General Arrangement and Interior design

Our work for the interior of a boat starts either with a General Arrangement previously made by the naval architect, or a concept from a design studio, or with a simple sketch from the yard or the developer of a project, which we will further develop into a more refined design. Either of these can come in form of classic 2D drawings or 3D set-up models. When neither of these are existing yet, we can be the ones to make the General Arrangement, or the 3D set-up, or a well defined design in close collaboration with the yard or client representative. In all the situations we take great care of the client’s desires, of the ergonomics and functionality aspects as well of the esthetic appearance.

General construction drawing and Cabin drawings

Sometime what it takes is a good layout drawing completed with longitudinal and cross-section views plus comprehensive details to be used throughout the boat. Styling and construction details are defined here, with indications about materials type, thickness, finish and wood grain orientation. Hardware to be used is indicated as well. For a better understanding of the ergonomics and the construction characteristics of a specific area, dedicated cabin drawings can be made with views and cross-sections plus details regarding walls elevation, furniture layout and ceiling construction.

Detailed 3D models

The interior layout takes shape in 3D, giving insight into the available space, cabins and items positions. You can go ether for a basic 3D model that will show the space allocation, or for a 3D fully detailed model where all the interior items are modeled by their exact final shape and position. A great deal of attention is paid to integrate the interior along the structural elements of the boat as well to make access for systems and equipment. The 3D accurate modeling is based on the General Arrangement drawing, or a basic 3D set-up plus the information derived from the project’s specifications. Everything is organized on separate units and at the end all the parts will be coded with names, material and finish markings.

yacht interior engineer

CNC files – Expansion and Nesting

Floor, ceiling, lining and furniture panels are nested efficiently in sheets of material, ready for CNC milling. All is based on expansions which are flat projections of all the parts, containing information about material type, thickness, finish, grain orientation plus it will include secondary operations like half-cut or drill and markings for post-cut operations. Using CNC kits significantly eases the production process. It saves time, materials and workforce, leaving little room for interpretation or error. All is done using our own, custom made plug-ins.

Workshop and assembly drawings

By clean 2D workshop drawings, we will provide all the information needed to assemble the parts resulted from the CNC milling and any other traditionally made parts like solid-wood profiles in order to individually create specific items of the interior. Additional post-CNC operations like half-cut or drill are specified, hardware to be used is indicated, as well details regarding joinery and furniture assembly for items like: cabinets, beds & sofas, walls & bulkheads, cabin doors, floors, lining & windows, ceiling. Details of how to assemble different parts of the interior together and on board the ship are also shown here. The solid-wood profiles will have a separate comprehensive drawing.

Sundeck of Revelry yacht by Verge Yacht Design

The rising interior design firm behind some of the latest eco-friendly superyacht refits

When turning superyacht dreams into reality, finding the right yacht designer is crucial. US-based Verge Yacht Design , founded in 2021 by principal interior designer Anita Rivera Turcotte, has quickly proven itself as a leader in the industry despite its relatively young age. The firm has already worked on an impressive array of projects, collaborating with renowned shipyards such as Feadship , Amels and Heesen , among others. Currently working on two new builds and two refits, with three additional refits scheduled for 2024-2025, Verge Yacht Design specialises in full-service superyacht interiors and personalised furnishings, all while being committed to using environmentally conscious materials in its work.

Bespoke superyacht interiors

At Verge Yacht Design, innovation is at the heart of every project. The firm collaborates closely with yacht owners and crew to create stylish and functional spaces that cater to the client’s lifestyle and taste. Verge is known for pushing the boundaries of traditional yacht design, offering creative and customised solutions that are truly one-of-a-kind. A hallmark of Verge’s approach is the incorporation of biomimicry, drawing inspiration from nature to enhance the design.

A prime example of Verge’s expertise is on board the 54.3-metre, Amels-built Revelry , which underwent an extensive eight-month refit at Thunderbolt Marine from May to December 2022. Verge Yacht Design led the complete interior transformation, which included bespoke furnishings, reupholstery, curated artwork, custom Roman sheers and blackout window shades, custom lighting and technical upgrades. The sundeck was also reimagined with an LED-backlit quartz bar top, bespoke seating, spatial reconfiguration, custom barware and a soft refit of the bridge deck and crew areas.

“Anita and the Verge team channelled their many high-end talents to produce a refitted interior beyond our owner’s dreams,” praises the captain. “From design to fit, Verge paired yacht practicality and sustainability into their aesthetic design. As with all projects, when challenges present themselves, it’s the commitment that excels a team to the finish line.”

Service that goes beyond design

Verge Yacht Design has significantly expanded its scope beyond yacht interiors to offer a full suite of services, including project management, furniture design and product engineering. The firm oversees every aspect of a project, from the initial design phase to final implementation, ensuring smooth execution through a trusted network of collaborators and vendors.

The studio’s designs are distinguished by their engineering precision. To bolster this technical expertise, Verge has been collaborating with renowned naval architect Nick Eremic on structural engineering. Eremic’s knowledge in engineering and construction ensures that superyacht concepts are both realistic and functional, while also facilitating an organised process for contractors during the build phase.

Eremic will be joining the Verge Yacht Design team on a full-time basis in September 2024. His expertise will enhance the firm’s capabilities, allowing them to offer 3D models and renderings, engineering drawings comprehensive project management services.

Leading the way in eco-friendly yacht design

Committed to staying at the forefront of eco-friendly innovation, Verge Yacht Design strives to integrate technologies and practices that minimise environmental impact into every aspect of its designs. The firm actively sources materials that reduce weight to lower emissions, as well as carbon-neutral decking and upcycled components.

A key focus for Verge is understanding the origins and production processes of the materials it uses to ensure they are environmentally certified. By selecting marine-grade materials that are reusable and biodegradable, particularly for closed-loop systems, Verge minimises environmental impact while adhering to the highest standards of sustainability.

Verge also prioritises the full lifecycle of each material, carefully evaluating its impact on the marine environment. This involves assessing energy consumption, waste production and the potential for recycling and reuse. Looking to the future, Verge considers the long-term impacts of its material choices, emphasising biodegradability, recyclability and positive end-of-life outcomes. But sustainability in yacht design at Verge extends beyond material selection. The firm also focuses on reducing its carbon footprint throughout the entire logistics and procurement process. This includes maintaining transparency in the supply chain, consolidating shipments, optimising routes, partnering with green carriers, and sourcing locally whenever possible.

Verge Yacht Design is currently developing a yacht-specific furniture line in collaboration with a luxury brand, as well as a marine fabric line, both set to launch in 2026. These exciting ventures position Verge as a brand to watch in the world of superyacht design.

The Master in Yacht Design offers the ideal educational path to become a Yacht Designer

The Master in Yacht Design offers the ideal educational path to become a Yacht Designer, by giving the necessary skills to deal with every stage of the design process – from the initial research and development of the concept to the actual construction of the interiors and exteriors and the validation of production processes in the boatyard.

In recent years, the nautical sector has expanded constantly, confirming its role as one of the drivers of Made in Italy design. Furthermore, and the new classic approach, based on naval architecture, is taking on an automotive oriented edge, which introduces new working standards and technical and style solutions borrowed from car design.

The vocation of the Piemonte area, which boasts a number of style centres and renowned companies in the land and sea transport sectors, as well as one of the world’s largest shipyards, combined with the short distance from the coast of Liguria, makes Turin the natural setting for a training course founded on the growing process of osmosis that links the yacht world and the automotive industry.

Information to decide

Methodology and structure.

The course is planned in levels, which begin with providing students with essential knowledge of the nautical sector, in terms of both cultural aspects and basic techniques. From there, students gradually acquire the skills connected with yacht design.

Starting from a study of the history and current scenarios of the nautical sector, students will go on to study the market and obtain more detail knowledge of the different types of boats. They acquire significant knowledge of materials, technologies and production methods, including through hands-on experience in a shipyard. They are provided with technical drawing and design tools, as well.

A further strength of this Master course is the fact that is delivered on two campuses, Turin and Venice. This offers participants a dual scenario, in which both cities represent an important aspect of the themes the course is focused on: the tradition of the automotive industry on the one hand, and the maritime vocation on the other.

The training course ends with a Thesis Project, developed on a brief given by a boatyard or a design studio.

Who is it for?

The admission of the Master is open to graduates in Architecture, Engineering and in the field of Design (Transportation, Interior, Product), as well as professionals in the sector seeking to apply their skills in this specific area.

7 Trends in Sailing Yacht Interior Design

There’s some irony when it comes to looking at the hottest interior design trends for custom sailing yachts: much of the inspiration for today’s designs draw from the past – combined with modern innovation.

Interior designs that emphasize simplicity, balance, and natural materials are hardly revolutionary.  Quite the opposite.  But there is a new take and balance between old and new, iconic and innovative, that seems to provide the perfect balance for creating incredible interior spaces.

We’re exploring the top 7 trends in custom yacht design for 2023.

Natural Light and Connection Between Interior and Exterior Spaces

The use of larger windows is a trend that has been gaining popularity in yacht design in recent years, as yacht owners increasingly want to maximize their views of the surrounding environment and bring more natural light into their living spaces.

One way that yacht designers are incorporating larger windows is by using high-strength glass materials that can withstand the harsh marine environment. For example, tempered glass or laminated glass with multiple layers can provide the necessary strength and durability to withstand the wind, waves, and impact from flying debris.

In addition to using strong glass materials, yacht designers are also using innovative engineering techniques to maximize the size and placement of windows. Lightweight structural materials such as carbon fiber and titanium in the yacht’s construction, allow for larger windows without compromising the yacht’s structural integrity. In the photo of ANNA, above, the white-painted transverse structural knees are part of a carbon fabrication that strengthens the cabin and carries the mainsheet loads while blending into the classic joinery.

M ulti Functionality and Flex Spaces

yacht interior engineer

The design for 68-ft CIRRUS comes from blending 40’s & 50’s era style. The large saloon is designed to provide long-term comfort and versatility with innovative vertical storage and a vaulted ceiling that includes panoramic angled glass as well as overhead skylights. Design by Stephens Waring under construction at Jim Betts Enterprises.

Owners are spending more time aboard their vessels and are adding to the list demands and programmatic needs. These include home-office, fitness centers, gourmet kitchens, and gathering places for family and friends to spend longer durations of time together.

Because space is at a premium on a yacht, designers are creating multi-functional spaces that can serve multiple purposes. For example, a seating area that can be converted into a bed or a dining table that can be lowered to create additional seating. Clever storage solutions are also being incorporated into yacht design to make the most of available space.

Old World Charm Meets Modern Sensibilities: Spirit of Tradition

yacht interior engineer

44-ft ITALMUS blends a 1940’s vernacular into the stylistic details and overall aesthetic of the yacht. The interior styling and design is aimed to mirror the era with a theme of highly crafted raised paneling and elegant joinery detail of select quarter sawn mahogany and finished in satin varnis.  Design by Stephens Waring, built by Van Dam Classic Boats. Photo credit: Billy Black

Yacht designers have always had a particular reverence for heritage and history.  The notion of heading out to sea conjures images of bygone eras past.  Capturing that essence requires a balance that avoids becoming kitsch or contrived.  While mid-century design may be considered the hot design trend of 2023, as designers steeped in a Spirit of Tradition design philosophy, we feel we’ve never left the genre.

Spirit of Tradition designs embody some historically identifiable link, particularly expressed in the shape and aesthetic exhibited in the design form of the hull and superstructure. Equally important, a Spirit of Tradition vessel must embrace modern development in materials, construction methods, mechanical systems and naval architecture science. Without the Spirit in development, we’re left with only Tradition.

Natural Materials

yacht interior engineer

Douglas fir deck beams, traditional raised and v-groove paneling, bright varnish and white painted surfaces make it a light, airy enclave.  Interior design by Martha Coolidge and Stephens Waring Design.  Boat construction by Lyman-Morse.  Photo credit: Alison Langley

Yacht owners by their very nature are drawn to water and the natural world, so it makes sense to incorporate natural elements such as wood, stone, and other organic materials in design. These materials create a sense of warmth and connect the interior spaces to the natural surroundings.

As experts in wooden boat design, we have long touted the benefits of timber for structural elements.  However, incorporation of hardwoods, as well as a growing trend in sustainable timbers, have become increasingly popular with owners looking to achieve aesthetic, durability, and sustainability objectives in interior design.

Other natural materials such as leather and wool are also being incorporated to add texture and comfort. These finishes not only look beautiful, but they are also durable to withstand the harsh marine environment.

The owner of Marilee (built in 1926) had the bold vision to create an interior that reflected the yacht’s century-long provenance while creating an open space below.  The team worked with Paul Waring of Stephens Waring Yacht Design, to create a traditional and properly constructed interior with an updated layout for relaxed, modern day use. The popularity of restomods has been well established in the world of classic cars, but it has only recently grown in popularity in the world of yachting. Fortunately, this is changing with plenty of success stories to point to.  Restomods are ideal for owners looking for cost-effective transformations that maintain sentimental connections to vessels and deliver stunning customized spaces that can be more cost effective than new custom builds. They are also popular with owners who inherit family boats, but need more utility and comfort for future generations.

Historical interiors often lack the ergonomics and amenities most owners seek today.  Good restoration projects embrace as much of the original charm and character of the original design as possible while improving comfort and livability.  Upgrades to electrical systems, electronics and navigation, plumbing and propulsion systems are low hanging fruit.  The interior design aesthetics requires a careful and complementary approach which honors the original character while updating comfort, utility, and aesthetics.

Flexible Spaces for a Crew Cabin

65-ft ANNA’s design includes a unique pocket door system.  The design provides an easy way to expand square footage when the cabin  is not needed or to private a comfortable extra cabin or crew quarters when extra hands or guests are aboard. Owners often struggle with the balance between the desire for a larger vessel with larger interior spaces and the challenge of maintaining a total vessel size (and cost) which is manageable.

As we get older the idea of managing and skippering our own vessel can come at the expense of enjoyment.  Hiring crew alleviates some of the operational challenges and burdens, but it also means sharing interior space with others.

Flexible crew cabins provide a cost effective way to optimize space for when crew is and isn’t aboard. One solution is the installation of pocket doors on sleeping quarters. This converts square footage from private berths (crew quarters) to main salon gathering space when doors are opened and transforms the space to private rooms for guests and crew when needed.

Smart technology

yacht interior engineer

Yacht owners are increasingly interested in incorporating smart technology into their vessels. This includes lighting, climate control, entertainment systems, and security features that can be controlled remotely. Smart technology allows yacht owners to control the environment on board and manage energy consumption more efficiently. It also adds an extra layer of security by allowing the owner to monitor their yacht from afar.

How Do I Become A Yacht Engineer – Qualifications and Requirements

If you are looking for a career as a yacht engineer, we’ve compiled a breakdown of the qualifications and requirements needed to start out, insight into the job day-to-day and how to effectively land your dream position.

What Does a Yacht Engineer do?

Depending on type, size and usage of the yacht, the Engineering department (be that a Sole Engineer or a department of 6 or more Engineers) are responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all mechanical, electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic and in some cases, structural systems and appendages found on board a modern yacht and superyacht.

Skills Needed to be a Successful Yacht Engineer

The role requires a keen eye for planning and organisation, as planned maintenance (carrying out preventative and explorative maintenance before failures occur) is a very important aspect in modern marine engineering. Skills in project management, resource allocation and time management are very desirable in addition to extensive and diverse technical ability. Many yachts employ software programs to aid a methodical approach to planned and preventative maintenance and to record failures and repairs as they occur as well as keeping an accurate inventory of spares held on board. Being able to efficiently use such software programs efficiently would be highly advantageous. Examples of these asset management programs are  AMOS  and  IDEA .

Challenges as an Engineer Onboard a Yacht

Engineering on a superyacht has particular challenges as some yachts (particularly charter yachts) can be very busy, meaning a very fast paced and demanding environment. High expectations from owners and guests in regards to service and entertainment also puts a keen onus on engineering departments to keep all systems working to minimise or eliminate down time and negative impacts on the itinerary. Of course, when the yacht is at sea, many of these systems are safety critical and break downs and failures offshore bring a whole new set of challenges and risks.

Which qualifications do I need to get in to superyacht engineering?

There are really two main entry routes in to yacht and superyacht engineering which follow two distinct certification pathways – entering from commercial shipping, or working through yacht-based certification routes.

Commercial Shipping Route of Training for Yacht Engineering

The Commercial Shipping route most commonly begins with a sponsored cadetship with a shipping company working in partnership with maritime training provider. Candidates must apply to one of a number of cadetship schemes and if accepted will undertake usually 3 years of study and work experience on the sponsoring companies’ vessels, culminating very often in the Officer of the Watch (Engineering) or ‘EOOW’ ticket and usually either an HND or BSc Degree in Marine Engineering or similar.

Once the EOOW certificate is in hand, candidates can be considered suitably qualified and experienced for junior engineering officer roles on large yachts. A common first yachting job for EOOW qualified candidates is 3 rd  Engineer. The main advantage of a cadetship is that seatime is gained quickly and on vessels over 3000 GT, allows for a ticket which is ‘unlimited’ by tonnage as all yacht engineering certificates are. This opens the door to working on the world’s largest mega and superyachts.

Also, the sponsoring company pays for all courses and examinations which would be extremely expensive if self-sponsored, and very often a small training bursary is paid on top (some as much as €11,000 / year). The biggest disadvantage is that candidates who ultimately want to work on superyachts will have to commit to different types of vessel for the duration of the cadetship – these are likely to be chemical tankers or containerships, but most of the large luxury cruise ship companies also offer cadetships which is in some ways closer to the yachting industry. One facilitator of maritime cadetships is the Warsash Maritime Academy –  see here .

Yacht Certification Route of Training for Engineering

This route is made up of 6 key certificates:

The Approved Engine Course (AEC)  – often seen as the base-minimum for superyacht engineers who wish to work on yachts over 24m LOA.  Usually a 4-day course covering the theory of compression-ignition (diesel) engines and includes a large amount of practical workshops.  View the full syllabus for the Approved Engine Course (AEC) . One common provider of AEC courses is Bluewater Yachting in Antibes –  see here .

The Marine Engine Operators Licence (MEOL)  – This is the first certificate in the yacht route that requires sea service, specific shore based learning and an oral exam.  View further details on MSN 1859 here .

Y4 Engineer  – The first of what is commonly referred to as the ‘Y Tickets’ – Y4 allows engineers to work as Chief Engineer on yachts between 200 and 500GT and up to 1500Kw in propulsive power.

Y3 Engineer  – Allows engineers to work as Chief Engineer on yachts up to 3000GT and up to 3000KW in propulsive power.

Y2 Engineer  – Allows engineers to work as Chief Engineer on yachts up to 3000GT and up to 6000KW in propulsive power.

Y1 Engineer  – Allows engineers to work as Chief Engineer on yachts up to 3000GT and up to 9000KW in propulsive power.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency have simplified the Y ticket structure however, and  page 19 of MIN 524  provides a simple conversion table from Y tickets to the new standard –  Small Vessel (or SV) tickets.

Some course providers are now offering yachting cadetships – one example is this one provided by  the UKSA in Cowes on the Isle of Wight .

How are Engineering Departments Structured on Yachts?

Engineering departments vary widely according to the type, size and usage of the yacht in question, but most large yachts will have some or all of the following roles on board:

Chief Engineer (or Sole Engineer on smaller yachts with only one engineer) The Chief Engineer is in overall command of all Engineering operations on board and is the senior advisor to the Captain on all matters related to the condition and serviceability of the yachts engines, propulsion, ancillaries and hotel systems. Although Captains always retain supreme responsibility for the safety of the vessel, all the best captains will work very closely with the Chief Engineer and take heed of any advice and requests they make – after all, they are highly trained, experienced and knowledgeable subject matter experts. Chief Engineers are responsible for ensuring that the Yacht is in all respects compliant with the relevant laws and regulations governing the serviceability of the yachts systems and equipment. They are pivotal in ensuring the yacht passes any relevant flag state, port state or P&I club surveys and inspections.

1 st  Engineer Some of the very largest yachts afloat employ a 1 st  Engineer similar to those employed on Cruise Ships. If a 1 st  Engineer is employed, they will take operational (day-to-day) command of the engineering team, supervising engineering tasks and allocating work as appropriate. This allows the Chief Engineer to concentrate on the large amount of paperwork and business management necessary on board a very large yacht.

2 nd  Engineer The more common understudy to the Chief Engineer, the 2 nd  Engineer often has responsibility for Engine Room maintenance and will take on many of the more challenging maintenance and repair tasks as required. The 2 nd  Engineer acts as a supervisor for more junior crew, and in some cases will be able to deputise for the Chief Engineer if required.

3 rd  Engineer The 3 rd  Engineer will have specific duties, which may include maintenance of the ship’s lifeboats, tenders, jet skis, toys and deck equipment like winches, davits and hatchways. Very often 3 rd s are responsible for interior maintenance. Again, areas of responsibility vary from yacht to yacht.  3 rd  Engineers are often focused on gaining the requisite experience and ‘seatime’ to progress to 2 nd  Engineer.

4 th  Engineer The most junior engineering officer on board, the 4 th  is very often new to Marine Engineering and is learning the trade.  4 th  Engineers are often engaged in structured learning programs, or at least splitting their time between phases at sea learning on the job with phases ashore attending courses. Again, this can vary widely across the industry.

Motorman A junior, but important role found almost exclusively on large yachts in excess of around 100m, the motorman (not gender-specific!) is responsible for the operation and basic maintenance of the yachts main engines and engine room systems. They may assist in starting and stopping large engines and generators, operating switch panels under the supervision of an officer or senior engineer and reporting anything unusual. Engine room cleanliness and order will be an important part of the role.

Wiper / Oiler On the largest yachts, especially those operating medium speed diesels or older conventional ship propulsion technology, a wiper and oiler may be employed in addition to the above with a focused role keeping engines and machinery spaces clean, and keeping greased bearings fed or keeping open rockers oiled etc.  An ability to access confined spaces is often useful, and a keen eye for cleanliness in bilges and bunded tanks etc is often a must.

How To Find a Job as a Superyacht Engineer

Once you have the relevant qualifications, then comes the time to start looking for your first position. Of course, word of mouth and personal connections made through training are a fantastic way to gain knowledge on current positions available however, also consider the following:

Dockwalking – travel to one of the main superyacht hubs like Palma, Antibes or La Ciotet and walk the docks asking yachts if they need engineering crew. Make sure you take a proper CV, written references and go well presented. Be polite and be prepared for a good deal of face-to-face rejection, however don’t take it personally.

Use a reputable crew agent such as wilsonhalligan who is MLC 2006 compliant, vastly experienced and a well respected crew recruitment agency in the industry who does the dock walking for you!

The highly-anticipated Sunseeker Ocean 156 makes her global debut at Southampton International Boat Show

  • The highly-anticipated Sunseeker Ocean 156 makes her global debut at Southampton International Boat Show

19 September 2024

Sunseeker is excited to announce the world debut of its all-new Ocean 156 at the 2024 Southampton International Boat Show. This brand-new model concretely testifies to Sunseeker’s dedication to innovative yacht design, offering unrivalled space, flexibility, luxury, with a unique approach to layout. The Ocean 156 is set to captivate audiences and redefine expectations for yachts of its size.

Making its first public appearance at the Southampton International Boat Show, the Ocean 156 represents the pinnacle of yacht design and craftsmanship across the company's current model range which includes seven lines from 38’-161’: Performance, Predator, Sport Yacht, Manhattan, Yacht, Ocean and Superyacht. With an emphasis on creating a feeling of greater space than yachts in its class, along with highly flexible layout options, the Ocean 156 is poised to make waves in boating destinations worldwide.

The Ocean 156 marks a departure from traditional yacht design, focusing on maximising interior space through a unique approach to layout and emphasis on penthouse proportions. Sunseeker's new naming convention of its Ocean range reflects the yacht’s gross tonnage rather than its length, highlighting the significant increase in usable space.

Andrea Frabetti, chief executive officer at Sunseeker International, commented: “The global debut of the Ocean 156 is a proud moment for Sunseeker. It showcases our ability to push the boundaries of yacht design, delivering an extraordinary amount of space and flexibility in a model of this size. We’re delighted to unveil it to the world at Southampton."

The upper deck encompasses the central pilothouse with a single helm, port side access to the forward terrace and wide sliding doors to the aft fly deck

Infinity main deck with uninterrupted views from bow to stern

Multiple customisable design layouts to deliver maximum flexibility

Owner’s Stateroom option to main deck provides accommodation for up to 10 people

Forward and aft upper decks allow for multiple furniture configurations

Beach Club option with X-TEND™ convertible seating

With a completely enclosed upper deck and single helm station, the Ocean 156 offers an expansive 1,770 square feet of internal floor space across three levels which is matched by substantial exterior entertaining spaces, the innovative design strikes the perfect balance for anyone wishing to spend extended periods afloat.

PERFORMANCE

Equipped with twin MAN V8 1300 or V12 1650 engines, the Ocean 156 can comfortably cruise at speeds of up to 25 knots. Stabilisation options include fins or gyro systems, ensuring a smooth ride in a variety of conditions.

Externally, and fore and aft of the pilothouse, are two upper deck areas; forward with fixed casual seating or spa tub option and aft, with space for free-standing or fixed furniture and built-in wet bar and BBQ. The spacious foredeck features a flush floor with anchoring hardware hidden below decks. Opposing seating can be converted to a sunbed on the starboard side whilst a wet bar with sink and fridge falls easily to hand with parasols offering shade where necessary. The signature Beach Club to the stern is available with Sunseeker’s award-winning X-TEND™ convertible seating, facing forward at cockpit level or rearwards at deck level, complete with another built-in BBQ to starboard. The hi-lo hydraulic platform has a capacity of 550kgs, enough for a Willams 435 SportJet whilst a hydraulic sea stair can also be specified, to make fun in the water even more enjoyable for the entire family.

Clients’ needs take centre stage on board the Ocean 156 and are ‘the reason for being’ for the several design layouts offered as standard, which enable owners to create their own style and practical needs. This is made more achievable thanks to minimal intrusions such as fixed furniture, as well as single-level flooring across all decks.

Step into the main deck saloon and you are met with a 360˚panoramic vista owing to the full height glazing and an open-plan layout that will astound you. With a luxury penthouse apartment feel and uninterrupted views from bow to stern, the area can be customised with multiple arrangements including an open galley and dining aft with bar area forward. A large L-shaped saloon sofa and TV can sit aft or forward depending on the arrangement chosen. Sliding doors are situated port and starboard to connect the outside with the stunning interior and an impressive glazed, floating staircase sits centrally but is subtle so as not to draw the eye away from the impressive setting.

The Ocean 156 accommodates an Owner’s Stateroom option on the main deck that offers both impressive views and direct foredeck access via a wide sliding door option. Configured with the king size bed athwartship and en suite to starboard, the ample wardrobe and dressing area can be found to port, creating a truly breath-taking space with an uninterrupted vista as you enter this light-filled haven. On the lower deck, the alternative full beam Owner’s Stateroom features ample storage, a vanity desk and connecting en suite with twin basins. Forward, the lower accommodation also comprises a forward VIP and two guest cabins with an option for the port cabin to be configured as a twin with sliding berths, accommodating in complete luxury up to ten persons in total. The lower deck once again has a completely level floor between all cabins, something that is rare on a yacht of its size and will benefit those on board in the subtlest of ways.

A completely new range of fabrics and finishes will be offered exclusively on the Ocean 156 including curated light and dark contrasting schemes, subject to client preference. Interior designs have once again been conceptualised in collaboration with Design Unlimited, bringing a modern, cohesive palette to all spaces.

Crew accommodation for three is specified forward of the engine room with appliance block and worktop space built-in for self-sufficiency.
