The Sailor's Style Guide: How to Dress at a Yacht Club

If you've been invited to a casual yacht club rendezvous, you'll need the right threads to fit in.  in this guide, we'll walk you through the yacht club attire you'll need to fit in. hint: you can find the perfect outfit head to toe with castaway.

You've been invited to a meal or event at a local yacht club, but you've never been to one before. Suddenly, the panic sets in. What should you wear? Fortunately, there are lots of options and visiting a yacht club does not mean you have to spend a lot of money just to fit in. This post will give you some pointers on yacht club attire so that you feel neither under nor overdressed, and can really enjoy yourself and have a great time at the club.

Before you even think about what to wear, check to see if the yacht club you're going to has a dress code posted online. Most of them do, and the rules can vary from club to club. The Nantucket Yacht Club , for example, requires semi-formal attire for its dinners and cocktail attire including ties for men during its dinner dances and balls. The Hyannis Yacht Club goes into a little more detail. It accepts stylish casual wear including clean, neat jeans and shorts for lunch. For dinner, guests are expected to step it up by leaving the denim at home and wearing sports coats. Different areas of a club may also have different dress rules. Bars and outdoor decks tend to more lax and allow casual clothing.

Sometimes, the easiest way of narrowing down what to wear is to eliminate what you should not wear. This is just a partial list of how not to show up at any kind of yacht club unless you want to be denied admittance or receive a lot of disapproving glares. All rules listed apply to the inside of the club, and can vary for beach and dock rulings.

Flip Flops or Going Barefoot: This rule applies INSIDE the club, or for any meal time. Most people love the beach, but going barefoot is not only unacceptable, but unhygienic.

You'll want to wear appropriate footwear such as sturdy sandals or closed toe shoes. While a lot of children and adults love their flip-flops, they may be a little too casual for a yacht club atmosphere. The most popular choice here is a boat shoe style but a bridle bit driver is always appropriate - check the latest . The lightly worn leather and pencil-curled laces fit the bill in the cool department.

Torn, Stained, or Worn Clothing: Any attire that is showing signs of wear such as rips, stains that never came out, holes, missing buttons, etc. should be left at home.

Baseball Caps and Other Hats: Most yacht clubs prefer that men remove their caps when inside the venue. Save them for the sailing excursions.

Extra points on the water if you rock the Club’s Burgee on the hat!

Swimwear: Just a no-no. Save it for the boat and the beach. A cover-up can be acceptable for the patio.

Going Shirtless: Nope!

Undershirts as Shirts: See above. You may also want to be careful about choosing a t-shirt, particularly one with graphics, when visiting a yacht club. Most prefer that you wear a collared shirt, even if it's a casual one such as a polo shirt.

Tank tops for men and any tank tops for women that are skimpy and don't hide undergarments should be saved for another occasion.

Women have a lot of options when it comes to visiting a yacht club. Linen and cotton make the perfect summer blouses. A light but structured Sleeveless Top paired with a  sweater is perfect for warding off cool sea breezes when you're out on the deck. A polo or collared shirt works well for the yacht club scene as well. You can also consider a dressy blouse that has a little bit of flounce to it. If shorts are allowed for the time and area of the club you're visiting, consider sporting  Sailing  shorts  with a cute anchor embroidery. They're cool, classy, and show off just the right amount of leg. Casual skirts and dresses are perfectly fine as well as long as they're not too short and revealing. If you're attending a party at a yacht club you may need to wear a nice cocktail dress, or a classic Tunic Dress for a day event. Special events such as balls and dinner dances usually specify what is appropriate attire on the invitation.

Don't forget to have fun with accessories! A straw handbag can complete a nautical themed look.

For most casual yacht club occasions, men can't go wrong with a collared shirt and long pants or Cisco Shorts . Pastel and preppy shades such as summer green, hurricane red, and islander blue rule here.

When casual attire is allowed, collared sport or polo shirts are always in fashion. Seersucker and linen shirts are available in several colors and patterns for summer club get-togethers. If jeans are not allowed, seersucker or cotton canvas pants are still casual and comfortable yet dressy enough for all areas of a yacht club. The jacket, as worn in many an ocean passage, gives you great weather protection – but it does lack a hood. Its size and comforting coverage is great for a cooler days of cruising, but probably not quite as ideal for your racing bow team.

Dressing for a Yacht Club Party

Lucky you!  You have just received an invitation for your very first yacht club party.  For most people this brings up the question “What on earth do I wear?”.  Have no fear!  We work with many yacht clubs to make sure their members look sharp with custom ties and scarves .  Here are some of our style tips to help you navigate the waters of yacht club fashion and pull together an amazing outfit.

Yacht Club Wear – Do Nots

While yacht club attire can vary by club and time of day of the event, there are certain items that just won’t do.  You should always avoid the following:

• T-Shirts / Tank Tops
• Revealing clothing (i.e. cut-off shirts, mini skirts, etc)
• Wrinkled or otherwise “sloppy” attire

Also, while you may be tempted to don an ascot or jaunty captain’s hat … don’t.  For most people this will come across as cliche rather than sporty.  Classic styles, nautical colors and smart layers are the best way to go when building your dock-side ensemble.  You can also shop many of the clubs’ stores for shirts and ties embellished with the club logo.  

Yacht Club Wear –  Dos

Hopefully, your invitation indicates the dress code.  But if it doesn’t, there are two general rules of thumb.  If the party is during the day, then select attire in the “country club casual” category.  If the party is in the evening, opt for traditional cocktail party wear.  

Country Club Casual for Men

A classic polo or Oxford shirt is the standard for men.  Shirts should be clean, in good condition and neatly pressed.  These should be worn with black slacks or khakis.  When it comes to shoes, loafers in brown or black are the most popular choice.  A less popular but also acceptable footwear option is a pair of leather boots in black or brown.  Some yacht clubs require blazers even for daytime events.  To be safe, check the attire requirements posted on the club’s website or call them prior to the event.

Country Club Casual for Women

Just like men, polo shirts paired with well-cut slacks are an acceptable option for women.  Women can also choose a tailored blouse worn with a knee-length cotton skirt for a slightly dressier look.  Another popular ensemble is a simple summer dress with minimal accessories.  A cashmere sweater is the perfect outer layer to protect from cool breezes.  Ballet flats are the top shoe choice when dressing country club casual.  

Cocktail Attire for Men

While not as formal as black-tie, cocktail wear is decidedly dressier than daytime apparel at a yacht club.  Dress slacks with a jacket and tie or a full suit are both appropriate options for an evening event.  Choose neutrals and subdued tones over bright colors or prints.  Men should accessorize with a black leather belt and matching shoes.  Stick with a loafer or Oxford style shoe and be sure your socks coordinate with your pants.  

Cocktail Attire for Women

Cocktail dresses should be knee-length or midi-length in a solid or very subtle print.  If you are having a tough time finding the right color, the quintessential “little black dress” is always a smart choice.  Another popular trend for evening events is a formal women’s pant suit.  When it comes to accessorizing, less is more.  Choose a single statement piece of jewelry rather than a multitude of pieces and opt for a clutch instead of a shoulder bag.  Heels, dressy sandals, and ballet flats are all acceptable shoe options.

 Siandra is a 35' Lion Class , designed by Arthur Robb , built by Ron Swanson and owned by Graham Newland . She was an outstanding yacht of the 50's and 60's.

In 1954 Graham Newland  commissioned Ron Swanson to lay the keel of Siandra in the backyard of his engineering works. For the next 2 years, he spent his spare time building the boat which was finally launched in 1956.

That year she was 2 nd in her division in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race 1956 . In 1958 she went on to win the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race 1958 outright and also the Middle Harbour Yacht Club 's Racing Shield and their offshore series. She also won a Montague Island race.

Then again she won the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race 1960 , giving her a double.

History of Siandra

Siandra and her two sister yachts were built in the period 1954/6 with much co-operation between the 3 owners as far as the purchase of timber etc. was concerned. Ron Swanson was employed by Graham Newland to build Siandra before Ron extended business for himself.

The difficulties of building a yacht in this period were profound. Australia was still suffering from great shortages caused by World War II. The purchase of the north coast White Beach for the planking gives an idea.

Sufficient timber for the construction of 4 yachts was required, three Lion Class yachts Siandra, Kaiyu (Bill Henderson), Malohi (Nev McEnallyy), plus Eos for Tom Flower . All owners wanted full length planks so the only way was to purchase eleven trees in the forest where they stood. No local timber mill could handle these logs in their full length, so they were railed to Sydney. After much searching, a timber jinker was found that could carry the logs to a mill with a 40foot run-out in Baulkham Hills. Here the logs were cut into planks.

The mill however did not have a planer. So the 4 owners, with some help, loaded the planks onto a semi and they were transported to Hayman & Ellis Mill at Manly for planing Again the owners provided the labour, together with the reloading onto the semi for distribution to the various building sites.

Siandra and her sister Kaiyu were built in the rear of the factory nearly opposite the Mater Hospital in Crows Nest. Siandra was launched in 1956.

Her first season was very successful including winning Second Division of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race . But for the failure of a forestay, turn buckle only a few miles from the finish, this could have been a win overall. She won the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race 1958 and again in Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race 1960

Today (1995) Siandra is halfway through a world cruise. Her young owners have been through a major cyclone and report that the yacht has performed to their highest expectation.

Note about Kaiyu

As sad note about Kaiyu from Scott Ryrie and Malcolm Lambe (current owner of EOS):  "Kaiyu" Siandra's sister ship was taken to the tip by the MSB. She was moored in Careel Bay in a pretty sad state. The RMS towed it to their mooring at Quays Marine, Church Point, where it sank. It was refloated and at least two reputable shipwrights/yards wanted to save it but RMS refused. It was put on a low-loader and sent to Kimbricki Tip, Terry Hills two weeks ago (14th Aug 2019). I presume it was broken up. 

Owner was a boat painter. 

Both vessels were built at the same time in 1956 and from the same log of Beech from Wauchope. They were railed down from Wauchope and milled at Baulkham Hills.

An article written for "Sails" magazine by the owners (Nikki and Jamie Perryman) of Siandra in 1998. They took the boat across the Indian Ocean, and this is their story about going through a cyclone and how well Siandra weathered the storm.

Siandra was designed by Arthur Robb of England and built by expert boat builder, Ron Swanson of Sydney, launched in July 1956.She first competed in the 1956 Hobart Race to gain first place in Second Division. 

Following many wins in offshore events, she added to her record by winning the1957 Montague Island Race, then climaxed her yachting career by winning the Sydney to Hobart Race in 1958.

She has been re-rigged recently as Mast-head sloop and since then has won a Bird Island Race. 

She must be considered as one of the major threats in the Classic.

A lot of Sydney restaurants lay claim to Amalfi Coast inspiration – but few of them sit on their own private sandy beach on Middle Harbour. Enter St Siandra, a Med-inspired restaurant and bar opening at The Spit in Mosman in February. The waterfront diner’s kitchen will be led by Sam McCallum, ex-head chef of beloved Surry Hills restaurant Nomad .

“Absolute waterfront spots like this on Middle Harbour don’t come up often in Sydney,” co-owner Gavin Gray tells Broadsheet . “That the restaurant is also on a private beach where you can arrive by foot, car or boat, just 15 minutes from the city, and feel like you've travelled much further afield makes it all the more unique and special.”

As befits its location, the menu will offer a cornucopia of seafood. Think seven-spice Moreton Bay bugs, Pacific oysters with ajo blanco, and skewered baby octopus and tiger prawns. There’s also a glitzy take on the surf’n’turf: Jack’s Creek Angus striploin with butter-poached lobster tail. McCallum’s time at Nomad comes through in the wood-fired flatbread with smoked-garlic hummus.

Drinks will evoke summer holidays on the Amalfi. Sip chianti, soave and Provence rosé, as well as spritzes on tap and cocktails by Kurtis Bosley ( Corretto , Banco ). St Siandra is named for a boat based in Middle Harbour that won the Sydney to Hobart yacht race in 1958 and 1960. And Bosley’s cocktails are named after other famous local yachts; there’s the Champagne Charlie and the Rum Runner.

St Siandra will sprawl across two levels, with interiors by Sally Taylor ( Felix , Queen Chow Manly ). The ground-floor dining room and bar will be decorated with sunshine-yellow walls, terracotta tiles, white marble and Italian iron furniture. Up on the second floor a function space will offer a softer, blue palette and have a private bar and deck.

Gray co-owns the venue with Mitchell Davis, and the pair have form in waterfront diners: their catering consultancy is behind the food at Bondi Icebergs Club (not to be confused with Icebergs Dining Room and Bar ).

St Siandra will open at 75 Lower Parriwi Road, The Spit, Mosman in February 2023.

Complete with its own private beach set-up and Nomad's former head chef Sam McCallum at the helm, the multi-storey restaurant, bar, and event space is yet another jewel in Sydney's already impressive collection of waterfront venues .

Here, McCallum dishes out local seafood at its best with a touch of his Mediterranean flair. Think seven-spice Moreton Bay bugs, wood-fired flatbread with smoked garlic chickpea hummus, Pacific oysters with Ajo Blanco, and Skull Island tiger prawns served on skewers. There'll also be a luxurious bone-in striploin with butter-poached lobster tail.

To drink, there are spritzes on tap, European vino like chilled Chianti or a Provence Rosé, and a list of signature cocktails named after famous local yachts like "Champagne Charlie" and "Rum Runner". 

The restaurant is also named after a Middle Harbour yacht, the St Siandra, which had a few Sydney To Hobart wins in its time. With two private moorings, you'll be able to arrive by boat (the best way to rock up to any occasion, really) and soak up the stunning Amalfi interiors by local designer Sally Turner (Felix, Queen Chow Manly). 

As well as sit-down lunch and dinner, St Dreux coffee and pastries from Seaforth’s Staple Bakery will be available takeaway every day from 7am to 12pm.

Middle Harbour Yacht Club will welcome a Med-inspired restaurant and bar in February, with renowned former Nomad Head Chef Sam McCallum at the helm.

Called St Siandra, the beachfront eatery will celebrate Australian seafood and producers, offering a “sensory escape to the Amalfi Coast without leaving Sydney” co-owner Gavin Gray tells Mosman Collective.

Head Chef McCallum, formerly of two-hatted Nomad restaurant, will bring his signature flavours to the new multi-level beachfront restaurant, bar and events venue, set on the private white-sand beach at Middle Harbour Yacht Club on Parriwi Rd.

Complementing this will be a list of endless summer soirée-style wines from Australian and European regions – think a Soave, a chilled Chianti or a Provence Rosé – alongside free-flowing spritzes on tap and cocktails and curated by Sydney cocktail czar Kurtis Bosley, named after famous historical local yachts from years gone by like Champagne Charlie and Rum Runner.

St Sandria will bring back classics like “Surf and Turf” in a 5-star way.

Interiors by renowned local designer Sally Taylor (Felix, Queen Chow Manly, Beaux Rumble and Elva) will transport diners to the Amalfi Coast with the ground floor St Siandra dining room and bar featuring sunny yellow walls, terracotta tiling, golden veined white marble, Italian iron furniture, woven loveseats and ornate plaster.

The second-floor Bluebird Room & Deck function space will be soft-blue hued and flooded with natural light, complete with a private bar and deck overlooking the water.

Diners can expect interiors of sunny yellow walls, terracotta tiling and golden veined white marble.

Named after the famous Middle Harbour-based yacht which won a Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race double in the 1950s and 1960s, St Siandra will have access to two private moorings for arrivals via private boat or water taxi.

It is the first standalone venue by seasoned Sydney hospitality duo, chefs-turned-restaurateurs Mitchell Davis and Gavin Gray of Great Eats, the catering consultancy behind many of Sydney’s top local eateries including Bondi Icebergs Club.

“We’re incredibly excited to create this new venue offering a unique dining experience in one of the most beautiful spots in Sydney with one of the country’s finest young chefs, Sam McCallum helming the kitchen,” said Gavin.

We’re told to expect the finest Australian seafood when dining at St Siandra at The Spit.

“This is definitely the highlight of our combined 40+ years experience running kitchens and hospitality businesses across the country to date.”

St Siandra will start taking bookings in the New Year for lunch Wednesday to Sunday, dinner Thursday to Sunday, and breakfast on weekends, and events in the Bluebird function space.

The clear water laps the sand. The white fringe on red and white striped umbrellas on the beach rustle gently, as do the white curtains of the dining room I’m seated in. I’m dipping melt-in-your-mouth potato flatbread into a tahini dip drizzled with a spicy green sauce, savouring the different flavours as I lean back against my chair’s pink and white striped cushion, taking it all in.

You’d be right to think I was on Amalfi Coast , dining at an authentic Italian seaside restaurant. But, in fact, I’m in Sydney, just a 30-minute drive from home. I’m at St Siandra , which quietly opened in February this year and sits right on Middle Harbour in Mosman. It’s named after the famous Middle Harbour-based yacht that won a Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race double in the 1950s and 1960s.

Co-owners Gavin Gray, who has over 20 years of hospitality experience, and chef-turned-restauranteur Mitch Davis had been working together for six years when the space adjacent to the Middle Harbour Yacht Club went up for lease.

“We’d been chatting for a while about finding a spot to create a new venue,” says Gray. “Locations like that don’t come up often so we jumped on it, starting to gather up a team of top hospo talent together — from interior designer Sally Taylor, to passionate young chef Sam McCallun — and came up with the concept of St Siandra.”

Fresh from his time running Revolver Espresso in Bali, Adam George is the venue’s general manager. Gray describes it as a relaxed, coastal holiday-inspired restaurant and bar, which makes the most of the stunning water views at Mosman’s The Spit. He says there’s nothing else quite like St Siandra in Sydney.

He says the best way to set the scene for a breakfast (Friday-Sunday), lunch (Wednesday-Sunday) or dinner (Thursday-Saturday) here is to arrive by water — either in a water taxi or private boat — breezing into the private berth, before skipping across and the sand and settling into a table overlooking the water.

“Order up a glass of Laurent-Perrier Champagne to start, or perhaps one of our cocktails named after historic yachts from the area,” Gray says. “The Champagne Charlie with Manly Spirits Limoncello, citrus and processco is a popular option.

To follow the drink, Gray suggests ordering the potato flatbread paired with tahini is a must, along with skewers of Clarence River baby octopus and Skull Island prawns cooked on charcoal. Then, share a market fish, lamb shoulder and prawn spaghetti over a bottle of summer-style wine. That said, it’s the Jack’s Creek Angus MB4 striploin with lobster tail in a Champagne and Pedro sauce that’s Gray’s favourite dish on the menu.

“It’s our take on a surf and turf, celebrating great local produce and rich, moreish flavours,” he says.

To finish, Gray says the pineapple pavlova with crème fraiche and molasses has been a big guest winner. And that the real best way to end your time here is to retire to a deck chair on the sand of the private beach, digestif in hand. He says he wants guests to walk away feeling relaxed, reconnected and happy – how you’d feel after a much-needed beach holiday in a far-flung location.

St Siandra’s first-floor events venue, Bluebird Room and Deck, is a soft blue space with a private bar and deck that caters for functions with up to 70 people. You can also grab takeaway coffee from St Dreux and pastries from Seaforth’s Staple Bakery from the venue any day of the week.

“Dining here, you’ll feel like you’ve travelled much further afield than just up the road or across the bridge,” Gray says. “It’s a bit of escapism, a holiday in your own backyard, a trip to the Amalfi Coast without the price tag, a bit of endless summer year-round.”

"Tradition and Excellence Since 1939"

The first official meeting was held in the Griffin Brothers' Boatshed at the Spit. Mr Dick Down, a life member and past Commodore of the Sydney Amateur Sailing Club, was invited to be President and Togo Middows became Secretary. George Griffin, a first-class boat builder, remained an active member of Middle Harbour until his death and was the subject of many stories regarding his legendary strength and sailing abilities. Nicknamed, "Gorilla", Griffin built the first registered club yacht, "Flying Cloud", which was owned by Togo Middows. Throughout the war years the club still conducted races and after the war Middle Harbour Yacht Club, as it had now become known, started to go from strength to strength.

In 1944, the club introduced Saturday racing in two divisions; A and B class yachts. The fleet was mainly small craft, and a yacht had to have a fixed keel to be eligible to race. By 1947, there were eight yachts in A Division and ten yachts in B Division. There were fifteen other yachts which did not race so the total fleet numbered 33.

On November 27, 1954 the first clubhouse was opened by the Mayor of Mosman. At the time, members had little idea that by the 1980s the club would grow larger than all the combined clubs of the time. Nor could they have foreseen the explosion in popularity that their beloved sport of sailing was about to experience.

The first off-shore race conducted by MHYC was a modest affair. On August 21, 1954 ten yachts crossed the starting line for a race to Newport on Pittwater. Despite light winds, forcing some of the fleet to motor to Pittwater, the race was won by "Pinta" who threw up a spinnaker after rounding Barrenjoey Headland and crossed the finish line at 0335 hours on August 22.

"Pinta" had started a new era for MHYC and it was not long before club yachts were making headlines. In 1956, "Siandra" became the first MHYC yacht to enter the Sydney-Hobart Race. It was to become one of the most famous yachts of the 50s. In 1958, "Siandra" with Graham Newland as skipper and Ron Swanson, Frank Likely, Pod O'Donnell and Peter Mounsey as crew won this blue-ribbon ocean event. A winning tradition had begun and the 1959 Sydney-Hobart Race saw seven MHYC yachts take part with four finishing in the top ten places.

In 1960, "Siandra" won the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia's first Blue Water Championship. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, MHYC yachts and their crews took many racing honours with boats such as "Carmen", "Cavalier", "Cadence", "Moonbird" and "Janzoon II" all prominent winners. At the club's 25th anniversary a new race from Sydney to Brisbane was created to be a feeder for the Brisbane-Gladstone Race. Again, MHYC yachts were winners, with "Cadence" and "Carmen" coming 1st and 2nd in the inaugural event.

In 1969, famous yacht designer and builder, Ron Swanson, on "Sundowner", made MHYC proud by taking out the double of line and handicap honours in the Brisbane-Gladstone Race. In 1972, the race fleet was hit by a cyclone and only six yachts finished with Peter Hopwood's, "Harmony" battling on through incredible 112 mph winds to win!

In 1965, MHYC placed eleven members in the first Australian Admiral's Cup Team and internationally the club started to make its mark with many honours over forthcoming years going to names such as Ron Swanson, Doug Gilling, Hugh Treharne and Warren Johns.

Since the 1970's, MHYC members have continued to be top performers in all facets of sailing, whether it be the classic ocean races or the activities of the Centreboard Division, which was created in 1963.

With the success and continued growth of the club a new clubhouse became essential. In 1963 the club obtained the site of the old Spit Baths and it was on this perfect vantage point that a marina complex and the present clubhouse were eventually built.

During the 1970s MHYC benefitting from improvements including a new clubhouse, saw membership climb to the 2,000 mark for the first time. In fact, in 1976 membership was 2,197 compared to less than 1,000 in 1971; an amazing growth period. The 70s also saw the creation of a Cruising Division for the adventurous non-racing sailors and the "Sailing Birds" group was established to develop training programs to teach people how to sail. This tradition of excellence in training and safety programs has continued to be a feature of MHYC to this day.

1976 saw the inaugural Sydney-Suva Yacht Race started by the Governor General of the Day, Sir John Kerr. It was also mentioned in the Rear Commodore's report around this time that MHYC was conducting races on 170 days per year for over 200 entrants surpassing any other yacht club in Australia. The success of club members and their yachts during this period was legendary. It would be impossible here to list all the racing successes but in summary, MHYC representatives won practically everything on water including the Sydney to Mooloolaba Race, Brisbane to Gladstone Race, Dunhill Half Ton Cup, Ampol Tasman Trophy, South Solitary Island Race plus numerous State, National and World titles. In 1983, MHYC was the first club to welcome back the victorious Australia II crew, including club member Hugh Treharne, after they won the America's Cup.

During the 80s Twilight Races, The 3 Ports Race and the Philips Night Race all emerged as exciting MHYC activities. Despite the economic difficulties in the community during the 1980s MHYC, through the tremendous efforts of club members and volunteers, remained a progressive and viable organisation. MHYC emerged from the 80s a stronger outfit with the largest membership and yacht register of any yacht club in Australia. The club had established an excellent racing record, a comprehensive yearly calendar of first-class events, an enthusiastic Cruising Division, a tremendous junior membership program and first-rate training and safety schemes.

The 1990's saw a long financial struggle for MHYC, and the Club continue's today as a result of the resolve and contributions of its members. The Club now has no external debt. More importantly the Club was able to finance and construct a new 76 berth floating marina, which now forms the centrepiece of not only the Club's sailing activities but also its revenue stream. 

As a result of the Junior Sailing program held at MHYC during the 90's we developed a strong line up of Aussie Sailors. Culminating in the success of Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page in the 470 Class. Nathan and Malcolm won all before them, 4 World Championships, and finally Olympic Gold in Beijing in 2008. MHYC continues its junior racing activities to bring along more talented young Australian Sailors.

MHYC is the scene of year round sailing activity. The club boasts a comprehensive calendar of events that sees action on and off the water taking place virtually every day and evening of the year. This broad spectrum of events and activities offers participants at all levels and in all aspects of our sport the opportunity to experience and enjoy the many rewards sailing has to offer cradled in a unique atmosphere of spirit and camaraderie.

Siandra is a 35' Lion Class, designed by Arthur Robb, built by Ron Swanson and owned by Graham Newland.She was an outstanding yacht of the 50's and 60's. In 1954 Graham Newland commissioned Ron Swanson to lay the keel of Siandra in the backyard of his engineering works. The interior of the YALLA yacht was a finalist for The ShowBoats Design Awards 2015 for Interior Design in a Motor Yacht over 500GT.

The exterior of the YALLA yacht was a finalist for the Naval Architecture Award on a Displacement Motor Yacht and the Exterior Design & Styling Award on a Motor Yacht over 500GT at The ShowBoats Design Awards 2015.

The external profile of this vessel has been designed by Omega Architects, in close collaboration with the CRN Engineering Department which developed the naval project, while their interiors have been created by Droulers Architecture, which has worked in close collaboration with the shipyard’s Interiors and Design Office.

The new megayacht, the first to be built by CRN on the new naval platform of 12.50 metres in width, is characterized by sleek, slender and sporty lines, which make the profile particularly streamlined. With 5 decks, M/Y CRN 132 73 m can host up to 12 guests in its six cabins, including the Owner Suite and Vip cabins, together with a crew of 22 members.

The construction of this new jewel of the sea, which includes the best design solutions realized by CRN, has required around 430,000 hours of work from the shipyard workers and subcontractors and the daily contribution of over 150 direct and indirect workers.

Off the Hook Yachts is proud to announce the acquisition of Georgetown Yacht Basin (GYB) now rebranding under Georgetown Yacht Haven – a 300-boat slip full-service marina located on the Sassafras River in Georgetown, MD.  Off the Hook plans to restore the yacht basin to its former glory and reconnect with the local community in order to establish it as a household name in the area. 

As our founder is originally from Maryland, this will complement our current presence in the area, along with our MD sales team, which currently operates out of Bay Bridge Marina. Georgetown Yacht Haven has 300 slips, two paint sheds that can hold up to a 110-foot yacht, a 110-ton travel lift, a fuel dock, a swimming pool, bathhouses, and a complete ship store, along with many other amenities. GYH controls the largest travel lift in Northern Chesapeake Bay.

Performance & Range

Cocoa Bean is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 14 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots with a range of up to 6,000 nautical miles from her 242,266 litre fuel tanks at 13 knots. An advanced stabilisation system on board reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht and promises guests exceptional comfort levels at anchor or when underway.

Cocoa Bean knows a thing or two about fun on the water, with a selection of water toys and accessories for you and your guests to enjoy whilst on charter. Take to the sea on the Jet Skis offering you power and control on the water. Also there are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. Additionally, there are two kayaks - a tranquil and relaxing way to pass the time. 73m superyacht Yalla launched by CRN

Italian yacht builder CRN has launched its 73m superyacht Yalla .

CRN welcomed more than 1,000 guests to the launching ceremony of CRN 132 Yalla , held late this morning at its shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The launch ceremony included speeches from Alberto Galassi, new CEO of the Ferretti Group , Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN, Xinyu Xu, Vice-chairman of Weichai Group, and the Mayor of Ancona Valeria Mancinelli.

Part of the Ferretti Group,  CRN  specialises in custom yachts up to 90 metres in steel and aluminium. Yalla is the first yacht built by CRN on its new 12.5m beam platform. More than 430,000 hours from CRN and its subcontractors were spent on Yalla 's build, with contributions from 150 employees.

Exterior styling comes from Omega Architects in The Netherlands, in close collaboration with the CRN Engineering Department. The five-deck motor yacht features sleek, sporty lines and a streamlined profile. Superyacht Yalla 's interiors are by Droulers Architecture, working with CRN's Interiors and Design Office. She hosts up to 12 guests in its six cabins, including an owner's suite and VIP cabins, along with 22 crew members.

'Following the launch of CRN 133 61m superyacht a few months ago, we are proud to celebrate the launch of the new Yalla of 73m, which represents a challenge and an objective for the whole CRN shipyard,' says Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN. ' Yalla will mark another important result for the development of CRN in the world. A sincere thanks for the trust of the owner and for the work of all employees and subcontractors who have worked on the project, to the architects Franck Laupman of Omega Architects and to Droulers Architecture. I also thank our shareholder Weichai Group and the new CEO of the Group Alberto Galassi for their participation in this important event for CRN and for the whole Ferretti Group.'

The Ferretti Group currently has five superyachts underway at the Ancona shipyard, including the 74m CRN 131, 55m CRN 134, a Ferretti Custom Line CL 124, the 61m CRN 133 and the Riva 122 Mythos , which are at the delivery stage.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. The Breakfast Club has been a locally-owned Moscow breakfast staple for 12 years. The food is delicious, and the portions are appropriate (not gigantic). They have stuffed biscuits and gravy which is biscuits cut in half with eggs and bacon in the middle, covered in in-house made sausage gravy. If you are ever in Moscow in the wee hours of the morning, this is the place to stop!!!

The Breakfast Club has been a locally-owned Moscow breakfast staple for 12 years. The food is delicious, and the portions are appropriate (not gigantic). They have stuffed biscuits and gravy which is biscuits cut in half with eggs and bacon in the middle, covered in in-house made sausage gravy. If you are ever in Moscow in the wee hours of the morning, this is the place to stop!!!
