Woman pleads not guilty in drug case

EAU CLAIRE — A woman charged with drug trafficking after the stories she and a man gave police varied pleaded not guilty on Wednesday.

Kara Vandeyacht, 19, Eau Claire, face charges of possession with intent to deliver THC, possession with intent to deliver psilocin or psilocybin and possession of drug paraphernalia, the first two with a modifier for being party to a crime.

She and Jeremiah Sanderson were both charged in the incident which, according to the criminal complaint, began when police spotted a vehicle at the Hobbs Ice Center late at night last fall. The officer who made contact said Vandeyacht said it was her car, but Sanderson was driving. The officer asked about smelling marijuana, and Vandeyacht said she was at a party earlier and smoked some.

The officer asked for, and received, permission to search the car. A backpack in the car claimed by Sanderson had three bags of marijuana, vape cartridges with high THC concentrations and 10 bars with an edible hallucinogen.

When a second officer arrived, they separated Vandeyacht and Sanderson for questioning. Sanderson denied owning the backpack this time, saying it belonged to a friend of an acquaintance.

“He said he had been at the party when the backpack had been ‘pushed on him’ because of his history. Sanderson said he tried to refuse the backpack, but ‘they’ left the bag with him and ran off,” the complaint said.

Vandeyacht told officers that wasn’t accurate and that she brought Sanderson to the party to sell drugs.

Sanderson pleaded guilty to possession with intent to deliver THC and possession with intent to deliver psilocybin in January. He was ordered to serve three years’ probation. A sentence of 180 days in jail was stayed.

Vandeyacht’s next court appearance is scheduled as a status conference in September.

Daniel C. Vandeyacht

October 17, 1951 — january 31, 2020.

Dan Vandeyacht, a Kaukauna resident, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 31, 2020, following a fearless battle with cancer at the age of 68.  Dan was born in Appleton on October 17, 1951, son of the late Mark and Patricia (Peterson) Vandeyacht.  He spent most of his life in the family warehousing businesses, including Warehouse Specialists, Distribution Specialists, and Dependable Storage. He ended his career in the gas station business, DJ Convenience, with his brother Jim.

Dan led his life and businesses with calm, steadfast emotions, undeniable integrity, and an incredible commonsense approach.  He will always be remembered for his generosity, wisdom and creativity.  Dan was also a patient and talented creator. Whether it be turning a fine bowl on a lathe, carving an old man out of a chunk of wood, or making an intricate piece of furniture or some other creative treasure, Dan was in perpetual motion, constantly busy and working. And if he wasn’t in his workshop, he was in the garden, where he spent a great deal of his summers. He didn’t keep his skills to himself and was always happy to share his love for creating. He was patient, even with a beginner. He also loved four-wheeling on the trails behind his house, nature, fishing, hunting, and western movies. Not to be overlooked was his devotion to his family and the special bond he had with his grandkids.

Dan met his wife, Kathy, at an A & W Drive-In.  They were high school sweethearts and married in 1972, having recently celebrated forty-seven years of marriage.  Dan is survived by his wife: Kathy; three children: Jon (Mary) Vandeyacht of Omro, Allan (Audrey) Vandeyacht of Kaukauna, and Christine “China” Vandeyacht of Appleton; five grandchildren: Paige, Meghan, Ian, Nadia, and Kara.  His brothers and sisters are Ken Vandeyacht of Combined Locks, Kathy (Glen) Vander Velden of Sturgeon Bay, Bill (Barb) Vandeyacht of Darboy, Jean (Bob) Kieffer of Royalton, Tom (Mary) Vandeyacht of Menasha, and Patty (Brian) Joosten of Little Chute.  He is further survived by a sister-in-law: Bette Vandeyacht of Suamico, and by Kathy’s siblings: Bill Weber of California, Judy Weber of Colorado, and Mike (Ada) Weber of DePere.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Jim Vandeyacht, and sisters-in-law Barb Vandeyacht, Collette Weber, and Mary Ann Weber Moringello.

The funeral liturgy for Dan will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, located at 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna.  Family and friends are invited to gather at the Fargo Funeral Home, 400 W. Wisconsin Avenue in Kaukauna, on Monday from 4:00 PM until the time of a parish prayer service at 7:00 PM.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday morning at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of the mass at 11:00 AM.

The family would like to thank Dr. Chen, Theda Care Regional Cancer Center, and Theda Care Hospice.

Dan has gone to set up his greenhouse in Heaven. He will be greatly missed.

BOYS SOCCER

WINNEBAGO LUTHERAN 5, WAYLAND ACADEMY 3

FOND DU LAC - The Vikings built a 3-0 halftime lead and held off the Big Red’s second-half rally for a nonconference win.

Seth Schroeder scored three goals and assisted one to lead Winnebago Lutheran. Owen Moin and Matt Nygaard added one goal each for the Vikings.

Wayland’s goals were scored by Emre Kocer, Salva Huertas Abad and Amirabbas Jafari.

Dylan Schroeder recorded seven saves for Winnebago Lutheran.

“Usually you feel pretty safe with a 5-0 lead, but Wayland sure made it interesting. We were down two starters, so it was next-man-up mentality for us,” Winnebago Lutheran coach David Haag said. “Landon Spranger came in to play 80 minutes on defense in his first big opportunity, and he really came through for us. Seth Schroeder showed why he is one of the more skilled attacking players in our league, scoring the hat trick on three different types of goals. We are very happy to go 3-0 in the conference.”

NORTH FOND DU LAC UNITED 3, MAYVILLE 2

MAYVILLE - Keegan Wagner, Brian Gonzalez-Rodriguez and Christian Gonzalez each scored for the United in the win over the Cardinals.

North Fond du Lac United goalie Jaiden Miesner had eight saves.
