The 41.93m/137'7" motor yacht 'Equus' was built by Benetti in Italy at their Viareggio shipyard. Her interior is styled by French designer design house Zuretti and she was delivered to her owner in April 2016. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Stefano Righini.

Guest Accommodation

Equus has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests in 5 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 8 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

Equus is built with a GRP hull and GRP superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (C32 ACERT) 1,450hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 14 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots with a range of up to 4,000 nautical miles from her 58,000 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. Her water tanks store around 8,000 Litres of fresh water. She was built to RINA (Registro Italiano Navale) C ✠ HULL ● MACH classification society rules, and is MCA Compliant.

Our new boat arrives in Puget Sound in August which should give us almost four months to prepare for its first serious race, Winter Vashon, in December 2015.

We will continue learning the boat through the remainder of the South Sound Series in 2016, then Seattle Yacht Clubs spring Island Series and other, yet to be determined longer races. Oregon Offshore and Swiftsure will round out our preparation. Crew will include experience from Vic-Maui, Oregon Offshore and about a million Swiftsures between us. We are starting behind the eight ball compared to the experience the other crews have with their respective boats, but we are excited to get started!

Our goals are to be safe, have fun and compete hard!

The Annie M crew has a wealth of experience to contribute to the Vic-Maui 2022 race. John McCarthy, the captain of Annie M, is a lifelong sailor with experience racing Snipes and J24s, as well as cruising on a Swan 47 and, of course, an Amel 52, the Annie M.  His boat has been beautifully restored and named after his beloved wife of 60 years .

Steve McCarthy brings years of racing and cruising experiences from sailing many seas. He’s also a sailmaker and, since 2004, owner of Hogin Sails located in Alameda, CA. In addition to working with sail lofts from Seattle to Santa Cruz, he has raced on Moore 24s and J24s and cruised on a Swan 47 across Europe. Our sails are in good hands with Steve as a sailor since he was a wee one.

Steve Summers is an instructor at Seattle Sailing Club, an Outward Bound teacher, and a National Outdoor Leadership teacher with experience sailing long voyages requiring an excellent ability to handle a variety of conditions and personalities. He’s also a Wilderness First Responder and a well-respected navigator in the Pacific Northwest. A calm soul called to the wild, Steve seeks adventure, and Vic-Maui is one of the adventures he’s ready to tackle. 

Callum Hally is focused on sailing when the opportunity arises. In the past five years, he’s sailed more than 500 hours on a variety of boats such as a Catalina 22, J35c and an Andrew 53 to name a few. Through his previous job with Seattle Sailing Club supporting the customer’s experience, he became passionate about being on the water.   He’s an excellent crew member with an insatiable thirst for reading, which makes him a fascinating conversationalist, wise beyond his years. 

Bill Busch participated as “old goat’ status for Mackinaw races. He’s had a 1 st  place PHRf overall, 1 st  place in j105 class, 1 st  place j120 class. He’s looking forward to sailing a long ocean passage. He recently completed his International Offshore Safety program at St. Petersburg Florida Yacht Club. Bill is known for his kindness and patience.

Sarah Mackay, a lifelong sailor who learned at a young age the art of not getting seasick and never getting bored. She’s a crew member, communicator and, on occasion, cracker of jokes at which she’s the only one laughing. She has raced on J24s and J30s, crossed the North Sea and cruised throughout Europe on a Swan 47, and explored the Pacific Northwest on an Amel 52 named Annie M.

We are busy preparing the boat (and ourselves) for this epic journey. This year, Annie M will be entered in the Pacific NW Offshore Yacht Race and the Swiftsure Yacht Race leading up to our start date of the Vic-Maui International Yacht Race in early July.

The Equus Bass 770 Is A Six-Figure Muscle Car

It’s also like a supercar, which helps explain the price.

Back in the day, muscle cars were relatively affordable or even cheap, depending on the model. It was a way for the average Joe to get a fun, powerful ride . Many weren’t all that flashy and certainly wouldn’t have been considered luxurious in any serious way. Times certainly have certainly changed, but even with more modern muscle cars being prestige machines , the Equus Bass 770 is quite the anomaly.

First revealed to the public in 2014, the Equus Bass 770 obviously draws inspiration from a handful of classic American muscle cars, most obviously the Ford Mustang , but with several elements from the classic Dodge Charger . In fact, the design inspiration came from the movie Bullitt . However, it debuted with a price point of $230,000 to $250,000. If you want a bespoke model, tack on another $100,000 or so. That’s well beyond what people were paying for Dodge Vipers out the door, so it’s understandable why some people think that’s a little much.

About that steep price, there’s a good reason for it. When it was in production, the Bass 770 was made entirely by hand. Equus co-owner Michael Shariff says it takes between 4,500 to 5,000 man hours to assemble just one car. Under those stamped aluminum body panels with carbon-fiber liners is an all-aluminum frame. In other words, it might look and even perform like a muscle car, but it’s built like a supercar.

For that kind of money, one would expect a top-performing vehicle. Considering Equus dropped an LS9, the same supercharged V8 used in the C6 ZR1 with 640-horsepower on tap, it certainly fit the bill. With the horsepower wars continuing to rage for now, that might not feel like as big of a number as it did seven years ago, but even by today’s standards it’s still impressive. Plus, the Bass 770 can rip from 0-60 in a claimed 3.4 seconds and hit 200 mph, proving it’s a real performer.

Speaking of supercars, the Equus Bass 770 featured an impressive array of tech. Yes, there’s a touchscreen infotainment center and electronic door handles, but the innovations go even further. For example, Brembo carbon ceramic brakes and a magnetic suspension provide greater control when pushing the car toward its limits. Even with all the innovations, the driving experience is kept pure with a six-speed manual gearbox.

If you’ve never seen the Equus Bass 770 in action, the video from Ridiculous Rides accompanying this article helps you sense what a performance machine it is. Sure, you’ll have to hear it all narrated by a British guy, which absolutely doesn’t jive with the American muscle scene, but the car can roast tires well enough.

Out of the Centre

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
