Saint Maxime is a pretty town facing St Tropez across the bay. The mountains of the Maures protect it from winds and with a small port and a pretty town make it a popular yachting location. St Maxime got its name in the 11th century, and has a number of prehistoric and Roman remains in the area.

St Maxime has many attractions as a yachting location like the clean beaches and harbour, ship chandlers and yachting boutiques, a number of small specialised food stores and wine merchants amongst the old cobbled streets of the town. Yachting in this part of the Mediterranean is popular because the Gulf of St Tropez offers protection from the strong north westerly winds of the mistral and tremontane. The port lie directly opposite the port of St Tropez. There are regular ferry services as well as private water taxi's to take visitors across the bay. It is by far the most sensible option as there is plently of good parking around the port of St Maxime. The port is well protected but its moorings are for yachts under 30m. This area has long been a place that has attracted both artists and poets alike due to the extremely mild climate and its beautiful location. One such famous novalist who lived here for many years was Jean de Brunhoff who wrote the Barbar the Elephant children's novels. The beach in one of the series is mentioned and is known as the Plage des Elephants (Elephant Beach). The beaches along the coast are excellent, golden sands and well manicured with small snack bars set back amongst the leafy promenade. In particular the beach known as the Croisette Beach and La Nartelle which can be found to the west of the town. To visit the botanical gardens you will need to travel about 1 km southwest from the town center, just past the Croisette Beach. Entrances to these gardens are free and they are open from 08.00 until 17.00hrs. There are many interesting species of trees and bushes and its large shady walks, with wooden benches make a refreshing retreat from the hot summer sun. There are picnic areas as well as a play ground for small children. The history of the town dates back to the 11th century, with some fine examples of the medieval period of the 15th and 16th century seen in the chateau and the fort of the tour Carr�e, which was built by the Monks of the Islands of Lerins off Cannes . When they came and settled here they converted the town to Christianity. Outside of the town heading west approximately 2km at San-Sebastien and Haute-Suzanne there are examples of prehistoric settlements in the form of dolmens and a granite menhir. From La Nartelle heading northeasterly for about 3km are remains of Roman thermal baths. This area was a good trading place at this time for trading the local olives, oil and wine. As a holiday yachting destination there is just about every type of water sport to try like scuba diving, sailing, wind surfing, and for those wishing to leave the yacht for a while there is mountain biking, horse riding and mountain walking excursions to try. To the north of the town there is clay pigeon shooting as well as an 18 hole golf club with hotel restaurant and tennis. The Aqualand at Les Bosquets with it numerous watershoots is a great day out for the kids and adults alike. St Maxime is a yachting location that will fulfil the whole family's needs.

With its dynamic marina, Sainte-Maxime is a very popular seaside resort. It backs onto the Massif des Maures, a vast wooded area thanks to the surrounding hills. The largest city in the Gulf, Sainte-Maxime is welcoming and lively throughout the seasons.

THE SEA TO INFINITY

Coming from Les Issambres, the eye is captured by the incredible beauty of the blue immensity. The waves first border a steep coast before reaching the sand of La Nartelle, a beach very popular with lovers of water sports and swimming. At its end, Pointe des Sardinaux, a protected natural site, faces its beacon at sea, a renowned diving spot. The three bends that follow concentrate all the beauty of the Côte d’Azur: magnificent umbrella pines clinging to the cornice… There are barely a few hundred meters left before reaching the marina over which the bell tower watches over. ‘church. Just a stone’s throw away is the beautiful city center beach. After crossing the bridge and its bow-string arcades, then crossing the nautical club, you will discover the attractions of the Croisette beach: on the port side, head for a carpet of soft pebbles, on the starboard side, long live the warm sand . Departure from Simon-Lorière promenade. Avenue Général-de-Gaulle, take Quai Condroyer on the right (statue by Maximois sculptor Jean Portal.) to go to the harbor master’s office (architecture reminiscent of a ship). Return via the shopping arcade, cross avenue du Général-de-Gaulle. The Square Tower, the oldest building in the city. Opposite is the church (its main altar and the campanile). Go up rue Jean-Aicard then rue Paul-Bert, Montée de la Résistance to the covered market. Market Square (fountain, by sculptor Gérard Zislin). Go down rue Courbet then rue and place des Sarrasins. Continue to Place Louis Blanc, rue de Verdun, avenue Jean-Jaurès in the city center. Avenue De Lattre-de-Tassigny. Casino Beach (stele commemorating the Landing in Provence, seaside gardens, Simon-Lorière promenade.

A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY

The town owes its name to an 8th century Provençal nun, mother superior of the Callian monastery. This saint is celebrated every year in May during a bravado. Depopulated in the Middle Ages, a repopulation project undertaken by the monks of the Thoronet Abbey, lords of the place, in the 16th century failed and it was in the 18th century that Sainte-Maxime developed through the construction of houses on the banks. of the sea: the embryo of the village and the current port. The railway line linking Toulon to Saint-Raphaël at the end of the 19th century enabled its economic and touristic expansion.

• Visiting Sainte-Maxime means strolling along the recently renovated seafront avenue to go shopping, enjoy an ice cream or have a drink on the terrace. For a cultural trip, do not hesitate to pass through the old town, appreciate the architecture of the interwar period (several buildings have the label “Remarkable contemporary architecture”). • Take advantage of this getaway to smell the scents: spices, fresh fruits and vegetables, cold meats, flowers from the Provencal market or the covered market. Rather fish, go to the port to the fishermen’s stall, rather flea market, head for the seaside promenade. You want to relax, head to the Myrtles botanical garden; and right next to the seaside: swimming, relaxing, the dream!

The sainte maxime yacht club is part of the maritime tradition that has linked the inhabitants of maxime to the sea since the first inhabitants of calidianisi settled in one of the most beautiful bays on the coast..., our goal is to bring together the boaters of the port of sainte-maxime in order to promote the practice of boating and to develop the spirit of it..

We will also represent our members with the port and municipal authorities of the town of Sainte-Maxime.

Finally, we will organize nautical and convivial events such as rallies or nautical outings, nautical competitions, fishing or convivial evenings.

Our activities and actions will help promote boating, strengthen solidarity between our members and ensure the defense of their interests.

We want our members to want to get together at the nautical events we organize: group outings or cruises, rallies, fishing competitions, parties, meals or any other occasion that creates a warm atmosphere.

Interview du navigateur Marc Pajot, membre du Yacht Club de Sainte Maxime.

Marc Pajot was silver medallist at the 1972 Munich Olympics at the age of 19, five times world champion, crewed by Éric Tabarly and winner of the Route du Rhum in 1982. He was also a two-time America's Cup semi-finalist as skipper. Based in Saint Tropez for many years now, he now sells yachts and advises on marina construction and development. After a presentation of our Yacht Club, and in particular our desire to promote an eco-responsible approach to yachting, he became an Honorary Member. We welcome him and look forward to listening to and discussing with this "Giant of the Seas" at one of our next meetings...

A great success for the launch party of the 2024 season!

The evening organized to mark the launch of the Yacht Club's 2024 season was a real success.   With over a hundred people in attendance, including the mayor of Sainte Maxime Vincent Morisse, it was an opportunity to bring together port and municipal authorities, partners and, of course, Yacht Club members.

Numerous local partners, including Casino Barrière de Sainte Maxime, RC Marine shipyards, Accastillage Diffusion in Sainte Maxime and Bateau Ecole Azur, have joined the Yacht Club, offering significant advantages to their members.

Le dernier avantage en date est une voiture électrique mise à disposition du Yacht Club par la société Urban Connecty.

Les objectifs pour 2024 ont été présentés lors de la soirée, notamment l’ambition de rassembler plus de plaisanciers, de renforcer les animations, de structurer les partenariats et de participer à la renommée du port de Sainte Maxime en collaborant sur le projet de rénovation du port.
