About Galveston
Why is Galveston a good sailing destination?
The allure of the Gulf of Mexico, with its vast azure expanse and sun-kissed shores, has beckoned sailors for centuries. Nestled on its edge is Galveston, Texas, a maritime gem that embodies the quintessential charm of the Gulf Coast. With Yachting.Rent as your nautical guide, delve into the reasons why Galveston stands as one of the most coveted sailing destinations, combining nature, history, and modern-day amenities in a nautical ballet of experiences.
Galveston’s geographical location gifts it a unique maritime identity. Sandwiched between the sprawling Galveston Bay and the majestic Gulf of Mexico, the city boasts diverse sailing environments, catering to both the novice sailor and the experienced mariner. As you set sail into the bay, calm waters greet you, offering a perfect setting for leisurely sailing, fishing, or simply anchoring to savor a Texan sunset. The bay is dotted with islands, marinas, and waterfront establishments, ensuring that every sailing expedition is peppered with discoveries, be it a secluded beach or a vibrant dockside eatery. For the more adventurous, the Gulf of Mexico awaits, presenting an expanse where the horizon stretches endlessly, and where the spirit of exploration is unbridled. Here, the possibility of spotting playful dolphins, majestic whales, or even engaging in deep-sea fishing amplifies the thrill of the voyage.
Yet, sailing in Galveston is not merely about navigating its waters; it’s about immersing in the city’s rich tapestry of history and culture. Galveston, with its storied past, resonates with maritime tales that span centuries. Historic harbors, lighthouses, and maritime museums dot the shoreline, each narrating tales of yesteryears. As you dock and explore, you’re transported back in time, walking through streets lined with Victorian architecture, or perhaps indulging in local seafood delicacies that carry the flavor of the Gulf. Yachting.Rent ensures that your journey integrates these elements, crafting an experience that’s as enriching on land as it is at sea.
Complementing the natural and historical charms is Galveston’s modern-day infrastructure tailored for sailors. State-of-the-art marinas equipped with contemporary amenities, skilled repair and maintenance facilities, and an array of waterfront accommodations ensure that every need of the modern-day sailor is catered to. Whether you’re looking for a short-term berth, require technical assistance, or simply wish to connect with fellow sailors, Galveston’s maritime community is both welcoming and well-equipped. With Yachting.Rent by your side, every logistical aspect, from chartering the perfect yacht to suggesting anchorages or curating land expeditions, is handled with expertise and passion.

What Choose
Sailing boat or Catamaran, what to sail in Galveston
In the vibrant maritime realm of Galveston, Texas, where the Gulf of Mexico’s vastness meets the tranquil embrace of Galveston Bay, the decision of vessel selection can significantly shape your sailing experience. At Yachting.Rent, we understand the nuances of sailing and aim to provide our patrons with insights that ensure their nautical adventures are not just memorable but tailored perfectly to their vision. In the heart of this endeavor is the age-old question: to opt for a sailing boat or a catamaran when exploring the waters of Galveston?
The traditional sailing boat, with its single hull and iconic silhouette, is a symbol of classic maritime elegance. As you hoist its sails and catch the Gulf winds, the boat responds with an intimate connection to the water, offering a tactile feel of the waves and currents beneath. This close communion with the sea allows sailors to truly immerse in the rhythms of the ocean. For those seeking a more authentic and hands-on sailing experience, where the art of navigation and seamanship plays a pivotal role, sailing boats are the vessels of choice. Their sleek design allows for deft maneuvers, especially when navigating through Galveston’s myriad of islands, bays, and inlets. Additionally, the deep keel of these boats provides stability, making them ideal for ventures further into the Gulf, where waters can be more unpredictable.
On the other hand, catamarans, with their twin hulls and expansive decks, offer a different kind of maritime allure. Their design inherently provides more stability, significantly reducing the rolling motion commonly experienced on monohulls. This makes catamarans an excellent choice for those who prioritize comfort or are new to the world of sailing. The wide deck space is perfect for sunbathing, social gatherings, or simply relishing the panoramic vistas of the Texan coastline. The shallow draft of catamarans also presents an advantage when exploring Galveston’s coastal regions, allowing sailors to anchor closer to beaches or navigate shallower waters with ease. Additionally, catamarans often come equipped with modern amenities, ensuring that luxury and comfort are not compromised, even in the heart of the sea.
Given the contrasting attributes of both vessels, the choice truly hinges on the kind of maritime experience one seeks in Galveston. For the purists, who yearn for the age-old dance between wind, sail, and sea, the sailing boat is a canvas that allows them to paint their nautical tales. For those seeking a blend of adventure and relaxation, where the journey is as luxurious as the destinations explored, the catamaran stands as a floating oasis of opulence and comfort.

Burial Ceremony at Sea
Man has marveled at the world’s great seas since the beginning of time. The sea’s peace and tranquility, power and glory, have brought comfort and joy to mankind. Always changing yet timeless, the world’s seas are a final resting place for generations.
The scattering of cremated remains at sea has been an attractive alternative to other forms of internment for many reasons – affordability, return to nature, love of the everlasting sea, wishes of the deceased, nautical background or experiences, conservation of land space, and other frequently cited reasons for selecting sea scattering for the final disposition of cremated remains. Aqua Safari Charters, LLC. has been providing this service to many families since the 1990’s.
For burial at sea, Aqua Safari Charters, LLC. can provide two types of services:
Attended Services
Many families desire our exclusive charter service with a journey from port with family and friends. This sea voyage provides a special opportunity for remembrance and perhaps a special memorial service ceremony.
Our 42 foot boat, the “Island Girl” can accommodate intimate groups of up to 18 people and is Coast Guard Certified and Inspected. The size and design of this boat makes for a very stable vessel and comfortable cruise. We cruise from Galveston’s Pier 19 area out of Galveston Island Harbor, through Galveston Bay, out through the Galveston Jetties and into the Gulf of Mexico.
At a dispersal site, usually up to 3 miles of the jetties, the Captain will position the vessel at rest for the scattering of ashes. If you like, cut flowers may be brought to scatter and the Captain will record the exact GPS coordinates of the dispersal site and and provide a signed letter of documentation for you. This location can be used if a revisit is desired. Time from departure to return to our dock is usually less than 2 hours. All inclusive price for the 42 ft. “Island Girl” is $650 (Monday – Thursday), and $750 (Friday- Sunday). Farther voyages may be requested at an additional cost.
Unattended Services
Some families do not wish to attend a sea service or cannot go to sea for a variety of reasons. We can take the cremated remains into the sea for you. A dignified burial at sea within 30 days will be performed and the Captain will record the exact GPS coordinates of the dispersal site and provide a signed letter of documentation for you. This is a popular service with prices beginning at $300 depending on the site selected and will usually be completed within 30 days of receipt of the cremated remains at our office.
The choice of funeral arrangements and crematory can be made at your convenience with your funeral director. You may have your funeral director contact us directly or you may call us at 409-795-7480 .

Damage in parts of Galveston Co. was consistent with straight-line winds up to 75 mph, NWS finds
GALVESTON COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- Damage in Galveston County was consistent with straight-line winds up to 75 mph, the National Weather Service preliminarily assessed hours after storms blew through southeast Texas.
The findings were part of a storm damage survey in the northern part of the coastal county
The NWS found similar damage in western Harris County consistent with an EF1 tornado, a short track with 90 mph winds.

ABC13 viewers shared that areas including Bacliff, League City, Dickinson, and San Leon were slammed with winds and heavy rain.
One resident in San Leon said her whole yard "has been turned upside down," and her gazebo is out of place, now lying along a back fence.
"We have an awning that was rolled up, ripped up off of the RV. I mean, it was brutal," Heather Stevens told ABC13. "Probably around 4:20 a.m., give or take, RV started shaking real hard, violently, and all of a sudden light show, beyond belief."
Stevens said light poles are tilted, stop signs are sideways, trees are down, and dumpsters are knocked over.
In the Mariner's Cove community of San Leon, another neighbor said it felt like his house was shaking.
"Looked outside my window, I had a flag pole that has withstood 75 mph (winds) in the past, and it was bent way over. A few minutes later, it was gone," Michael McNeley described. "A few minutes later, I look and the railing of the third deck is missing."
A gas meter was also damaged, McNeley said, adding that he heard the gas spewing out and called 911 and the gas company.
Meanwhile, in Bacliff, resident Jason Puryear said he woke at about 4:30 a.m. to crashing and a hail storm. He ended up with a smashed roof and meters ripped off the side of his house.
"I don't think I'll be leaving anytime soon," Puryear said. "My bedroom's right in front of where the car's at. About two more feet, and I would've been sleeping for the rest of my life."
Like in previous storms, neighbors banded together quickly to start recovering and cleaning up.
"We're a tight-knit community. When neighbors need help, we all pitch in and help out. Probably going to break out chainsaws in a minute and help out," Leah Gallaway said, adding that her neighbors, an older couple, were affected by the storm.
"These are my neighbors, Virgil and Linda. We came out to inspect everything. They're in their 70s, 80s. Virgil's blind or almost blind, so we wanted to come over and make sure they're OK," she said.
As people cleaned up, those with students in Dickinson still had to send them to class.
The district said schools would be open Wednesday.
