Her low draft of 1.14m/3'9" makes her primed for accessing shallow areas and cruising close to the shorelines. Her water tanks store around 528 Gallons of fresh water. She was built to RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) classification society rules.

New York real estate billionaire's $40M mega yacht anchored off Sanibel Island

A New York real estate billionaire's sleek mega yacht, the Silver Shalis, was spotted cruising Fort Myers Beach and anchored off Sanibel Island over the holiday weekend.

Built in 2010 by Delta Marine from a ship design by Langan Associates and interior by design house Jonathan Quinn Barnett, the 175-foot, 846-ton craft is owned by real estate tycoon Larry Silverstein.

The vessel, which can sleep 12 guests in six cabins and has a crew of 14 housed in seven cabins, has an annual running cost between between $2 million and $4 million.

The luxury mega yacht, sailing under the flag of the Marshall Islands, is valued by specialty yachting web sites at a whopping $40 million.

A  yacht tracking website placed the Silver Shalis just off the Sanibel Causeway near the Sanibel Lighthouse   on the east end of the island on Monday and early Tuesday. The vessel has been cruising the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic, visiting Fort Lauderdale at one port of call.

Sometimes, when not pressed into service, boats such as the Silver Shalis are rented out for charters. Such excursions cost from $200,000 to $400,000, or more, a week, according to yachtcharterfleet.com.

Silverstein, 90, CEO of Silverstein Properties in New York, has a net worth of $3 billion, also according to superyachtfan.com .

Dara McQuillan, media contact for Silverstein Properties, confirmed the yacht was the CEO's.

"He is visiting the southwest coast of Florida, and loves it there," she said. 

A lot has been written about Silverstein.

A 2017 article in the Baltimore Business Journal said his company bought the World Trade Center weeks before the 9/11 terrorist attacks destroyed the twin towers. The company rebuilt the complex that includes the Freedom Tower.

The company's most recent acquisition was a lower Manhattan apartment tower. Silverstein Properties purchased at 116 John St., a converted office tower in the Financial District, for $248 million, according to a company statement.

And on Jan. 10, Silverstein Capital Partners — Silverstein Properties’ real estate lending platform — closed on a $2 billion fund committed by its two existing and three new global institutional investors.

Contemporary M/Y Silver Fast the quick queen of Yachts Miami Beach

The 253-foot M/Y Silver Fast looks quick even while tied to the dock. The largest yacht at Yachts Miami Beach is also the world’s largest aluminium motor yacht with conventional propulsion.

And she is fast, said Capt. Mike Ebsworth. He and a crew of 15 brought the yacht from the shipyard in Perth, Western Australia in May of last year for the maiden voyage.

“It’s nice crossing oceans at 18 knots,” Ebsworth said today during an onboard tour to see the yacht’s contemporary and innovative designs.

“This yacht is brand new, it’s a different color, it’s a standout,” he said of the unique silver metallic paint. “It’s modern, contemporary and outside the box.”

The yacht’s 33-foot beam is narrow for its length and aircraft honeycomb materials in the construction keep the yacht light.

Talk of the yacht’s 4,500 nautical mile range at cruising speed of 18 knots, sparked Jr. Stew Caitlin Hayward to discuss her favorite thing about her job – the travel. I t took several minutes for her and the captain to run through where the yacht had visited.

“It’s been about 18 cities, nine countries, in six months,” Hayward said.

“Name them all,” Ebsworth prompted.

“Sri Lanka, Qatar, Abu Dhabi, Dubai,” he started.

“Oman, Egypt, Montenegro,” Hayward said.

“Monaco, France, Spain, Balearics, remember?,” Ebsworth said.

“I’d wake up in the mornings not knowing where we were,” Hayward said laughing.

After the show, the yacht has a few trips scheduled and then will be at the Palm Beach International Boat Show that runs March 17-20.

Chief Engineer Jozef Kosior has worked on many different vessels in his 40 years of sea service, but he said his favorite thing is the yacht’s design.

“She’s different,” Kosior said. “Others are almost the same, but you can spot her straight away.

“She’s a different technology, like a different generation of boat.

Captain Lazaro was Ana maxing captain, it was was Skye B day and he provided a bottle of champagne. He was excellent in communication and very safe. Will use him everytime I come back. Yenisley was also have great communication as well.

Our experience went swimmingly! Camila was fantastic, addressing all our questions with precision and ensuring we had all necessary details. Captain Joseph was equally impressive, being friendly, respectful, and an excellent leader. The boat was just the right size for our group of 10, and the water mat was a refreshing addition in the Miami heat. Would 100% recommend!

The award winning 64.5m/211'7" motor yacht 'Silver Angel' by the Italian shipyard Benetti offers flexible accommodation for up to 12 guests in 7 cabins and features interior styling by Argent Design.

From bow to stern, Silver Angel is brimming with an fantastic array of social and dining areas, both inside and out, making her the ideal yacht for relaxing and entertaining whilst on charter. She is equipped with beach club and gym.

Guest Accommodation

Built in 2009, Silver Angel offers guest accommodation for up to 12 guests in 7 suites comprising a master suite, one VIP cabin, three double cabins and two twin cabins. There are 10 beds in total, including 1 king, 4 queen and 4 singles. A crew of nineteen, who specialize in creating exceptional charters, are on hand to provide guests with a yacht charter vacation to remember.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

On your charter, you'll find plenty to keep you busy and entertained, particularly the pool, useful to practice your technique or just cool off. Even the most discerning of charter guests will enjoy the included beach club and in addition maintain your fitness routine and work out in the well-equipped gym. Silver Angel benefits from some excellent features to improve your charter, particularly Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to stay connected at all times, should you wish. You can stay comfortable on board whatever the weather, with air conditioning during your charter.

Performance & Range

Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she offers greater on-board space and is more stable when at anchor thanks to her full-displacement hull. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 13 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 16 knots with a range of up to 5,758 nautical miles from her 170,000 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. An advanced stabilisation system on board reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht and promises guests exceptional comfort levels at anchor or when underway.

Set against the backdrop of your chosen cruising ground, you and your guests can enjoy endless days of fun on the water with the exceptional collection of water toys and accessories aboard Silver Angel. Make diving a focal point of your charter vacation, with PADI certified professionals and a dive compressor available alongside traditional scuba diving equipment. Take to the sea on the Jet Skis offering you power and control on the water. Additionally, there are two waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. If that isn't enough Silver Angel also features a Kite Surfer, a seabob, wakeboards, kayaks, fishing equipment. Silver Angel has a 7.5m/24'7" Novurania Semi-Rigid Tender to transfer you from ship to shore.

Once you confirm your reservation, your broker will process your payment.

• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is confirmed more than 7 days in advance, a deposit of either $1,000 USD or 50% of the total cost of the reservation (whichever is greater) is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 7 days away, the remainder of the amount due is processed.
• If you are booking for a single day and your reservation is made 7 days or less in advance, the total price of your reservation is processed immediately.
• If you are booking for a multi-day charter and your reservation is confirmed more than 30 days in advance, a deposit of 50% of the cost of the yacht is processed immediately in order to hold the yacht. Once your embarkation date is 30 days away, the other 50% is collected for the price of the yacht, plus the APA, plus the taxes due.

Terms of refunds are dictated by the Charter Agreement. Generally, once a payment is collected, it is non-refundable. In certain circumstances, as dictated by the Charter Agreement, credits can be provided so you will be able to enjoy your yacht charter at a future date that is convenient for you.

If you are the type of RVer who is self-contained, self-sufficient and enjoy your privacy and independence, this park would be a good match for you. You don't go to Pier 95 RV Park for the social calendar (Bingo, Shuffleboard etc.) or a public swimming pool/hot tub, you stay there for the elbow room, privacy and incredible private access to an amazingly beautiful section of the Colorado River. (And if you're into it, doesn't hurt that you are very close to Laughlin, NV, where you will find all the partying hoo-ha you can handle.) In addition, there is a gas station and mini-mart type store directly across the street and a very short walk to a friendly neighborhood bar. (Plenty of restaurants and stores nearby - including a Walmart.) It would be nice if they had a laundry room (in fact it's odd that they don't have one), but there is a laundromat next to the Safeway market about 1.5 miles down the road. (They also have a fee-based laundry/wash/fold service.) The park's grounds are clean and tidy, and the spaces are quite roomy. Walk down to the river in a quick minute, pull up a lounge chair under a huge shade tree and enjoy a beverage while watching the wildlife: Herrin, Osprey, Geese, Ducks, Hawks, Owls and more. (Great photography opportunities!) Fish, swim, kayak and enjoy beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Decompress! It's a dog friendly RV park and there are huge dog friendly parks very close by - also on the river where your dogs can swim and frolic. Pier 95 is truly a hidden gem for people who appreciate a more unique and relaxing environment.

We loved this place! The owners were super nice and friendly. The camping spot was beautifully groomed. There is a cute little spot to enjoy the water with a few chairs set up. We definitely would recommend this place.

I drove through there checking it out for friends who are coming and want to be on the Colorado River. There was only 3-5 trailers in the whole place. They have absolutely no amenities, No Restrooms or Showers, No Pool or Hot Tub, No Laundry, No Market, I looked at the boat launch an you would have to have a tiny boat it is not a launch I would use. Without a doubt the worst park I have seen here in Bullhead!!! I did find a place for my friends down the street called Davis Camp (Mohave County Park) That's where I would suggest

The owners of this establishment take very good care of the property and it's surroundings. They are constantly doing upgrades and are very friendly. The walk to the river is less than 1 minute from your rig. The sunsets are beautiful. This place is a hidden gem.

This park is very friendly & accommodating. Very clean & in short walking distance down to the Colorado River. Very affordable. Thanks for welcoming us in. We would definitely recommend to others to stay here.

We love this park. John and Debra, the owners, are always helpful with whatever you need. Great river access and close to things to do. The only thing they need is a laundry room and it would be a 5 star park.

Jazz opera in Englewood celebrates Paul Robeson’s global impact

As a true renaissance man, Paul Robeson played on a founding team in the NFL, graduated from Columbia Law School, belted on Broadway stages and graced the silver screen.

But his activism was just as multifaceted as his entertainment career.

In addition to pushing for the civil rights of Black Americans, Robeson traveled the world and advocated for Welsh mine workers, supported the Republican faction in the Spanish Civil War, and condemned colonialism in Africa and Asia. His support of the Soviet Union ultimately led to his blacklisting and condemnation in the press.

“He used to be called ‘the citizen of the world,’” said Emmy-nominated poet and educator Lasana Kazembe. “Mary McLeod Bethune gave him the nickname ‘the tallest tree in our forest.’ … He was a beloved figure, and easily the most important person of the 20th century.”

Kazembe is attempting to capture Robeson’s life and impact as a “global icon for freedom” with his jazz poetry opera, “Paul Robeson: Man of the People.” Taking place Friday at Hamilton Park, the free, multimedia production features original poetry, operatic story songs, visual elements and an original score by saxophonist and musical director Ernest Dawkins. Vocalist Staci McCrackin and several wind, string and percussion players will perform alongside Dawkins and Kazembe, who also wrote the libretto.

The production made its debut on May 31 at The Cabaret in Indianapolis, where Kazembe is an artist-in-residence.

An Englewood native and professor of education and Africana studies at Indiana University Indianapolis , Kazembe has done similar productions about other Black figures, such as Richard Wright. He organized the Paul Robeson opera into six movements representing phases of the icon’s life, beginning with his birth in 1898 in Princeton, New Jersey.

Kazembe said he was intrigued by Robeson’s various “evolutions.” For example, after encountering racism at a law firm in New York City, Robeson pivoted to a career in the arts at the insistence of his wife, Eslanda. With a statuesque form and distinctive bass-baritone voice, Robeson garnered praise in stage and film productions of “Show Boat,” as well as in “Othello” on Broadway. Professional opportunities prompted him to move to Europe, where his passion for activism blossomed.

“He began to understand, ‘There’s more to what I’m doing than simply making a film or starring in a play,’” Kazembe said. “He began to understand the power of consciousness, and art as a revolutionary tool that can be used to educate, transform and move people.”

Kazembe’s opera also explores the backlash against Robeson, and incorporates audio from his famous 1956 testimony before the House Un-American Activities Committee, which questioned him about alleged ties to the Communist Party.

Tasked with weaving music throughout the multimedia production, Ernest Dawkins said he wrote musical sketches featuring elements of jazz, blues, classical, R&B and hip-hop. There’s even an interpolation of “Amazing Grace” in a minor key.

But audiences won’t hear “Ol’ Man River,” Robeson’s signature song from “Show Boat.”

“We’re threading our own tradition,” said Dawkins, of Englewood, who runs Live The Spirit Residency , which hosts the Englewood Jazz Festival. “We are creating a new lexicon.”

Working on the Robeson opera was a no-brainer for Dawkins, who has composed works about Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Emmett Till, Nelson Mandela and Fred Hampton.

He said he strives to educate as well as entertain.

“Who’s going to document our history if we don’t document our history?” Dawkins said. “Who’s going to tell our story if we don’t tell our own story? … When I go to Africa, they talk about the ancestors. We have ancestors here, but we have to [prop them up].”

Dawkins and Kazembe will keep celebrating Robeson’s legacy in the future; they hope to perform the opera in Africa.

“The single most important thing is that we put art in the world that is worthy of Mr. Robeson,” Kazembe said. “He is the standard.”

Simone Biles dominates as she wins her record-extending 9th all-around national title

(CNN) — Simone Biles won a record-extending ninth all-around national title at the US Gymnastics Championships on Sunday, impressing ahead of next month’s Olympics in Paris.

Biles finished with a combined score of 119.750 while Skye Blakely finished 5.900 points back in second and Kayla DiCello came in third. Suni Lee finished in fourth place and Jordan Chiles in fifth.

Biles dominated the event, turning in the top cumulative scores in the four events – balance beam, floor exercise, uneven bars and vault – despite a second day spill in the latter.

“Today it’s just getting out here and getting comfortable and confident in my gymnastics and hopefully going to Olympic trials and making that next step towards Paris,” Biles told the NBC Sports broadcast. “So, I couldn’t be more proud of how I’m doing this time in the year and just gaining that confidence over and over, getting myself back in front of a crowd and just doing what I do in practice.”

The national championships are the final event for US gymnasts before the Olympic Trials in late June. The women’s team to compete at Paris 2024 will be chosen after the Olympic Trials, with the winner of the all-around competition at the Trials automatically making the team.

Biles is aiming to edge closer to returning to the Olympics, the competition where she experienced the “twisties” – a mental block causing gymnasts to lose track of their body positions – at the Tokyo Games.

Biles was asked Sunday whether she is back to having fun with her gymnastics.

“Yeah, everyone says I look like I’m having fun so that’s good because I feel like most of the time if I’m not stressing or having anxiety, I do feel like I’m having fun,” Biles said. “So, it’s good to have that and feel that again.”

She took a two-year break from the sport afterwards to focus on her mental health but returned last year, sealing her comeback with a history-making performance at the world championships.

After winning a silver and four gold medals there, she became the most decorated gymnast ever, surpassing Belarusian Vitaly Scherbo’s record of 33 overall medals across both the Olympics and the world championships.

Dominant from the start The four-time Olympic gold medalist came into the second day of the senior women’s all-around competition in first place with an astonishing score of 60.450, more than three points ahead of second-placed Skye Blakely and third-placed Kayla DiCello.

And to underscore her dominance, Biles led the field on every apparatus after the first day. She started on the vault, executing a Yurchenko double pike and then a Cheng to finish with a 15.800.

Even though the uneven bars are considered Biles’ “weakest” event, she scored a 14.650 to extend her lead through two rotations. On her third rotation – the balance beam – Biles continued her stellar performance, finishing with a 14.800.

She finished the night on the floor, scored a 15.200 to solidify her lead, and went into the final day with a great chance to win yet another all-around national title, and further consolidate her status as the most decorated American gymnast ever.

Brody Malone is a multiple national all-around champ, too Meanwhile, in the men’s competition, Brody Malone took his third national all-around title on Saturday, completing his remarkable comeback from a serious injury last year that required several surgeries to repair torn ligaments and cartilage in his knee, as well as a fractured leg.

“It just feels amazing to be able to – with everything I’ve gone through – be able to come back and make a comeback like I have and be competitive enough to be on the top again,” Malone said afterwards, per the Olympics.

He also took the gold medal on the high bar, the apparatus on which he sustained his horrific knee injury and on which he became world champion in 2022.

Malone finished ahead of Frederick Richard, who also won on floor, and Khoi Young.
