the yacht charter. You will pay the balance on arrival. In addition you will normally pay a refundable security deposit on your credit card - though this can be covered with a yacht charter insurance policy.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to/are on a mooring you will be able to phone a number given by the yacht charter company.

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter you want to book and where do you want to go. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks lile the weather can be cool as well as warm

If you are coming from within the European Union you will not normally have to have a visa. If you are coming to Sardinia from outside, from many English speaking countries you will be allowed in on a standard tourist waiver or visa. If in doubt contact your Italian Embassy.

We are confident that our prices are the most competitive and transparent in the market.

We won't charge any booking fees when you make a booking with us.

We have the highest number of verified and vetted boats available on the market.

About Sardinia

Why is Sardinia a good sailing destination?

With its enchanting mix of crystal-clear waters, dramatic landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture, Sardinia makes for an unrivaled sailing destination, and Yachting.Rent is here to help you discover why.

Sardinia’s coastline is one of the most varied and spectacular in the Mediterranean. The island is known for its stunning array of secluded coves, pristine beaches, and charming harbors. The famous Costa Smeralda, or ‘Emerald Coast’, is renowned for its turquoise waters and beautiful sandy beaches, while the archipelago of La Maddalena boasts some of the best anchorages in the region.

The island’s winds also make for exciting sailing. The mistral wind from the northwest is most common and offers a consistent breeze for great sailing, while the thermal winds in the summer make for calm and relaxing cruises. Whether you’re an experienced sailor looking for an adventurous journey or a novice seeking a tranquil sailing holiday, Sardinia’s waters cater to all.

But the delights of Sardinia are not just restricted to its waters. Step ashore and explore the island’s diverse landscapes, from rugged mountains to dense forests and tranquil lagoons. The island is also steeped in history, with numerous archaeological sites to discover, including the ancient stone towers known as nuraghi.

Sardinian culture is as captivating as its landscapes. The island boasts a unique culinary scene, featuring local specialties such as bottarga, pecorino cheese, and mirto, a berry liquor. The local festivals, or ‘sagre’, offer another glimpse into Sardinian traditions and are a must-visit.

With Yachting.Rent, exploring the charms of Sardinia has never been easier. Experience the beauty of this extraordinary island at your own pace, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

What Choose

Sailing boat or Catamaran, what to sail in Sardinia

At Yachting.Rent, we are passionate about helping you experience the thrill and beauty of sailing in Sardinia, one of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Offering a stunning combination of crystal-clear waters, breathtaking landscapes, and a rich history, it is a paradise for sailing enthusiasts. The question is, should you choose a sailing boat or a catamaran for your journey?

Sailing Boats Sailing boats offer an unparalleled sense of tradition and connection with the sea. With their sleek design and powerful performance, they are perfect for those seeking an authentic, hands-on sailing experience. Sailing boats are ideal for navigating through Sardinia’s smaller bays and harbors, and offer a more exhilarating ride when the wind picks up.

Catamarans Catamarans, with their dual-hull design, provide a unique blend of space, stability, and speed. They are an excellent choice for groups and families, thanks to their roomy interiors and wide decks that are perfect for sunbathing or enjoying meals alfresco. The stability of a catamaran means less rocking, which is especially beneficial for those who are new to sailing or prone to seasickness.

At Yachting.Rent, we offer both sailing boats and catamarans in a variety of sizes and styles, all maintained to the highest standards of safety and comfort.

1. Professional Guidance : Our experienced team can help you decide between a sailing boat and a catamaran based on your group size, sailing experience, and personal preferences.

2. Wide Range of Options : From compact, agile sailing boats to spacious, luxury catamarans, we have options to suit every type of sea adventurer.

3. Qualified Crew : If you prefer, we can provide a skilled and knowledgeable crew who can handle the vessel while you relax and take in the stunning Sardinian vistas.

4. Customized Experience : We can tailor your sailing adventure to your needs, whether that means finding the best spots for swimming and snorkeling, guiding you to hidden coastal gems, or simply ensuring you have the most comfortable journey possible.

5. Safety : All our vessels are equipped with top-notch safety equipment and maintained regularly to ensure you can focus on enjoying your sailing adventure with peace of mind.

Crewed & Bareboat Yacht Charter

Chartering in sardinia.

Yacht charter in Sardinia - An island with one of Europe's most stunning coastlines; it's waters teem with fish; it's golden sands disappear into oceans of blue; it's rugged mountains are covered with flocks of sheep producing cheese so pungent, your palate will never forget.

Sardinia is completely unique and the perfect place for a yacht charter holiday that mixes excitement with the exotic. During the summer, yachts flock to Sardinia. With an average of 300 days of sunshine per year, concentrated from April to September and warm winds off the African continent, the Sardinian climate, can be quite delightful and not quite as hot as other yacht charter areas in the Mediterranean.

You'll find, despite their weird and wonderful ways, that the Sardinian ports compete rather well with the Mediterraneans other chic hot spots. Summers tend to attract lovely warm days and crowds of millionaires, supermodels and luxury yachts, especially to the prestigious Yacht Club Costa Smeralda at Porto Cervo, near Olbia.

For the bareboat charterer though, whose interests are a little more adventurous, Sardinia's humble bays and ports, will allow you to explore some sheer and stunning terrain. A good start is the Grotte di Nettuno (Neptunes Caves) on the beautiful Capocaccia to the north. .

As with other parts of the Mediterranean and Italy, the chartering season generally runs from April to the end of October. The summer season in July and August is the hottest and tends to have lighter winds.

This spectacular and unrivalled island presents a variety of shapes. In fact Sardinia is a surprising blend of "diversities" originated from its complex natural, historical and cultural richness, as it has been, since the most ancient ages, a meeting point for the various cultures of the populations which have landed on and colonized its coasts. In the northern part of the island, between Alghero and Olbia you'll find a rich coastline alternating beaches and bays while the landscape is predominantly rocky. A fantastic journey along the northern irregular coasts of Sardinia, where nature has been wonderfully moulded by a civilization, the roots of which stretch back at the time of the first inhabitants of the Mediterranean. Facing Palau is the Archipelago of La Maddalena, unquestionable natural attraction of extraordinary beauty, from where, reaching its highest point, Guardia Vecchia, you'll be able to enjoy a view of all the islands of the archipelago, sweeping all the way to Corsica .

In the short stretch of sea of the Bocche di Bonifacio dividing Sardinia from Corsica, many islands, of all sizes, rise from the waters, forming the Archipelago of La Maddalena considered one of nature's authentic masterpieces. They're grouped in the eastern (Santo Stefano, La Maddalena, Caprera, with the small islands of Monaci, Sperduti di Caprera, Pecora, Porco, Delle Bisce, Chiesa, Della Paura, Cappuccini) and the western ones (Spargi, Budelli, Razzoli, Santa Maria with the little islands of Spargiotto, Spargiottello, Barrettini, Barrettinelli, Corcelli, La Presa, Paduleddi). The archipelago is characterized by various forms of granite, moulded by the wind and rain: the phenomenon of the "tafoni", big round rocks with fantastic shapes, entirely excavated by the crumbling of the rock from within. One of the most renowned is the one at Capo d'Orso on the coast in the vicinities of Palau.

La Maddalena, is the most extended island and is mostly levelled. Along the southern coast lies the city of La Maddalena, delimited in the western part by the cape of Punta Tegge and in the eastern part by the ample bay of Cala Camicia and Punta Moneta; facing this bay, at a distance of 500 meters, is the isalnd of Santo Stefano. The natural environment is still wild and its coasts shelter small beaches overlooking fabulous waters. Going north, the coastline forms the coves of Spalmatore and Porto Massimo, then the cape of Marginetto with Point Marginetto, the most northern of La Maddalena. The coast goes back down south-west, forming, with the peninsula of Abbatoggia, the deep gulf of Monti di Rena; the granite, here, is finely levigated by the violent west wind forms vast sandy dunes. You'll find the same phenomenon going just a little further south, past Punta Abbatoggia and past the little island with the same name, in the area of Spiaggia Bassa or Trinit where the sandy landscape is even more fascinating, with its dunes of very fine white sand. The coastline continues with the steep massif of Guardia Majore, penetrating just a little further in the bay of cala Inferno, rocky and irregular; from there it goes back up west and then turnes definitely south with Punta Testiccioli. The whole area is one of the most inaccessible and the granite is marked by the sea's fury and by the strong north winds. A good refuge is Cala Francese, just a little further south, overlooked by a large granite quarry.

Caprera,This island is smaller than la Maddalena but its total coastline is longer, 45,5 km, because of th long and narrow cape of granite that stretches all the way to Punta Rossa, seat of a Navy Military base since 1887. The extreme southern coast of Caprera is a morphologically very frail and unsteady area; a profound opening of the sea forms the marvellous Porto Palma. The entire eastern coast of Caprera and also the northern one, are formed by striking cliffs of granite, almost totally unaccessible, so evocative and beautiful, formed by the more steep side of the long massif of Mount Teialone.

The island of Asinara situated in the north-western part of Sardinia has an extension of 5.200 ha., while the sea's surface extension is 21.000 ha. The coastline is 110 km.long. It belongs to the Government and is part of the territory of the town of Porto Torres. The island is 17,5 km. long and its maximum width is 6,14 km. The western part is characterized by high schistose falaises, steep rocky slopes with numerous landslides and ravines, large canals and crevices, while in the eastern part you'll find wide bays and small beaches with the tipical rough sand of the granite morphology with ample rocky outcrops. This island is famous for its unique landscape and for the environmental beauties, but also and mostly for the rich wildlife: many are the species living on the island, some are very rare and, unfortunately threatened with extinction.

The southern part of Corsica is separated form Sardinia by the legendary Bocche di Bonifacio, a short strait, only few miles long. The coast, together with the turqoise and transparent sea, with the immense granite peaks, with the vast woods, the uplands and limestone slopes, form one of the most astonishing region of the island. Bonifacio marks the southern extremity of Corsica. A mediterrenean city located in a tortuous area, with its antique districts lying on top of white cliffs falling vertically to the sea and its port: a gully, deep cove with steep rocky faces, which separate it, almost completely, from dry land. Bonifacio is a tourist center most popular among the more exigent visitors. Portovecchio is an antique Genoese citadel close to the famous beaches and to some minor little islands such as Lavezzi and Cavallo.
