Dinner Cruise on a Yacht

We started out at Pier 81 in Midtown on a Sunday evening. It was a mixed crowd, but it mostly consisted of couples and smaller groups of girls. The yacht has three levels where you can relax. In good weather, the outdoor portion of the yacht is equipped with a bar and can be a lot of fun. If you want some music, the DJ plays on the lower level. Our evening was relatively quiet and there was no real party mood, which did not bother us. However, we have been told that on Saturday or Friday evenings, it can be more festive.

The Dinner Cruise starts at 6 PM. During this time, champagne is served and you have the opportunity to order more drinks at the bar. Our server was very courteous as he explained a lot about the four-course menu. From 7 PM the ship sets towards the direction of Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. During the duration of the trip, you can be both inside and outside.

The boat arrives in front of Miss Liberty and stays for about 15 minutes. There is enough time to take pictures and enjoy the view.

Our Dinner on the Yacht

The four-course menu was impeccable and really delicious. First, you get a menu from which you can choose your dishes. There was something for everyone. The vegetarians will find something here as well. All in all, it’s a great overall package. With the ticket booking, you have the option to book an “all-inclusive” package. This includes a guaranteed window seat, as well as an open bar which means you’ll be able to drink as much as you like.

Who Should Book this Dinner Cruise

This tour is particularly suitable for couples, friends and a special occasion. Make sure you are dressed to impress. It’s perfect for guests who want to spend three special hours on the Hudson River. However, we would definitely not recommend this tour with children.

Travelers Guide to New York City

Airports & entry, planning your nyc trip.

  • Traveling in the Time of COVID

Restaurants & Eating Out

Nightlife & entertainment, getting around, accommodations, attractions, what not to do in nyc, get the most out of your trip to nyc.

Whether you only have a day to visit in New York City or you are in town for a whole week, it is important that you know how to get around, where to go and also what not to do in the City. Use this handy travel guide to get the most out of your NYC experience.

If you are flying into New York City, it can get a little confusing as there are 3 airports that service the city. Both John F. Kennedy airport (JFK) and LaGuardia (LGA) are located in Queens.

This puts you right in the heart of NYC when you arrive. However, JFK primarily receives and sends international flights, unless you are flying through Continental Airlines. If you are flying in from another location within the US, you will most likely fly into LGA.

The Newark International Airport (EWR) is a more modern airport and with less crowds, it can be an easier and less stressful way to reach New York City. Newark isn’t very far from NYC. The benefits of flying into EWR may outweigh being a little farther away when you arrive.

A vacation in New York City requires some forethought and planning. First, you need to know how and when you will get there. However, additional planning for the time you are there can make the trip a lot less stressful.

Many restaurants in the city are very small, and very busy. You don’t want to be stuck waiting in line for several hours just to eat dinner. Make your dinner reservations as far in advance as you can.

You may also want to purchase a CityPass or an Explorer Pass. Instead of paying admission to each of the attractions you plan to visit, you can purchase one of these tourist passes that allow you entry into a set amount of attractions out of the 35 that accept the passes.

It not only saves money that can be spent on other parts of your trip, but it makes getting into these attractions a lot easier.

Traveling in the time of Covid

Like many other destinations worldwide, tours and visitor attractions in NYC have adopted special procedures.

Wearing a mask in mandatory in many locations. You will be expected to supply your own mask and wear it when you enter public buildings.

Keep your distance from other visitors who are not in your family group or bubble. You will be expected to keep your distance inside minibuses and other vehicles and when seated in restaurants.

At the time of writing, NYC welcomes visitors but requires pre-travel testing for Covid-19. You can obtain the most up-to-date information directly from the NYC COVID-19 Citywide Information Portal .

New York City has some of the finest dining you can experience in the US. However, dining in these restaurants can be pretty pricy. Plan on enjoying a couple of meals at a luxury restaurant, such as Gabriel Kreuther where you can enjoy French cuisine, or even the Empire Steakhouse. Here, you can enjoy a great steak as well as great drinks.

Cheaper restaurants or even casual dining will help you save some cash. Enjoy authentic NYC pizza at Famous Amadeus Pizzeria, for example. However, if you are on the move and need to grab something quick, there are always street vendors. You may even be surprised at how good the food is. To get the best taste of NYC, we would recommend taking a guided NYC food tour .

The New York City nightlife keeps both locals and tourists busy well into the night. If beer is your thing, you want to check out the Blind Tiger. Specializing in craft beers with 30 taps available, you’re sure to find a beer you love.

The Angel’s Share may not have a glamorous outdoor appearance, but inside, you will find classy and flashy drinks. As a Japanese cocktail bar in East Village, it has a unique feel. Want to visit someplace famous? The 7B has a grunge feel, also located in East Village, and has been featured in several movies, including the Godfather.

However, if you haven’t planned your NYC nightlife before arriving, you won’t have a problem finding a fun, unique place to enjoy a few drinks or even dancing. Famous for fun, the New York City nightlife has a lot to offer.

The subways in New York City may even be an attraction. There’s nothing quite like speeding through underground tunnels on a train. However, the subways are a very easy, quick, and cheap way to travel throughout the city. The local busses also make getting around easy.

You will have to pre-pay for your rides on both the subway system and the bus routes through the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, or MTA. You can get single-ride passes or even an unlimited ride pass that lasts for the length of your trip.

You will definitely want to keep your subway and bus route map handy so you can figure out your travel ahead of time. Subways have stops every 8 to 10 blocks, approximately but if you take an express ride, the stops are farther apart. If you plan on visiting Staten Island, you will need to take the free ferry to the island.

If you are looking to stay in the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple, you want to find a hotel in midtown. The right hotel will give you beautiful views of Time Square and more. However, these hotels are usually a bit more expensive just because of the location.

If you are looking for a luxury stay, the Mandarin Oriental or the famous Park Hyatt are close to attractions. If you want to save some cash and stay in a more affordable hotel, the Skyline Hotel New York or the Travel Inn, located in midtown, work just as well.

If you are traveling to New York City with your family, or even a group, you may want to look into a vacation rental. Several companies can help you find a residence within the city that is being rented out by the owners. They won’t be there, as you are renting the space. You typically have a lot more room, and conveniences such as a kitchen, when you find a vacation rental. It helps that it can save you money as well.

If you are going to enjoy a New York dinner cruise, you most likely want to visit in Summer or Fall. The average temps in NYC during the winter hover just above freezing and aren’t ideal for visiting most attractions in the City. The best time to visit would be from June to September.

You should look up the projected forecast just before you leave so you know what weather is expected. Be sure to pack clothes accordingly, but you may want to throw in a couple of outfits meant for different weather, just to be safe.

The Big Apple is never short on attractions to keep tourists busy from sun up to sun down. The Empire State Building is one of the most popular attractions as you are able to see the New York skyline from the observation deck. The Statue of Liberty is not to be missed. If you find yourself in Central Park, there are plenty of food vendors and even free activities to enjoy. If you want to take in a show, be sure to hit Broadway, and if music is your thing, there’s always the Radio City Music Hall.

Past tourists to New York City have learned from early mistakes and many locals can tell you how to plan for a trip. Most advise that you shouldn’t get out of the car or off the plane without a plan for your trip. Winging it in the big city means you may miss out on seasonal events or even attractions you want to visit but they are closed or busy.

Stopping by attractions when they are the busiest will also have you wasting a lot of time standing in line. Visiting during off-peak hours will allow you to enjoy those attractions with less crowds, also saving time for other tourist attractions.

You shouldn’t plan to visit only those museums that are the most popular. Others, such as the Frick or the Neue Gallery, can be just as exciting and also feature smaller crowds.

When walking on the sidewalks, be sure to walk with traffic and set aside if you need to slow down or stop. You shouldn’t walk more than 2 people wide and keep to the side of the sidewalk that is moving in the direction you are headed. When stepping off a curb to hail a cab, place yourself past any parked cars and wave and those cabs who have their cab light on, signaling it is available.

A lot of tourists stick close to the hotel and avoid many areas that are busy or large. However, you shouldn’t be afraid of getting lost. The streets are mostly laid out in a grid and it is usually very easy to tell which direction you are going or need to go.

Knowing that New York City is one of the biggest tourist areas around the country, locals are usually very willing to tell you where the closest subway entrance is, if you are headed in the right direction, or even how to get back to your hotel if you’ve lost your way. There’s nothing like a visit to the Big Apple, and while you are in town, be sure to take in the best New York dinner cruise.

  • Aoife F 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Lovely cruise but improvements needed Food and drinks are very tasty and the atmosphere is chill and comfortable. We went on the 1 hour trip and they didn't specify the difference in sights on the different trips. We were looking forward to see Statue of liberty. That could be more clear. Also extra tacos were overpriced but tasty . New York is expensive in general . Staff were attentive and nice . Read more Written 25 December 2022
  • PhilippeBaucher 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Many things At first, the music was horrible. The volume was too high (we couldn’t talk between us) and you didn’t have any place where the music didn’t harass you. And also the songs were of bad taste. Just latino songs. If you do this cruise, eat before because the buffet was tiny and when the boat leave the dock at 10pm, they tidy the food. So dinner cruise isn’t the good title but appetizer and cruise is more correct. The temperature was cold. To avoid. Read more Written 1 January 2020
  • flaviom177 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Fireworks save the day I got tickets for the “gala dinner” the 4th of July on the Princess boat from World Yacht, New York Cruise Lines. Thank God for the spectacular fireworks show that NYC puts up. Aside from those wonderful 26 minutes the entire experience was a disaster. From arrival, where they make you stand in line for 40 minutes to get tickets, when you already received a bar coded email, to the outrageously bad dinner (by the time we got served - after arriving exactly on time - they had obviously ran out of salad and most everything else...sadly they still had plenty of gas in the grill which enabled the rendering of a shoe sole “filet “) to the extremely cheap wine offering. All for an outrageously high price! Our server tried very hard to make things work but clearly only a super hero would have been able to make things better. So, don’t miss the opportunity to experience the 4th of July NYC show but DO NOT do it on board this “cruise”!!! Read more Written 17 July 2019
  • jbsh7777 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Great once you get past the check-in HOURS. First, the check-in debacle. They asked us to arrive at 5pm, but didn't allow check-in until 5:45pm and then after you waited in that line, you could board. This means that you will be all dressed up and sitting in the hot sun for 1.5+ hours!!! Why on earth would they not allow us onto the air conditioned boat earlier! I ended up with heat sickness and felt like throwing up rather than eating once we did board - just an awful start. Next - the food - dinner was an okay buffet - not bad, but not great. Finally - the fireworks were amazing and made me forget most of the earlier pain :) Read more Written 8 July 2019
  • Arr Jay R 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Just No Don’t get sucked in by the low tour price ($10 when we visited). There is too much to do in New York to waste time with this. The boat leaves the pier on the west side of New York, travels to the upper west side, and then back to the pier. During this time, you get an opportunity to purchase overpriced drinks, eat average lobster fare, view the industrial Jersey shore, and see the backs of buildings that line Central Park. Maybe I was so disappointed because I expected something else. Others on the boat seemed to have a great time. I thought I was getting one of the tours that goes around Lower Manhattan so you can see the skyline. Service was great, though. Read more Written 18 June 2019
  • Lars O 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Cancelation without explanation or apologies I booked this tour as a birthday present for my parents during their NYC trip. Unfortunately, when they arrived at the pier, they were told that their trip has been canceled. There was no explanation given. After some research, I found out that the company has changed their business model, now they do not offer regular tours anymore but only on special days. It is fair for any company to do what they want, but when you have already sold tickets, you have to do your job, do the tours that have already been booked and start your new business model afterwards. I think the company is just completely unprofessional, they didn't even see the need to inform us beforehand. Although a refund has been made, I m still very angry and would not recommend anyone to book with this company - the birthday present for my parents I gave together with my brother has been ruined by them. • 902cindyt 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles New Year's Eve Cruise Here are the good points: It was raining like hell on NYE in NYC this year, so this boat was the place to be as far as I'm concerned. It was a little difficult getting to the dock area bc it was so crowded. We paid $500 a person and had the 4 course dinner. The service was great. Erika did an great job. We had a table by a window, and we had a fabulous time. Fun dancing downstairs, open bar, nice fire works. Magical evening. All that said....if you are serving filet mignon and lobster tail, then it should be cooked to perfection...especially if I'm paying $500 a person (there were 6 of us). All steaks had to be medium and were not really, and the lobster tail was dry with no drawn butter. That was disappointing but did not ruin my night. I also wish you could have gotten a little closer to the statue of liberty, but whatevs..... I want to go back to what a fantastic job Erika did. We loved having her as our server. • juanirc25 0 contributions 1.0 of 5 bubbles Worst than horrible. We went yesterday in the timeless yatch for the New Year’s Eve, The boat is nice, I will not deny that, but the service was terrible, first we had to wait in the rain for more than 45 minutes, when we entered there was a problem with the table, we were a group of 7 in an 8 table, an 3 more families had our table. But the worst part was the service: - the bar was always too crowded, we always needed to be in line for more than 25 minutes to get one drink. - The Buffet: I don’t have a word to describe this, there was more than 300 people at the boat, 3 floors but only 1 buffet in the bottom flor, we made a line for 1.25 hour to get the food, we ate a 11.25 pm, and the food was terrible, dry chicken, bad cocked veggies, hard as a stone, pasta with no flavor. And the celebration cake was a joke, I’ve never ate a cake as bad as that one. New Year’s Eve must be a special night, and when you pay $200 per person you except something good, this was below decent I fell scammed. I will not recommend this boat and this company in any circumstance. Read more Written 1 January 2019
  • FlickHarv2015 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles A lovely idea with terrible service We attended on the evening of thanksgiving for a river cruise and 4 course thanksgiving meal. It was unfortunately very cold, below zero and we had to queue outside for 20 minutes to have our vouchers checked and be shown to our table, not a great start. I then had to keep my coat on the entire time as it was cold inside aswell. We asked if the hearin could be turned up a little as there were others in coats aswell. It was, but 10 minutes before the cruise finished. We had to ask for our champagne after being sat at the table for 30 minutes without a server appearing. Our meals were brought out at different times and were like warm. The couple next to us were actually forgotten about with the main meal and had to ask only for it to be brought out cold. However one thing was brought out very quickly, the drinks bill at the end of the night. The cruise itself was lovely, and seeing New York lit up from the river was amazing. But the experience was definitely not worth the $300. I appreciate thanksgiving is busy but when you have paid that amount of money, good service is expected. Read more Written 23 November 2018
  • elvoisey 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Spectacular experience! We visited as a family to celebrate a special wedding anniversary; greeted by a glass of champagne on arrival and two entree dishes before the 3 courses. We’d advised in advance we had a fussy vegetarian in our group and the company more than catered for her. • _adele5516 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles absolutely fantasic!! We booked this cruise through viator and were a little concerned at first. We arrived at the yacht and were really impressed. We showed our viator voucher and were escorted on to the yacht without any issues. On arriving we were greeted with champagne. It was a lovely evening and took the opportunity to take photos on the deck. We were escorted to our table and the night started from there. From start to finish we were really impressed. Food was outstanding and the waiter was keeping a watchful eye over us ensuring that our drinks were continously topped up. This experience was the cherry on the top of the cake to round a fabulous 5 day trip to New York. We felt the cruise was a little pricey at first i.e. 278 dollars but we didnt come away disheartened and felt the whole experience was an experience to remember. Dont hesitate lifes too short book it and you wont be dissappointed. Great opportunity also to take night time pictures of the fabulous Manhattan skyline as well as the Statue of Liberty. A friend of ours suggested another cruise that was double the price and I am so pleased we didnt decide to do that. We definitely came away feeling that this experience was excellent value for money. • Royalscott 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great view of the city There is a serving of Champagne and Canapés between 6pm and 7pm before the ship sails, so don’t be late. The Champagne glass was filled regularly. The food is very good and there are choices to suit everyone. There is still a problem with the window tables with the person on the inside sitting with their back to the window. There is a disk jockey on the lower deck which was not very busy but the music is piped through to all the decks. The music will appeal more to the younger passenger but he did play Frank Sinatra when at the Statue of Liberty. The viewing decks are good with great views of the Statue of Liberty and the city lights. We were given a glass of wine each as we had been on the cruise a number of times before which was a nice touch. The below deck lounge is very nice and worth a visit after docking. We still hanker back to the old days of the live band and the dance floor on the dinner deck. A good way to spend an evening. Read more Written 3 September 2018

Read more Written July 17, 2019
Finally - the fireworks were amazing and made me forget most of the earlier pain :) Read more Written July 8, 2019
Read more Written June 18, 2019
Read more Written January 1, 2019
Read more Written November 23, 2018
The views of Manhattan at night and the Statue of Liberty were incredible, well worth the price for a beautiful evening Read more Written September 9, 2018
Read more Written September 3, 2018
  • Randa K 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Best way to see the Lady! My husband and I booked this dinner cruise for our extended date night in New York. Clayton was our excellent waiter. He was very personable and engaging. The food was very enjoyable. There were offerings for vegetarians as well as meat lovers. Champagne and horderves were an unexpected treat. The weather was wonderful at the later part of June. A very enjoyable evening. Read more Written June 21, 2018
