Enjoying a full tour of the 63m (207ft) IRIMARI at the 2019 Monaco Yacht Show, YachtCharterFleet took a second look at a modern superyacht with a glowing charter reputation.
Stepping on board IRIMARI in Monaco wasn’t our first time getting up close and personal with this Sunrise-built superyacht. But this time, we toured her with a fresh pair of eyes in order to discover what makes this yacht such a successful charter platform.
Launched by Turkish shipbuilder Sunrise in 2015, IRIMARI made her world debut in Monaco in the same year and entered the world of private yacht charter in the months following.
She hasn’t appeared at a public yacht show since then, but she has remained a popular charter yacht that has been well-maintained over the years, most recently with a refit in 2019.
Part of her success can be attributed to her Owner’s approach to her design. He was clear in what he wanted; a comfortable, family-orientated yacht with nothing ostentatious or gaudy- just livable spaces with a heavy focus on the alfresco lifestyle.
But apart from that, IRIMARI is a yacht which has character, with surprising quirks and interesting touches that set her apart from the crowds.
These are lines I like. I very much like these ample glass surfaces and beautiful views from inside. Espen Oeino
The yacht’s exteriors come from Espen Oeino, and timeless is truly the best word to describe them. Styled over five years ago, her profile still looks modern and bold.
“These are lines I like,” Oeino stated at the time of her delivery, “I very much like these ample glass surfaces and beautiful views from inside.”
The owner wanted a comfortable, family-orientated yacht with nothing ostentatious or gaudy- just livable spaces with a heavy focus on the alfresco lifestyle.
Her interiors meanwhile, have been helmed by German studio Focus Yacht Design. They are an exercise in understated elegance and subtlety, with an overarching warmth and welcoming ambience.
Our tour begins on the upper decks, giving us the chance to explore IRIMARI's exterior decks first, before finishing in the lower deck beach club.
Sunbathe and socialise: the fly deck and sundeck
Crowning the yacht is a fly deck, a unique little area that offers an intimate alternative to the yacht’s other alfresco deck areas.
It lends itself perfectly to a morning yoga session or a quiet cup of coffee, but the sleek bar and sofa seating ensures it’s equally well-suited to evening entertainment. While compact, we’re told the space is popular among charter guests looking for a secluded spot to enjoy cocktails and conversation.
The fly deck overlooks the sundeck below, which has been carefully considered to strike a balance between indoor and outdoor living. Forward, you’ll find a glass-fronted spa pool occupying an elevated position. Sunpads spread out on either side, and in-water seating is located inside the pool itself.
The sundeck is a social and convivial area that serves as the hub of the yacht during the day and in the evenings.
Aft of the pool is a shaded alfresco deck, with a seating area and coffee tables to starboard and a marble-topped wet bar lined by barstools to port. It's a social and convivial area that serves as the hub of the yacht during the day and in the evenings.
Soft furnishings contribute to a relaxed ambience and glass bulwarks encircle the entire forward portion of the sundeck, acting as a windbreak and allowing for unobstructed views over the surroundings. This part of the sundeck also enjoys a private forward-facing position that comes in handy when the yacht is in port.
Fun and games in the sundeck lounge
The sundeck is divided by a games lounge, which marks a great use of space that’s designed to maximise convenience and comfort. It features a variety of seating areas and entertainment options for guests looking to escape the heat and cool off inside.
There’s a games table with sofa seating, as well as a dayhead and a second bar with marble flooring. Sky blue is the colour of choice here, and it works in harmony with the blondewood and the views that flood in from the curved windows.
To starboard, a window ledge with built-in recliners offers a serene spot for relaxing and enjoying the views while underway.
Here, guests can stretch out on sunloungers or curl up in rotating nest chairs, with optional shade from hanging parasols.
Stepping out onto the sundeck aft, guests will find a sweeping stretch of deck that's dedicated to relaxing and soaking up the sun. Here, guests can stretch out on sunloungers or curl up in rotating nest chairs, with optional shade from hanging parasols.
The entire sundeck has been designed to be versatile, with enough space to accommodate the entire charter party and enough facilities to make it enjoyable at any hour of the day.
Drinking and dining alfresco
The upper deck plays host to the yacht’s alfresco dining, which is shaded and has the capacity to seat 14 guests in total.
The dining area is adjoined by a pair of seating areas immediately aft. They feature wraparound sofa seating, optional parasols and teak coffee tables finished with vases of flowers.
It’s easy to picture charter guests enjoying an aperitif overlooking the sunset from here, before sitting down to dinner at the dining table.
The upper deck also boasts a quad of sunpads and a circular glass segment in the deck that shows off a gold plate with a model sketch of IRIMARI.
It’s easy to picture charter guests enjoying an aperitif overlooking the sunset from here, before sitting down to dinner at the dining table.
The main deck volunteers an additional seating, with sofa seating hugging the aft deck with a coffee table at the centre. It’s a great spot to enjoy while the yacht is at anchor, offering views over the beach club and swim platform below.
Main salon and formal dining
Stepping into the main salon via the aft deck, guests are welcomed into a world of light and colour.
The formal dining arrangement is positioned forward, making it the centrepiece of the salon- which seems fitting, since the eye is immediately drawn to the table.
The tabletop is made from Murano glass that catches the light from the tiered copper fixture above, with a lacquered burgundy frame and copper base that works in harmony with the light fixture.
It offers seating for up to 10 guests, and its forward positioning means that guests can enjoy meals while still feeling connected to the exterior decks and lounging area. It’s another deviation from the norm that makes IRIMARI unique.
Rich gold and Royal blue add an ornate accent to the contemporary design.
Surrounding the dining area, statuettes handcrafted in obsidian and serpentine introduce some depth and dimension.
The entire salon has a great sense of space, thanks to wide windows, discreet light panels and glossed surfaces. Rich gold and Royal blue add an ornate accent to the contemporary design.
In the lounge, sumptuous sofas are arranged around a wide-screen television with a handmade, intricately patterned rug stretching out underfoot.
Rugs are a common theme on board the yacht. But rather than looking fussy, Focus has managed to achieve a warm and homely ambience while still maintaining signature superyacht sophistication.
The staircase is one of IRIMARI’s most unique features. It nods to marine themes, with a kelp forest pattern sculpted into the black material. A champagne carpet and discreet lighting panels create an interesting contrast and illumination.
The stairs wrap around a video wall, which adds a sense of motion and flow. Standing 16-foot high, the HD screens display a soothing blue bubble design.
Movie nights in the upper deck lounge
The upper deck lounge shares a similar style to the main salon; but this space is catered towards family time and unwinding.
Sturdy sofas invite guests’ to kick back and turn their attention to the 92 inch TV screen. Blackout panelling and surround sound make for the ultimate cinema experience- perfect for movie nights at sea.
While the upper deck lounge bears all the hallmarks of a home theatre, it’s not dark or gloomy. It’s a very chic space, with navy blue furniture contrasted by crisp cream carpets and a baby grand piano in the corner.

Access to the accommodation is provided by a glass partitioned sliding door to starboard.
Accommodation
Accommodation is offered for a total of 12 guests in six cabins.
The owner's cabin takes oceanic design cues, with crimson coral print and a shoal of gold fish on the headboard above the bed.
Located on the main deck forward, the owner’s cabin spans the full beam of the yacht. It's adjoined by a VIP twin cabin, allowing the principal charterer to be easily connected to one of their guests. This design element works well for parents wanting to remain close to their children at nighttime, and showcases IRIMARI’s versatility and family-focused layout.
The owner's cabin takes oceanic design cues, with crimson coral print and a shoal of gold fish on the headboard above the bed. A sofa and seating area can be found to port and starboard, alongside oversized windows that drench the space in light during the day. A halo of honey-toned light on the ceiling imparts a warm glow after dark.
The owner’s cabin is adjoined by a VIP twin cabin, allowing the principal charterer to be easily connected to one of their guests.
The main cabin has a seamless connection to a large en-suite bathroom, with Calacatta-style marble floors, a large tub and dedicated his and hers heads and sinks. Guests can also make use of his and hers closets.
Aft of the owner’s cabin, the principal charterer can take care of any work in an elegant private office, or indulge in a massage in the treatment room. The treatment room is a relaxing, spa-style space with a mirrored wall and ebony wall panels that reflect the light.
The adjoining VIP cabin is well-appointed, with an en-suite bathroom and a soft blue colour palette. The curvaceous windows that are present across the yacht also feature here.
The remaining four cabins can be found on the lower deck. All of them benefit from en suite facilities and closets, and all of them are twins with the capacity to function as doubles depending on the configuration of the charter party.
Two of the cabins can also serve as private lounges, thanks to sliding doors which merge the cabins together. This design is excellent for smaller charter parties looking for additional space, and adds another bathroom for guests to make use out of.

The cabins have a clean, comfortable and modern finish. They enjoy soft furnishings, a neutral colour palette and the latest entertainment and technology, including a large TV screen. Plenty of natural light ensures that guests can wake up to breathtaking views every morning.
One of IRIMARI’s most eye-catching features is her beach club- and it’s also one of the most-used spots on board.
The beach club is drenched in light thanks to a fold-out swim platform and a sea terrace to starboard. The space offers a convivial seating area, a dayhead and gym equipment overlooking the water.
Steps leading to the ocean from the swim platform make it easy to access the water and make use of IRIMARI’s water toys. The sea terrace meanwhile, acts as a lovely balcony space where guests can recline in sun loungers and relax while dipping their toes in the sea.
Toys and accessories
Charter guests of all ages will love IRIMARI’s locker of toys and accessories, which includes Seabobs, paddleboards, kayaks and inflatable toys including a water slide, a 3-person Kickflip, a tube and floating pool.
For more on-the-water action, she also offers Wakeboards, Seadoos and Superjet jet-skis. In terms of tenders, she provides a 8.5m custom limousine tender and a 7m Novurania LX Sport Tender.
After our tour, it's easy to see why IRIMARI is such a sought-after superyacht. Her alfresco areas have been thoughtfully designed with the modern charter guest in mind, and her interiors have placed comfort and warmth at the forefront.

IRIMARI Enquiry
"People who charter a yacht tend to want as many experiences as they can in a short space of time. It’s essentially a vacation in compressed format, so the yacht needs to collaborate with you in that. You need lots of different places to eat on board, so every day offers something different. The yacht also needs to make getting ashore easy, for meals on the beach and excursions, so it feels like you never do the same thing twice." - Espen Øino

Sunrise Irimari Yacht Review: Turning up the Volume
Launched in 2015, the 63m custom motor yacht Irimari was built in 2015 by Sunrise Yachts. The yacht features exterior design by the designer Espen Oeino, while her interior was created by the studio Focus Yacht Design
Leaving the beautifully appointed headquarters of Sunrise, we head down with its majority shareholder Herbert Baum to check out Irimari yacht on the water just a few hundred yards away. ‘I’m certainly still enjoying the process of yacht building,’ Herbert says as we pull up to the dock. ‘Though it’s a long process, for a ‘non-native shipbuilder’ to see designs and metal plates transform into a finished yacht is so incredibly satisfying.’
On board the new Sunrise Irimari
Herbert’s enthusiasm is infectious as we admire the profile of Sunrise Yachts Irimari as she sits shimmering on the dock. Angular lines meld with the softer dome of her superstructure with enough juxtaposition to avoid complete masculinity and create an androgynous aesthetic. From the dock we noted the oversized portholes on the lower deck are exaggerated even further on the main deck, hinting at spectacular views from the on-deck master staterooms that made us eager to explore further.
As Irimari yacht was berthed alongside, we boarded via the starboard shell door that lowered to create a huge over-sea terrace and revealed an open-air waterfront gym. Small details like the heated mirror in the accompanying head to prevent fogging indicate Sunrise’s particular attention to detail.
Occupying center stage of the engine room itself are the twin MTU 12V 4000-series M63 power units, driving Sunrise Yachts Irimari to a top speed of 16-knots. Carefully arranged around the remaining space to allow easy access are supplementary systems like the triple GMPP 220kW generators and an 110kW emergency generator from the same company. Making our way up into the cockpit we take a moment to check out the decking, only to discover it is not teak, as it would appear to the casual observer, but a resin compound that mimics teak.
Irimari’s interior
‘We tested several different deck options, including real teak, synthetic teak and this compound,’ explains Herbert. ‘We discovered that this solution remains coolest when exposed to direct sunlight, is easiest to maintain and is a very cost-effective method.’
From the oversized cockpit one enters… OK, before we enter the main salon and cover the yachts interior I need to make one thing clear. Throughout the remainder of the feature you need to take it as read that the interior proportions of Sunrise Yachts Irimari are like nothing else you’ve experienced on a yacht of this length. The owner’s suite in particular is so vast that, unless one is chronically claustrophobic and usually resides in a stadium, I really couldn’t fathom why one would need a larger space.
Anyway, in the generously proportioned salon the surrounding scenery pours in through the floor to ceiling glazing and one can only imagine the impact when the yacht is anchored in a more salubrious and scenic environment. Guest accommodation on the lower deck is arranged around the central lobby with double cabins to starboard and twins to port.
The twins are convertible into doubles by sliding the beds together and both feature Pullman bunks, making it a versatile arrangement ideal in charter situations. The level of completion in the guest cabins is excellent and demonstrates quality and forethought with high-end fittings. Moving up the bridge deck we once again find the level of facilities one would expect on a yacht of considerably longer length. Aft of the main deck one finds Irimari’s upper salon and cinema that again features floor to ceiling glazing.
Custom motor yacht with beach club
When the party really gets going however, the aft deck terrace with its large bar, al fresco dining and wide-open space with deep comfortable deck furniture is the place to be, before perhaps heading up to the sundeck. The sundeck is… well, of Sunrise Yachts Irimari proportions! Subtly divided between five different zones the entire compliment of guests, and their guests, can find space to sunbathe, dine, swim, lounge, take coffee, shower, belly-up to the bar or flop on a sunpad–all at the same time.
With access behind the bar directly into the crew access that runs from the main to sundeck on the portside, service has been carefully considered on this yacht too. Happily, concealed under the foredeck, Sunrise Irimari carries two personal watercraft, two SeaBobs and the rescues tender to compliment the primary tenders found in her garage. While sitting on the sundeck I muse over Irimari’s interior.
While the completion level is uncontestably to a very high standard and some of the details like etched glass, cross-stitched leather panels, copper inserts, lighting and the screens in the stairwell atrium are both innovative and truly enchanting, it is probably fair to say that it doesn’t meet the uber-decadent feel of extraordinary yachts like Kismet, Solandge and some of the launches by Oceanco, Heesen and Feadship.
Having completed our tour I asked Herbert what were the major challenges and advancements Sunrise had made as a turkish shipyard in the build of Irimari and he was happy to fill me in on some detail. ‘In engineering terms the bow thruster unit we used on this project was new for us as it is the Epod system, so the electrical motor is inside the hub itself. This system is considerably quieter and the water around the unit absorbs vibration. It all helps moving forward as our next project, Hull 561, is the 187’ (57m) diesel-electric, so in one way the bow-thruster contributed experience in preparedness for that. Finally, the huge amount of full height glazing on Irimari required engineering solutions we’d not encountered before on this scale and these create challenges too.’
As we leave Irimari yacht, Herbert joins me in taking one last glance back at her as the sun sets over Sunrise’s latest launch. ‘You know,’ sighs Herbert almost ruefully, ‘it is times like this I almost regret not owning my own yacht again.’ It was a sentiment we shared. If owning Sunrise Yachts Irimari were an option, it would certainly be one we’d consider seriously.
