Brand History

In 1977 Jack Leek launched Ocean Yachts with the company’s first boat — a 40′ sportfisherman to which our 25th anniversary New Generation 40 Super Sport paid tribute. But Jack was not the first Leek to build boats in New Jersey. In fact, Leeks have been building and launching them in the historic Mullica River since 1721.

Ocean’s heritage reaches as far back as the original American colonies. Leek-manufactured vessels helped develop our coastal and river trade, create a rich fishing industry, battle pirates and privateers, intercept rum runners during Prohibition and German U-boats in World War II. We can justly say that the Leek family’s involvement in the American maritime industry is as old as the industry itself. Today’s Ocean Yachts may have little in common with those early Leek vessels, or even with C. P.’s revolutionary Pacemakers. But they express — in fiberglass instead of wood — the same spirited determination to produce the highest quality yachts in the world.

Ocean Yachts main focus is delivering semi-custom yachts to their customers. Using unique building methods to build a strong, fast, safe, and seaworthy vessel that can be built faster than custom builders but still catering to each individual customer's needs. This approach has helped separate Ocean Yachts from the other builders, delivering the same family owned customer service that started several decades ago.

Ocean Yachts, a family-owned company, has been building high-performance sports fishing boats since its establishment in 1977. The company's roots originate from New Jersey, U.S.A, where it began with its founder Jack Leek. Leek, a boat builder and racer, started Ocean Yachts with an aim to set new standards for speed, performance and comfort in sportfishing and cruising yachts.Over the years, Ocean Yachts gained a reputation for designing and producing fast, luxurious and efficient vessels ranging up to 73 feet in size. Each boat produced entails the careful craftsmanship of skilled boat builders who take pride in attention to detail, innovative designs and high-quality construction. With their superior performance and speed, these boats quickly became the favourites of sportfishermen around the world.In 2017, after 40 years in the industry, Ocean Yachts sold their operations to Viking Yachts. Today, while the production of new Ocean Yachts has ceased, Viking continues to support Ocean Yacht owners through their Viking Parts and Service Department. As such, the legacy of Ocean Yachts as pioneers in the sportfishing boat industry persists on the waterways they once dominated.
